  1. What do you think of my Slide Show? I've been working on this for a awhile and finally think I've got it. Tell me if it doesn't work with your browser. It works best if you have pop-ups enabled, but works even if you don't. (I know I never have pop-ups enabled!)
  2. QuickTime isn't old, it's just not for the same purpose as Flash. I would just use the redirect you showed above. Thats what I use for my redirects on my slide show and it works fine. I don't think there is a way. If I were you I would just forget the intro even if you could do Flash.
  3. I learned CSS from http://www.yourhtmlsource.com/stylesheets/introduction.html. And here is a really good place with all the (or at least most of) the CSS code: <http://www.tizag.com/cssT/reference.php> It's were I go for a quick reference to get all my CSS code. CSS is really nice, specially if you have one external Style Sheet for your whole web site, it makes updateing themes and colors so much easier. Have fun!
  4. That Mac OS X clone for Linux is awesome! It looks really good! Does the dock really work and everything? That is so cool. Thanks for the link, I'll have to try to add it to my Linux computer. I'll be able to use OS X for any occasion. Do you use that theme most of the time?
  5. In addition to the conveinte size and weight, I like the look, they are so much brighter and have a crisp look. I have and LCD on my computer. It's a 12" Apple LCD monitor on my iBook. So I guess you were probably talking about LCD monitors on a desktop, but thats okay. It's an older monitor and only goes up to 600 x 800.
  6. What makes the other mp3 players so much better than the iPod shuffle? I would like to compare them. Have any links? I don't really want an iPod shuffle, but I would like to see how it compares to other flash players. And as far as most companies making there products revolutionary and different, they do that so people want to buy their product. So thats what Apple did with the other iPods, made cool new products, but for the shuffle they only needed the iPod name to make people want to buy one as a cheaper alternative to a full fledged iPod.
  7. Thats very true. You have to separate the two items. Windows XP is the best for gamin mostly because most games are written for it, not because it's really a better OS for gaming. Amen! The one thing I don't like about Linux is how much it is like Windows. So true!
  8. Floppies can still be used, but there is almost always a better alternative. If the computer has internet access, files can be moved via the internet. If the computer has USB, files can be moved with a flash drive. Even burning CD's is an option. There's almost always a better alternative. So I think it is nearly the end of the floppy.
  9. Looks pretty good. I didn't see a price though. It seems a little bulky and I don't like the way it looks, but it's pretty cool. I guess it depends on the price. If it's more than about $500 I would just get an iPod photo, because there are small and lighter and I like the way they look better. But if you want those other features and have the money, go for it!
  10. Mac OS X is very easy to use. It's not as (I don't mean this as offensive at all:) "nerd-oriented" as Linux and, I think, very user friendly. I have never used Virtual PC, but I have heard that it is very good. There is a Sims for the Mac. I don't think there is a Sims 2, yet, but it should be soon.
  11. I agree with what your saying except for your choice for best general desktop, that's still more of a personal opinion thing. Personally, I like Mac OS X the best for general desktop. It has the Dock, Expose, and some other cool stuff. But I thing your right with everything else. It just matters what you want to do.
  12. I haven't you a floppy for years. I just email files, use a USB drive (I have a 256 MB drive and might get a 1 GB iPod shuffle for portable file storage), or post files online. Floppies are just way too small and they can get ruined way too easily. I miss my floppies, 3 inch and 5 inch!
  13. Right. There are a lot of applications for the Mac and it's not that Apple makes their hardware so that only work with Mac OS X.
  14. Yes, I'd rather take an iPod with a screen, but I wouldn't mind a cheap one that shuffled the songs, because, to tell you the truth, I bet most of the time when I listen to music I just have my music shuffled and don't even look at the screen, I'm doing something else while I listen. So I don't think the shuffle is too bad. the problem I would have would be that means no playlists. I like play lists because I like to listen to different kinds of music depending on my mood. But for those who want a cheap alternative, there's the shuffle.
  15. I'm not sure what you're refering too, but I'm sure you could find a way to get the same sort of thing with OS X. I don't think I follow you there. or you can use the Dock that has all you most used and open applications: I think you'd like Safari. It is a GOOD browser. ( alot better than IE ) And Firefox is availbe for the Mac. iChat is also a AV IM client for AIM and I've heard that in the furture it will support Jabber so you can use it with any IM protocol. Apple already has AppleScript wich is an awesome scripting language thats pretty easy to use, but when Automator come out then it will be easy for anyone to use. I'm excited for that. yes, you are right! If Longhorn ever actually comes out... Mac hard ware can run any software written for it. It's just that no one writes an OS for a computer that has such a small market share and one company owns the computer and OS. I do believe there is a Linux version for the Mac. again, no one makes compatible computers because of Apple's "monopoly" on the Mac. When Macs were more popular (in the 80's) companies made computers than ran Mac OS. right, but Apple doesn't want to give up it's OS or hardware just do get a few more users. Apple's mindset is different. It's not like, say, Dell's. They could have more sales, but thats not what they are after.
  16. I wouldn't really want them but they are popular: And the Apple store in SF sold all of it's 2,000 iPod shuffles in four hours. So people are buying a cheap iPod. Maybe I'll get both... hehehe...
  17. Yeah, get the creative if you only want, what, a 100 songs? but it's you choice. I not really too excited for a flash player either, I'll have to see... Those 20 and 40 GB iPods look pretty tempting...
  18. I agree with you on that one for the most part. I don't think the Mac mini will recruit any switchers, but those that are deciding to try a Mac because they love their iPod will find it easier to buy a Mac because now they have a more "dell-priced" option. And they can use their old keyboard, mouse, and monitor and only have to buy a new CPU. The Mac mini (I believe) is more to accommodate for switchers, rather then create them. Apple's "mindset" is that they are trying to make a good overall system. Mac OS X is awesmone. I like Apple's machines. They have something to be desired and aren't for some one who like building custom PC. I don't know the last time you look at Mac OS, but if you are talking about Classic, I can understand why you didn't like it. Mac OS X is SO much better! Well it was introduced on Tuesday! Yes this is the picture of my idea: I agree with you: The size of the mini, I think it was mostly for the look and it does look cool. But it should be pretty portable. You brought up some great points, great talking with ya'.
  19. What do we all think of the iPod shuffle? It's a nice little item, but I think I'd rather invest some extra money and get an iPod mini or 20 GB iPod. I need the HD space. My internal HD only has 10 GB of storage and I'm running a bit low.
  20. You're right Mac news doesn't get out much, as I can tell by your post. Let me correct you a bit: Apple's mouse only has one button, but supports a two button mouse quite nicely, including spell checking of all text. Yes, it won't be as good as the G5, it's only an entry level machine and I think it should do very well at introducing people to the Mac. It will also make a nice second ("or third or fourth," as Steve said) computer for Mac users. Would work well in the family room to play DVD's record TV, play MP3's, etc... It's very portable. I've already thought about clustering: I think Apple has done well.
  21. The 60 GB iPod is an iPod photo so it's meant to hold pictures too. Not to mention that all the iPods work as portable HD's for any kind of file. The iPods battery is rechargeable, so you only need one.
  22. Security is a concern, but I think Google would probably be as safe as any with security.
