Blacklaser 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2006 I was wondering what everybody is doing to get their sites known? In other words: What topsites do you submit too? Link exchanges? Banner exchanges? What would you recommend me to promote a site like http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I've been getting a few hits and shouts from Xisto (Thanks all who gave feedback again) and friends but I was wondering what I can do to keep the traffic up? Plenoptic 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2006 You really have to be able to affiliate and exchange links with sites that are some how related to your own. Otherwise no one will come from that site because they are probably looking for something else if they aren't related. It takes a lot of time and hard work to get it going. Submit to top sites that are ranking those related to your own as well.

wappy 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 i own wap and web site on my account and i know two great top sites that let you put your wap and web url's so users can visit either. With this method i can link to them on my wap site and also my web site in theory sending them more clicks and therefore getting more back. The sites are surfwap.com and mradar.com but with mradar only join if your site is very busy as you must send around 50 clicks a day to stay on their list but if you can manage this you will be very happy with the return trust me :-)
Chatz 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 True, the best way to get your site known is to add your site to toplists.I am a good wap/web coder,I add all my sites to toplists and still one of the best and well known toplists is surfwap.
uiop 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 I've participated in a few banner exchange programs. These programs are really intresting, although they ususally don't drive all that much traffic to your site.

ink 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 It's not a very fast way to get your site known, but it does work: become friends with people who own the same sort of website you do. It's not very useful when you run a messageboard but when you own an online magazine for example, you could try to get in touch with others who have an online magazine. When yours is about let's say cars and motorbikes, you might want to be friends with someone who has a website (magazine) about sports. If it's not a *very* commercial project, you might swap banners with eachother for free. Not only do you place eachother's ads on your websites, you might want to personally direct people (plug) to eachother. It's common to notify *your* visitors that your friend (affiliate) updated his/her website.

BOAW 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 the best way to get your known i think is to search for a forums that is relevant to your site and bascially advertise your site...youll get so many visiters on your site that should have interest in it...its what ive done...it works great..ive gotten unlimited people coming into the site...n the great thing is is that thoughs people that come in will tell others in that forums site about your own site and your site will grow even faster
Blacklaser 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2006 yeah the forum thing is a good idea, I've looked into toplists and such but I don't like the idea too much because you need to add a banner to your site and I don't want my site overflowing with badly designed toplist banners. So I'm still looking for alternatives.
Sprnknwn 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2006 Some things I?ve done... first of all take some time to decide which metatags to include. Then submit it to a lot of search engines. There are sites that allow you to do it to lots of them at the same time but I suppose that is better to do it one by one and be sure that you don?t do it a lot of times in few days, because you can get banned or penalized. You also have to look what other simmilar sites have to offer, which will help you to improve yours. This is important because when you gently spam some related webs and forums you need to offer something new. Otherwise nobody will move. Exchange links with websites, but I recommend only exchanging with quality sites. Of course you?ll gain more popularity if you exchange with 500 webs but realize that probably 200 will die the next month, and other 200 will be of very poor quality so maybe it?s not and advantage to have associations with those. Finally, the best way to win popularity is quality. If people lov your site, you?ll get users because they?ll tell their friends, recommend your site in forums, blogs, etc. nd that?s the best way of promotion, when somebody external to the site does it. sportytalk 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2006 I agree with what sprnknwn said, you need to ensure that the meta tags are accurate and then submit to the various search engines. It's also helpful if you submit your site to an open directory, such as dmoz.org, as many of the search engines go to these sites and will find your site through such directories.Once your site is on the search engines, you will have random people coming by searching the search engine (you can specify which keywords find your site in the meta tags). It's not only search engines which can attract users to your website. There's also various blogs and forums around the internet. If you manage to advertise your website on these forums, the search engines and the users/bots viewing the forum page will be linked to your website. People would then be able to find your site on google through that forum page.I'm not sure on topsites, some people say they work, some people don't. I haven't really used them, but on the couple of occasions that I have, I've found that they don't really work very well.Hope this helps.
Blacklaser 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2006 Yeah I haven't put any metatags in my site yet, but I'm going too, I was also planning on submitting it to a few directories, so that's gonna be the next step after I got my metatags straight.I'm also hoping for peer to peer promotion, I think that's what can really work for my site, unfortunately there lies my dilema, I need poeple to post intersting content for other poeple to find the site interesting... as long as I only have a few poeple come by and even less poeple post it ain't gonna work... oh well I'll seeThanks for all the replies, always open to hear more stuff.
