  1. Yeah it has been enabled and I have used it for months.
  2. Yeah uni.cc is great. Too bad they can't no longer give proper domains (ie. not redirection). Other similar great service is http://www.dhs.org/ .
  3. Wasn't it like 8 months ago when games actually started benefit from having more than 128MB? If there is no actual games that use the whole memory I think its kind of pointless to buy that expensive cards right now.... You could buy a top-notch 256MB card now and save the money and then get a top-notch 512MB card when the games get there. They'll be lot cheaper then too. But yeah, guess it'd be cool to show off to ignorant friends.
  4. Hehe. I'm the only one so far with 3. The poll said how many are connected to your computer... I have this one main 19" CRT which is usually the only one in use. Occasionally I like to turn on the 17" on sitting right beside the 19". That's usually when I'm working, it's neat to have an IDE on the main window and music players, IM and SSH windows on the extra monitor. I'm don't do a lot photoshopping but when I do, keeping the tools one the extra monitors is really handy. The third on is my telly. Whihc is actually a small one but well positioned couch-wise so once in a while I put a movie or music video to play on it. By the way by graphics card supports only two monitors at the time so I can't actually have all three on at the same time. But they're all connected...
  5. My site give 403 as well...It did it earlier today... then it worked for a while again and now it's forbidden again. Hope it gets sorted out soon...
  6. I can't login with SSH. What's up?
  7. Word!! Peoples surfing habits have changed greatly from what it used to be like 10 years ago. The people would bother checking small websites, bookmarking them and coming back just in case there happened to be some new content. Now... well they google and want their answers, pictures or whatever they're looking for fast. To get people to regularly visit your site you need to have that something that attracts them. They don't come back to see your fancy web design again. It's been mentioned more than once in this thread but it can't get more emphasis, it's the content! But the best thing about it is that you don't have to produce it all yourself... Get your visitors to participate! Offer them easy ways to submit material. A forums is probably the easiest way to go. If you manege to pull off an forum with at least few regular quality posters it is a great start. hold these members in value, offer them administrative positions in the forums or possibility to post articles/picture/whatever to other sections of the site. Build a team around you. Great thing about having activity in a community is that more you have the more you will likely to be getting. Other thing that might work is posting new on your site. It doesn't often matter if the news are one or two days old and just small comment style postings with links to other sites. People like to have news of a certain topic on a one place and if you just keep posting them actively, your site could become a place where people could keep up with whats happening in the hobby or scene or whatever your site is about. In this news posting you could also benefit from having a group of active people helping you.
  8. HeyI just recently got a Nokia 6260 smartphone. I've pretty much gotten the programs that made me purchase it in the first place. Anyone else using a Series 60 phone? And do you know any good software for it? Links please.
  9. I don't understand why people use dot.tk... Sure its free... but you get popup ads, a big ad on site entrance and your site is inside a frame. A proper top level domains costs less than $10. A sum of money that should be a problem for anyone who has money to use internet. And besides, if your site has some traffic you could easily earn that ten dollars bu running your own ads (for example Google adsense). And sorry guys, but dot.tk domain gives a kind of unprofessional impression.
  10. Well I've never used an Internet dating service. I don't think there's anything wrong with the basic idea: people are busy and not all want to hang out at typical places to meet new people... BUT sites with ads like that just look very suspicious. And its a huge understatement to say that the ad you posted is misleading.
  11. Just bear in mind that you should always be using some sort of control structures when handling with the GET variable to prevent people from doing funny stuff with your site. Ie. use a a switch structure like overture showed in his post. DO NOT do this: include($_GET['page']);
  12. Did I understand correctly, you have a Wi-Fi router to which you connect with two or more computers and the router is connected to an external dial-up modem? The modem won't be able to acquire several IPs so the router needs to be using NAT. Have you tried it? If you have and it doesn't work, I don't belive the configuration will work.
  13. As far as I'm concerned, it is not illegal to scan open ports. At least if you do it for a purpose and on small scale and do not try to go around a firewall for example.Port scanners are not also illegal and like IcedMetal said, you should be able to find one from google. Just be careful what you download as we're a bit in the "grey area".
  14. Yeah, SMF is really great. I switched from the crappy phpBB to it few months ago and I couldn't be more satisfied. The change itself was quite painless, even though I had heavily modded phpBB. The importing tool available at simplemachines.org almost did it's job. As I had the categories hierarchy mod in phpBB, the importer just could do the change perfectly so I had to do some stuff with the admin panel and the database. That was just few hours work and was well worth it. I also got good feedback from my visitors too. First time they felt a little confused with the new board but once they got used to it and I simplified my categories and forum structure a bit there's been no problems. I don't know if it has anything to do with the new software but the activity in my forums has risen a bit.
  15. Might be a good idea to mention what forums software you are using. Also to post the question to Computers & Tech > Software > Bulletin Board SystemsI'm sure someone there will be able to help.
  16. This doesn't seem as effective as Project Honey Pot, which just won't deal bogus emails to spammer, but will actually gather information about them to give to the authorities.
  17. If anyways possible, I'd recommend enrolling for an a course on basic programming. Failing that you should get a book. There's lot of them out there and you should be able to find some 2nd hand for quite cheap.
  18. What the hell is this topic doing in JavaScript? On the topic... SMF is the best free forums software. You need hosting package with PHP and MySQL (asta has). The installation itself is really easy.
  19. There's something seriously wrong with your site. I tried with Netscape, Firefox and Opera and the page won't show. In Firefox it ended in some sort of reload loop. It worked in IE though. I tried to read the page source but apparently its done with some wysiwyg editor which doens't add line changes to the code, making it really annoying to read. But I could figure out some javascript there which checks browser version. Try removing it and see if it works.Oh and if it doesn't, you could format the HTML so that someone actually would bother to read it and post it here. *a mod can merge my posts*
  20. There is no other options than an semantic error in the query (limit 1, X) or you have called mysql_fetch_array once earlier.
  21. You could do general definitions that work all over your site without the need to use "class="classname"" at every form element. This works in proper browsers: input[type="radio"] input[type="checkbox"]input[type="text"]input[type="submit"]etc... Then of course you can pseudo-classes, like input[type="text"]:hoverinput[type="text"]:focus Particularly changing background (color or image) on focus is very user-friendly and prosessional looking. I personally like to add :hover borders for checkboxes and radio buttons. In general using similar forms all over your site is good site and good UI designing.
  22. There is a way open links in new window without Javascript and using valid XHTML. You can add more methods to XHTML. You can either load a DTD supporting target or add it to it inside the <!DOCTYPE> What to add is: [ <!ATTLIST a target CDATA #IMPLIED> ] Notice that most browsers (including geckos and IE) show "]>" at the top of the page. This sucks but you can hide it using CSS change it to background-color. Also I believe it will disappear from Geckos at least. Opera does not show it.
  23. Wow! Those are really cool. Would you allow using one of them if I credited you?
  24. Wow... It's been few years since last time I participated in a straightedge thread. First of all I want to set some things straight (no pun intended). There's lot of crap about straightedge (or sXe as it's commonly abbreviated). 1. Straightedge is a person who is into punk/hardcore music, doesn't drink, doesn't some, doesn't do illegal drugs and doesn't sleep around. And who considers him/herself a sXe. 2. You don't need to be vegetarian or vegan to be sXe. Many people are, but its just because vegetarianism/veganism is another thing that many hardcore bands are about and sing about. Notice that there are lot of vegetarian/vegan people in the hardcore scene who do drink/smoke/do drugs. 3. Straightedge is not a movement! Or it shouldn't be. It's a personal choice. 4. Its small fraction of straightedges who go and beat people who aren't. Just certain per cent of people are dumb enough to do such thing. Just don't think all are. 5. The sex thing... sXe doesn't mean selibacy, it means that you don't do night stands and such. I do consider myself a straightedge and my definition is the five points above. I'm into hardcore, I don't drink, don't smoke and don't do drugs. I have sex with girls that I consider I'm dating, (and I'm dating them one at a time ). All my friends do drink, some smoke and some have done drugs. I don't mind, its their choices. I don't push my ideas to them, I'm willing to discuss if someone asks but I never preach. For me being straightedge is party because its healthy sure... But it's also protest. I don't approve what certain companies are doing so I choose not use their products. And besides I'm nuts enough without any substances. And about hardcore... Someone said that it's not healthy for you because it's depressing blah blah... Now this isn't true. Just check out bands like 7 Seconds or Good Clean Fun (both sXe btw). It doesn't get any more positive than that! Some hardcore bands might put their message out in a bit harsh way but they're usually about a positive change in society, taking care of each other, the environment and animals. For me hardcore has brought whole lot of stength and hope to my life. And people... don't mistake thinking some bands that actually play metal are hardcore... The line is sometimes hard to see but it's there. You just have to follow the scene for couple of years. The metal **** is the on that's depressing...
