Sleep An important factor for many things.
Jonnyabc replied to longtimeago's topic in Health & Fitness
Zagubadu, by your profile picture you don't look too good...you've either been lyin' around a bit too lot or not enough...Sorry, couldn't help myself. As far sleep, it ranges from one person to the next, but you can survive on 5 hours of sleep if necessary (but don't plan to make great choices or have fast reflexes next day). This I know from personal experience.I have a professor who's "up there" in age who can survive on only an hour or two a night (she requires a strong cold medicine to knock herself out for additional hours). At the same time, there are also those who have narcolepsy and can fall asleep on asdj;lfka pioqewp......Oh sorry, for the typo...I guess I took a nap (no offense to people with narcolepsy or similar disorders). And as far as I am aware of, there's nothing in the Bible that states that we have to sleep a number of hours at night...the closest verse I can even think of that comes anywhere close to that (which really isn't) is something close to, "This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God," John 3:19-21. -
I thought it important to note the death of the Georgian, Nodar Kumaritashvili, Olympic luge player who died on the luge track in Canada. He was taking a route down the track on the opening day of ceremonies, on a practice run only hours before the big celebration.I'll leave it for the rest of you to comment, but I ask that you be respectful...

Ok...If I could find the right terminology, I might be able to figure this out on my own, but I can't seem to find anywhere how to make this very popular method work? I've only just started using PHP (the concept wasn't hard to learn, it was figuring out how to make it run on my computer). Anyways...so what I want to do is understand how websites use http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. I know that ASP(X) commonly utilizes this, but it is also true that PHP does too. For a general example of what I am talking about, YouTube uses the GET method to identify their video (i.e. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/). It is my educated guess that the script (PHP) accesses the database (mySQL), which stores the HTML code. You use the get method to send and receive the primary key of the page. The concern I have is that HTML code consists of many characters, including: ", <, >, &, #, etc (not including return characters). How do I convert/store this data, if my "educated guess" is correct? Otherwise, disregard this paragraph and tell me the solution. Keep in mind I pretty much know or understand PHP and mySQL logic/code, and if not, I'll figure it out or ask later, so don't feel that you have to go into a long dragged out explanation for me on that end. Thanks!

True Holograms / Holographs Production costs?
Jonnyabc replied to Jonnyabc's topic in Science and Technology
I know you can "see" it from 10 feet away...what I am asking is, how easy is it to CREATE a hologram that is "virtually" 10ft? We're looking at a simple box or cube that extends from the source. If that is what you mean by: ...then yes. I really do not want a "projector". It would not be unlike the World Trades Center tower lights that they display at night on 9/11, except that this is see-able in broad daylight. I want to mount a hologram in an outdoor environment that consists of a single holographic box (or column), no more than 2ft x 2ft x 2ft, that extends about 10 ft away from the photo source. Don't know if that makes sense, and if it does, what I'm trying to accomplish from it...this is no ordinary driver's license hologram...but my idea would have a useful purpose, not an ornamental one. -
Got a question, whether it pertains more or less to shopping versus science and technology, but nevertheless, I am interested in finding something out. I don't want to give away any details as to the project/product I am working on, but here are the general specifics.1) I want to know if a holograph could be made that extends a good 10 feet way from it's source.2) Can holograms withstand typical outdoor weather conditions?3) If the source of a hologram is covered with a protective shielding, and has water or oil on its surface, will it still produce an image (even if it is slightly warped due to the liquid)?4) Can a standard hologram be manufactured (where each hologram is identical) with these specifications, at a low price, such as $10 or less (not including excess parts)? Thanks!

Google Buzz...it's creating quite a stir for Google fans...from what I hear, it's making them stir-crazy to have it in Gmail.Buzz is the newest feature that Google is pulling out of their hat. Resembling the news feed one might find on a social community site, such as Facebook, you can add from several services to view on your Buzz, such as Twitter, Flickr, Picasa, YouTube, Blogger, and Google Reader. Share with your fellow "Googlie" friends and see their updates.Personally, I don't care one way or another...it's just another feed page to me, not dissimilar to Yahoo! Profiles for the Yahoo! followers out there. Does it rightly matter whether it's there or not in our mailbox, even if we aren't using it? What do you think?

The pitiful part is that few of the senators even know the constitution. No wonder they to pass laws that aren't supposed to even arise.

What does everyone think about the new Sherlock Holmes movie? I myself have not seen it, though I am a HUGE fan of the original (book) series. When you reply to this, please specify if this is pretty much the first time you've seen or heard of Sherlock Holmes, or if you are a big of a fan of it as I am.

My favorite television series? If I am allowed to pick between a few different genres, I would have to say Scarecrow & Mrs. King, Macgyver, and Stargate: SG1. Obviously, it's not hard to tell that I very much enjoy action packed shows, but this isn't all true either. But yes, these are my favorite. If I had to chose between them, it would be very difficult for me.

First, let me say that you will obviously want to learn chords. I would recommend that you start in the key of G. For this key, you will use three primary chords: G, C, and D (or D7). We'll call the G the "first chord", C the "second chord", and D(7), the "third chord" Practice these (C-G-D). Although it may seem dumb and even degrading, "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" are FANTASTIC starters. "Mary Had a Little Lamb" will start you off with G and D(7). After you master those two chords, add in C with "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". Eventually, these three chords will become easy for you to learn and will allow you to add more chords to them. At this point in your learning it will be time to scope out to other great things...try playing the same songs in other keys. In the key of G Major you have the three chords C-G-D. If you play in the KEY of C, your CHORDS will be F-C-G, and alternatively, if you play in the key of D, your chords will be G-D-A. The reason I put the letters in this order is to show you that each key that you play is only off by one chord: F-C-G-D-A-E-B. You play any key in the range of C-G-D-A-E, all the Major chords are there. Not only will you want to learn chords in the Major keys, but the Minor keys as well. E Minor (initialized Em) is the chord that corresponds with the key of G Major. Em uses Am (A Minor) and B(7), so Am-Em-B. As you can see, this still follows the F-C-G-D-A-E-B format, except this time it is Fm-Cm-Gm-Dm-Am-Em-Bm. Remember that your 'third chord" will NOT be Minor (most of the time). Ok...confused? Let me summarize...in the Major KEY of G, you will play the CHORDS G, C, and D(7). Along with those, you should learn the related Minor KEY of E, you will play the CHORDS Em, Am, and B(7). If we wanted to play in the KEY of C, the six chords would be C, F, and G(7), and Am, Dm, and E(7). If you are saying that you don't think you can learn left-handed, that's a misconception. I AM LEFT HANDED. In all reality, I think the guitar is better made for the lefties, because there's a lot more skill level, initially, that must go into coordinating your fingers into a chord. The advantage of righties is that they are better at picking. However, if instead you wish to play with a left-handed guitar, IT IS NO DIFFERENT THAN A REGULAR GUITAR, EXCEPT FOR ONE THING: The strings are reversed. The advantage that you would have by learning it this way is that you will look at someone playing a chord as if you were looking into a mirror instead of sitting next to the person. The huge disadvantage is that you will have to look at chord charts and think about it before you can play it that way. Another problem is if you do not have your guitar with you, because it is difficult to play the same piece on both hands (but not impossible). Hope this helps both of you! Let me know if I'm making sense and can tell you any more! Remember, anyone can show you how, but you have to be the one who finally does it.

If the admins and moderators have seen my last post, or so, I am asking questions about Xisto's and Xisto's forum organization. Java and JavaScript (preferably not "Java Script") have been well identified as completely different entities (except that they use similar naming conventions) on this forum. So why are we combining them into a single forum?I took Java this last semester in college, and I will say that JavaScript is nothing as far complicated as Java is...unless you're proficient at Java, for web developers out there be glad that for the most part most websites don't depend on Java code. It gave me more respect for the other languages that I have already learned.

Although I have been aware of PHP for a long time now, it was not until I got onto Xisto's forum (Xisto's partner site) that I found a link to a program, WAMP (or WampServer) that allows me to operate PHP from home.Huzzah! This is the program I've been waiting for someone to tell me about! Now I can enjoy coding in PHP to my heart's content!
-
WAMP...thank you SO MUCH!!! You wouldn't believe the roadblocks I've faced. I've been desperately wanting to learn PHP for some time now, but never could get it to run on my PC. I figured I would learn something about it in college, but to no avail, and no one I seemed to know could give me any clear answer on this. Now I have another language to have fun with, and maybe soon you'll see the newest Facebook site with yours truly as the author!

Also, don't forget to check out Xisto.com...AstaHost's other forum site. It's very similar to Xisto, and is automatically connected when linked, except that the forum caters to a slightly different crowd.

Mycents (a Question For An Admin) Is it really automated?
Jonnyabc replied to Jonnyabc's topic in Web Hosting Support
interesting idea conducting an experiment...only problem is if I try too hard, I may be flagged as spam if I don't post something relevant (they ought to create a separate non-moderated section in the forum for testing out the site). I know exactly what you mean. I can see him too, burning the candle late into the night slaving over the code. And I totally agree that it's programming genius! Wonder if he's hiring any time soon?...that's too much to hope for. I should have noted when I wrote this that the script could easily tally up the words and calculate a percentage (or bell curve) to determine how many varieties of words are used. Although unlikely, who's to say whether or not OpaQue uses a database of words and each word is rated by popularity. Words like "a" and "the" are very popular. So if you make a single thread that would include an entire paragraph consisting of a single word over and over again, that word's percentage is 100%. This in turn would earn you very few points compared to if you were to list in a paragraph all of the words starting with the letter "q" in the alphabet. -
I guess the title pretty much describes the problem...you've got a spelling issue. Whether or not this post goes here anyways, I thought I mention that you ought to change the name!

I'd be interested to learn more about myCents. It sounds like it is a programmed system, and if it is, I would love to learn more about it! Being partial to programming myself, I would understand if I'm not let in on the company secrets, but a better understanding of how my posts are rated would be helpful (the length of a post makes sense, but how easily does a computer rate quality?).

I Am A Tumble Weed Old Country/Western Style (with Chords)
Jonnyabc replied to Jonnyabc's topic in Art & Creativity
Why, thank you very much! I appreciate the comment. By the way, I can't read music either, but chords are easy enough to figure out. -
I know you read my previous article on Google Wave, so yes, I know that one. The other two escape me though, (Linux Ubuntu One because I'm not as much of a Linux guy as I can tell you are). There's only so much that I can mention in an article, and it seemed like I would be repeating too many things if I did. The article was long enough (to write) today as is...what more do you want? Ha, ha.

RESPECTFULLY, here's the deal: you're documentation on the Readme and TOS is terrible (also, have you checked the links out recently, such as the "Topics You Should Never Make"?). I'm not a simpleton, nor am I an English teacher nor a lawyer, but this is completely unintelligible reading. Yeah, I know, I'm only one person with a level 1 rank, so what can I do to persuade you? I'm worried someone's going to flag me for doing something I'm not supposed to do (or what they think I'm not supposed to do), but who's to say I'm actually in the wrong? I'm trying to be an upstanding individual on this forum, so please bear with me. Questions: Does my post have to be original to Xisto? I wrote some articles that are on my personal website that I would like to use on Xisto (and I would be citing nothing in the published articles about the website that would be considered promotional). Will this count against me? And at the same time, are we also verifying that I cannot export what I write on Xisto to the internet? If you follow what your own rules say, since I am the author I own the copyright to the materials until 50 years after my death, so I should be able to copy it wherever, whether through text or by mouth, so long as I am not using it in any criminal conduct by law (or by the rules of Xisto, which I do not see prohibits my freedom). In the "moderated" areas of the forum, does this mean that I must wait for approval before my post can be made public, or are they "moderated" as time passes? And does this include future edits? I ask because I don't want to wind up double posting by accident. My signature contains a link and an image (both of which are my own creation). Is this wrong? I know the rules stated that we cannot use "resume signatures", but please elaborate. I notice none of the admins or moderators shy away from including websites, images and other links in their signatures. Obviously, I am not including my "real" name, or any other contact information (aside from what might be found through the link(s)). Speaking of signatures and links, I'm not sure what is considered to be advertisement. Obviously promoting your (or another company's) website by using obvious means of click here's to get people to visit their site is against the rules. I also just read about referrals. How does that fit into the picture when we are giving a link to an outside source for informational purposes? Who makes that decision, the moderators? Since we're on the topic of moderators, is there a place to make an appeal if the need should ever arise, either to that moderator or another? Here in the Questions and Queries is the closest I can guess? It states that admins and moderators have final say, but there could be times when they are in the wrong (whether intentionally or not). What is this about inactivity? It says I have to log in once every week and post once every other week? Relating to the last question, if my account is finally banned or inactivated in the end, what happens to my host account? Especially if I've paid for it with real money! Surely you won't close the account, and how will I regain my domain name, if I have to transfer it from another service? That should be enough questions to ask...like I said, I read the documentation, but it's worded poorly in my book. Don't waste my time to waste yours if there's a fair chance of getting banned (which seems likely when you don't make it easy enough to understand the rules).

I was already ready to reply to the first post to tell you that I remembered seeing it somewhere before. I admit though that I do not remember Google having such a nice orderly website area dedicated to their logos though. Did you notice the subtle theme for Christmas (2009) with the growing post cards?

No offense, but I wrote this article to discuss Google Wave and see what people thought of it. In all pursuits, Google Buzz is fine too, but my interests were focused on Wave. If we want to talk about Buzz, let's start another topic.
