  1. I will admit thought I thought about skipping class, but I knew better though that education was important and all that good stuff. However, I always had it in the back of my mind that I would be the one to get caught while those who I know are ditching wouldn't be caught or something.
  2. Well Why don't you do both, get another stick of 1GB RAM and then a CPU in the 2.0-3.0 range, just make sure your CPU has either L1 and L2 cache, or a nice high L2 cache, because with those cache's will help speed up your computer a bit quicker. however I think its your graphics cards that are slowing your system down, I would say disable one of them and see how the performance is, because you have to remember that some video cards do draw RAM and a bit of CPU to run as well and you might be over working it just a bit.
  3. Have you tried that card on another system? Also are making sure everything is connected correctly? and no funny business has happen while installing the PCI card? Also is it compatible with your motherboard? Did you disable the onboard video in your CMOS if your motherboard came with it?those questions should help out in answering the problem with your video card as those are the usual common problems when installing one.
  4. I like to make one correction on that post razor, what browser do you know takes up 100MB of RAM, right now firefox is taking about 2MB of RAM right now on my laptop, and in order to pull that off you would have to add almost every ff add on to get it that like that.As for your earlier post razor about the about:config I tried that before (made a post about it) didn't see much of an improvement, and you have to remember not every computer user is a programmer and have like a ton of software on there computer. Of course I like to know a person who bought a computer brand new with on 512MB of RAM, and I doubt you will get one person saying no less then 1GB of RAM.I would have to agree that most people are running 1-2Gb of RAM, while the small group is at the 4-8Gb range in RAM, and the rare computer users using more then 16GB (New Mac computers).
  5. Its the upgrade you got with your hosting account, since an upgrade also resets your account to 2 credits as well and so you got your password for free, and I doubt buffalohelp charge anyone for changing their passwords since it was a bit out of their hands. So that is why you lost all your credits because of that upgrade.
  6. Well welcome to Xisto.com, and I will say your in luck and found one of the best hosting companies on the the net. I will mention that this is a unique post to host website since we have a unique hosting system which consist of hosting credits, which you earn through post. So the longer your posts the more credits you get, and the max being 10 credits you can earn in one post, which means no spamming, no one liners etc. etc. To make your time more enjoyable is go here and read the the Xisto Read Me as it explains everything you need to know about how this forum works. So enjoy your posting and then your hosting, and when your ready to move beyond Xisto hosting services then I recommend the paid services of Xisto - Web Hosting.com. Since your a computer tech you will be able to bring in some good knowledge to the hardware and software forums and maybe teach me a thing or two as I recently finish a course in computer hardware a few weeks ago.
  7. I been told your spamming again, if you don't stop this spamming, I will tell the judge to give you life in spam. MUHAHAHAHA

  8. You went on vacation and didn't tell me **cries** :(

  9. The NVIDIA GeForce 7000 series cards are top of the line, a bit below the 8000 series though but still as good for gaming and what not. remember though gaming on a laptop is complete different then a desk top, due to the fact you can set up dual gfx cards on a desktop for some extra bang. As for the computer overall its a descent for the slow processor speed though. I have to ask some of the uk members because I know there is a UK version of the newegg website on the net somewhere, of course you can check out this uk website as it list some descent laptops.
  10. I am so glad that I did change my password a few months ago or be in the same boat as everyone else, because it was a common password as well, not dictionary common but common either way. I found an interesting site, well it was the first on the top of the list, this website test the password strength (how hard it is to crack). I wouldn't doubt there are other sites like that so make sure if you do plan to use this website make sure you alter the password once again just in case for double protection. one more thing never, ever, ever use a password generator regardless how secure they say it will be because it won't take much to crack how that generator works. Also here is a interesting article from Microsoft about security, yeah I know but it could still be useful though.
  11. Well I first find out if they actually do hardware replacement, and the only thing they would do is replace the current parts with the same but newer hardware without making you re-validated your windows operating system. It is true that replacing the gfx card or in fact any hardware in a laptop is some hard work since it is so cramped in there. So if you do get a new laptop make sure when your getting ready to sell the other computer, I would do a fresh reinstall on the laptop with all the updates and what not and so the person who does buy won't have any problems with the computer as is.
  12. Well before I go hunting for a new laptop, let me bring you a few suggestions to improve your old one. first off the reason your laptop gets hot is lack of ventilation, in which I suggest is get a notebook cooler, I had made a topic about several months ago and its been working wonders as I had my laptop get up to 119 degrees because of the bad ventilation I was doing to it. Also I would recommend updating your bios and drivers to your laptop and its gfx engine; although its bit hard to point you to right website to get your started on doing that without knowing more about your computer like where you got the computer from. Also if its still under warranty I would suggestion replacing parts of the hardware or getting it refurbished, and I would go through your computer and delete programs, defrag your computer and other stuff. I bet if you do some high level computer maintenance to your laptop it will be cooler and work better then ever, and so I would do those recommendations before thinking about getting a new computer first. If you need help getting your computer cleaned up and working properly again just send me a pm and I can talk to you through yahoo or MSN. I would say check out this link from newegg as I broke down a list of laptop computers in your price range. I would keep the RAM in that computer as you would want 2GB of ram in your new computer, and adding RAM to your new computer might cause some problem unless its the same type. However, since one of hte computers on the link I sent you, I doubt you will want to add the RAM anyways.
  13. Although I am the last person to dismiss firefox and how great it is, the one issue I think they need to fix is the memory usage, because the extensions are what take up most of the memory. However, I would say its the programmers fault as well for not cleaning up the coding for some of these extensions. I tested firefox a few times with all the add-on enabled all at once, which is about 50 now , and I know firefox crashes because of all of them are running all at once.
  14. Like I mentioned earlier pirate bay did get shut down once by the Swedish government, and in a matter of a few weeks were up again. Also the guy who runs the website mentions that they use over 40 servers and he only knows the location of one them. Although I wonder if the rest of the pirate bay crew know the rest of the locations of those servers, because it wouldn't make sense not to know them unless individual people are monitoring the servers and what. Which means that these guys know what they doing security wise and business wise as they are covering there tracks so not to suffer a system wide shutdown of their network.
  15. forbez don't you use firefox? If so go to tools > options > security > then click the show passwords button, it should have it listed unless you delete that list as well. As for IE and Opera I can't even remember and I check the security options for both browser and I must be missing something . Also I do believe if you send a support ticket to Xisto - Support.com I believe they will send you your password, if none of the options work then do what street mention and reset your password.
  16. I was going through my usual Yahoo security news and I though I post this up and hopefully shed some new light on protecting yourself from malware I find that interesting as it seems that the definition of Trojan has given itself an update in the last few years, since trojans back in the day were mostly used just to get inside the computer system, while viruses and worms would unleash their own payloads. Now it seems malware programmers found a way to combine two technologies into one; I should go duh since I pointed out the obvious to you uber geeks out there but it seems to make more sense now, to me at least. Some Information on the Glieder trojan. I would assume that keyloggers are in someway connected to this, , or with a cracker gets in your system installs a program that send emails containing the data and stuff. Nonetheless, this trojan would be a dangerous one in the fact that if a user does have this installed and is unaware of it, then someone will be enjoying their account either be that of email or online banking. Here is an interesting story about that trojan and the damage it has caused. Now this I find interesting, a person would design a false anti-virus program to cover its tracks, I find it interesting that these designers only went after Kaspersky and none of the other anti-virus programs out there, either way the programming to this trojan was interesting that it would delete other maleware and then have enough room for its own destuction. Info on this trojan. Now this one puzzles me just a bit but I take a wild guess and say that this little program does two things first encrypts itself so it be impossible to get rid of and two sends that random password to the designer of that trojan so as to enjoy a users computer. Story on this trojan If I remember correctly I made a topic about hackers/crackers using something like this in order to bypass the firewalls and enjoy themselves on a users computer. Story on this trojan Of course the usual answer to help protect from malware is make sure your computer, anti-virus is updated, don't open suspicious email attachments, etc. etc.
  17. The only way that you will know if your files have been altered if you go through them and match them against the ones on your computer, or if your files are not displaying correctly in the browser. I would think it would be appropriate to display the IP number that is being used so the hosted members can check it against the latest visitors log. Also I believe the RAW access logs can be used to check to see who has access the account. I know at the admin level they have all those logs as well so most likely they are cross referencing that IP number to all the account and see who else this person tag, because it seems Xisto got caught in this mess as well. The main question is though did the person go after individual accounts or did he get get root access in the system at all?
  18. You have to put in a request for the upgrade, and you would go here to fill out the form, and once the admin approve it they will reset your hosting credits to 2, and upgrade your account without losing anything or suffering any downtime. Your account won't get suspended until you go below 0 credits, and so you can have 10 credits in the default package without having any problems.
  19. back when I was using FF 1.5 it would crash a lot, however, I think the date and the post is a bit outdated in the sense that the only way to crash the current version of firefox is to overload it with add-ons and what not. Firefox does freeze on me sometimes but thats due to using most of my RAM and running several programs at once. I would say that fpost is coming from 2005 because of hte fact firefox first came out in 2003 and so I would say that topic is no longer relevant 2-4 years later when firefox 1.5 first came out.
  20. Ahh the good ole basics of php programming as it is useful in various programs, such as forums, browser base games, and other various stuff. Although it is interesting to know how to add those suffixes for the dates though.
  21. Although I put my laptop in standby mode and it usually boots in about 10 seconds, I would say it will be anywhere from 15-30 when I have to do a restart because of the stuff I have running on it. Yeah I could just change the options and blah blah run it faster, but those few seconds go by quickly and I am not missing anything while waiting for my computer to boot.
  22. Well as for stability you want Windows XP for an OS, as for Anti-virus I am a McAfee person but usually you hear Kaspersky and AVG, As for tune up programs I use various ones such as Advance System Optimizer, RAM Def, Glary Ultilities and a program I downloaded for free at the Giveaway of the day website is Registry Easy.As for what yordan mention about not needing anti-virus I would have to agree that some people are saying that you don't need it, unless you plan to go to questionable websites. As for tune up programs it depends really as there are a quite a few of them out there that claim this and that, but I think the only you will notice any difference with tune up programs is that you do some good wear and tear on the system to the point it get slow and you have a lot of junk on your system to see any improvement. I would though check out glary utilites though as it has some good stuff for being a small, plain GUI, program.
  23. Thats the thing though Mac computers have been a been a huge deal in schools for the last 10+ years, of course when you get a used outdated one they are fairly cheap then getting a brand new computer. For me though I have hated mac computer since the 1990 with the constant crashing and BWONG sound repeating itself over and over when it does crash. Of course the one thing Mac computers are having a problem on is playing games though, and although I have been out of touch on what Mac's can do, their set up could never play that many games, So has that change or are most Mac computers limited to what games can still be played on it?The only thing I know Mac are good for is heavy duty multimedia designing, I believe pixar uses Mac computers for their movies.
  24. Unless they added or updated the look to the emoticons then nothing has changed much for the US version; although I only used the web version of yahoo a couple of time on another computer since it wouldn't install for some reason. I wonder if they will try and update yahoo with a vista look or something since the old look is out of date and doesn't go well on a vista desktop.
  25. This is my list, prices may have drop since I ordered them 4 months ago. From the looks of it you can drop the hard drive, DVD drive you save yourself about $80 dollars. You can save yourself another $60 dollars if you already have a keyboard and a mouse, and I would suggest getting a different mouse as I still slap myself for getting that trackball . So as of right now this computer is at about $620. I would say you could save yourself even more cash if you replace the monitor with something more affordable; from what I saw on newegg you could get a LCD for $150 unless you go with a CRT monitor and save about $40 more with one of those. So that were my specs stand for what your trying to set up for your computer.
