There definitely seems to be a problem with the iframe alignment and the graphic border. I looked at the site with Firefox, Internet Explorer and Netscape, all of them showed things out of alignment. I like the simple concept of the layout, but with the alignment not working it looks a real mess.

Samma, I think you went overboard with the grunge mate. The text is hard to read and the render is almost invisible. I find it very hard to identify the sig with anything from starwars, it could be for anything. I don't remember Starwars being so dark. 6/10 from me.

I have seen many posts by people saying it is too hard to make enough posts to earn the credits necessary to keep your site running. Not so!I have just earned over 2 credits for just 1 post. With these 2 credits it means now that I am hosted I don't have to post for 2 days if I don't want to. Now you're probably thinking that I wrote a huge post that took ages to write, wrong! The post was only 222 words, (this includes words like "I", "the", "is", "of" and the like), only 18 lines and 5 small paragraphs. The post was in fact smaller in size than this one. I would probably earn another 2 hosting credits for this post too, except that posting in this particular forum does not earn credits. As suggested on the main forum page, it is best to keep your hosting credits above 10 in case for some reason you can't post for a few days. If you know you won't be able to post for a lengthy time, say you're going on vacation, build you credits up to cover you while you're away. That way your account won't be suspended while you're not able to post. Honestly, for level of services offered for free here, it's really not very hard to make at least 1 decent post every 2 days to keep it going. Once you become involved in the community, you'll be earning so many hosting credits that you'll wonder what all the fuss is about.

Website I Made For School for office furniture
Avalon replied to wassie's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I too find the link between the nature theme and the furniture hard to make. Unless perhaps you are trying to say that the furniture starts out as seedling like the one in your background. I cannot understand the language, so you may be saying that in the text. The graphics for the background are too large and take too long load for a dial-up connection. Normally I would not bother waiting for a page like this to load. The fuzzy animation of the furniture seems rather pointless. If you wanted to go with the seedling to furniture idea, why not have a seedling that morphs into a tree and then morphs into your furniture. You are using flash for the animation so it shouldn't be too hard to do.Another pet hate of mine is if I have to scroll sideways to view a site, I use 800 x 600 resolution like a lot of people do and I have to scroll sideways to view your site. Try to make the site self sizing with the use of tables or scripting. As others have said, it doesn't really look like a business site. And lastly, that is one ugly table/chair thing. Practical perhaps, but ugly. Sorry if I sound a little harsh, but you wanted feedback, it can't always be good. -
I'd put a link to Snil's "Real men use pink" sig if I could, but because he uses a sig rotator it's a little difficult. So I should have cropped the render tighter perhaps so it only showed her head and shoulders? I did try that but it looked a bit funny having just the top of the bow showing without it being connected to her hand. I could have removed the bow entirely I guess, but then you wouldn't know she is an archer/hunter. I also tried it with the text smaller in line with Snil's comment, but with the short name it looked out of proportion to me. I guess if I put more in the background it wouldn't have been so noticeable. I totally agree with Snil's comment about the background lacking depth, now that it has been pointed out to me. I didn't want to put too many leaves because then they seemed to loose definition, perhaps adding more leaves with some drop shadowing might have helped? I deliberately tried to minimize the grunge because Becca once said grunge is over done and was looking for something different. This is all good feedback, sometimes I just need a little more information to properly understand. Thanks folks. Here is Snil's "Real men use pink" sig I was talking about. As you can see it has a large 'vacant' space under the text, this is why I am confused when empty space works and when it doesn't. Yes, his has a fancy background, but so does mine in it's own way. (Cool_Freaker likes it!) Anyway, I thought by showing this sig it might explain my confusion rather than you thinking I'm complaining about the feedback. Notice from Becca: MERGED.

Website Main Banner Request WoW clan page
Avalon replied to baphometslayer's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
What size would you like your banner? Are there any size restrictions? Do you want animation? If you want animation, do want it as an animated gif or as a flash animation? And for someone not familar with clans like myself, what is a "Horde Guild"? Notice from jlhaslip: Request datedTopic closed -
Can you please elaborate on what you mean here. The render is too small but I need to make the height smaller? I confused. You say there are empty spaces on the sig, I am looking at your "Real men use pink" sig and from what I can see there is a large empty space under the text, (empty except the background of course). Mine is showing a lot of background around the text too. What exactly do you mean by "empty space"? Just trying to understand.

To continue with my gift sigs, here's one for Becca. In keeping with the render, I tried to get a 'woodsy' feel. As usual, all comments are appreciated... how else am I going to learn?
-
Here's another gift sig, this time it's for Johnny. I tried to work on getting the render nicely blended and used a heavier border than normal to try and emphasize the strength of the render character. Let me now what you think.

As I need practice with making sigs, I thought I might make a few gift sigs for those that help keep this forum running. Here's the first gift sig for BuffaloHELP. All comments appreciated. (still learning ya know!)

For your first flash site this is pretty good. Here are my suggestions... Loose the animation in the blog, it's just plain annoying. Maybe you like the shoes, but it seems out of place. Change the background of the page to a color other than white, there is too much white space and it makes the site look bare. The intro animation goes for too long. When the word ORIENTAL spells out, the letters move, looks amaturish. Personally I would also remove the music, it's not really needed and doesn't seem to go with the animation. 7/10 from me. As a closing comment, if this site is to advertise flash web sites and templates, you will need to have something a lot better than this. You need to demonstrate that you can make a kick *bottom* web site or template so people will want to use your service. I don't think this site does it. This is what you have to compete with... http://www.balthaser.com/

Sig Of The Week #7 The Hardest Challange yet
Avalon replied to Saint_Michael's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
Here's my entry, getting better all the time. (I hope) -
Can I have some clarification on the rules regarding the renders to be used please? Does it have to be: A: One from Halo AND one from Splinter Cell? B: Two from Halo OR two from Splinter Cell? If the answer is B, do the renders have to be of the same character? I'm sorry, but the rules seem to contradict themselves so I'm confused.

Saint Michael, here is a gift a sig in return for the 2 you made for me. I have been trying out different brushes, I hope you like it.

Moving Ads With Css Layout On Free Hosting CSS help
Avalon replied to dbforum's topic in Programming
It sounds like you want to remove a banner that is enforced on your site by a free web host. Here's some things to think about and reasons why you shouldn't try to disable the banners. Why are you using a free web host that enforces advertising banners? You are at Xisto, banners are not enforced here, only forum posting which you seem to be able to do. Although, your post content could be improved, it is somewhat brief. Disabling a banner on a site provided by a free web host where they enforce banners is more than likely an act that will see your account cancelled, is this what you want? Free web hosts depend on advertising to cover the costs of providing the service, if they permit their users to disable the advertising, they will have nothing to covers the costs of providing the service and the service will no longer be provided. It's that simple. Even though Xisto does not enforce advertising banners on the free sites they provide, they do enforce posting on their forums to keep your account active. It is in the forums where Xisto have advertising that covers the costs of providing the free hosting. By enforcing posting in the forums, they ensure the banners are being viewed. So my advice is, if you want to remove enforced banners from your web site, move your site to a free host provider that does not enforce them on your site, such as Xisto. -
Here's a few other sites that I have found useful for learning PHP. http://www.phpfreaks.com/ http://www.free2code.net/tutorials/browse http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Good luck.

Not really my taste in sigs, but hey, everyone has different tastes. I think they need a border to define them a little better, that way they will stand out no matter what the color of the page they are on.

Great work samma, my only complaint is the blurriness of the main text. 9/10I have often wondered about the fascination with brushes here, as samma has shown you can do some amazing stuff with filters too. I have only just started using brushes with PS, I used to use PSP and a wide range of filters and either I'm not that good with brushes yet or filters are just as good. If you want to experiment with filters, I'd recommend the 'Kai's Power Tools (KPT)', 'Xenofex', 'BladePro' and 'Eye Candy' packages. With the various versions of those packages you can do almost anything.

Well, I don't know if it's in the same league as some of the entries here, but I thought I'd give it a go just the same. I finally found some brushes I can use, all need now is to get some practice with them. Still learning how to use PS as well, being a former avid PSP user. I guess the more I make, I better I should get, well that's the theory anyway. (I think Evil Homer missed something in the rules for this SOTW)

Panda Render as seen by saint-michael
Avalon replied to Saint_Michael's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
Like you said Mike, it is a little choppy in places. It looks like the original image has been enlarged because its all a little blurry. Having said that, the sig you made with it seems to remove all those problems or a least make them unnoticable. Excellent work! -
My First Popout Sig hopefully it works
Avalon replied to Avalon's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
Actually I didn't use brushes for the background, that is a combination of a couple of filters. I have been looking for brushes but I keep getting messages saying they are not compatible with my version of Photoshop (v 7.0.1). The reason I am using that version is because my computer is an old PII 350 with only 128Mb of RAM. It struggles running WinXP so I'm running Win98 and I think this is the last version of PS that is compatible with Win98.What I was trying to do with the font was to choose a 'strong' looking font like the ironman render and applied the 3D effect to make it appear to 'pop out' like the render. Ah well, I guess these things need some experimentation to find out if they work or not.sama made a comment about the background being too monotone, I am confused about that. I have seen many sigs that have monotone backgrounds, why does it work with some renders and not others? I thought the render itself had enough color for this not be a problem, and besides, shouldn't the focus should be the render and text, not the background? Obviously I'm still learning. -
Here's my first attempt at a popout sig, hopefully I listened to the masters and got it right.
-
Ther pixel text is very hard to read, I had to look at it a few times to figure out that you had in fact spelt 'cemetery' right, the 'e' letters look almost like 'i' letters. Either the font needs to be bigger or a different font. Also the pixel font is a little too far to the right, it is partialy covered by the render. The text for your name is good but could be a little bigger have more contrast to the background so it stands out more.I don't know if the markings in the background are supposed to mean anything, but they look abstract to me and distract from me the render and text. The bright horizontal and vertical lines look like guide lines of some sort that look like they shouldn't be there. The horizontal line goes over the render's hand but under the head, doesn't look right either.6/10 from me, I've seen much better sigs from you.

Here's another render just for the heck of it. enjoy!
