Welcome to Xisto.Please use proper English grammar in your posts...What kind of games are you talking about here? I don't see why you would be downloading games to a USB flash drive if you intend to play it on a "better" computer. A lot of games are usually on CD and some will need the internet to play.

If those two were the only choices of forums to chose from, I rather pay for Invision Board than suffer with phpBB. Whether an interface is confusing or not to a user is more of a matter of opinion. I find Invision much more easier to navigate and the admin control panel is great. phpBB was almost as easy to use but the amount of exploits it has is not making me feel safer if I have to administer it on my site.I have seen phpBB3 in action already and there are definitely improvements over the prior version. For one thing, the loading time seems to be much quicker. As more users deploy these to their sites, we'll see how it will fair in the security area.

The problem with phpBB is that they sort of have a bad reputation for keeping up to date with their security issues....at least from what I read from other phpBB users. SMF is usually really quick on the trigger and the patches are deployed and installed usually with just two clicks or so.

Yeah, you should be fine with a 350W power supply. But you know what they say, the more the merrier <_<I actually got a 200GB hard drive also but using a 500W power supply. I was organizing my hard drives (about 7, yes, count that 7 of them) and they were all connected to my 500W power supply. No hiccups or anything, so I'm sure your's will be fine as well, unless you intend to add a few more hard drives in that machine. If worse comes to worse, the device just won't bootup. It won't crash or anything. You can just unplug a working device (say one of the DVD drives) and plug it into the non-working one. If that powers up, then you know it's a power supply issue (not enough power).

Why don't you just buy a router and share the internet connection between the two computers? The router will be able to handle multiple computers (depending on how many ports you got with the router). Otherwise, with your current setup with just the modem, you will only have room to connect to one computer and make it act as a gateway in order for the second computer to connect. With the router, each computer is independent, where as the gateway aspect will require the first computer to be on in order to go online.

I'm sure there are tools out there that can help you manipulate this image without the need of any drawing device (it does help though for those that are creative with a pen ). If you want to go into image editing but don't want to pay a load of cash for programs like Adobe Photoshop, then I would highly recommend using The Gimp: https://www.gimp.org/ The mouse was never meant to be used as a sketching tool. Even drawing letters can be a pain. If you want to do a lot of sketch work, invest in a electronic sketch pad.

Do you use all the resource guzzling features in Vista? LOL. Try turning on a bunch of those widgets and run the Aero glass interface along with a bunch of programs you commonly use. Monitor the performance and see if you notice any sluggishness. According to Microsoft, 2GB is the recommended memory for Windows Vista Ultimate. I usually go against what they say is the minimum specifications and upgrade a bit higher if I can

Make sure that the FTP address, username and password are all correct. Also make sure nothing is blocking your FTP program.

Yep, that's the problem I think I will be facing with the front fan. It looks kind of cramped in the front area even though there is a slot available to fit it in.I don't have any top ventilation for the case. The closes one on top is the power supply fan sucking the hot air out. Then it's the rear fan taking the air out.I'll give Speedfan a try and see if there are any changes after I put in the new fan.Thanks.

If you are just using the cable modem directly, you don't need to worry about anyone stealing the internet connection. Unless they can physically access your modem, there is a very unlikely chance that anyone can use it. The router can be useful if you intend to use wireless internet connectivity. Is this G4 a laptop or a desktop? If laptop and you want to roam around the house and have internet, you can buy a wireless router.

Nik, be careful where you post next time. You posted this in the Windows Tutorial section. Make sure you post in the Windows help section instead (which I just moved over to here). Did you install anything recently before this freezing problem began? Does it always happen when you go online? Restart your computer now and go online immediately to see if it freezes. Always read the terms of service in any site if you intend to use it for a while. That was the first thing I read here at Xisto and it does indeed mention English sites only. The reason behind this is? My guess is because most of us here are English speaking members. If your site is under "scrutiny" for any suspicious activities, we want to be able to determine that for sure. If it's in another language that we (admins...mods) don't understand, I don't think it will be easy to decide what to do with a site.@sparkx: No LOL....Only English language sites can be hosted at the Xisto servers. Sites in other languages can/will most likely be removed. So basically, posting here at Xisto forums and the content you host at your site, both MUST be in English.

So you know it won't be using much resources even when they are running. All the ones listed on my site there are free to use. I rarely recommend using a paid anti-spyware program since I find that the free ones will be able to eliminate a majority of the spyware related files already. No programs are perfect, so even paid anti-spyware programs will miss a bug here and there

You can add a PCI USB adapter card into it if you really need it. I would just stick with the CD/DVD drive to run the Live Linux CDs if you want to try them out first. Otherwise, install it on that drive. Try the Linux versions/flavors that are mentioned above to see which one you like more.Let us know which ones you tried already and didn't work as expected. I'm sure they still have Linux flavors available for those using more older hardware.

I have built a new computer over a month ago and have been using it already. I just want to know the best place to put the fans and which direction they should be blowing (in or out). Right now, I have a case where I can mount a fan on the front and back (both 120mm ones) and one on the side (80mm fan) pointing right towards another HUGE CPU fan (Dual Core ).I'm not sure how much ventilation I will get from mounting a 120mm fan on the front because I don't see any holes in the front of the case for it to have air in-take. So I didn't mount one there yet The back fan is taking the air out from the insides and the side fan is taking air in. I have a hard drive cooler mounted to the hard drive (two 60mm fans) and also a video card with a fan. Both of these have air blowing towards the bottom area, while my side fan is blowing near the middle/top area. My concern is with the bottom area "overheating". Is this something I should worry about? The back fan is sucking the air from where the side and CPU fans are from. There are no fans near the bottom (except maybe for the front side one).I also see that the power supply fan is sucking the hot air out as well, but not as quickly. Is it sufficient enough just for the power supply to take the hot air out so I can take out the 120mm fan? The noise level is getting pretty high over here, but I don't want to risk overheating any of the parts inside :)Thanks.

At first I thought all of them needed to login to AOL since he had it installed on all three. But nope. Once one of them is connected, it seems like all of them will be able to access the internet via Internet Explorer.I'm narrowing it down to the modem like you are now and will be calling Cablevision on my next visit if I still can't resolve it. I'm not sure, but I think it does require some login. Is there a way I can find out either from the modem or router? The modem has the cable line connected to it and from there to the router.All I know is that the router has 4 ports and all of them are used except for one (only has 3 PCs).

That's correct. His ISP is Cablevision and it connected fine a few days before he called me in to take a look at the problem. They have a cable wire coming down from the roof to his office room. That's connected to a cable modem which is in turn connected to a router. All the computers are connected to this router using a CAT5 network cable.The problem is that it will NOT even connect without logging into AOL first. If we try to go online directly using Internet Explorer, it will give us a connection error or page not found message. I tried Google, Yahoo and other common sites that should come up easily. So what he has to do is open up AOL and sign in from there first. Then the internet access kicks in.The other two computers are having the same issues though. I thought it was AOL causing some conflict so I reinstalled Windows XP on two of his three computers (they needed to be reinstalled anyway ). Now he has a clean install of Windows without any AOL garbage ... but no internet access.This is why I'm stuck on this issue. It looks like once he's signed onto AOL, he can log off from it and still have the internet working after that. I have no idea why, but all the other computers (the other two with new Windows installation) will work perfectly fine after this.I don't see any reason why these two ISP's would be connected to each other as they are totally different companies as far as I know. I even took a look at the computers and they don't have a phone line plugged in. Even if he does use AOL dial up, I assume that the cable connection will take over if no other connection is found.

OK, I got some update on this issue. There seems to be another connection involved in one time or another. They still have to use AOL to connect at first before getting internet access. I connected and saw that there is a new connection under the Direct category (instead of under LAN where it normally is). Both say connected. The LAN is at 100Mbps and the Direct connection is at 10Mbps. I think that direct connection is related to AOL. It says something about a Mini WAN port or similar.What's even stranger now is that even if he closed AOL (presumably signs off?), we can access the internet using Internet Explorer. I checked the connections window again and this time that direct connection is gone. ALL the computers in the network immediately has internet access also (even with AOL closed/signed off now). I did an ipconfig before and after the AOL fiasco. Only thing I see different is an extra PPP adapter setting with an IP address, gateway and DNS server filled out. When we closed AOL (still has internet at this stage even with AOL gone in the picture), I did another ipconfig. Doesn't show PPP adapter anymore but still online.This is really puzzling the heck out of me. I had to work on two other computers in this guy's office and they both needed Windows to be reinstalled. I thought this would be a good test to really see if AOL was required. So after reinstalling Windows XP on both of them and all the necessary drivers, I tried going online. Nothing I connect to AOL on that other (third) computer, boom....everything is running. Even closing AOL at this stage doesn't interfere with the connection.I really don't see how AOL could be affecting the cable connection at this stage.Any other ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

There should be an option in Opera to disable that remember password feature. A lot of these browsers put that feature in (including Firefox) so users don't have to remember a thousand passwords for all the sites they visit B)I also find that each has their own advantage. Been switching back and forth between these two browsers (Firefox and Opera) over the past few years. I'm a "dual browser" user LOL
