grnjd 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2006 nod32 has a firewall??? I did not know that, when I first got nod32 i really liked it so I scorched their site look to see if they also made firewalls which they didn't. They recommended me to stupid kerio, which doesn't even work as well. But I have to say that outpost or zonealarm is the best.
XxUNDEROATHxX 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2006 I just use avast and my router...togeather, theyre the best...oh, and I have MS antispyware, AD-Aware SE, CCleaner, and all sorts of stuff like that...but my best protection:not clicking on the FREE PORN links in my spam folder....In my opinion, you have to be pretty stupid to get a totally infected system.... tt3 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2006 I don't use a software firewall anymore, as I've got one in my router, but when I was on Dial-up, Zone Alarm was the firewall I chose. I tried Kerio, and Sygate - didn't like them.
Inspiron 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2006 You may still need a firewall installed on your computer as a built-in firewall on your router may not block all of the intrusion. You may still risk being attack or even some scripts that make your router send unregconised data to your computer, making the connection crash or something. xavierrd 0 Report post Posted March 2, 2006 So far, while using Windows XP, its own firewall has served well enough. While I used win2k, I used Zone Alarm without any trouble, as far as I know It wasn't really "heavy" and I like the way it could be configured.
Inspiron 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2006 Norton Internet Security 2005No Way! Norton is using too much resources and slowing down my computer alot more. It's irritating when a notice keeps poping up when an application is trying to access the internet. It will not ask once. It asks at least 3 times. And these popups are more irritating than web popups. Their popups are configured to be the front-most window. So whatever you are doing at the moment will be interrupted. I dislike it when I was playing a game in full screen and that popup appears and brought me out of the game so it could be the front-most window. After I return back to the full screen game, that popup took control again, and repeated more than 3 times. No longer will I go with Norton anymore. I'd rather have peaceful moments with free security tools than to pay for irritating software.
Cool_Freaker 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2006 Norton used to be the best, but these days it really does chew through the system resources, and the subscription idea is really putting people off. Apparantly a lot of people have had issues with Norton screwing with files that it shouldn't and causing running errors. Best to stay away from I would say, unless you're a super computer novice (coz I'm guessing they have tech support )

A long time ago I used to use Norton, but as find3r says, it was really, really heavy, so I changed for Kaspersky (the one mentioned above) and I found it very good. If you ask me I don't know which of the two is better, but what I know is that I like A LOT that NOD32 tells you all the time that he has updated the database, I don't know if that works, but I like it. P.S. I just remember something, sometime ago I had a problem with my antivirus (NOD) cause I downloaded a trainer for a game and every time I entered the folder where it was the trainer, NOD wanted to delete it cause it said that "changed the uses of the buttons on the keyboard", thing that was obvious because it was a trainer, but I couldn't make him understand that wasn't a threat, so I had to create a special rule telling him not to analyze that file... Thats the only thing I have against NOD
BordaForx 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2006 I know a great one for free. It's called AVG Free Edition. I had Nortorn Anti-Virus once, and trust me, the AVG is better. Also, I recommend adding a Spybot Search and Destroy, and Ad-aware SE Personal. With those on the run, and checking everyday, I think you can have a pretty much safe computer. Oh, and also, they're all free. That's the good part.
