As a newbie, I have had similar questions but I will give you one simple tip from my personal experience. Before anything else, you should assess your requirements and then spend your time accordingly. And if you are really into web-development industry, then I would recommend you to learn php and mysql. Once you get command over these two things, you would be able to do most of the things you see on the web, no matter whether it is a search engine or a simple website,.

@starscream, this is the exact reason why i now own a laptop instead of a powerful desktop, which i could have bought for much cheaper. But i guess in curent circumstances only laptops with battery backup of more than 2 hours are our only solution. In my country there are occasionally power failures that last for more than an hour several times a day. But power failures that last for more than two hours are not that common atleast in the city i live in. So a laptop that gives me two hours of battery backup even when i do demanding work is the choice for me and fortunately enough i my current laptop does qualify for this contion. So i would suggest yluateou to evaluate your needs first and then invest accordingly.

Age Of Empires II (Multi-player Over LAN)
Ahsaniqbalkmc replied to Chesso's topic in Computer Networks
I have played qge of empires ii multiplayer alot without any issue. But my setup was a bit different than yours. In my case, my friend and i were in the same room and we didnt have any router. What we had was a cross ethernet cable; the one which is normally used to connect two pcs together and share work and data. This LAN connection was setup without any issues. The only thing we had to take care about was to make.sure that firewall on both pcs is allowing the game to use the LANconnection. And then it was extremely sifinimple and smooth. So if this setup is practically vible for you, then i would definitely recommend it to you. -
I think sessions are different than cookies. I am not an expert php devloper but I tend to look around for various help topics about php development. And according to my information, a cookie is stored on user machine while a session is stored on the server. That is the main difference between the two. And this difference makes sessions more reliable and safe to be used with login type of scenarios. Cookies can be used to but I think nowadays there use has been reduced to sites that don't require high level of safety and that allow users to remain signed in for long periods of time (like many months). I don't remember the exact place where I read it but I read that it is better to use a mix up of both. For instance one should use sessions for authentication and other safety related stuff and then cookies to allow long term login support.

I also have a similar opinion. I personally am in favor of desktop computers because I think they are faster than their laptop couterparts. Furthermore they are easy to upgrade and repair. But I bought myself a laptop because I wanted to make sure that I would be able to work even in the absence of electricity and I could carry my work with me when I travel to distant places. The price at which I bought my laptop, I could have bought a Desktop with a much better hardware configuration plus a nice UPS to be protected against power failures. But then there was the question of portability and it was so important for me that I went for the more expensive and less performing option. Now if I am to buy a UPS, the portability reason would just die and it would become extremely difficult for me to carry my stuff around when I move around. So I don't think this option is practical for me. Plus I think it is better to use your battery without caring about its life span and when you feel that battery doesn't last enough to let you work, then buy another one instead of buying a UPS. I think both solutions would cost the same.

I personally think that autosurf advertisement is just a waste of time. I have many reasons to justify my statement. The first and the most important is that nobody is going to read what your site offers. In most autosurf systems, you visit a website to earn credits that can then be used to advertise your website. The same goes for other people who would be visiting your website. So the primary goal is not to look for some information or read something but to earn credits. And to achieve this primary goal of earning credits, the visitor doesn't need to read what you have to offer/. He just needs to keep the page open for a few seconds and thats all. In traditional advertising, there is some interest involved. That is, when a visiotr follows a link to a website, he doesn't have any other interest in the target page (no credits or stuff like that). The title of the link is what interests the visitor and he seeks some information or want to buy some product and that is why he clicks the link. Therefore, in this type of advertisement, the visitor has some sort of interest in the page being visited and there are high chances of results being fruitful for the advertiser. So I would suggest not wasting your time in autosurf programs and try to advertise your website in a more traditional way. If you cannot afford the traditional advertisement, then it is better to spend your time on doing Search Engine Optimization as it is the most effective advertisement you can do.

This is new knowledge for me and I am amazed in rather a bad way because this is too much requirement. just out of curiosity.. what if he wants to run linux on his virtual machines. what would be the requirement then?

This would definitely be better than opening a support ticket as far as user experience is concerned. But I am afraid, that it won't be so easy for the admins and moderators because there would be more people requesting on the forum than those opening a support ticket. -
It might sound a little irrelevant here but @manuleka, I would like to ask one thing from you. What is better method of cooling: Air flowing towards the component or Air flowing away from it.Actually I have witnessed many times on different computers where some fans blow air into the system and others blow out of it. About a couple of years back, when I didn't have my laptop and my only resource was my P4 system, I remember reversing the direction of the fan in the casing. That cpu didn't have any fan right above the heat sink. The only fan was the one at the back which by default blew air out of the system. I reversed the direction and made it blow air into the system. But it didn't change anything significant. I also made an arrangement where I placed two fans into the casing. One of them (the slower one) sucked air into the system and then the other one (the faster one) blew air out of it. But this configuration too hadn't have a significant effect.I guess my experiments on that system had non-significant results because the cpu and the cooling mechanism was not so much dependant on air flow (as it had a huge heat sink with specific desing (different from those that have fans on top of them). But in theory the direction of air flow should have an effect on the cooling system. So my question is which is better for a fan placed right on top of the heat sink of the processor. Air blown into the heat sink or Air blown out of the heat sink.

I had a similar issue with my old p4 system. The configuration of that system is 2.4ghz processor , 512mb ram and on board graphics card. I did suffer slot with my system but I thing was lucky to find the solution instead of burning the CPU. I will advise you to first of all confirm the issue. I did it by going into the bios of the cocomputer and checking the values of different temperature sensors there. It was possible for me to check the temperature in the bios because my CPU stAyed on only for a couple of minutes and then automatically turned off. So it was nit related to graphics or other intensive applications but the basic problem was the salsas yours. So first of all confirm the temperatures of your CPU by installing some utility that shoas sensor readings. After confirmation, as I did in my case, you would need to disassemble your CPU casing and pull out the heat sink. In ny case, the thermal paste had dried up insight a way that it acted as a hurdle between the contact of heat sink and CPU. O I rubbed of the existing thermal paste and applied some fresh one on it. Then when I reassembled the system, it worked fine. The temperatures were still high but nevertheless it didn't automatically shut down on me.

I have been digging deep into wordpress plugin development (at least trying to) so that I can develop some plugins for my website that would enhance its user experience and reduce the maintenance efforts. One of the planned plugins is one that handles some shortcodes for me. Wordpress has provided a rich API for shortcode development and it is quite fun to use. But I am stuck with one issue that I need to resolve. The plan is to create a shortcode which uses a variable as the word. For instance the following code will register a shortcode [home] that will be converted to a link to the home page. add_shortcode('home', 'show_home_link');function show_home_link () {return '<a href="http://http://www.mysite.com/;;} But what i need is that the word "home" be a variable $var. The plan is to check the value of $var agains the post_title entries of the wp_posts table of the wordpress database. And then according to the match found, display appropriate link to that specific page. This would make me able to just say [about] to post a link to about page. or [my first blog post] to post a link to the post with title "my first blog post". I know how to develop the function to check agains database entries and produce corresponding link but what I don't know is how to make the shortcode use a variable entry.

I opened a ticket directly after I saw the email for my account suspension. And now I have received another email that my account has been credited with 6 USD. And that the invoice (including the late fee) hass been paid. I have no complains about the $1 late fee but the way they suspended my account appear terribel to me. I mean, my contribution to the forum was worth 6 USD and instead of crediting the amount to my account, they suspended my service for not paying dues worth $0.76. I am really not happy about this, but since this has now passed and the service is active again, I hope this won't happen in the future. -
Wordpress Plugin Development: Do_Action Vs Add_Action
Ahsaniqbalkmc replied to Ahsaniqbalkmc's topic in Programming
I guess its not like that. I have been reading a book about wordpress plugin development. And from what I have read till now, I am assuming that add_filters is used to add a filter to a hook during execution of the wordpress code. So it is the practical part which has to be used when working with filters. On the other hand, apply_filters is used to create new filters (but I am not sure about it as I don't understand what exctly it does). It has confused me alot and I don't want to go further ahead without properly understanding this basic idea. -

Let me tell you something strange. I have been contributing to the forum from past 5 or 6 days and I haven't got even a single mycent for that. What I have got is that yesterday one of my websites has been suspended for not paying dues worth $0.76 plus $1 late fee. And this has happened even after I opened a support ticket a few days ago mentioning that the mycents script is not working and I have outstanding dues to pay. -
I have started to get into wordpress plugin development. Its just a start and there would be a lot of things that I won't understand and would require some time but there is one thing (in fact two) that I need to discuss specifically, because they appear to be quite important and I don't get them at all.Actually, it is the difference between do_action and add_action and similarly the difference between apply_filters and add_filter. It is quite a basic concept and I think if I go pass it without properly understanding it, I might be in trouble when dealing with complex problems.

I am afraid, I have to disagree. I don't know about your scenarie but in my case, it is not the battery that is making the system hot. In fact I haven't seen a laptop where battery is the primary source of heat. It is the processor (and the GPU) that generates heat. In my case, the vent for the fan which cools the processor is damn near the battery and when I do intensive work on my lappy, the thing throws out very hot air and as a result, the battery also gets hot. Fortunately, the colling pad I am using has an adjustable fan. So what I have done is that I have set it in a place so that the battery is the primary target of its cooling. And believe me it does make a differnce. How can I tell???. Well just by touching the battery when the fan is on and when it is off. THere is a huge difference in the temperature. I think one year is a bit too less for a laptop battery to work properly. And yes they are expensive so its not pocket-friendly to buy them randomly in short periods. I hope manufacturers make better batteries than can last longer. I have heard people talk about a lot of things like when your laptop is turned off, eject the battery and store it separately, OR, make sure that you don't turn off your computer (at night) when the battery is still above 90 % charged. I personally think this stuff is just rubbish. Taking so much care isn't going to make much difference if at all. And how old is your Dell laptop or it's battery? I do believe in the fact that dedicated grpahics does produce extra heat. The reason is that when you go for high quality gaming laptops, you would find that some of them have two fans. One for the CPU and One for the graphics chip. THis clearly states that the GPU does produce its own heat that is in addition to the heat produced by the CPU. But I don't beleive in Nvidia and intel being a mismatch. Yes, there were a few laptop series from dell and hp (I don't know about others) where the Nvidia chips literally burnt to death with extensive usage. The dell was lattitude D630 and the Hp was DV something. THat was quite a famous case and I think nvidia had issued some official apology or something for those chips. But other than that, I don't think there is any differnce in heat produced by nvidia and Ati chips. And for that matter, they both perform almost the same with intel processors. But again, this is my personal opinion and might be far from reality. My current laptop has AMD processor. And as a matter of fact, it does prduce a lot of heat. Much more than its intel couterpart. But I have experienced that it can tolerate higher temperatures as well so there is no performance drop at higher temperatures. THe worst thing with production of more heat is that even though the processor itself might tolerate it, but other components might not be so heat resistive. For instance, batteries are fairly vulnerable in this regard and they do get damaged by extra heating. And this phenomenon is more pronounced in AMD based systems. Well if you are comparing a dedicated graphics chip with integrated CPU graphics, then I think it should be quite obvious that dedicated chip does produce its own heat. And so the total heat produced by a laptop with dedicated graphics will definitely be more than a similar laptop with integrated graphics. However, if you compare two laptops both with dedicated graphics, one with nvidia and other with ati, i think you would hardly notice any difference in the amount of heat produce by the two.

Best Microsoft Word Alternative For Android
Ahsaniqbalkmc replied to Ahsaniqbalkmc's topic in Software
In my opinion, the hard part is formatting, not typing. And luckily, I don't need to format the documents on the android phone as I am used to do this on my website's own editor. I just use microsoft word (or the android alternative) to make plain documents. The reason I use these software instead of the text editor of the wbsite is that they give me more control over spelling and grammatical mistakes plus I can work with them when I am offline.Furthermore, I enjoy typing on my android phone. Probably, it is because the phone is still new to me and the experience is still exciting (and probably it will fade away with time) but as of now, I enjoy doing it. I tested my typing speed on my android phone, and it came out to be about 150 keystrokes a minute. That is about 30 words per minute. This speed is nowhere near the speed on my physical keyboard of the pc (which is about 60 wpm) but still I think it is good enough to be used for large text documents. What is good about it is that there is a lot of room for improvement as I am still new to the interface and yet I have been able to extract a speed of 30 wpm out of my device. And yes, if formatting the text is what someone wants to do, then I am afraid on screen keyboards are not the way to go. Yes, sonyericsson had put some office app (I don't remember the name now) but on my device it is the trial version. So it is of no good use. Fortunately, I have been able to get my hands on a sweet office app called quick office pro. I tried it and it was extremely usable. The glitches I discussed in the first post of the topic: one of them has been fixed by the app. That is automatic capitalization. Moving the cursor aroud is still difficult but I think as I can do without it (if I am unable to find a better application that can handle this as well).Plus, I have been able to use the dictionary feature provided by the android. It makes such a huge difference in the final result because even if you miss a keystroke or you do it incorrect, the dictionary would automatically fix it for you and you don't have to worry about it. But I must say that this is the feature of the android OS and not the App, so this can be used with any other App. -
I got the device from a friend of mine and most likely he doesn't know about it. But the important thing is that the device has still got warranty. If non rooted devices cannot install custom apps then I guess that my device has already been rooted as I am able to install apps outside the android market. I did some research on the topic.after I made the first.post. My research tells me that android is a Unix based.operating system AMD rooting is nothing but gaining root access similar to gaining.root.access on a linux system. And if rooting means gaining the root.access then I don't understand how it is related to installing custom apps as you can install custom apps without the root access.

I am new to android ecosphere and learning (or trying) some new things. the newest thing that cm in front of me is roping of an android device. iI haven't done mugh search on this topic online but by the presence of the term, iI can say that it is quite a popular thing. from some places, iI got he impression that it might be an illegal thing to do but iI have along come to know that it somehow frees your device and let you have more.control over it.there is or thing that iI need to know more than the other about rooting of an android device and that is , will iI be able to claim my warranty If something happens to Tue device during r after the rooting process.help from anyone is appreciated.

best word alternative for android:after getting my first androod phone, i realized that i can use it to make posts on my website on places where normally i cannot carry my laptop. On my laptop, i use microsoft word 2010 for all my wriing needs. it is so complete for my needs that i never really went for an alternative. Now the sad news is that word 2010 might not have been customized for android and to be able to use my handset for creating large posts, i need a good alternative. I am currently using kingsoft office app. it is free to download and is good to usewith some basic functionality but there are few glitches that are driving me nuts.first glitch is that there is no proper selection method and.moving the cursor forward or backwards is just a pain in the ***.second issue is the capitalization thing. holding shift key on a physical keyboard is just an easy thing to do but on a virtual keyboard, it is as troublesome as hell, atleast for me. so capitalizing the first letter of the sentence or an i is very difficult when it is not automatic. There are other minor glitches as well but these are the the major ones and the app would be very usable if these were fixed.so any office app with basic functions plus good selection and cursor movement methods as well as automatic capitalization would be the dream app for me at present time.

My first impression of android and sony ericsson xperia arcA couple of days back, i got my first android phone. It was the awesome and cool sony ericsson xperia arc. This post is more about the android opeeating system rather than the device itself so i wont waste any time on talking about the great and awesome phone and come straight to how i fel bout the android while I am still new to it.The first time i watched the android operating system was in a video review of an android device. In that video, the os looked very interesting, functional, and fun to use. But when i physically got the chance to feel it, the expeience was even better. After using it for aboiut two days now I can say that it is one of the best mobile operating systems im use today, if not THE best. The interface is smooh and fluent and everthing behaves like it were a fluid. Probably the device also has a significant contribution in the behavior of the os but then it is the os which is making good use of he resources of the device. The best thing so far for me is that i have been able to find almost everything for this OS that i tried to look for. i wrote almost becase there were a couple of things that i couldnt find and my searches online qiickly showed that probabaly those dont exisy for the os yet. But i think i was crazy to look for such stuff for a mobile os. actually i was looking for some alternative to apache web server so that i can test small php applications on it. i now realize thay it is crazy at this level to look for such thing but the os made me believe that this thing could also exist.in short, android is the best mobile operating system that i have used till date. (I am writing this on my android phone so @YOrdan, please dont mind tiny mistakes, if there are any.)

Unfortunately, I was also unable to resolve he same issue on my setup. So eventually, I ended up instally wamp on my primary OS (windows 7) and then I shifted all of my work to it. Now all my development is going on in the primary OS.Your case seems different. I was working with virtual machines but you appear to be working with actual machines so you got to resolve this issue. I will be very interested in knowing how you resolve it, as it might help me big time for my future needs.

I think you got it absolutely right @manuleka because this is the logic inside my mind as well. I mean it is better to damage a battery (within limits) than damage your work. If I keep on doing my work, I can buy many batteries but if I prefer the safety of my battery over continuation of my work, I am afraid I won't be able to buy any new battery. But what if I can save both of them, and that is why I started this topic. You mentioned that my laptop should have some auto-shut function of charging the battery once it is full. Well, how would I know whether this exists or not. My laptop is Hp Pavilion DV6 3040us. I guess, this isn't that old model so more likely the laptop would have that function you mentioned but there must be some way of knowing it for sure. You said that laptops come with good power management tools. What exactly are you pointing to? Are you pointing to the tools provided by microsoft windows? If yes then I am afraid they don't have any function to allow the user to stop charging the battery once it is full, but maybe that function is automatic. Please talk more on this @manuleka. From your discussion, the nature of the power failures you have to face seem different than what I am facing. Here nothing is regular. I mean there is no proper schedule (because the primary issue is not the management of grid stations but load shedding). So sometimes there will be no shutting down of electricity for a week but other times you might get electriciy just for 8 hours a day. Plus the timing is also not so much obvious. I mean if today the electicity goes out on 2:00 pm, you cannot say for sure that it would go out on the same time tomorrow. So management, as you mentioned, is not quite practical in my case and I have to be prepared any time. You are right that people in the western countries especially the US will never understand this problem because they don't have to face it. And their answers and never going to be satisfactory as they won't have any practicality in them. You said that some batteries from certain manufacturers might have generic issues. What kind of issues are you talking about. Do you mean that they have inherited property of short life span. If this is the case then I think I should start paying more attention to my battery's behaviour. Plus, what is the logic behind turning off the power for about 20 minutes after every two hours of usage. What would this do? If cooling down the temperature of the battery is what you want to achieve, then I think there are other better ways of doing it which won't require you to rest your laptop after every two hours of use. One good way is a cooling pad with a separate fan for the battery. Plus, it is not very likely that I can adopt the solution. I am quite a bit lazy and I don't like turning my laptop on and off again and again. Often my laptop goes on running for a week before I shut down it, or hibernate it etc. It keeps running all the time. About 12 hours, I am sitting in front of it doing something and the rest of the 12 hours, there is some downloading going on for which I keep it turned on. If this is the case the I think we should just stop worrying about batteries. But again, some people would always want to find a way to extend the life of their batteries irrespective of the whether they would be successful or not.

My Laptop Runs Too Hot All The Time
Ahsaniqbalkmc replied to Ahsaniqbalkmc's topic in Hardware Workshop
Just out of curiosity: How long is my laptop going to last if it keeps running this hot (above 60 degrees Celsius) all the time. From what I have read on numerous places online, I can say that I shouldn't expect more than a couple of years at most. What you folks have to say about it:/
