What Is The Best Way To Avoid Spams In Your Website?
TomCol replied to web_designer's topic in Websites and Web Designing
IP bans work to an extent but a determined spammer can easily use a proxy, or just use different computers at school. Have you considered using a members system to comment? That way you can validate using emails and it has a number of benefits:- You can allow only one account per IP- You only allow only one account per email- Even if you hash the passwords, you can still check for identical hashes, and identify alternate accounts. Also, what are the spammers saying? If you can, you might want to put a profanity filter and something to detect random or repeated letters.Good luck with it. -
Why Are Most Popular Webcomics So Terrible?
TomCol replied to DodgyPhil's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I have never been a great comic fan, when I was younger I occasionally read paper comics like the Beano, but I don't recall ever buying one with my own money. When reading web comics, you have to remember why they might not be as good as their paper counter parts:1. They're free. If the creator isn't going to get loads of money from making them, what is their incentive to putting a lot of time and effort in to making it?2. Generally only one or two people make them and they can be made on a tight schedule. You can't expect anything too fancy if you want a new one everyday. As the saying goes: "You can't have your cake and eat it".The two factors are going to make the standard much poorer than something you can buy, and the creators might try other techniques to make it more interesting. Such as...Sexual humour is one of the worst forms or dialogue in any comic. Just as DodgyPhil said, it isn't actually funny, but cringe-worthy and just degrades the whole standard even further.I think that web comics will become more popular and the creators will put more thought into making them. Perhaps when that happens I'll start reading them. -
I don't have much of an interest in football. I occasionally play 5-a-side (gosh, that is violent!) but I never watch it on TV or go to matches. If I were to vote for any team, it would be England, but only because I live there.

Any Horrible Real Life Incidents Friends If please share it.
TomCol replied to contactskn's topic in General Discussion
I have never seen a ghost, but I don't not believe that they don't exist. Some people in my family claim to have seen them and I don't think they would lie about it.The thing that annoys me is if ghosts do exist, why don't we see them more often? Until I see one for myself I won't know whether they exist or not, as you can't prove a negative.I think it would be quite cool to see a ghost, just as cool as a speaking dog or meeting an alien (but I really do doubt that those things will happen), and if ghosts do exist, I suppose we all have a chance of seeing one. -
Doubt About Placing Videos On Website
TomCol replied to The Simpleton's topic in Web Hosting Support
On another note, you might want to try using HTML5s <video> tag to play the video. It won't work on Internet Explorer yet so you'll have to have a flash embed as a backup. If you're good with JavaScript, you might even want to try making a custom interface to go with the <video> tag, so that it can suit the theme of your site. I've found a few links that you might want to look at: http://diveintohtml5.info/video.html http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://www.craftymind.com/ -
Version 4.1.249.1064 supports it. It's in Options > Under the Bonnet > Content Settings... > JavaScript, but you have to reload the page to activate it.

I'll post my brief history of browsers: I originally used IE; it was the only one I had heard of and I didn't even know there were others. I used it for a long time until I saw my friend had Firefox, I decided to give it a go and stuck with it for a few months. Firefox was good but could be slow on my PC, but seeing as I didn't know about the other browsers, I kept it until around April Fool's day. Google had released a special version of Chrome that rendered the webpage with support for anaglyph red/blue glasses. I didn't have any glasses though so it just gathered dust on my desktop. When I got my glasses I quickly opened Chrome, only to find itself updating, and obliterating the 3D feature for ever . After surfing with it for a wild though I found how easy and quick it was, and I loved the interface. The new features in Chrome, like themes (I have the 'Avatar' one) and extensions just make a good browser great, so I have no excuse not to use it when I'm on a PC. When I'm on my DSi, I have to use the Opera browser. It slow but then that's expected, so it's not too bad for a games console. I don't know how it compares to other console browsers and it's the only DSi browser so I can't do speed comparisons. I still like the touch screen support which makes it easier to use than a PC browser! And the fact that it's on DS means it can be taken anywhere. Thanks for reading all of this, hope you liked it

mrdee, when I opened a ticket it got replied to within a few hours. Don't worry about it as I'm sure that your problem will be fixed. Remember that the staff probably have a lot of tasks to do so replying straight away might not be their biggest priority. Also, getting angry won't help, instead why don't you help others on this site my replying to their topics?

This is quite a hard thing to do because the frequency of the voice has to be identified and removed with out affecting the background music. Sometimes the software you use thinks the actual music is voice as well and you end up with no sound. If you want to give it a go, you can try programs like Audacity or Music Morpher. I don't know how well they work but it might be enough for you.Good luck!

The Nintendo DSi is the successor of the DS console. It doesn't play Game Boy games but instead lets you download games (DSiWare) from the online store.I got my DSi on 3rd of April 2009, I'm glad I bought it because it is so much better than the DS Lite which I previously owned. I particularly like the free Opera browser that can be downloaded; I spend a lot of time going on the DS compatible sites (of which one was made my me). I also own a few DSiWare titles which are good to pass the time when you are bored. If you are considering buying one, I would recommend it if you have the money because it is such a great console.

The Logic plan for Linux says that it has upgradeable disk space from 1GB and 10GB respectively. Please could you tell me what I can upgrade them to and for how much? Thanks

I think I just prefer Nike, I see more of their trainers and they have some good ideas with them like the iPod link. Personally though, I look at the product not the company so I could choose either.

Real instruments are probably more practical, they can be used without electricity and are less likely to break. However, instruments like laser harps are amazing technical innovations that are much more interesting than traditional instruments, so I would prefer to have a virtual one.

I don't own an MP3 player, but I think the iTouch is the best. It looks great, is easy to use and the apps are so cool!

Stiches Marks on my palm hand Make My Scar Disappear.. Any Suggestions?
TomCol replied to iGuest's topic in Health & Fitness
Using the oils will clear the marks up to some extent but if you want an effective, quick solution, I would recommend seeing your local doctor to look for some alternatives. Remember to be patient, some treatments could take a few weeks to work, so bear with it and keep trying. Good luck -
Wi-fi Will it match the wired LAN some day ?
TomCol replied to longtimeago's topic in Computer Networks
Perhaps going off the point a little, but wireless 4G is supposed to have speeds in the Gigabit range! Of course they are being developed but it will be interesting to see the outcome. -
If you didn't know, Google Earth has a flight simulator that lets you fly all around the world. It's only really there for a bit of fun but it can be quite exciting when you fly with 3D buildings on and it's a great time waster in those boring lunchtimes If you have ever piloted a plane, please post on how realistic you think it is, if not then just say what you think of it!
