yea, actually, sorry to say that i have to agree that the flash page wasn't the wisest idea for many reasons. i actually really like it. it loads in about 5-10 seconds for me. even though it loads fast enough, i have ALWAYS been turned off by flash sites. if i have to wait more than 5 seconds, i'm clicking the X to get outta there. the only way i would stay is if it were a high priority site or a site that may have been recomended to me.i have always been against flash sites as a user perspective and a webmaster perspective. the cons always outweigh the pros 90% of the time. the load time was the first thing i noticed but since i was concentrating on reviewing it as a whole, i wasn't even paying attention to the annoying obvious. although most people here in the states have high speed, i think in lower economic countries, a lot of people are still on dialup and if i had to wait even a second longer than 10 seconds, i would leave and never regret not coming back. so this really has to be a consideration here.now....let's say opaque knew about load times and is willing to take that risk. let's compare the most successful websites. let's say the top 1000. now let's look at those 1000 sites and see how many are in flash. fact is, there are very few successful flash sites and there is a REASON for that. that's why if it's not a high priority site, it's not going to be attractive. Xisto is for the knowledge gained when coming to the site. nobody wants to wait and watch a dial go from 1%-100% to get information. BUT! the main domain is where the flash is. it's not in the forums. i go to the forums directly and bypass the main domain and the flash since the forums are the only thing that interest me right now. so i am thinking. is the main site targeted to new users only? i am still curious what is to become of Xisto here.....

Rightly said Anwii. Look at the web now, sites like Youtube are in top 100. There was a time where we worried about download but I see the traffic logs and a large population of new users have broadband connections.So, I felt its ok to make a RICH experience for first time visitors so that we give a good first impression. The theme and ambience of the site has been made purely to convey the simple message of collaboration

Nope, I totally dislike this new name Xisto .com . The name sounds so weired. Why why this new name ?? Did some astrologer told to change the name of the forum so that it is gonna flourish ? or why ? When ever i used to tell my friends about this forum it sounded soo good, "Hey pal c'mon there is a forum by name trap 17 check it out" The word sutra in india is the postfix word for some thing else , which deals with adult content ( ****sutra) Just google this phrase and see " ****sutra" . So now that I dont feel like saying to my friend that i am a member of the forum by name "Xisto"This forum has the pride of saying NO to adult contents ! But the forum name itself sounds like some adult contented forum.Moreover many firewalls might block this name "sutra" !! and after you check that phrase in Google you might know. So Roll back !! Roll back to Xisto !! I Strongly feel that this might be a move because of some astrologer !! Because in India that happens, Change the name and the business will flourish says some astrologer.

The sutra part I have very little doubt is an advertising ploy.I like it, but not this theme. The IPB theme is really whack. At first glace it's not bad but when you look into the overall functionality you begin to see the problems with it.

I agree with that, i am now far less likely to tell my friends about Xisto than Xisto. About a week ago i told a friend who was looking for hosting about Xisto but with the new name i am far less likely going to want to explain the "sutra" stigma that comes with it. Not to mention the work risk factor to allow anyone to see i am browsing a site from work in lunchtime with the word "sutra" in it cause the likelihood that a co worker will assume i am surfing an adult content site is not a risk i am willing to take. So i won't visit from work as often as i used to.

i absolutely hate ignorance and people who are downplaying the name "sutra" sutra is one word. not two. sutra is nothing bad OR sexual. with the word "knowledge" in front of it, it's a two word phrase. people don't want to recomend the same form because they dislike the name? that is just ridiculous. if you can't recomend it or stand by it, why are these people still here posting for mycents? talk about hypocritical

 

i suggest you do your research and actually ffind out what "sutra" means and read what opaque defined "Xisto" as. adult content? it's the word KAMA that is sexual in nature. not sutra. sutra has a totally different definition and with the word knowledge before it, adds to the direct meaning behind this forum.

 

so all i did was enter "define:sutra" in to google. HERE ARE THE DEFINITIONS.

 

i am getting so tired of the ignorance expressed by people who don't take time out to do their own research to know what a friggin word means or the truth behind other things before they open their mouths and look really stupid....but at the same time bad mouth people or things because of their own ignorance

 

so after researching and even reading this post to gain something out of "Xisto", you can either stand behind it and continue earning mycents and support what the forum stands for and why Xisto was chosen, or leave.....if your so ashamed to even tell people about this forum, i wouldn't expect those people to stick around and continue talking ignorance......because ........well........it's sooooooooo BAD just being here!

 

now aside from that, i liked the name Xisto. i like the name Xisto. would i have chosen either? no. but this is not a democracy. opaque made this forum successful and if it wasn't for the success of this forum, many people would have had to go elsewhere for hosting....and believe be, the free hosting they would have found would have been a *BLEEP* hole compared to trap and Xisto - Web Hosting.

This is internet and this stuff happens with all of us, none of us are exception. So nobody will research as people spend 5-10 seconds figuring stuff out on internet and after that unless they're attracted in something they hardly care for the further research. There is no law that asks us to do research in order to not look ignorant and there is freedom for people to do or not to. There is nothing stupid about that,it's choice of ignorance. Nobody cares to find out truth, everyone have their life so they ask if they find it interesting else they move on. There is no point in hitting harshly for anyone's ignorance, and again it's not stupidity cause if we start to catch people on ignorance and stupidity there will be huge debate on almost every point in life, especially in theology. Oh well, this will go nowhere.

Besides word "sutra" is way too odd and asians known it way better how odd it is than anyone else. Especially in india, even school kids know "kama sutra" more than mathematical "sutra" (expression). Shouting word "sutra" in india will tempt any person's head for "kama sutra" this is in more than 90% population, rest "5% for spirituality", remaining "5% for maths,general usage" of this word. It's the word which is promoted this way. Besides internet filters in schools and college have word "sutra" filtered, for what ? Lol.

Let's just earn mycent, get hosting. Let's keep promotion stuff to opaque, he took the risk with word so he knows how to work it out.

Yes i have read the explanation of "sutra" but it is unrealistic to expect every new visitor and my passing co-workers to go and read up about it. There is no law that asks us to do research in order to not look ignorant and there is freedom for people to do or not to. There is nothing stupid about that,it's choice of ignorance.

there SHOULD be a law. at least an unwritten one. it's pretty stupid if someone continues to say or believe in something that isn't true. there are few exceptions to that in regards to tradition and children(in my opinion). i can't sit back and let people believe whatever they feel like believing when i know it's 100% wrong. one i read something one time.....ok.....twice....maybe......three times? naw....i'm gonna speak my mind because i see a trend forming and it needs to stop. how would you feel if i kept referring to YOUR name as something sexual. or how it's a name that shouldn't have been picked as a user name here in the first place and sounds like a bad porn name? or if we were in school together studying for a test and you know i'm not understanding things correctly. your philosophy is just to allow me to be ignorant and fail the test? people ARE interested in the truth. also.....some people care enough to nip some things in the bud so it doesn't spread like a virus. so anyway, you have expressed your views very clearly. i will stick with mine if you don't mind.

Well what a surprise. I am glad for the redirect as I have been gone for a while and would never have found the site with the new name. Reading all the negative reviews to newSutra really took time. I hope things basically stay the same here at the forums after the name change to KnowledgSutra and this isn't an April Fools trick. I kind of liked the Trap 17 handle. Sorry to see it go. Whatever you were thinking Shree, I hope it works for us all. I tried to understand all your explaining, but most of it went over my head.

The homepage says "Xisto Quest for Wisdom through Knowledge". On the same page I am presented with options for free web hosting. At first sight it appears that a self-improvement website and free web hosting forum tried to merge with devastating consequences. There are far too many menu options and all of them are practically identical to each other - you only need four clear categories "home, about us, join in, other hosting sites". You should also get rid of the music in the background - I like to listen to music whilst I'm using the computer and I only expect to hear it on websites when I'm playing a game. The other thing I've never been a fan of in websites is the use of an "Enter Site" button/page; it's completely unnecessary - why would I not want to enter the website after typing the URL in my browser and waiting for the front page to load?

 

I actually liked the name Xisto as a free hosting website: it's catchy and modern (and the fact that's it's so unusual makes you think about it more so more likely to remember it). Someone mentioned that Xisto doesn't sound like a web host either so you can't complain about the change. The point is that Xisto could be anything (although, funnily enough, it does sound like an arcade) but Xisto is clearly about self-improvement, not hosting. However, this site clearly isn't dedicated to free hosting any more.

 

Tbh, I just feel a little bit confused by it all. I'm hoping that this isn't the finished product and that mine and other people's suggestions will be taken on board. The only real problem is that it's very hard to tell exactly what this site is for. It is for this reason that I agree with SM - relaunch it as a separate website.

 

Don't take this the wrong way though. I really like what you do and wouldn't have been a member for five years if I didn't - I just think that there is a fair amount to be improved upon so that the can go from great to better!

Well now we are on the new name, I have made a topic about new themes for a 'New leaf' as such, some of you may have seen today that Opaque has replied saying we will be upgrading to Invision Power Board 3! which is great news as this runs and looks so much better than these 2.3.X versions! I am not to sure when it will be though I am very sure it will be announced in the up-coming future.
