  1. YES!!! I knew there was something about the colors that I just ouldn't put my finger one! So yes, I agree, less greyish heh
  2. Hmm, I think I have one on my system at home. If no one has replied by then with a good solution I'll let you know later if that is, indeed, what I have. I haven't used it in ages so it might be something else I am thinking of.
  3. OMG YOU STOPPED THE THE MOST CLIFFHANGER MOMENT EVER! AAAH!~Hehe, I'll assume freeBSD worked But yea I know I wanted to try debian out once but I couldn't bring myself to care enough to download/burn all the install media when there were comaprable distro's out there on 1 cd and just download the rest as you need it heh.Where I work currently I also had toruble getting linux onto my box as it's a temporarily unused Dell Poweredge server and the sata raid was incompatible with the base installers for a couple distro's we tried (we don't have the documentation for the actual type of raid controller so coulnd't even try loading drivers for it) Finally ubuntu managed to handle it on its own so thats where my story ends haha. Make sure to finish yours so In know if the poor old server ever got to be alive again
  4. NIce work indeed. I love the boondock saints one...but probably just because the movei kicks major *bottom* haha. The first and third one are really well done, straightforward and too the point without trying anything too flashy to make them tacky. The second one is fine I guess haha, just kind lacking...uh...anything. ACheived the whole 'stars' thing though so thats good. The fourth one is fine but I don't know how well it loks like it's sliding itno place. I think it's just because the blur seems to be everywhere... not just on the edge of the car. Makes me eyes assume the blur was just a background effect and the car is just in front of it. Maybe it'll look better to other people and maybe my eyes are just adjusting weird heh.But yea, overall awesome work. I like them.
  5. But thats something dating sims don't teach you, girls go for the "studs" not the "nerds" and therefor most of us are "**** out of luck" for getting the "hot girls"...no I have no clue why I used so many quotes thereBut yea, I assume dating sims in japan are like many other aspects between dif societies. Certain things just catch on and become more popular some places, and once something is popular that popularity often continues to grow. If it didn't catch on here at the beginning, they are doomed to lead a life of relative silence.
  6. Another thing to note is that you don't need to have a 100% wired or wireless network. THe majority if not all wireless routers have some wired ports on them, so you can save a few bucks and wire one or two systems to the router and use wireless for the rest if money is tight, this can be useful since alot of comps hav e wired ports built in but would bee a wireless card often.Regardless for a couple computers the setup won't cost -too- much money as the prices for things have dropped to reasonable prices.
  7. I am curious as to what everyone's favorite filesystem types are for linux. I only have a basic knowledge set about the varying filesystem types and the pros/cons so any and all information and opinions would be useful. Usually in the past if given the option upon installing a linux distro I've just used ext2 or 3 as I know they are both known to be stable and relatively fast. So are these actually the best or are there better alternatives out there? (Feel free to reccommend ones even if they aren't 100% stable, such as ReiserFS v4, but please make a note so I know not to assume it's perfectly complete heh)I've been doing some work on my system and will be reinstalling my linux distro and installing a new one (gentoo) soon enough so I figure getting some more insight into this could be nice. Thanks in advance.
  8. I haven't used a p2p more then once every couple months for quite some time... the only one I have installed though is limewire so I guess that one :SI used to have kazaa installed but it was evil so I burnt it at the stake and replaced it. MOstly I stick to bit torrents now instead of p2p proggies
  9. I'd have to go with psp, I don't own either but I've used both and the psp just feels like it is where a current gen handheld should be. If they had bumped the hardware up a notch for the DS (not even to psp levels, just sort of half way between the two) I would likely say DS. I too feel the stylus is kinda gimmicky but along with good horsepower it would be alright. The combination of all the homebrew PSP stuff along with the extra features and some of the games that are comming out for psp (the splinter cell and RE games look awesome... even if the RE is just a port its HANDHELD NOW :D). Plus you get sexyness points for a psp haha.
  10. For anything msn extra related I always send people to mess.be not sure if they have anything on winks thoThat having been said... winks are evil... they are a plague... stop wanting to make more :'( hehe
  11. Is KDE more responsive on other peoples machines? That's kind of interesting.. I haven't used the latest release of KDE that much but back in the day gnome always seemed snappier... maybe I'll have to give KDE another shot hehe. While I actually prefer gnome a bit for some reason, if KDE was more responsive I might switch over or at least give it another shot... I'm big on really responsive controls on a desktop. Eye candy is nice but irrelevant in comparison to the speed :| Well, to me lol
  12. I did read over the page, but it didn't seem like it would convince many people, especially no more so then actually sending them to another browsers website which would have more in depth details about what they have to offer...THats just my opinion though, good luck with it regardless
  13. Hmm, well this just sounds like spread firefox but also supporting opera... seems like it'd be easier just to support spread firefox lol.I only skimmed over your site, but I don't see exactly what the point is. Put a piece of code with a link to your site? Why not just tell people to goto the main sites for the browsers?... just seems kinda fishy to me is all
  14. Oh man! I've played games like this before, but never in this type of setting :| They've all been space ones mostly... this should indeed be a good time to be had :DThanks for posting the link, I've been looking for a new one of these w00
  15. Ah yes, the old school is strong here B)I don't actually have any of my old consoles currently... I still have ownership of a working snes and a semi-working nes buuut they are home with my parents (actually I think the nes is at my grandparents...) but I still play the games on emulators.Everytime I hear the intro music to Chrono Trigger I am screwed time wise as I need to at least play through the first portion of the game just to get a feel. Same with the old Final Fantasy games. I loved so many games in the nes/snes era but the RPG's were where it was at. They had such intensely addictive stories it was insane.OTher then RPG's breaking out a nice game of street fighter 2 or sonic is always a blast. Some of the old shooters and beat-em-ups were fun too. JUst drop in to play for 10 or 15 minutes to get a taste of them. New games take a big time investment usually to get the full enjoyment out of them but not the oldies (not all of them at least)Can't forget a shoutout for the entire Mario series. Those things were awesome fun too. I remember losing my life to Super Mario World when it came out haha. My mom thought I was going to get sick playing it so much :SNow when I get home I know I'm going to fire up the emulators haha. Ah well, there are worst ways to spend my night I guess hehe.
  16. Nice indeed. It makes me want a new computer Mines getting to be a couple years old and I wont be able to upgrade for another year or two... stupid "not having money" hehe. Actually I might upgrade at the end of this year and pimp the hell out of the system I buy so it lasts me awhile, but we'll have to wait and see I guess.NIce case choice, not my personal style but pretty cool nonetheless.I'm also curious as to the price hehe
  17. After I learned basic html I used dreamweaver for a fair while. IT's good for making quality sites with little effort or knowledge, but you don't learn much really. Personally I prefer just using text editors with syntax highlighting for the various web languages (html, php, etc)My favorite would be bluefish. I used to use some random ones for windows but since I found bluefish I usually stick to doing my web editing in linux and use the fish. It's nothing amazingly special it just has a nice flow and layout for my liking. Setable syntax highlighting, easy file navigation, good stuff. Handles all the usual types of files and if you use a different one you can still choose which type of syntax highlighting to use.
  18. OH MAN! I used to play Zork all the time! Good times haha. They were so freaking addictive it's not even funny. Nowadays people would need to work hard to let go of the pretty graphics addiction to fully enjoy such a masterpiece of a text based adventure, but damn I enjoyed those games back in the day.
  19. I choose linux, mostly for the reasons that have already been stated. Security, the power of the CLI, the general feeling of solidityt of the OS, the lack of annoyances of windows :|To furthur the comments on ease of use, I've had numerous people I know of varying ages from young to older use my linux system. They were able to intuitively and quickly find a web browser and text editor easily. As soon as I told them the name of an instant messenger, they were chatting away. I didn't have to explain anything except the names of a few programs and they didn't ask a single questions.Certain distro's may have more complicated software setup (dependency issues for example) but thats the only downside of linux I can think of. Even the install of the linux OS is more user friendly then windows now. Sure installing some of the more hardcore distro's isn't, but installed mandrake or ubuntu or fedora will be as simple if not more simple then windows AND you'll be COMPLETELY ready once it is complete. Windows takes me hours of installing extra stuff once the os finally is done installing. Linux installs, I do an update, and I'm ready to rock. The concept of being user friendly also doesn't mean being user friendly the M$ way. Linux is user friendly in different ways. Installations are (sometimes) harder depending on your distro, but then virtually all distro's make numerous other things more straight forward using the CLI or even simply the way the GUI handles things.Personally I would say neither is necessarily HUGELY more user firendly, but I would lean towards linux being better if they literally have no computer experience. Once they are tainted by windows it might make it a bit more difficult tho
  20. I'll throw another vote AVG's way. I used it until I was given a copy of mcafee and it worked wonderuflly. IT has regular updates and a good feature set and is quite a speedy little scanner. It's a quick download and a strong way to keep your system safe from viruses (as long as you still use common sense... no opening weird email attachments or running exe's from random people you don't know on messengers haha)No antivirus is perfect, but AVG is really solid, especially considering the price tag
  21. Before I vote, I'll ask if you mean only in the organized fashion you mentioned , as a culturally accepted act, or as an emergency reaction. I mean if I was stranded without food waiting for rescue and a companion died... you could live a fair while extra off the food provided by a human :|As far as culturally accepted, I would agree with the 'hell no' aspect. I think there is a reason modern more developed cultures have moved away fromm such acts... because it's messed the **** up haha. Eating your own is about as animalistic as you can get... and even animals often choose to not eat their own if other options are available. But in EXTREME cases of survival it would be acceptable I guess...
  22. nopainers, if you think google is being careful to not upset microsoft... you should pay more attention to the tech news Google is pretty much blocking M$ everytime they try to expand their online presense. They beat hotmail, beat msn search, they have an IM client, they have their hands in almost everything you can do online. They aren't exactly trying to not make any companies into enemies if they are expanding into that many different parts of the tech market.
  23. I never did get that much into the third one oddly enough. I loved the second but I haven't played much of the third. I think I'll need to give it another shot sometime. I probably just wasn't in an RTS type of mood at the time. I know I loved the second one even just playing the AI sandbox modes so it wouldn't make sense for me to not love the third, since its better graphics, better gameplay/controls, better paceing, better seemingly everything. They really did this as a proper sequel should. Take what was good, fix what was not so perfect, and don't break anything.
  24. Awesmome guys, thanks for the info I'll be sure to let you know when I'm starting and if I have more questions hehe
  25. Hm, I'm kinda sad to hear that, would have been interesting to see what they did with it. Not that I'm overly surprised that it was all just a hyped rumor, but still, would have been an entertaining ride heh.
