sparx 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2006 A new feature (and this time I've checked to make sure it's new) has been debuted on the GMail service. A separate DELETE button has been added to the button bar resulting in the user's saving one click while intending to delete messages / conversations. Ordinarily, the option to delete was hidden away in the Action drop-down box resulting in an extra click. Knowledgeable Firefox users have for quite some time taken advantage of the GreaseMonkey extension coupled with the correct script to customize their displays and add this functionality. Shadow X 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2006 separate DELETE button has been added to the button bar resulting in the user's saving one click while intending to delete messages / conversations.I'm really happy that Gmail finally did something like this. I remember before, you had to click three things just to place something in the Trash ... and then you have to delete it separatly from the trash again! Also, this button will possibly make Gmail more popular and easier to use in the future. This is because all the other big names such as Yahoo and Hotmail already have this delete button, but what they don't have is over 2GBs of storage! With this new feature and the increasing storage for Gmail users, i'm sure that more people will join up.Knowledgeable Firefox users have for quite some time taken advantage of the GreaseMonkey extension coupled with the correct script to customize their displays and add this functionality. What do mean by this exactly sparx? Does this Firefox extension allow Gmail users to customize their Gmail accounts? So now that the delete button has come out, what can this extension do now? Sorry, I don't really understand. If you join up on this topic, you can talk about Gmail in depth! Thanks again for this because now maybe more Xisto users will use Gmail now.
sparx 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2006 Greasemonkey is a Firefox extension which lets you to add bits of DHTML ("user scripts") to any web page to change its behavior. In much the same way that user CSS lets you take control of a web page's style, user scripts let you easily control any aspect of a web page's design or interaction. For example, you could:Make sure that all URLs displayed in the browser are clickable links Improve the usability of a site you frequent Route around common and annoying website bugs Like I said in my earler post, the Gresemonkey extension allows the user to change what is displayed in the browser. This extended functionality can range from adding/removing buttons, changing font sizes and font types to changing background colours and adding helpful links etc.Have a look at the wide variety of scripts that are available for GMail alone and you'll have a brief idea of how powerful and customizable an interface a user can get when s/he uses the appropriate script.Shadow: Take a look at the other scripts and you'll see for yourself. Himanshu1405241508 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2006 hi,This is a nice change from looking for the delete/move to trash option in the drop down list. At the the most used options should be easily accessible. I love Gmail and the changes and fine tuning is improving the gmail experienceCheers,Himanshu
abhiram 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2006 Ah ... good to know there's another feature now on gmail. Initially, when I started using gmail, I was a bit wary about it. But, as they kept improving it and adding more and more features, it's now my main account .

saxsux 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 I heard about that. It's just that it might be stored in thier backups or something... just another overblown story from some loser who has nothing better than to think up pathetic criticisms for a perfectly good email service. I really don't understand these people who keep trying to tarnish Gmail with the utter rubbish accusations.Anyhoo... Google haven'y only added a Delete button, there's also a new "Web Clips" box that appears above all Gmail pages, that you can customise by adding your own RSS feeds. It's really cool. But, it's only available in the US English version of Gmail, so I'm stuck with a dilema - do I switch to US English and put up with wierd spelling, so I can get a delete button and Web Clips thingy, or stay with good ol' British English and patiently wait for Google to add these features to the British English version?Hmmmm.... Quatrux 4 Report post Posted January 26, 2006 This sounds great, I read a lot of topics that people want to have a delete button in their gmail account, but in my opinion of course it does not get deleted, it just is moved somewhere else. I think google is against deletion of content from their servers and that is even better.Anyway I was always using POP3 with an email client and it deleted the new got mail and I never needed a delete button in the webmail, but for people who are frequently using webmail it is good, as somewhere it was said, google is listening to their users.Seeing new features at gmail just makes me more happy, at last an email service which is really great, I use it for most of my stuff, but not for personal emails, I use my isp's server for personal email with ssl, I just feel more secure, which also make me more happy. Jeigh1405241495 0 Report post Posted January 26, 2006 I think it'll make people who wanted it happy, and keep many people worried about them keeping emails forever satisfied since they'll assume this new delete button means they will DELETE the email. In reality it's just a more convenient feature, so no omplaints, but I'm sure they realize it'll get at least a few people off the trail of the eternally stored emails. saxsux 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2006 Does this new Delete button delete the conversation straight away (like the Delete Forver button in Spam) or move it to the Deleted Items (like clicking More Actions>Move to Deleted Items)?I think I'm gonna stick with English UK and wait for Google to introduce these new features into other languages - I've got a slight hatred of American spelling. minnieadkins 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2006 I just saw this on my gmail account the other day. Somewhere at the top they had a "new feature" or "what's new" or something like that. I clicked it and. KAPLOOEY. The delete button. True that we prob don't need it, but I hardly ever give my gmail out, still it's loaded with spam. So sad. I have like 3 or 4 emails that have been converted to spam-mail accounts. Poor gmail prob has like 20 gigs of spam from all their users. Ah well, it works for me. Good addition with the delete. saxsux 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2006 Why do you need to register so many accounts? You know you can just use youraddress+whatever@gmail.com and set up a filter to automatically delete it!
