Well isn't that's what the site's all about? To encourage Belgium users to use the .be domain? If the website is written in English that site's gonna go down really fast because .be is a really simple domain name. Would love to have it. Though how are you supposed to trust these people?

Belgian Language! Good one! ;) Lol, fellow you should learn something about Belgium.. it is a three-language country. The official three languages are German, but is only for a small part of Belgium (where I come from); French (with a few differences, they speak it in the so-called Wallonie) and Flemish (pretty much like Dutch, they speak it in so-called Flandern). The website is in Flemish and sadly this is the language I'm worst at. But as far as I understand it, you have to supply your contact information and the domain is only free the first year afterwards they'll contact you and want you to sign a contract. I might be wrong, Flemish really is not my strongest side, but I suppose that's the way it is (anything else would be too good too ^^).I haven't tried signing up, but it seems as if they will give you the domain if you don't supply real information anyway (says something about "in 5 minutes" and how are they going to verify an address in that time). I also think you need a Belgian phone number/address.. Hehe I got one :P Good luck you folks!

Well that sums it up then i guess you have to be living in belgium to get the .be free because im sure without the requirements of a belgium address and telephone number it wont be granted.

you should rather translate the terms and conditions, because it is always nice to know what you sign up for. I'm not a crack at Flemish, but:Door het versturen van dit formulier, verklaart u zich conform met onze algemene voorwaarden.sounds a lot like "by using this form you agree to the terms and conditions".and well you can't agree until you understand right?

because I understand a little and I think it is only free for a year and I don't know what kind of contract I'm entering by signing up there. I don't know about you, but I don't want my domain to disappear to nothing after one year, when everyone is used to it (and me ending up with thousands of advertising brochures in Flemish..)

Bummer. It's only free for a year, your right. I got a translation. It's not amazing, but you get the basic jist of it - http://www.worldlingo.com/S9M7KdqhsbwZzboItAX4r/translate From that translation, you can read the Terms and Conditions too, so you know what you're signing up for, if you choose to. This doesn't really appeal to me, seeing as I'm not from Belgium, and am perfectly happy with my .org.uk address. And, it's only about £5 for every two years!

Whoops!

Sorry, the translation link doesn't work. I'm not used to Wordlingo, I only used them because Google doesn't translate Dutch. Anyway, to get the translation, go to http://www.worldlingo.com/en/websites/url_translator.html

Type in the web address (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/) and set it to Dutch to English.

I know it's a bit off topic, but why the three different languages? And why do they have different names, when they're all the same language? Is there a massive historical reason behind it?

Ok ... I've finally got the approval (thanks warbird ;)).Now, how do I set it up so that it points to abhiram.astahost.com? I want to be able to use it as a regular domain ... so that 'abhiram.be/something' will take me to that particular folder instead of redirecting. There is a bunch of stuff with type as 'SOA', 'NS', 'MX' and 'A'. Which one do I change to be able to use this domain?

@abhiram: I'm wondering, is it working well? Did they message you about the limitations and such?@saxsux: There are quite some multi-language countries in Europe, Switzerland is French/German/Italian for example.I only know the historical reason for the German part of Belgium: After World War 2, Belgium got a little part of Germany as "compensation" for being rolled over, I guess ^^ But I think on the border there people spoke German already, because the German city in that corner (Aachen) was quite important some time ago, so I guess you had to know German.Belgium is a small country and it was ruled by foreigner often (Habsburger, Austria), so I suppose this is the reason.. Since this is really off-topic I won't write that much, you can read the Wikipedia article on it or something.
