Interesting topic. One observation... the original contributor and the two following contributors have rather oppressive looking characters as icons at the end of their messages. Now, if you believe that God or religion is controlling or oppressive and you dislike that, why do you idolize icons that represent that very thing? On a personal note, I believe that numerous people on this planet profess a religious attachment. They do so for socio-economic reasons usually and not because they even have a personal relationship with any supreme being that they claim to worship. It is for this reason that religion and politics are so closely intertwined... especially in the western world. But religion, and politics, are the very cause of most human suffering and oppression in this world, i.e., crusades, Spanish inquisition, Third Reich, Vietnam, etc.So the issue is not, I believe, that there is no God or other supreme being. It is rather that humans think they can make a formula for being good and force it on others in the form of religion. Then they say they are doing God's will. The big question is why God allows these imposters to continue doing things and "blaming" it on him? Someday, however, I believe these imposters will be exposed and destroyed.

I guess I'll have to sign up, dust off my headset, and give it a shot. Thanks! -
Real diamonds are mined from the earth. Fake diamonds are costume jewelry or cubic zirconia. Manufactured diamonds, however, are man-made and a diamond expert cannot tell the difference between it and a real diamond. If you have access to a library with an archive of Life Magazine, look up this article:Authors: Van Biema, David & Duncan, David EwingSource: Life; Mar93, Vol. 16 Issue 3, p54, 3p, 5cAbstract: Discusses how Lea Potts, a 15-year-old students at Mount Vernon High School in Alexandria, Va., can make diamonds with her dad's welding torch. Scientists are rapidly learning how to create diamonds easily and cheaply, and the future fairly sparkles with the promise of Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD). How transmutation works; Advice from Naval Research Laboratory; The possibilities in electronics; More.

What Is Neuro Linguistic Programming Ill tell you...
goldinero replied to Pdrive's topic in General Discussion
I've heard of NLP. Ross Jeffries sells information on how to use it to seduce women. I've never bought any of his stuff, but if you can master the NLP methods, I guess it works pretty well. -
What Is A Chupacabra? Very Interesting.
goldinero replied to AmandaB78's topic in General Discussion
Whether or not it's real, there are some pretty freaky unexplained things these chupacabras purportedly do to animals and humans. If you can stomach it, here are photos of a human mutilation that doesn't look like anything done by another human. -
Slax with GUI (standard edition) is about 177 MB ISO image that you can download and burn to CD. The standard edition doesn't have Mozilla or Firefox. It has KDE with Konqueror and the K word processor and spreadsheet.

I recently found out about a free voice over IP service called Skype. I'd like to know if anyone has used this service and how well it works.
-
Sounds great! Have you built a prototype yet?
-
I recommend Slax, which is a scaled down version of Slackware Linux. It is relatively small (less than 180 MB), has the KDE user interface and most the stuff you need to run a decent desktop system. Plus, since it is a "live-CD," you can load it on any computer without having to install it to the harddrive. Oh, and it is modular so you can add to it by downloading modules from the Slax website (above) that install from floppy or USB drive during boot.

Since I'm an open source junkie, I prefer not to pay for my software. If you want a free web editor, try Nvu. It seems to have an intuitive user interface making webpage design simple.

Do You Think This Is A Good Idea? Way to make money
goldinero replied to AmandaB78's topic in Business Forum
It's an excellent idea to sell your creations online. You shouldn't need a license to do it either. I know several people who sell stuff without a license. And regarding the comments about ebay and PayPal, I would take exception to them. I have sold stuff on ebay and used PayPal for years without problems. I have read that some people have had bad experiences. But I would think that is more the exception than the rule. It's easier and cheaper to get going in your own online business with PayPal than by trying to get your own credit card merchant account. For some tips on how to get started, you may want to look up the keywords "101 ebay tips" in Google and read some of the info that you find. It comes from people who have been there, done that, and got the t-shirt. -
Slax is a live-CD that can turn any PC into a Linux box without installing anything onto the hard-drive. It's a scaled down version of Slackware Linux. I tried it recently and am very impressed! Check it out at the Slax website.

Yahoo Mail Beta New Look for Yahoo Mail
goldinero replied to cse-icons's topic in Science and Technology
Competition is good. I'm glad to see Yahoo! is trying to be innovative. But it gets more and more difficult as a company gets bigger and bigger. My bet is on Google and Gmail for future growth. Although I am a Yahoo! mail subscriber and use that service regularly. -
At the current rate of technological development and world communication, I don't think the world could last till 2437. It is more likely that a world government will develop within this century. Then will be Armaggedon. Recall that the Biblical word "anti" in "anti-Christ" actually means "in place of" or "substitute for." English speaking people think "anti" means "against" since that is the English meaning of the term. But that is not the Biblical meaning of it. Therefore, the "anti-Christ" is not againts Christ, but a substitute for Christ. In other words, the enemy of the saints will be a deceiver who puts himself in a position of honor and glory only meant for Christ. Anyway, that's my take on it.

Many girls have had messed up relationships with their parents and, therefore, cannot have a decent relationship with a boyfriend. It is likely she is just messing with you. But the only way to know is to be straight-up and ask her. Of course, if she is a liar as well, my advice won't help you.

Whats Your Favorite Thing To Do? What is it?
goldinero replied to SharpShooter22's topic in General Discussion
I really enjoy dinking with computers. But they frustrate me too.I guess what I REALLY enjoy is water sports: swimming, boogie boarding, snorkeling, water-skiing, jet-skiing, boating. -
I haven't checked out Google Talk. I used to use a service several years ago based on VoIP, however, that allowed a person to call a real phone from his computer using an internet/phone switch gateway. Google doesn't have a gateway?

Most guys don't get this till AFTER they grow up... heck, some don't even get it then. But here's the key - self-confidence! Girls are attracted to guys with self-confidence. That's why so many of them are attracted to the "dangerous type." It's because they are confident enough to go against the norms of society.I learned about girls and self-confidence when I took up Latin dancing (salsa and merengue) several years ago. When I was confident in my dancing, it attracted the girls. Also, when I used to DJ (a gig that requires self-confidence) I attracted the girls. Most girls love to dance. One of the best ways to impress them and show your self-confidence is to become a good dancer. So go to the local library and get some videos on dancing (hip hop, country line dance, salsa, or whatever) and practice in the privacy of your home till you know you're good at it. Then use your new skills at the school dances.Good luck!

Question: A Reason To Staying Active Why Trap17 host for posts?
goldinero replied to Microsoft's topic in Web Hosting Support
I believe Xisto is primarily an advertising-based website. Therefore, the more folks actively participating in the forums, the more viewers of the advertisements they can claim, which translates into a steady revenue. -
I have a friend who has been using Vonage for his phone service for over a year now and loves it. Since he pays for broadband already, it is cheaper for him to subscribe to Vonage than buy regular phone service. Plus, with Vonage you get nationwide (US) long distance at no extra charge, which is not the case with plain old telephone service (POTS).Another thing - my friend recently moved from one small town to a city 60 miles away. He disconnected his Vonage hardware from his broadband connection in the small town and reconnected it in the city. Without contacting Vonage or making any major changes to his home network, he was able to make and receive calls at his new address. It's conceivable that a person could take the Vonage gear and connect it anywhere in the world to a broadband connection and make calls anywhere in the US from that location for nothing more than the monthly Vonage charge of $25 USD (although my friend hasn't tried that yet). And the voice quality is every bit as good as that of POTS.I give Vonage a thumbs up!

I would invest 1/3 of it in mutual funds, put the other 1/3 into various business ventures I've been wanting to start, and mix the last 1/3 between spending on travel and buying up beach front real estate around the world.

I found it via Google somehow by looking for free hosting.

The very term "cheating" means that someone is trying to deceive someone else. Regardless of whether the other person knows or not, the person doing the cheating is further depraving himself and destroying his own conscience. If someone has an open relationship with another in which they both agree to mess around with other people, at least the relationship is honest. But it still may not be healthy.

What You Like? What would you like to see...
goldinero replied to tuddy's topic in Science and Technology
I'd like to see workable gravity-based propulsion systems invented that allows a person to feel no g-forces when the aircraft he rides accelerates, turns, or stops. I'd like to see our money system changed so anyone could exchange goods and services with anyone else in the world without taxation, inflation, or interest. I would change the world by eliminating pollution and debt if I had the influence and resources to do it. -
I read somewhere that many Americans are sleep deprived (get less than 8 to 9 hours of sleep per night) and in negatively affects their health and performance. So I try to get at least 8 hours of sleep each night. If I don't, I make up for it on weekends. :-)
