  1. Well the former name of asp.net was asp+ and since they can't use + in the extension they thought "lets put x instead of +, they look similar" or something along that line, so they put added in 'x' to the original .asp extension...also if you noticed, many ASP.NET pages in the microsoft website end with the extension '.mspx' which indicates that the server is configured to parse the code in .mspx file the same way they were supposed to do with normal .aspx files...so .aspx is not really the true file extension of asp.net, as with some configuration you can tell the server to parse files with different extensions as normal ASP.net files...for example if you don't have php installed, I think you can even have the server parse files with .php extensions as asp.net files...if the code in them is that of asp.net that is ...
  2. Are you hosted yet? If you are, then why is your post count only 1? I'm moving this topic to the General Questions forum...

  4. This is sorta offtopic, but what compiler are you using?? And is Jikes a good compiler? Sorry I'm new to java and haven't even downloaded a compiler yet and help would be appreciated ...
  5. If there is a manufacturing defect on your LCD screen then I think you should contact your Vendor. In 2001, I bought a Dell Inspiron 4100 laptop and it had a manufacturing defect. There was a blurry spot at the top but it wasn't too annoying, but one day my monitor gave out a white screen and shut itself off. Luckily I still had one year's guarantee left with Dell so I had it fixed. If something similar has happened to your laptop and your guarantee hasn't expired yet, I suggest turning your laptop in and let them fix it or give you another laptop. Ofcourse you can just detach the Hard Disk and other stuff and just give the body of the laptop along with the monitor and then attach them again when they return the laptop ...but if you want to clean your laptop screen, normal cloth won't do, if you're not careful you can damage the laptop. Don't use tissue paper either. Just like dissipate said, use SOFT cloth, it can be either normal or anti-static, but anti-static is recommended. You have to take some mild liquid detergent and mix it with a small amount of alcohol and put them on the soft cloth and then rub the screen with the cloth. Alcohol is not really needed, and I don't recommend it as it might prove harmful in some cases.
  6. There are a lot of alternatives, but I personally use 4 at once ...I use the following:1.) Ad-Aware SE Professional 1.042.) Spy Sweeper 3.0 Professional3.) Pest Patrol Corporate Edition V.???4.) Spybot Search and Destroy 1.3
  7. Cool honmore. Thats a really awesome calendar. Anyways another good javascript resource website is http://www.javascriptsource.com/ they have tons of cool scripts like javascript screensavers, "compressing" text etc..
  8. Oh, then its most probably 6.8...Php-Nuke 7.4 isn't free but I have it on my computer, the full version, and I can't get it to work on my site anyway...Many problems, but my friend can get it to work just fine...I hate PHP Nuke 7.4...
  9. Well honmore, none of them is "the best"...both have their strengths and weaknesses, pros and cons, advantages and disadvantages. So its best to go with what you can script best with but its always a bit biased. When a company declares they offer ASP support, and they don't explicitly declare support for JSP, they probably don't have it, because if they had JSP, including it in their features list would surely attract more customers. The same goes for ASP.Net, unless support for it is directly listed, there probably isn't any support for it either. The basis of selection of server side scripting is choosing what you like best or you think is easier or more powerful or what you can script best at. You should also look at its availability and cost-effectiveness. JSP is very expensive and its not worth paying that much to get scripting support for it in my opinion unless you get it free or from a cheap webhost. If you have either a Windows or Linux OS, you can install both ASP or ASP.NET on your computer and install a webserver and deploy your applications to the web for free without any cost. All you need for Windows is IIS Webserver 5.0 and up, and OS Windows 2000 and up. For linux you can get ApacheASP, SunONE-ASP for Linux, Chili!SoftASP - Linux Package for ASP support. They're all apache modules. For ASP.NET support you can get Mono ASP.NET for Linux. Theres a apache module called "mod_mono" for it. For Windows, I don't really know for sure, but I think Visual Studio .NET comes with ASP.Net, atleast my VS .NET does(not so free, eh? lol). Moreover, if you don't want to install these on your computer, there are many free asp hosts on the net. But you have to pay for JSP if you want to use it on your computer. The only site I know that gives JSP for free is Xisto. There may be more, but they may not be as reliable because we would've already known of them by now.Hehe, I don't wanna make this a rant so I'm ending it here. It might be a bit biased, but its only an opinion. But really ASP is more cost-effective than JSP because its free...EDIT 1: Just checked, Mono ASP.NET works with windows too.EDIT 2: Edited some missed letters and added "advantages and disadvantages" to the part at the top ...EDIT 3: Ask for links if you need them...
  10. As an RPG lover, how can I not LOVE Final Fantasy?? My favourite one from the SNES or "classical era" FFs is FF5, the one with Bart, and to a lesser extent FF6, the one with Terra(NOTE: I'm using the "traditional" and "correct" numbering). My favourite, "New Age" FFs are 7-9...FF10 was good but not as good as the others. FFX-2 sucked in my opinion. FFXI sucks too. The advent children movie is bound to *BLEEP*...lets think about the FF12, k? lol... Anyways I even played FF2 and FF3 for the NES, the japanese ones that never got released in the US, no I don't mean the ones with Cecil and Terra, these games are different, they are for the NES...Even though the most primitive and oldest one is FF1, it still ranks #4 in my favourite FF game list...lolBut hell chrono trigger is better than all of them...
  11. This is sort of a stupid question but how do I integrate the MASM Assembler(ml.exe) that comes with Visual C++ .NET with it?? I really wanna use the Visual C++ IDE for the MASM thing and all my friends say that they can do it with VC++ .NET and I wanna compile with too plz help :S....
  12. You can get both free and open-source compilers/assemblers for programming languages such as Java, Fortran, Logo, Modula-2, Modula-3, ASM, etc. at http://www.compilers.net/. Both free and commercial compilers can be found there and almost all of them are excellent... They also have some extra stuff and good links Hope this helps...
  13. There's a glitch in PHP Nuke 7.4, that causes users to experience difficulties with the security code thing...otherwise its a configuration problem or GD library problem...I suggest you visit http://www.karakas-online.de/ or https://www.phpnuke.org/ for help...
  14. You can use only certain HTML tags, and you can edit which ones you will allow. And depending on your version of PHP-Nuke, you have a limited number of HTML tages to use....Hope this helps ...
  15. I'm a bit concerned about the recent influx of spammers into our forums. Many people who register here don't even read the rules and keep on spamming and make useless and meaningless posts. Moreover, they copy things from other places and post them here to raise their post count. If anyone has read our Rules and Regulations before posting, they would've already known that we do not approve 'HOW TOS' and 'TUTORIALS' copied from elsewhere. But sadly, the majority of those who sign up here are insincere, and never bother reading the Rules. I have seen many people making spam posts which I delete whenever I spot them here. These are considered 'minor administrative moderations' so we don't issue warnings for those. But whenever I confirm that someone has copied something from another site and posted here, at first sight, I only close/delete/disapprove the topic and send the person a PM. But if it is a repeated offense, I usually issue a warning along with a PM stating the reason that the person was warned. Moreover, many people are complaining about their post count not increasing even after they post. We have CLEARLY stated that your post count will only increase if you post helpful, beneficial and non-plagiarised material in the 'Contribute' category of our forums. If I catch people plagiarising other people's writing from elsewhere, and if it is a repeated offense, I will suspend that person for a few hours, or disable him from posting for a few hours...If it is a more serious or intended offense like in the cases of people like 'Killer' and 'Xavierduan', you have to face a greater penalty. If you feel you have been unjustly warned please send the Admin, OpaQue, a Private Message. Those who are honest posters, though, will have nothing to worry. If you are incorrectly warned, contact either me, mastercomputers or OpaQue. Keep on posting and contributing . I request everyone to give me a shout at the shoutbox if a topic with plagiarised material is spotted, or if you suspect it to be plagiarised, I will get to investigating it as soon as I can, and please if it is possible, provide a link. Oh, and no hoaxes, PLEASE...
  16. Actually Wizzywig is wrong, the creators of google, Sergey Brin and Larry Page are not British...Serget Brin is from Russia and Larry Page is well...American...Whats so British in them??? Even their CEO(Chief Executive Officer), Eric Schmidt isn't British...
  17. Theres this online art community called deviantart that has many kinds of art and flash there...they have reviews, news, previews, etc...I've seen some members of this community who have subdomains on http://www.deviantart.com/, its not like hosting, its like a profile page...my question is, how do I get stuff like that? I'm not a member of DeviantART by the way, but I'm interested in becoming one if I can get a subdomain without subscribing to them...
  18. Well I bought a few domains including straven.name and volume.cc...I wanted to buy lamer.tv but I don't qualify for it since I have no tv channel and I don't broadcast anything on tv ...um...yay?? :PBTW nice avatar grrlfromoz
  19. Well for webpages and such I use a blend of Visual C++ .NET, Dreamweaver MX/Frontpage XP and notepad. I do php and asp coding in VC++ .NET, and if I'm feeling too lazy I use either Dreamweaver MX or Frontpage XP(the one for windows xp lol), but Dreamweaver MX is somewhat better than Frontpage so I use that mostly...If I'm just making normal HTML pages, I just open trusty old notepad and start writing on it ....as for images, who else to remember than our old pal Photoshop CS? lol ...
  20. Well done :S......These things are a bit complicated, so I almost never bother with these...I might try to understand it later. But other than HTML(of which I can also just put "red" or "white" to produce that color), what modern practical use does it have??? Please I'm just curious...
  21. I'm a faithful Microsoft Windows vet, and I admit Linux is good for a server, but in my opinion, any of the BSD Unixes beat linux in every way...well maybe some versions are not so user friendly but in terms of stability and usefulness, BSD is better...the most stable servers on the 'net are hosted on BSD-based machines, even though the majority of the servers on the 'net are hosted on Linux...The only "bad" version of Unix is SCO-Unix, very buggy and unstable....
  22. Awesome, Triple X! Why do you think its crappy?? Its better than any sig I can ever dream up...lol
  23. Cool! Another trigun fan! Anyway I like the trigun sig so its my personal opinion that you should use the trigun one....
  24. Haha, very funny indeed lol...Nice one wassie...I wonder who got this idea first lol... I really need to try it, have you tried it Wassie? I might become good at this because I'm good at soccer...but I *BLEEP* at table tennis so then again who knows
