  1. I've been to my cpanel and found the account name and the required user id's etc. It seems to recognize the username, but stalls on the password. I went so far as to add a new user account so that I knew what the password was, but it still won't let me in to uplaod. Are there any settings that should be altered anywhere? I haven't used the ftp on the account yet, so it should be in a "raw" state from the set up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...
  2. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Here is a better link for the css dimensioning properties. I'll ask the mods to delete the specific links for min-width and max-width since this new link is more informative and should be more helpful to yourself and others. The specific information for min and max sizes are also available on the w3schools site. Use the site search box in the top right corner. So, tweo things come out of this. The css for the element would become: element {min-width: 50%; max-width: 80%} and as reported by rvalkass below and on the chart at w3schools these properties are not supported by IE. Use it carefully. Sorry, bad link above. Try this one css dimensioning properties Notice from BuffaloHELP: Merged and edited as reported.
  3. Good Job. I agree with round. I spend too much time on the net already. LOL Keeping the credits up-to-date here and setting up a website or two is enough for me. Good Luck with the forum.
  4. So, tyssen, is xhtml 1.1 available right now?
  5. I think Xhtml1.1 is still is the works. It doesn't look like there will be the 3 DTD's either. The section you want to read on the w3c site is here. And here is a clip from the site: However, the Modularization of the xhtml will allow for the use of a "frames" module (?). There is more on the site, so have a look. Hope this helps.

    Abortion

Abortion - the perennial favourite of Debates held everywhere. In a nutshell, I'll give my opinion, then you won't hear from me anymore because I think that I have a fairly good grasp on my thoughts about the topic, so here goes...Medically, there are good procedures and guidlines which can be used to determine when the process is safe for the mother. Of course, the procedure is never safe for the fetus. And there are valid reasons for the Abortion process. When a pregnancy jeoparodizes the Mother's health and well-being, it is an acceptable option. Notice that the "well-being" includes a conception from unacceptable sources, ie: rape, incest. The birthing of the fetus would not be good (long term) under these circumstances for the psychological well-being of the mother and perhaps not for the fetus, either. So, having said these things, you might guess where I'm going. And here it is: Yes, there is a time and a place for acceptable, clinically determined Abortions. Generally, when the Mother's life and or health is at risk. Now here is the balance of my opinion: Abortion and Birth Control are two seperate things. Don't confuse them. Using Abortion as a form of Birth Control is, in my most humble opinion, not right. If you play with fire, you may get burned. That's easy enough to understand, so if I may take the statement and adapt it to this discussion it would become: If you have sex, you may get pregnant. And that comment is not directed to the Ladies reading this thread. It is for all of you. Yes, you guys, too. To summarize: yes and no for Abortion. I believe there is a time and a place, but from what I see in North America at least, there is far too much of it going on for the wrong reason.JMHO
  7. I still like the one you gave me the best of all...Yes, very good Graphics here at the trap... Keep up the good work...
  8. Tyssen, I have lost my network adapter/drivers on my principal machine and have been using a friend's Mac OS X machine for the last three weeks or so. Stuck with it for another few weeks until I get the laptop back. No FF on this one and I promised I wouldn't mess with it, so don't want to d/l a FF browser for it. I sure miss my old beater * sniff * !

    George Bush

A friend from California sent me this one:google the word "failure" (no quotes) and look at the first page that pops up.
  10. The site I have uploaded is not yet public. I also host a forum which is private. So far this month, about one third of my bandwidth is showing as being used by enquiries to/from the USA. Nothing against the Americans, of course, but the membership of the forum using my hosting account here at the trap consists entirely of Canadian members. And since the only place that I have announced the site is here at the Xisto, it really is not public. The 'wasted/lost' bandwidth this month alone is over 180 megs out of my allowed 512 megs., so I am trying to put a stop to it. I suspect someone is hijacking my bandwidth. Don't know how or why, but it would be nice to put a stop to it... Any Ideas??? (I've placed IP bans on a couple of them. I'll check again tomorrow to see if they continue.)
  11. The second one has a much cleaner look to it and more space available on the green background for text and images. And as someone else mentioned, definitely bevel the edges and expand it.You might also consider making your grey look more metallic but then I'm assuming it is supposed to be a metal?
  12. That is a really nice vector. I especially like the colors you've used. They all compliment each other perfectly.I wish I could do images like that too!
  13. Computers ( and females ) have the ability to defy 'logic' . Some things are just the way they are because that is how is works. Accept that "pic_01.gif" doesn't work and rename it??? Seriously, though, I wonder if that is a 'reserved name' in the Frontpage software? or in the browser you are using? Try changing browsers??? And from what you are showing on the posting, why are you using the Frontpage thingy? There isn't enough complexity there to not be able to hand code the page.. JMHO Just noticed that the gif is 540 high by 500 wide. That'll take a while to load. Are you being patient with it? Allowing it time to be downloaded? That could be a part of the problem, too. -----
  14. The Xisto.com web hosting and forums have been up all week that I know of. How is your local ISP? Talk to some of your friends on the same service to see if they have the same difficulties. My web site here at the trap and a forum I host here are fine... Hope this helps...
  15. Y E S !!! Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much...
  16. You should be able to specify the border colours by including a Hex colour code to each or all borders using the properties of " border-color", "border-top-color",( also bottom, right, left). The shorthand for specifying Border Properties is : width, style, color, in that order, so, #table1 { border 1px solid #xxXXxx;} would set a solid 1 pixel wide border of colour xxXXxx to the element. Styles available include solid, dotted, groove, double, inset, outset.Possible values are "#hex value for colour", Transparent, Inherit.Have fun...
  17. Welcome to the Xisto Forum. Keep posting and the hosting will follow sooner than you think. Be sure to read and follow the rules or the Mods will make notes and that isn't a good thing. They are fair, but don't make them mad....Enjoy your stay. Great place to hang out...
  18. I am curious about how to block the bots and / or spiders from accessing my subdomain. I believe that I may have one using a terrible amount of Bandwidth. Is this possible? and how do I stop it?
  19. broflovski, As a parent, I would be proud of your position against Discrimination. There are others who don't see it this way, but perhaps some day they will. The world is getting smaller and distinctions are becoming fuzzy between cultures and races. You must be picking up your opinions from school, or elsewhere. Well, let me suggest something and see if it might make a difference in your relationship with your Parents. First of all, when was the last time you told them you loved them? They need to see that coming from you. And sometimes words are not enough. Running a household is a demanding task. Help them out in small ways. Take out the garbage (without being asked). Wash your Father's car (without being asked). If you have younger brothers or sisters, take them to a park for the afternoon (without being asked) so your parents are not looking after them. Basically, chip in a bit towards running the Home you are living in. Show them you are capable of assuming some responsibility. None of these individual things is enough, of course to re-build a faulty relationship, but often these little things will be enough to show others around you that you are interested in the relationship to change your behaviour for the benefit the others. If your family is truly dysfunctional, some "Professional" help might be in order. Start by talking to someone you trust. It might be a school teacher, or Principal, or the school nurse. Or your Family Doctor. There may be something they can suggest which will improve your living conditions. In the mean time, please be reminded that , yes, they are your parents and they love you dearly. It is genetic, I think...
  20. So I will just ignore it? Okay. BTW Thanks, Opaque.
  21. Can someone take the time to explain to me (and other inquiring minds) what the "attachments" thing is all about at the My Controls page? I don't know what it is or what it does. Is there an explanation posted on the forum anywhere? If so, please point me to it. Thanks.
  22. Found this link by mistake today. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ It uses 4 . 35 kb/sec as a typical speed and will tell you how long your page takes compared to other popular sites. Pretty slick.
  23. So when was the last time you uploaded? If it was the day before, then perhaps they missed it that day??? How close does the manual addition of the file sizes get to the 7 or 10 meg? Could there be rounding errors on the file manager display?Just some things to consider.
  24. Okay, it took me a while, but I stumbled upon the answer today, so here it is: Insert this mete tag in the head section of your document. <meta http-equiv= "expires" content = "0" /> This will expire the page in your cache so that the next time you load the page, it looks for the source rather than the version which is in your cache. There is another way to do the same thing by giving the file an expiry date which is already passed. For example using a date of dec 31 2004, the cache expiry date has already passed, so the source will not be cached. I'll post a version here when I find one. When I am building a site, I use this meta tag while editting and reviewing the css files and positioning elements. That way the most recent version is read by the browser. And you don't have to bother emptying the cache before each change is reviewed. Hope this helps.
  25. In my experience, the best way to have people learn about the importance of being careful about downloads is to have them get a really bad mal-warre which locks their machine solid. Believe me, it will change their habits. When a powerful, hard to remove set of malware won't let them do anything on the device and requires a major reset of the system (probably a hard drive re-format and re-install) most people learn from the experience. But not all of them. I have a friend whose machine gets locked up about every four months, but he still continues to D/l the stuff which harms the computer, so I have quit helping him to reset anything. I'm not certain he will ever learn from these experiences. Some people are just like that...
