Cheap, really, at $89.00 USD.

But the question is about the details in the description.

What is a System Builder's Edition? and how is it different than a standard copy?

System builders: Those who put together their computer from buying the parts separately; like me. That means no annoying locking out of your own PC if you change parts. It's only logical for such an edition to be sold on Newegg. However, don't be surprised if there is still a catch.

System Builder's or OEM editions are no different to the 'normal' version except for one thing: the licence is not transferrable. If you buy a new PC, you cannot transfer the licence to it, and so you will need to buy a new copy of XP for that machine. However, you can still update the hardware inside your current machine within Microsoft's usual restrictions.

System Builder's disks are also often sent as a disk in a paper sleeve, with the licence key and sticker on a piece of paper. There is no fancy box and no included printed manual. But, really, who needs them?

Edit: Some retailers will not let you buy a System Builder's version unless you also purchase a piece of hardware at the same time. Usually you can pick something really cheap (like a PCI USB card or something) as they know that you can get hardware from other places. I think they just have to confirm you are actually building a system.

Really nice price, but I'd rather get a computer that has it pre-installed onto it already. Although its hard to find a pre-installed Windows XP because you rarely see that anymore. They're all onto Vista now.

So more or less that's just the OEM version? I thought OEM was only available to actual retailers - like Dell, HP, etc. to preinstall on systems?

Yes system builders are just like OEM's, but only for small local assembled pc makers. The OS is same, the difference is its licence restrictions. Just as rvalkass told, the license for system builders edition is limited. So, simply, OEM's are for manufacturers like Dell ...and system builders are for small assembled pc makers.

A system builders license of OEM license, is a version of software, which can only legally be sold with a new PC or parts for a PC.The software itself is no different to the non OEM version, it just doesn't include a box or user manual.
