  1. Ok this is very, very strange... but ever since I've read this post, I've been having similar issues. At first I almost didn't believe that something like that was possible, but google has been very, very slow for me recently. Every other site just zips right through, but when I go to google, especially during times of high internet usage like on weekends and nights, it takes about 30 seconds to load, (which is a lot, trust me). And no, I'm not on cable, I'm on DSL, so it shouldn't be affected on how many people in my area are surfing the net. And It only applies to google. No other site seems to be slowing down... How odd.
  2. Uhhh... You buy it in a store? I mean isn't it for sale? *googles it* Yup you can buy it for you're pc here.
  3. If you would have bothered to read QuickSilva's post then you wouldn't be asking that. He laid out some excellent php code you can use. And perhaps if you can't do things like image CAPTCHA's even when they are so politely handed over to you on a silver platter, perhaps you shouldn't be doing projects as complex as you are doing.
  4. It's not that bad actually. The only thing it needs is a better texture and bump map. Almost in every case, a model that doesn't look realistic can be brought to life with the correct texturing and lighting. Also you may want to tone down your death ray thing that is coming out of it It is kind of difficult to see the cannon itself Remember in starwars there were like 6 separate beams that combined into one, not one long one.
  5. Well of course it is... This topic is 3 years old. You don't expect any of those make money online sites to last any longer than a few months do you?
  6. Ah I had a very similar problem here with my friend. Those firewalls do make it more secure, but they are many times annoying when it is a legitimate mistake.
  7. That's very interesting and I wish you the best of luck. I know I wouldn't have the patience to do that. I would give up in a month But it's good that you're doing this on your blog because that will inspire you to finish. At least if you're posting on you're blog you won't be as inclined to give up because you would have to say that to all of your faithful readers.
  8. Well you sure wouldn't be able to do this only with php. You would have to set up some kind of special business deal with your phone company, and then set up the charges and what not, and then most likely get your own dedicated server that could send out SMS's, and then finally have php bridge the gap between the user on the internet at the sms. I'm not quite sure how this would work. I have seen some websites that can send and receive SMS's, but I'm sure they are just not any average old host, you would have to set this up yourself, or find a rare host who can do this.
  9. Well I suppose you can put it that way, but the site I will be designing will be specifically for this giveaway, and will have one small security hole in it designed so somebody can win the competition.
  10. Its a simple dynamic image in php displaying the IP. It's not really that hard for a website to get your IP because you send it to the website every time you navigate to it.
  11. I love the new idea, only a few annoying bits as rvalkass said, to view each other's ratings you must first get rid of the menu. I would like to see the rating icon perhaps not even be part of that menu, and it would be nice if the list of ratings the post got was in the right side menu under the avatar and all that jazz just so we can at a glance see what others think of the posts without clicking on "list" on every post in the thread. Other than that I like it. I am not concerned about it being abused that much, yes I am sure that it will be by some, but after a while, there will be so many legit ratings that the few illegitimate ratings won't mean much.
  12. Hi, as you know I love giving away credits, and I was trying to think of the best competition for my upcoming one and I thought why not a hacking one? So, before I start working on it I wanted to make sure that it was allowed. I know Xisto doesn't support hacking "themed" websites, but thats not really what this is. Its just going to be a regular site and the competition will be to break my site by means of sql injection, js injection, and perhaps some other basic techniques. The first person to bring down the site will win. It is all for sport, no truly malicious attempts. So what do the mods say? Can I do it?

    Hello!

    Hello Jordan (Stricken)!! Welcome to the infamous Xisto! BWAHAHAHAHahahahaha. Ok perhaps not infamous, but probably famous, (and {evil}). So As the others have said you have come to the right place for hosting, and a great community and forums. Just make sure you read those rules and enjoy your stay here. Which coast? If you haven't noticed the US has two of them (three if you count the golf)
  14. Even though you can, it is never a good idea to sell back a copy of your OS. That disk is extremely important even if you already installed it. If you ever forget you administrator password, need to reformat, want a disk to boot off of so you can do things such as defrag etc... you will need to keep your leopard disk. You have no idea how many times I've gotten calls at the apple store of people who have a problem where the solution would be a mac os x install disk and they have giving theirs to a friend or lost it.For the piracy, you must remember that the os x install disk is not just any old dvd that you can just copy onto another disk by dragging the files over. You MAY be able to make a copy using disk copy but I'm not too sure i've never tried it. But why are you trying to pirate apple software anyway? I think leopard is well worth the $129 USD for all the extra features you are getting.
  15. Well hello there MrSandMan. Hopefully you won't put us to sleep with your posts ... ... ok that was a lame pun, i apologize. Anyway welcome to Xisto! The community here is great, and there is always new posts every day to read and comment on. Just make sure you read those board rules because the mods love waving their banstick around in our faces Its a great place to learn webdesign with all of the boards on html, css, javascript, php and all those other good ones that I'm always lurking in. There is a music board which you can find here but unfortunately there is no post count in that board which means you don't get any credits for posting there, so if you are working for your hosting its not going to help you, but you're always welcome to contribute to it if you want. I only post here for the community, so I do not mind where I spend my time posting, but some people do. Anyway back on topic. I do hope you will enjoy your stay here, and I will see you around the forums.
  16. Sounds like your ISP is playing a prank on you I doubt that google of all companies would be having any problems. Imagine the amount of backup servers they've got running? I haven't found any problems with it, and as you said you had no problems connecting to yahoo, so it just sounds like there may be some issues with your connection or your isp... Quite odd...
  17. So you are trying to run javascript actions from flash? Whenever I've done that I never did something as complicated as that. There may be an advantage to doing it another way but i'm not sure, but this is how I would always do it: geturl("java script:functionname();");where functionname is the name of the javascript function you are trying to call from flash.

    Pagination ?

    Well this question has been brought up plenty of times in the forums. A simple search could have helped you, but here is a quick query to do this for you: $resultsperpage=10;$result=mysql_query("SELECT * FROM content LIMIT ".$_GET['page'].",".$resultsperpage);
  19. The color scheme seems fit for your site theme, and it does look nice but it would have been nice to have had the whole thing centered instead of aligned left. The main thing that bugged me was all the ads. The home page just had the google adwords and the banner which is fine, but when I navigate to one of the subpages I am bombarded with ads of every type and I can't tell where the ads and the content begin and end. It just feels closed up. Open it up a bit. It doesn't hurt to have a few extra empty lines here and there instead of a whole jumble of text and images in one corner and the rest be dark grey.
  20. I still find it interesting that Microsoft is still trying to keep this browser going. People who do not understand different browser rendering engines are very confused when they see "this page is best viewed in firefox" etc... Some do not even understand that there are other browsers out there. The only solution I can see is for Microsoft to go with the GECKO layout engine. At least then all of the browsers would have somewhat of a standard and web developers wouldn't have to jump through hoops just to make their website compliant with all the different types of browsers. If Microsoft were to do this (which I doubt they ever will because they just love being in their own little fancy land world where everyone uses poor software and lives with it because they are not aware of better software), this would fix all of the problems. Getting people who are new to the internet to install firefox (or another browser) may be difficult because they do not understand what a browser is, but if IE were to have an update with the gecko browser layout engine or whatever you would call it, most of the people on the internet (except those who like living in the dark and never update their system or software) will be using a standard form of html. This would also eliminate bias of which browser displays pages the best. Rather people would use browsers that have the most features and render the fastest.
  21. Happy Birthday Dude!

  22. The only problem I see with your code is that if more time goes by than the cron is set for, it will only execute once. Mine will execute as many times as it would have if it was on a cron job. Both are good scripts, it just depends on what kind of script you want executed, and if its essential to happen the correct number of times.
  23. The loadVariablesNum method can do that too. And you can even specify if you want to send the variables to the server over post or get. I believe when you have the last parameter it automatically sends the server every variable that you have saved on that level. Example: loadVariablesNum ("file.xml", 0, "POST");
