jack 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2005 I see a lot of people complaining or downloading programs such as "Norton Anti-Virus Software". If you're are looking for a good firewall program download ZoneAlarm, it's great, and if you're looking for a good virus program download PC-Cillin or AVG - free. Norton Anti just messes your whole system up, trust me.Hope this helps people .Jack.

Jack. 205718[/snapback] norton hardly messes your whole system up however, it is processor and RAM intensive, so you may want to disable autoprotect except when needed. ZoneAlarm is fairly good, however. Kaspersky Anti virus is also a very good .. antivirus, probably the top for undocumented viruses.
tigen28 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2005 Yeah, i agree with jack. Zonealarm and avg free personal edition is great to use.Along with them, I also use adaware. They all are free; not only that, there is also periodical updates that you can download for free as new defenses are made up to treat current threats. _TyIzaeL_ 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2005 If you want free programs, I would recommend Avast! and Sygate Personal Firewal [both are free] I switched from ZoneAlarm to Sygate because Sygate is more customizable and interferes with my gaming less. Plenoptic 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2005 My parents bought Norton a couple weeks ago but I haven't installed it yet. From all of the reviews I have seen though it sounds pretty good. For spyware remover and keyloggers I recommend Spy Sweeper. It takes a long time to scan but really gets the job done.
pawitp 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2005 Norton was reccommended by alot of PC-speacialist to users.(in my country) But I prefer avast anti-virus. It doesn't require those BIG files for updates. It doesn't come up and urge me to update it. It just update it's self and SAYS(in voice) "Your virus database has been updated". I reccommend this to anyone with dial-up and doesn't want to wait for long updates
sonicbj 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2005 i have norton internet security 2005 and it is great but i need alot of RAM for it to work properly i used to use Zonealarm for years and really liked it but i find Norton much better.in my country Norton is named the best firewall around and most people have it.a firewall that i used to have is VET it is a really bad one and it never detedted a single virus (even tho i had heaps)
LocalSeer 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2005 A warning stay away from mcafee, I recieved a free 1 year subscription and it's only been a hastle, too many things are done server side and forces you to make tons of passwords that have no meaning. User interface is horrible and you have to search for simple commands like turning off their annoying "privacy service" which was imposible and I had to set up a automatic sign in on startup.Sonicbj you should still keep Zonealarm along with norton, since norton focuses on viruses and zone alarms is much better at its focus of blocking rouge internet connections or blocking your computer's spyware trying to send your info out. malish 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2005 I would strongly recommend from my own experience Kaspersky Anti Virus Personal (AVP) combined with Zone Alarm Pro Firewall. For some reason I didn't like Kaspersky Firewall, because of the lack of settings, but Zone Alarm Pro gives you rich variety of settings and setups you can make. pbrugge 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2005 Since I use windows 2% of my computertime I have a simple but good free virus scanner on it namely avast. Its free and does not load such big files as for example norton or mc-afee but it does its job and thats whats important. For firewall I use a linux box with iptables running and offcourse the normal nat firewall builth in my router (but that on sux).Yes 2% of my time I work in windows and thats only because I need to because of 1 program I need for my study that does not work in anyway on my main os linux.Speaking of linux since there are also some trojans-worms for that os I also use a virusscanner at that installation (not really needed but better save as sorry) namely f-prot which is also a good windows or dos scanner. Chez 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2006 I prefer antivir. it's free and uses very little system resources. Pairing this with Zone Alarm and Ad-Aware makes your system nearly impenatrable (save for flaws in the OS itself).
