If its all exploits based on access tables that are improperly used, and you need local access, I can't see this causing a large problem. Is it good? obviously far from it, but as long as they keep the external threats from easily wandering into my system thats my primary concern. Hopefully this study will get them to take notice and start fixing up their leftover security bugs tho.Must say, seeing Adobe/Macromedia on the list is a bit surprising though, M$ is known for this kind of stuff and I've never seen AOL as the most reliable in anything heh, but Adobe is usually on top of things. Just goes to show, trust is a dangerous thing.

Gotta lov the Fib's We did this problem in my combinatorial theory class this year (just in some more detail). Those FIb numbers show up in alot of places you wouldn't expect them to :|

Should be pretty interesting to see how this works out. I can't see me using it much, since none of my friends switched to using gtalk as it is, but I assume I'll make some use of it. Cool concept nonetheless and always good when a company innovates -
I don't know what ones are good, since I'm obv using Xisto primarily right now. I do know, however, that I've tried and couldn't stand http://www.freewebspace.net/, geocities, and angelfire. Either they were unreliable, the ads were out of control, poor servers, or whatnot. They may have changed, but I'd be wary of them. but then again, getting something great for absolutely free is rare

So I got around to replaceing my dead mp3 player. Ended up getting an iRiver as well actually, the 1gig T30. Got it for a pretty good deal and it's serving me well. Good sound quality, nice menus... takes a bit to get used to setting up the sync options, but otherwise no complaints. I really wanted to get an iPod video but I couldn't bring myself to spending anywhere near that kind of cash when I could get one that holds 200ish songs and still leaves a few hundred dollars in my pocket haha. But yes, anyone looking for a reliable cheaper mp3 player, I would reccomend the iRivers (apparently the T10-T30 are all really good quality)

How To Install Applications In Fedora noob question
Jeigh1405241495 replied to marretas's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Well... using kazaa to download copyright protected data is prohibited I'm sure no one will get sued over downloading a linux iso off one or other freely distributed software :)But yes, as mentioned make sure to download the rpm version of software. Usually for linux downloads they have you select one based on your distro (In this case, Fedora) and it'll give you an RPM. If I remember correctly a simple double click will prompt you for the root password and then it would install the software. As mentioned this can also be accomplished by using the command line from a terminal window. If you are new to linux, I would suggest googling for introduction to linux and/or Fedora websites. You don't need anything major, just get the basics of the command line and terminology down. It helps alot in the long run. Hope you get everything set up as needed and congratulations on making a venture into the world of linux. -
Java - versatile and 'safe'. Good for making net appliucations and the like. It's a good beginners programming language as alot of the more complex problems are handled for you (not always in the best way, but they are kept behind the scnes so you don't need to worry about them). ZThis lets you have more time for learning the basics that flow through with all languages.SQL - Database handling. I don't personally know much SQL related stuff, so someone else can assumedly give a better idea about it.C++ - good for programming games, operating system, etc. It's c but better. You need to worry about some things that java does for you, but at the same time c++ stream lines certain aspects of java Notice from vujsa: Posts merged here. Crap my net crashed and what I had typed got posted in its own bit :| Ah well I'll finish herec++ - Certain things like i/o and file i/o are set up easier then in java, at least in my opinion. But overall c++ is more complex usually. More powerful to for the most part.Cobol - As far as I know, if you are interested in learning 'future ready' languages, don't bother with this one. It's pretty much only used to maintain previously developed systems.VB - eeeevil... ok this one depends who you ask, but I hate it.Designing gui's and basic apps is simple (drag and drop weeee) and interfacing with sql is a snap... its just... too... something. Although officially it's used alot now so it wouldn't be a bad time investment if you are hoping to get work with it.Its's early and I'm still half asleep, so if anything is wrong just yell at me and point out my errors. Personally I'd suggest focusing on java and c++, starting with java if you plan to learn both and c++ if you only plan to learn one. But that's just my opinion, I'm sure others have their own personal fav.

Google Os Goobuntu Google OS Goobuntu
Jeigh1405241495 replied to ramesh_mc's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I can't see it putting ubuntu out of business, since their only revenue comes from their support service (I assume) which is to enterprise level clients who would know the difference if google actually just bundled in their stuff. Now if google actually revamps it alot and fixes the handful of things keeping it from being a perfect desktop OS, all the better. -
Tactical Ops - An Old UT Modification
Jeigh1405241495 replied to HellFire121's topic in Computer Gaming
Once they release a final version for the UT2K4 mod I can see me checking it out, haven't played UT for a fairly long while but it'd be worth breaking it out for a healthy set of mods to try out. Could be pretty sweet playing tac ops on that engine -
Need Help With MySQL Compilation And Install

I had some trouble setting up mysql back when I did it too, if I remember correctly the errors started in the same general stage of progress too. Can you post the actual error message you are receiving? -
Google Os Goobuntu Google OS Goobuntu
Jeigh1405241495 replied to ramesh_mc's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Yea, that's my only hope for this 'goobuntu' is that google will force linux into the public eye much more then it is currently. Everything google does seems to get alot of publicity so if they release a direct competetor to microsoft's flagship, it'll get alot of press too. It probably won't be anything revolutionary but it will hopefully make some people stop and wonder what this "linux" word they keep hearing is all about. -
I guess I agree with the mass majority, photoshop is the one for me. I have both on my system usually, and I still actually use both, but photoshop has it hands down. If I just want to do something super quick I oft use PSP since it loads in a snap on my machine, but otheriwse I use photoshop.

Tactical Ops - An Old UT Modification
Jeigh1405241495 replied to HellFire121's topic in Computer Gaming
I've played the original Tac Ops mod and it was pretty good for a UT variant of the counter-strike model, but I doubt it could ever compete unless the new one is WAY better then the old one. I just found the old one kinda clunky and basic. It was solidly made and had some fun value, just lacked anything to keep you comming back. At least that was how I found it when I played it -
I guess I need to put a rush on my mp3 purchase choice. My Creative Nomad Muvo from like 3 years ago has finally kicked the bucket. I might be able to trick it into working again, but it seems pretty messed up... still useable as a memory stick though but there seems to be a conflict between the memory portion and the actual player portion. Bleck. Now I just need to convince myself to drop the cash on an ipod or zen or iriver or some such :S

Looks like a pretty good list abhiram. Personally I use Gnome on my main box normally with flux on my older server setup. Both gnome and KDE have their plusses and minuses but personally I've been preferring gnome as of late. KDE just feels too flashy to me or something. You can get amazingly cool looking desktops on gnome without it being over the top or anything. I know you can limit the ffects and everything in kde, but I just find gnome a little smoother going. Regardless, both are awesome and worth checking out for anyone new. Really all the window managers are too, no sense in not trying them once.

Consumer Takes Apple To Court Ipod
Jeigh1405241495 replied to marretas's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I agree that making a setting on a device that can't be non-dangerous unless used under 20-30 seconds is pretty stupid, on the other hand people sue oveer everything nowdays in America so it's kind of getting out of hand. I still remember when a burglar hurt himself while breaking into someones house, so he sued them because he got injured on their property....(hm, wtf?)But yea I don't think this guy has a case, I mean, if its loud enough to hurt, turn it down. PLus I'm willing to bet that in fine print somewhere in the iPod packaging or manual or whatnot there are various warnings covering their asses against this stuff. -
Livecd And Liveusb Slax Linux and MySlax Creator

Do bootable filesets just have a flagged file that the bios looks for in the boot sequence? I was just thinking about if BartPE would work off a usb drive easily or does anything needs to be configured depending on the media..? -
If you think about it, with little training they could be invaluable to some regions. I mean, the sheer amount of education available through them would be much more cost effective then buying books. For example, instead of buying numerous old textbooks, obtain (pay or freely) some information and store it on a single computer with an HD and the others can simply access the information whenever they were at school or whatever. While they would still require an initial investment, over time it would be cheaper then buying books, penicls, text books, etc. and offer much more then those resources would. 1 computer and a student is set until it stops working. That having been said I'm still skeptical. The theory behind it is very sound. Computers for everyone...and I think that it is a worthy goal and could have some good impacts but whether or not it is a success remains to be seen,
