  1. well the web standards html/css sure aren't going to change. That is on the client side... parsed in the browser. There would be no need for that to change. And unless these new servers have some odd compatibility issue that I am not aware about I'm pretty sure server owners can and will put php on their new servers.
  2. I was emailed this link from a friend of mine. I am not quite sure what to make of it. It seems possible, but not probable. They are making it seem easier than it will really be. CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research), has apparently discovered a way to make the internet ten thousand times faster than typical broadband is today. Apparently the project started when CERN needed a way of accessing gigantic amounts of data from their Particle Accelerator in remote locations. With a grid of servers around the world and fiber optics interconnecting them all, one could download a high definition feature film in seconds. If this project is a success, gone are the days of waiting for something to download. Source: http://www.thetimes.co.uk/... /article3689881.ece
  3. This is why bank of america has a sitekey. I think its a great security feature. Basically when you want to login, you can only the username field is visible, and if you are logging into a computer you haven't logged into before it asks you a series of security questions and then displays your sitekey and a password field, and your sitekey is unique to your account. This way if you don't see your sitekey, you don't login. Now that may seem a bit too much effort for gmail to do this, but you could have an option where you want to use a sitekey.
  4. I guess you never bothered to read the entire topic. I explain this many times. Airplanes actually travel underground and there is special high-tech 3d projection that gives you the illusion of actually being up in the sky.
  5. Hilarious or possible? Have you personally flown around the world? How do you know your whole life isn't a lie? Perhaps if you weren't so closed minded you could open up to new possibilities.
  6. Happy Birthday Dude!

  7. I fear that truefusion may be right. Taking over the government basses have been quite easy. Perhaps they are doing this to lead us into a trap. I have been thinking a lot about this since I last read it. Perhaps we should lay low for a while until they have forgotten about us. Then again, we've caused too much havoc for that to happen. We have recruited a new member. For his safety his name will not be disclosed in this post. We have also found evidence that we may have been populated from another planet, but before we talk about that we want to get our facts straight. The last thing we want to do is spread false data on the internet.
  8. Ok, first thing you guys need to realize is this is a 4 year old topic, second thing is that google changed their algorithm so googlebombs don't work anymore. The website actually has to have the term somewhere on the page you are linking for it to count, that way people cant do bombs like "miserable failure" anymore.
  9. Well first of all one liners like that post is going to get your hosting denied. Right now it's not approved or denied. It's pending moderation. You must understand that even though you may sit next to your computer all day long, the rest of us have lives and that includes the admins who approve or deny hosting. Remember that you did just apply a few hours ago. If a day goes by and you're still concerned you could PM Opaque or buffalo help. I do suggest you learn the definition of patience in the mean time. I've kindly linked to it for you.
  10. $select111=mysql_query("SELECT * FROM map WHERE x >=1 && y <=15");A few problems. First of all I've never used && in sql. I'm not quite sure if that works or not. I'd try capital AND. Also where are your other two comparisons? Remember you want to select the tiles between something. This is just kind of an odd query. I wouldn't suggest using separate numbers here unless you wanted the player to be off center. So here is how you would figure out your query: $verticaltiles=10;$horizontaltiles=10;//SET PLAYER X AND Y TO THESE VARIABLES:$x=playerx$y=playery$select111=mysql_query("SELECT * FROM map WHERE x>=".($x-$horizontaltiles/2)." AND x<=".($x+$horizontaltiles/2)." AND y>=".($y-$verticaltiles/2)." AND y<=".($y+$verticaltiles/2)); Tell me if this works.
  11. Well... I wasn't going to post here but since you were waiting for me to "butt in" I'll give you my two cents. There are a few ways you can do it. One would be just plain refreshing as you had mentioned. This should be easy enough. Just have an x position and a y position for every user in sql. Then what you do is you have a table called map with x(int), y(int), and image(string), where x and y are the x/y coord of that tile and image is the url to the image of that tile. You then decide how many tiles you want your viewable area to be (lets say 10). And then have sql select all tiles and users grater than or equal to your y -10 and x -10, but less than your y+10 and x+10. And then you can lay them out in a table. Now that way would work but if you really wanted to make it fancy you could do it with javascript and ajax like shaddow suggested. And yes javascript can get the mouse position. But be sure to use javascript, DO NOT use java. It is TERRIBLE. It is slow, buggy and just loves to run out of memory. Trust me it's not pretty.
  12. I just want to remind people what the "Most likely to become bill gate's boss" one is. It is NOT who is the mastermind programmer who created marvelous sites for us all to enjoy, because OpaQue would win that hands down. BUT It is the replacement category for Mad Scientist. It states that it is for the person who has written the most creative posts in "My theories, possible inventions etc etc" Which if you don't mind me pointing out: Opaque has only written one topic under that forum >_<. Now I'm not saying don't vote for OpaQue for anything because he definitely deserves to win trapper of the year and quite a few others... BUT I'm just asking you all to remember who spent hours of slaving over a hot computer writing tons of informational and interesting theories in that board... And no I'm not being conceded here. It's the only award I really want to win.
  13. This is not what it is. It doesn't feel anything like being tired. It feels like your life force is being sucked out of you. First thing to go is your sight and stability, and then goes your logic. You can't think of anything no matter how hard you try. There is nothing on your mind other than the relaxing feeling of going into a daze, no matter how hard you try to stay out of it. Even pain is non existent until you find yourself on the floor with blood all over the place and a huge gash in your side from landing on a filing cabinet.
  14. I've got a 2007 honda civic SI I love it so much I made a topic about it when I got it Click here to go there. It's a blue coupe, well as you can see from the pic. Manual 6-speed transmission, custom seats, aluminum race-inspired foot-petals... the works.
  15. Thats interesting, i thought most older folks take medicine for high blood pressure but yeah... You should mention this to your doctor and see what he said, because mine hasn't helped me much.
  16. Copy and paste the address from the url bar when it says unable to open. There may have been an error in my code somewhere. I need to actually see this to help you figure out what is going on.
  17. This happens to me about 8 times a day. Whenever I get up too fast, my head starts to swim and I start to black out. I've only completely fallen to the floor twice. (Once I took a drawer from a metal filing cabinet with me and it wasn't too pretty).. I've more or less mentioned it to my doctor, and he suggested that it's low blood pressure. He measured my blood pressure and agreed with his initial hypothesis. He recommended that I drink more sodas (which is good eh? usually doctors say to stay away from the sweets) and eat salt (BLEAHH I HATE SALT). This was about 2 years ago. I still have the same problem but it seems to be getting more frequent every month.
  18. I suppose it wouldn't be so bad if I saw a very well done piece of art on a public place like a freeway sound barrier, or a subway, but I do not want any graffiti on my fence, no matter how artistic it is. Private property should be just that, private. Public is public property, owned by the city so it technically isn't as bad as private but the kids who go around doing this kind of stuff don't distinguish between these two. Their only goal is for their art to be seen by as many people as possible, weather it be on a city street, or on a fence on my back yard.
  19. Thats a terrible solution. Not only do you make people not want to go to your website, but you don't protect anything. If you are talking about protecting your html code, that is impossible. When you load a website in your browser the server is actually sending that html code to the browser and the browser can read it. Just because there is some annoying script that blocks right clicks doesn't mean your computer still doesn't see it. Even if there was a way to use javascript to block the view source option under the view menu, you could technically still see it, you're only blocking the computer "noobs" if you will from seeing it. The source is still sent and if you are somewhat decent in programming you can still get it. NOW the reason you don't see php code in the source is because it is NEVER sent to the browser. It is compiled at the server and the OUTPUT is sent to the browser. Now alex, I never have any idea what you want in your posts because they are never clear, and they are usually stupid and pointless questions, but I will try to explain this to you the best that I can. When you say some pages have "dsjdsb" at the end I assume you're talking about the get variable that is passed to them? It could also be an anchor but that doesn't change anything anyway. PHP has a very easy way of getting these variables with the $_GET array. It automatically fills this array for you, where the index is the variable name passed in the url and the value is, well, the value. Now there is no point in hiding the index.php that shows up, because it doesn't even look bad. I don't go to a website and say "OH THE WEBSITE URL HAS INDEX.PHP IN IT!!! OH MY GOD I BETTER GET OUT OF HERE". No I say "WOW THIS FREAKING WEBSITE HAS SOME KIND OF LAME JAVASCRIPT THAT PREVENTS ME FROM RIGHT CLICKING!!!! OH MY GOT I BETTER GET OUT OF HERE". So yes If you read the mod rewrite tutorials you may be able to do it. I'm not entirely sure but I think some browsers add the index.html or whatever when you navigate to a directory and don't put in the end slash. Example, point the browser to yoursite.com/images/ not yoursite.com/images
  20. I do like to save up credits and give them away to different members, but I am terrible at coming up with the challenges that members must answer to get the credits. If anyone wants to post different difficult, but not impossible challenges for members to answer I will supply the credits for the winner. Any member (hosted or non hosted) who can come up with difficult and creative challenges can apply here. You don't need to be hosted because I can send the winning credits directly to the winner (the winner needs to be hosted of course). And when I accumulate enough credits to hold another giveaway I will PM my challenge writer to come up with a new one. So anybody out there interested?EDIT: well i suppose you do need to be hosted to apply here since I posted in the hosted members area, but if a non-hosted member wants to apply they could PM me.
  21. Thats really too bad that it hasn't sprouted yet. I was looking forward to seeing what was going to come of it, but it may be growing, just not large enough to peep out of the soil. If you do decide to dig it up do it carefully and try not to kill it, and if you see it growing bury it back and wait for it to sprout. I just think it would be way cooler if you grew it from a seed rather than bought a pre-grown one.
  22. I know, you weren't very clear in your initial post so I provide two solutions. There would be two different ways of doing this. One would be just to send the path over a get modifier, but you may not want that becasue you want to be in the directory that it shows you? That may not have been too clear. Here is a basic explanation of the two solutions: SOLUTION 1: you go to your website, let's say its at example.com/ and you see your file browser Lets say you have 3 directories under your root directory called "images", "stuff", and "more stuff". So when you view your site at example.com/ you see 3 links titled "images", "stuff", and "more stuff". And if you were to click on one of the links it actually doesn't go to that directory, but only sends the data of which one you clicked on via the get variable to the same page, so clicking on "images" would bring you to example.com/?dir=images rather than example.com/images, but you would be able to view the files in that directory. If this solution works for you here would be the code to do it: <?$path=isset($_GET['dir'])?$dir:"./";$dir_handle = @opendir($path) or die("Unable to open $path");while ($file = readdir($dir_handle)) {if($file == "." || $file == ".." || $file == "index.php" )continue;echo "<a href=\"?dir=".$_GET['dir'].$file."/\">$file</a><br />";}closedir($dir_handle);?> SOLUTION 2: If you want the file browser to show up on every page that doesn't have an index file on it, you can either go through the long process of adding a php file to every directory you want it in and change the $path variable to the current path but that is just tedious. There should be a way of setting directories that don't have index files to point to a certain php page, using htaccess?? Possibly? I'm not quite sure. I'm not too savvy with that file. If you can get it to point to a php file then you would just use your php code with one slight modification: <?$path = ".".dirname($_SERVER['PHP_SELF']);$dir_handle = @opendir($path) or die("Unable to open $path");while ($file = readdir($dir_handle)) {if($file == "." || $file == ".." || $file == "index.php" )continue;echo "<a href=\"$file\">$file</a><br />";}closedir($dir_handle);?>
  23. You make a good point here, but there are two reasons why I disagree with your post. First of all I like to see what other members think of a certain post. Not everyone has the same opinion. They may have a much different rating that I would give the post, and I find it interesting how many people agree with me and how many don't. But the main reason I like this is because when I see a member's post I find it interesting of their overall rating in the forum. How many posts he has made that the members like, and how many posts he has made that the members don't like.
  24. Well yes, if you put "GET" in the parameter it will send the variables using get rather than post. It just depends on what type of variable your php page is looking for. And you can send strings the same way you send any other variable. Just set them to a string rather than a different variable. And, I don't know why you added variable=0 to the second parameter. It should just be 0. You can put a level in there if your code is executing on a different level.
  25. If I am understanding you correctly, you want it so when you click on a folder, it shows you the files in that directory? If so, are you changing the path when you travel inside the subfolders? If not, then that would be your problem, but if you want to show files under that dir in the same page I would recommend recursion. Something like this: <?function display($path){$dir_handle = @opendir($path) or die("Unable to open $path");while ($file = readdir($dir_handle)) {if($file == "." || $file == ".." || $file == "index.php" )continue;echo "<a href=\"$path$file\">$file</a><br />";if(is_dir($path.$file)){echo"<table><tr><td width='50'></td><td>";display($path.$file."/");echo"</td></tr></table>";}}closedir($dir_handle);}display("./");?> This code was tested and works like a charm.
