Negative Calorie Foods its for everyone who wants to be slim and fit.

Recommended Posts

people if this was the case then if you only ate fruit and veg ie. vegan. Then you would starve to death as your body would consume more energy than you could ever give it. Since all those vegans out there arent starving to death I'm inclined not to believe this! although I do agree eating these things would be good for you and help you loose weight. It is the negative calorie thing I dissagree with.

an earlier poster mentioned that this is only the case when the foods are RAW. not in any state. and just because someone is vegan doesnt mean they dont believe in cooking. they still cook therefore eliminating your response on the matter. The reason why they are negative calorie foods in their raw state is because it is taking you more effort to break it down than it does to digest the food.

until i read this post the only food i really knew that fell under this category was celery, for good reason too. that stuff is hard to eat sometimes

You will still be gaining fat, which is why many people don't count calories anymore. It's like diet sodas. You won't be getting any calories from them, but your getting a lot of sodium usually. Any excess in something, can result in fat. Too much protein, (usually is pooped out), but it call us but contained in fat cells until there is a sortage of them. Therefore I'm sure you won't be losing too much weight.

Negative calorie foods.Negative Calorie Foods

Okay, so I believe and this is really probably stupid of me, but I think that it depends on how you eat these veggies and fruits. Like, if you put ranch dressing on a carrot and eat it sitting in front of the tv, you obviously are just eating. If you walk around eating  it plain, its mega-healthful. Also it was not mentioned that these foods are nutrient rich. And the thing about vegans! I am  vegan, live on spinach, carrots, mustard, and vanilla water and NEWSFLASH! I AM NOT A CORPSE! (although I am in the 2nd percentile for bmi...Maybe you have a point.)

You forgot a couple of things to add to the zero calorie( negative!!) list:

Mustard

Parsley, Cinnamon (slimming), pepper, pretty much any spice

black coffee with Splenda tm

many things. Not just vegs and fruits

Oka :)

This post is a lie... Zero Calorie Foods do not exist...Negative Calorie FoodsHEREIN LIES SCIENCE - READ FOR ASTUTE INFORMATION!!A negative calorie food is a food that is purported to require more calories to be digested than it provides. That is, its thermic effect is greater than its calorie content. Meaning that your body uses more heat and energy to break down the complex compounds than you can absorb from them.THIS IS A LIE! No such food exists... The premise of a fruit's existince, is so that other animals eat it, and spread the seeds (which don't get digested) after they have moved on. Why would any animal eat anything with negative calories?More simply.. If something is sweet, it has sugars. If it has sugars (glucose, sucrose, fructose etc...) they are VERY easily broken down, and converted into energy.. This is the reason we like sweet things.. Because they give us energy (evolution towards survival)..Back to some more science:The thermic effect of food does cause your body to burn up calories as it processes meals, snacks, and beverages. But this process accounts for anywhere from 0 to 30% of the calories you eat (protein, for example, takes more calories to digest than fat or carbohydrates) A medium size piece of celery has only about 6 calories; and its thermic effect is approximately half a calorie. In reality, negative calorie foods are nothing more than wishful thinking. In short... NO FOOD AMOUNTS TO NEGATIVE CALORIES OTHERWISE IT ISN'T FOOD.The only things that would amount to negative calories, would be those which enter and leave your body in EXACTLY the same state. Like sand.. But this is obviously bad for your health...-reply by Scientist

OK. Very interesting! I personally have never heard things like negative calorie foods, empty calorie foods, and so on. By going through some of the replies above, it seems to me that it is real; i.e., those fruits and vegetables burn more calories than they generate indeed. I would think this is new to a lot of people if not most people. Rather than making everyone who reads this thread to do his/her own research, I would suggest posting additional information to substantiate what you claim. That way readers of this thread won't simply be surprised; they hopefully will get the idea that fruits and vegetables are net calorie-burning foods. My personal experience tells me that, for weight control, genes are very important, amount of food intake is very important, and balanced diet is very important. Some people are over weight no matter how little they eat. Some people are under weight no matter how much they eat. What they eat doesn't matter either. If you are in either of the above groups, you are either very lucky or very unlucky. If you are in the "average" group, then you should worry about how much you eat and what you eat from pure weight control perspective.

I know this is a very old thread but having gone through so many diets before I know a thing or two about the stuff that has been said here. First of all I did weight training for a while and I had been working closely with a very qualified Personal trainer and Phd. nutritionist.First things first, First myth I read in this thread is that there are no negative calories in food. THIS IS A MYTH. There are indeed negative calorie food in that the poster was right. Some food need more calories than the food contains to burn the calories you are eating. The poster did not say that there are no calories in the neagtive calorie food at all. Only that you will need more calories than it contains to burn it off. how do I know that? Well when I was weight training I needed to eat certain things because of the weights I was lifting and I had to go on a strict calorie count. One day I was going out with a couple of friends and one of them was my weight trainer and another one was my nutritionist. They were both working on a program specially designed for me. When the waiter came to take our orders, I asked them what I could order and they told me about the negative calorie food. They even told me to order kiwi juice because kiwi is a negative fruit. Second, eating more proteins than carbohydrates would make you lose weight. ANOTHER DANGEROUS MYTH. When you eat more proteins than carbs it means you have to exercise more because the proteins make you build muscles and if you do eat more proteins and not exercise then you are causing harm for your body. If you don't believe me ask any personal trainer. I used to eat more proteins when I was weight training because I was building muscles. Now a healthy diet contains more fruits and vegetables and less protein and carbs. Everyone knows that. Now if you are lifting weights then you can increase proteins because your muscles need more proteins. Third thing I wanted to mention is that KIWI IS ANOTHER NEGATIVE CALORIE FOOD. It was missing from the list provided by the poster. The reason why I know this is provided in the first point I mentioned in this post.Lastly, if you are eating more proteins than carbs and not exercising to burn that protein off it could cause liver problems because it causes more strains on your liver trying to produce more enzymes to burn off your protein intake.I want to personally thank the person who posted this list because these fruits and vegetables are very healthy for you and they ARE negative calorie food.Last thing I want to say is you don't have to believe me or anyone who talks about healthy eating because if you want to start a diet you have to ALWAYS ask a nutrition specialist and not believe any myth you hear over the internet. Only ask the people that know what they are saying. But most importantly eat more of the natural food and less of the processed and fatty food and you should be eating healthy. And don't EVER do crash diets or go on those marketing diets like atkins or south beach because they all are marketing tricks for people to buy the food labelled with their diet labels in the stores. They all have side effects. Just work with health professionals who will not recommend certain hard to find food only for them to get commission. The most healthy diet should consist of food that are easy to find and available everywhere.

Great, list, thanks for sharing! i knew about cabbage, celery and onions, but it's nice to see a lot longer list for some variety. But on the zucchinni, I don't suppose it would be a negitive if it is deep fried would it?

Hmmm well that depends on the occasion i suppose don't those southern ladies deep fry everything and some of them have bodies to die for.... And it most definately doesnt seem to hurt those southern hunks either with thier southern drawl and 8pack muscled bodies....

Sheepdog I figure we can deep fry anything we want as long as we spend the next 6 hours chasing after the Kids, puppies and what ever else seems to monopolise our lives..... It all comes down to Balance, If we burn more fuel than we take in we loose weight, its when we take in more fuel then we need that our asses start to look like Big Mama's :) so Deep Fried Marsbars and 8 hours of chasing animals should keep us in check :)

ROTFLMAO! Oh, ain't that the truth! My critters do a pretty good job of keeping the fat run off me. Not 100% of course, I still have more than enough to spare, but I do worry about what would happen if I ever broke a leg and and had to sit on my butt for 6-8 weeks. I'd probably end up weighing 300 lbs! Cause it's not likely my eating habits would change just because my motion had slowed. I do like to eat!

oh i love to eat. that's why i am not so concerned about this negative food calorie stuff. i like all the stuff that is typically bad for ya. it's starting to show now a little in my old age where my metabolism isn't what it used to be so now i am thinking of exercising more if i can just get myself in to some sort of productive routine again :)
