  1. TCL stands for tool command language. In some way can be use for the same aplications as perl. I used with expect but I have never used with CGI. :-(
  2. Hi,I back up my info on CDs. Then i try to recover it from the CDs. That is the best way to check that the back up proccess was correct.
  3. Hi, I am writing a new thread because the "X does not start" thread was really unconfortable to user due to the width of my first post. My X start as root but not as a normal user. I was googling and i read that i should edit my /etc/X11/Xserver file but i do not have this file there. Does anyone uses Debian and knows where this file is?. However i am still not able to startkde. It continues giving the same error "X does not start thread". Does anyone where are the logs of kde? I only found XFree86.log and kdm.log under the /var/log directory. Can anyone help me?Thanks in advanced,Sergio
  4. Hi, I am using a knoppix 3.3 distro with a 2.4.24 kernel in my box. I tried to install recently KDE 3.3. All the modules are installed ok except of kdebindings and kdewebdev. Both fail due to compilat errors. I upgraded to gcc 4.3 (I had previously gcc 3.4) but they still fail. Here is the kdebindings log: [/br]x_11.cpp: In function `void xcall_KSharedConfig(short int, void*, Smoke::StackItem*)':[br]x_11.cpp:8219: warning: unused variable 'xself'[/br]In file included from libsmokekde_la.all_cpp.cpp:17:[br]x_15.cpp: At global scope:[/br]x_15.cpp:4659: internal compiler error: Segmentation fault[br]Please submit a full bug report,[/br]with preprocessed source if appropriate.[br]See <gcc bugsl> for instructions.[/br]make[4]: *** [libsmokekde_la.all_cpp.lo] Error 1[br]make[4]: Leaving directory `/home/sergio/konstruct/kde/kdebindings/work/kdebindings-3.3.0/smoke/kde'[/br]make[3]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1[br]make[3]: Leaving directory `/home/sergio/konstruct/kde/kdebindings/work/kdebindings-3.3.0/smoke'[/br]make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1[br]make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/sergio/konstruct/kde/kdebindings/work/kdebindings-3.3.0'[/br]make[1]: *** [all] Error 2[br]make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/sergio/konstruct/kde/kdebindings/work/kdebindings-3.3.0'[/br]make: *** [build-work/kdebindings-3.3.0/Makefile] Error 2[br][/br]This is a pre-release version of XFree86, and is not supported in any[br]way. 5. Hi,Using Windows or Linux depends of the type of user you are. If you want your computer to sends mails, play games, surf in the internet, play music and videos Windows can be a good idea. However Linux can make all of these in a really intuitive and easy way. I use Knoppix with KDE and i can make almost everything through the GUI. I mean installing packages. Office staff, playing music, surfing..... Linux is not so complicated like it was before. Now the Linux GUIs are in my opinion better that the Windows ones. Moreover Linux is better for Web development, Programming, server applications ... and you will not suffer all the Windows viruses. Also, you can use Messenger also in Linux (with programs like Kopete or Gaim which include the msn plug in). To sum up, Linux is as easy to use as Windows. I think that the problem of Linux is that there are not good games for it. And gaming industry is really important and make a lot of users stay with Windows. I have Windows and Linux in different partitions. I use Linux for everything but if i want to play any Online Game i change to Win. About the distro's i tried Red Hat, Suse and Knoppix. The one which i am more happy is Knoppix. Give it an opportunity!!
  6. Hi,I use gcc in my job to compile c++. Remeber there are also really good free programming graphical interfaces in linux such as kdevelop or kcscope and debbugers such as gdb. It is alsways a good moment to move into linux. If you like programming or if you want to be programmer windows is not the best Operating System for your needs. However Visual Net or Visual C++ are also really good environment. I used both i was quite happy with them. Bye
  7. Hi, I coded my own Guestbook with php and mysql. Take a look to it in one of my sites grazasmus. It is simple, quickly and easy to customize for your needs. If anyone is interested on the code tell me and i will post it. I use CSS, XHTML, PHP and Mysql.
  8. It is cool. I like the idea. Maybe i use it for my own.I would not change the mouse pointer in the links and for the rest is ok. I think also that the navigagtion is ok. I do not think a navigation bar is needed. Remember that a site like yours (one root and 6 childs without succesors) can be usede easily without navigation bar. Knowing that the back button is the most used in a browser i do not think any user will need a nav bar in your site.

In my opinion Perl is better in string manipulation. It is really powerful language when writting scripts.

    Php Tutorials

I learned directly from the PHP offical site. Go there and visit the introductory tutorial. When you learn a bit you will be able to find the function you need right there using the search engine.
  11. Hi,I programmed my first page in notepad. But Notepad is a unpowerful editor. Now is the time you have to decide between using vi or emacs. A decision which every programmer or developer has to make in his life. . Both emacs and vi are cross-platform. I mean you can use them under windows too. However i discoverd Kate the other day. It is an editor for linux in kde and is pretty cool.Good luck with the editor choose.
  12. The purple sucks. I would recommend you a color schema for the whole site like the grey one of your side bar. Also you should not use undeline text which is not clickable. Underlying text has the affordance of clickability. When you change the site let us know. .
  13. I saw:Santa MaradonaIt is an Italian movie. I liked a lot. It is not an American movie and sometimes this kind of European fresh cinema is a pleasure.
  14. Hi,I use Mozilla Mail. I download all the mail and save it in my local folder. I have a lot of mails around 1000. I want to back up all my mails and burn them into a CD. All the mails go to a local folder where they are saved into a msf file and a file without extension. For example Sent.msf and Sent for my Sent Folder. I do not know i have to copy only all those files and that would be enough. I mean i would have all my mail in 9 big files but Would I be able to browse them again with Mozilla Mail or anther application. Another alternative is to copy mail by mail with a txt extension but i would take me too much time. If any of you back up Mail and have any suggestion it would be appreciated. mfg,Sergio
  15. I am already hosted. I have my personal site already up and i will host also a car-photos site and a fun-community site as soon as i upgrade my account.
  16. It is similar to Xisto. Has it something to do with it or it is another forum site? I mean if i post there will it count for my trap stadistics?
  17. I want to have a counter in my site but i would like to have it only increased everytime the user enters my homepage at the first time. I mean if i user goes to a subsection of my site and clicks the back button coming back to the home page i do not want the counter to be increased again (with Roly's counter the counter will be increased). I think the solution will be to create a counter which interacts with sessions or something like that. Does anyone has a counter which works as i explained? Thanks in advance.Sergio
  18. I really think that signatures should be in plain text only. It is for me annoying to read post (around 2 lines) with incredible with signatures composed of big big banners. Allowing signatures with Flash would be even worst.
  19. Yeap, I always tried to put good ALT attribute to my images in my sites to provide a feeback to the people who can not see the images (maybe an error in my page, maybe they browse without images on porpouse). I think everyone should use the ALT attribute. However i did not know about its important with Search Engines. Another question: What meta-Tags are important in a Web site? I use already the Meta "keywords" and "description". Which do you use? Thanks for the information.
  20. When i want to delete my files i connect with the ftp command through console:login: your loginpassword: your passwdOnce your are log in (you can use several commands):"ls" will list your remote files"cd folder" will change your remote folder"delete file" will delete the chosen fileand so on Do not heasitate to use the ftp command and you will not need to use any other programm. 21. Hi, I uploaded my files with ftp to my www folder and it works. Is it the same to upload into the public_html folder than to the www folder?Or both?
  22. Hi,Mother language: SpanishI speak also: German English Italian
  23. Hi, I do not like Pop us. I think most of the people hate them and i think that using them in a forums site will be a big fail. They will put away a lot of people. I think you took the correct decision admin.
  24. What does SEO stands for? Search engine .... What do you mean with "web gold"?. I thought that the criteria for Google was incoming links, outgoing links and meta-tags. Aren't they?
  25. Hi, I learned with Tutorials in internet. http://www.selfhtml.org/ is the best in my opinion. The only thing is that it is in German but is really, really good. I will recommend you to begin to code without using any programm such as frontpage. Write straight html and verify it always with w3c (correct code help everybody). You will learn what are you doing and for sure you will learn better than using FrontPage or whatever.
