  1. I thought that would be what some people would think, you didn't disappoint me. I guess it depends if wassie wants to be a "ladies man" and "get loads of girls" or not. If he wants a relationship that only lasts a short while then not much effort is required, but if he wants something a bit longer term, then some more effort is required. Let me tell you, being married is just like one long date, if you want it to work then you have to work at it. Everyone has their own opinion and it's up to wassie as to which advice he chooses to follow.
  2. Sorry for going off topic a little here, but why did you make a new account? I thought you could reapply for hosting under the same account name if you fixed the reason you didn't get hosting in the first place. e.g. poor quality posts. Perhaps an admin can provide better advice about this?
  3. Ok, here's some words of advice from an old married man. You might think because I haven't been in the dating scene for a long time that I don't know what I'm talking about. Think about this though, I have been happily married for over 20 years, this means I got it right at the start and I am still doing it right. ;)If you want to have a relationship with this girl, do not ignore her. Send her some flowers with a small note of apology for trying rush her into the relationship, make sure your put on the card to ask her to call you when she wants to talk. Notice I said talk, not SMS, talking is much better in this instance as it's more personal. Nearly all girls love to be given flowers, it makes them feel special and from what you have said you think she is special. Flowers are the perfect way to show her that you think she is special. It doesn't have to be a big showy flower arrangement, in fact, if it is too big she might see it as pushy. A small bunch of roses, say no more than 12, usually works well.Do not deliver the flowers personally, that could put her in an awkward position where she think she needs to respond immediately to your show of affection, use a delivery service. This way she can think about her response and will not feel pressured, it seems you have already had a bad response to putting her under pressure about the relationship by telling her you love her. I do hope that hasn't pushed her away completely.A good relationship takes time to build and work to keep it going. Don't be impatient and be prepared to put some work in to keep it going. By work I mean, take her out to dinner or buy her flowers for no reason. Take an interest in what she has to say, let her do most of the talking, most people like to talk about themselves and their experiences. Ask her about her work, family and what she like to do in her free time. But be genuine in your interest in what she has to say.I hope it all works out for you, nobody likes to see an unhappy wassie
  4. I have a simple question. If the main thrust of xhtml is to promote cross browser functionality, does xhtml display correctly on all the current browsers available today? As I have mentioned in another thread, using CSS for formatting as I understand is required with xhtml, but even CSS has different attributes for different browsers. Does this mean CSS will also be changed to a "standard" so it displays the same on all browsers?Xhtml and CSS might be the "in thing" at the moment, but even they have cross browser problems.
  5. I am still yet to be convinced about xhtml, I understand it is recommended by W3C, but with the differences in how browsers read code, there does not appear to be a standard. I know the idea is for xhtml to be a standard for all browsers to follow, but given the number of different browsers out there, I can't see that happening soon. So aside from trying to enforce a code standard, are there any other benefits of xhtml?Personally, I prefer html because already I try to structure my code in a logical format similar to xhtml, purely because I find it easier to read and work with. I also use CSS wherever possible because it gives more flexibility. But even there, different browsers will allow different attributes so there is no standard there either. While it would be really good if all browsers displayed the same code in the fashion so we don't have to worry about the tags and attributes we use, but I can't see that happening in a hurry.
  6. It used to be possible to do this with a lot of servers but I think it has mostly been stopped. I think the main reason being is that it uses a lot of bandwidth and seriously slows the internet connections for other users of the server. I had a couple of servers I used to do it with but it is no longer permitted. The program I used for it was called FlashFXP, I think "FXP" is the term used for transferring from one server to another. Flash FXP allows you to connect to 2 different servers at once and you can drag and drop files from one server window to another. Needless to say the transfer rate was very quick. Just to a Google search for "FlashFXP" to find where you can download it from.Hope that helps.
  7. We use a script to rotate our sigs. Search the forums for the term "sig rotator" to find out how.
  8. Same problem here, the reason is quite simple, the image has been resized via html code. The actual size of the image is 765 x 80, yet it is being displayed at 912 x 95 on the site due to the <img> tag used. I assume all the affiliate buttons are not going to stay where they are, it looks over the top as it is. I think an affiliates page is needed.
  9. Unfortunately problems with my internet stopped me from entering this SOTW. Looking at the standard of the entries, the one I was working on would have fallen well short. My vote goes to Mayank. Nice render blending and it has a nice traditional feel to it, call me old fashioned but I like it. ;)S_M: 0Truefusion: 0Mayank: 1FtK_Shadow: 0
  10. Hmmm.... FtK Shadow and truefusion appear to have used the same render with very different results, curious.
  11. I made the sig here first, but with no response from H3arts_4nxi3ty I figured they didn't like/want it. There is abstract in the sig, but it is mostly grunge as I said when I posted it.
  12. Actually, I was thinking along the lines of giving credits to the winner too. I was also thinking that 5 credits was a good amount... spooky. Even I could afford to donate 5 credits to the winner, it's only one decent post after all. (Despite what some people say about how hard it is to earn credits.) I think more people would contribute and encourage their friends to vote. I don't think it will need to be on the main page, once people learn that they could win credits they'll be coming in droves.
  13. Thanks folks. With only 4 entries and only 4 votes in total it's a little disappointing though. What can we do to generate more interest in the SOTW competitions?
  14. I thought I had this one too, until I saw Truefusion's entry. The render and background are awesome, it gets my vote. Can't say I like the text however, it's just too hard too read, maybe if it was a little bigger perhaps.S_M:0Dawiss:1Avalon:0Frozen:0Mayank:0Truefusion:3
  15. We all have lives to attend to. Myself, I am married, have 3 teenage children and have a full time job that takes me from my home 12 hours a day. It depends I guess how much value you put on your hosting account. 30 minutes a week to keep my hosting account active sounds like a good deal to me.
  16. Nice tutorial, simple and easy to follow. One very important thing to remember... do NOT change your oil while your engine is hot. In the process of changing your oil you will most likely spill some oil on yourself. If the engine is hot so will be the oil and you will suffer serious burns. Here's a couple of tips if you're going to replace your oil filter when you replace your oil.The oil filter usually has a rubber seal where it screws up against the engine. Smear some oil on this seal before screwing the filter on the engine, this will help it seal and lessen the chance of oil leaking from the oil filter.DO NOT overtighten the oil filter, usually all you need is one quarter turn after the filter has made contact with the engine. Overtightened oil filters are another common cause of oil leaks.
  17. It looks like they are sitting in a sandbox, feet buried in the sand and all. Was that the intended effect? Not sure about the scan lines over their feet, looks out of place. Overall the effect is quite clever though.
  18. Save 2 versions, one PSD so you can edit it later and either JPG, PNG or GIF to post to the web. The format you use depends on the type of sig. The basic rule of thumb I use is:GIF for animated sigsJPG for static sigsPNG for 'popout' sigs or sigs with transparent areas such as irregular bordersYou can also use PNG for static sigs but generally they are a larger file size than JPG.
  19. Nothing wrong with it, it's just that this one closes first. Be patient.
  20. Why couldn't you move the text once you had closed Photoshop? Didn't you save a PSD file of your sig? You should always have a PSD file of your sig so you can edit things later.
  21. Well, the fact you dropped below 0 is something you could have easily avoided by following the advice shown on the main page. Besides, another post like this and you would probably be back on track, is it really worth worrying about?
  22. I think this sig is pretty good actually, just a few little things let it down. The background is great, so is the choice of render and text. The minor things that let it down are: The render and text are off center on the background and it looks out of balance. Crop a little off the background on the left hand side. Remove the scan lines on the render, this never seems to work. Either remove the scan lines on the text or perhaps use a drop shadow. The text needs something to define it from the background more. Move the word 'war' towards the bottom of the sig so the space below it is about the same as the space above the word 'spy'. Just a little more blending on the render, particularly the lower part of it. The pixel text used for your name is almost unreadable, try a different font. Like I said, these are only minor things that are easily fixed. 7/10 from me.
  23. The way I read this is you want someone to do all the work in setting up your business. What does this person or person get in return? Assuming of course you intend to make an income of some sort from the site. People will want to know what they can expect in return for doing work that you will profit from.
  24. Here's my entry, grunge overload perhaps? Good luck folks.
