where did you learn html from?

Recommended Posts

Well, first I started learning on my own. Then I took a coputer class at school (callled Computer Applications II) where I learned some basic html. We made webpages using html and it was actually fun, even though my website in the end turned out rather sucky. ~Puppy :(

i first learn about html when my cousin had a website and I just got my computer with the "speeding" 56k modem. yeh it was real fast.....not!.........anyways I used some of her snippets and worked with it using CUTEHTML and Cuteftp. I started using Geocities. then used Tripod but i hated using Tripod. Now i'm all past that. I work with CUTEFTP pro now and some on notepad. Probably almost every one started out looking up someones source code and using some of the html. well now i don't need to do that because I know how to do those things.

I made my first webpage around 97-98 with Frontpage when I went to one of those online html checker places (Bobby?... something like that.) the code was full of errors. So I went to webmonkey.com and learned the basics. After that, I would just pick up ideas from surfing around and finding nice pages and looking at the code. That's how I learned css, I noticed a bunch of .css files in my temporary internet files and I started to collect them, mess around with them and work them into my pages.

Best thing to do with learning html find free html editor or if your really cheap get kazaa and find the paying editor for freealso go to web sites and open a note pad to take a look at thier source code and look hows its done recommend website that don't have a .com .net .mil because most of the scripts is server scrips like sql asp and all that great stuff.http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ to go to know terms and all that good stufffor me it was self taught i started with simple pages then to frames then back to simple pages with more complex scripting involved.or just look it up on the net its that simple

I pretty much taught myself everything I know through trial and error. I also love to look at source codes for other sites and see what new scripting methods I can find in them. I've never really been able to follow a tutorial very well. It's just way to tedious for me... I learn more with hands-on experiance than I do reading about something.

As for good referance sites. I think the best, as of yet, would have to be w3 School.

http://www.howstuffworks.com/ - I started here and then noticed its inferiority and realized I wanted to learn more.http://www.lissaexplains.com/ - The site explained everything so easily, and I learned all about the basics right here.http://www.w3schools.com/ - I learned the rest from here and gained an extreme liking to CSS. However, this site just gives you stuff but doesn't really tell you much on what you can really do.http://simplebits.com/ - After using Blogger for a while, I noticed that one of the templates was made by this dude. I noticed his site and his CSS and learned a bit.http://alistapart.com/ - This site talks so much about layouts and web design that I can't resist reading it every once in a while.http://www.csszengarden.com/ - I learned some nice CSS techniques here.http://www.htmldog.com/ - I reviewed stuff I already knew here.
