How Do I Disable Text Input Control In Vb 2008? Menu Driven APP In vb 2008
Jonnyabc replied to lfc1825's topic in Programming
This sounds like a homework assignment. I often tutor students who need help at my school in computers and some programming languages, so this is perfect. In fact, I was JUST doing that this evening with a gentleman from my school). Anyways...sounds like a fairly simple. All you need to do to disable a text field (and if you had researched it at all, you should have found it easy). It's: txtYourTextBoxName.enabled = true OR txtYourTextBoxName.enabled = false depending upon which you want it to do at the time. -
Wow...well it took a long time to go through them all, but those are some interesting facts (some of them I knew already). Good to know not to get near a hippo when it's got red sweat...I have to remember that next time I'm around one (which is a laugh).I thought the muscles in humans vs. caterpillars, the Goliath Beetle, and the killer coffee were interesting.

Actually, guys, this program is still very useful. Here's the scenario: You own two PCs at home (for argument's sake, one desktop and one laptop). Instead of wasting a lot of bandwidth over your network, thus slowing your connection speed down, you can operate two PCs with little bandwidth. Why do you want this program? Because if you've got your two PCs side-by-side anyways, you may as well make it easier to sync between them. Also, I don't remember exactly, but I think it'll sync the clipboard and allow drag and drop of files between them. And unlike a remote desktop program, you can set up as many PCs/monitors as you please (you configure the monitor positions in the settings). Say you now have three computers (two desktops, one laptop), each with two monitors. You can set them up in a 2 x 3 grid so that you can move from one monitor to another, regardless of the PC.Anyways...just trying to make it sound a bit better than what my first reply may have alluded to.

Php Mail() Special Charaters How do I parce them correctly?
Jonnyabc replied to Jonnyabc's topic in Programming
Thanks....I'll see if that takes care of the trick. I guess I should have known/remembered that. -
I've been trying a free one called aTube Catcher ( http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ ). I would also recommend looking into Zamzar ( http://www.zamzar.com/ ), a free online converting service that will convert just about anything and everything for you.

You make a website...so far so good. You create a feedback page...so far so good. You put a form on the page for users to submit responses back to. Only one problem, and I quote. Yes, the quotes, whether the single ' or the double " as well as the backslash \, these special characters don't \'appear\' "too\" well when they are received \\ read in an email. I have already tried htmlentity() as follows: $Message = htmlentities($_REQUEST["Message"]); However, I still receive the incorrect characters. Mind you, I do not want to see " any more than I want to see \" (the latter being more acceptable of the two anyways). I just want to my email to come out correctly when it's sent. There's probably an easy answer to it, but I'm too lazy at this point to try and mess with it any more.

My Granddad uses this program and thinks it's really worth the while. It's a nice alternative to switching between mice...keep in mind that this is not a replacement for remote desktop software...it does not bring the screen to your current screen, but simply the mouse. It's a nifty program though if you want dual/quad/etc monitor support but don't have the hardware or resources to run it (the other nice thing is that you're actually running it on separate machines, which means that you don't have just one computer that can lock up the monitors at one time).I am yet to find a need for it with just one PC currently, but I have no doubt I could be using it in the near future.

Is There Life Anywhere Else On The Universe ?
Jonnyabc replied to red_dragon_here's topic in Science and Technology
I don't believe that there is INTELLIGENT life beyond the moon (and I say moon because that is the furthest distance from the earth that man has yet traveled). As far as life, in itself, yes, I believe there is always a chance that you can find some bacteria, but as far as how much life, I'd rather say the chances are slim.Do aliens exist, as it is often asked? I won't deny the fact if I met one, but it is my stance that they do not. Nevertheless, I'm just as much of a Star Trek / Stargate / Star Wars fan as the next sci-fi admirer. But that's why it's still called Science FICTION and not Science FOR REAL.However, you will not except this fact merely on what I have just said. You want facts and answers. Naturally, I'm not an omnipotent or can even begin to understand the basics of the universe. However, I can say that the likelihood is very insignificant.Had the earth been in a different orbit than the one it is in, even just by the slightest degree, life on earth could not exist. The sun would either be too hot or too cold. Take our nearest planets, such as Mars. As close as Mars is, the world is too cold for life to exist. Ok, if we all had blue blood and green skin, maybe, but fewer people believe in martians these days. Had we been to Venus, it would have been unbearably hot.The thing is, the earth is at just the right distance. Using the sun as another factor, we can see that it is unique too. The sun is a very, very small star. All scientists will agree with that. Watch any video demonstration of this, and you will see stars that easily engulf even the earth in its diameter (some span the entire width of our solar system). Not only is the size of our sun significant, but so is the type of star. There are two primary stars out there, red and blues. Red stars, such as that of our own, is red, but not all are. Blue stars exist within the universe, but there is one flaw to them: they're too bright. Unlike red stars, blue stars are so bright, they are blinding, so if indeed life does exist elsewhere, they're literally blind to the fact that there's a universe bigger than they could ever imagine. These are only a few of the many factors involved in the wondrous universe. Evolutionists will tell you that stars have been around millions and billions of years, but find out the maximum length that (blue) stars can survive since infancy and you will find that it is impossible for them to have survived this long. Two atoms just happened to collide? 2 million DNA strands just happened to form over night to create basic life on a planet that just happens to be exactly in the right spot in the solar system and not close enough to a black hole? And that life just happened to turn into a SINGLE race of apes that could develop beyond their daily existence (and no trace of any current transformations)? Too chancy for me.Perhaps a God does indeed exist? Perhaps He did create the universe, every star, every planet, every living creature, and placed them on this earth to grow and multiply? You say God doesn't exist because you do not see him? In an analogy, do computers accept that you created it? Not really: they simply corrupt your data and tell you that you are denied access. You may have created the file, but the computer isn't smart enough to know that...are we any different?Psalm 147:4He counts the number of the stars; He gives names to all of them.5Great is our Lord and abundant in strength; His understanding is infinite. -
Free online java compiler =) no need to download the sun java SDK =)
Jonnyabc replied to Eric Straven's topic in Programming
This was indeed one that I had tried not long ago, and still is in my bookmarks. It was a useful link to keep around when I took my Java class in the fall because you can always edit the code in a simple text editor even when you're not sitting at a computer with some form of a Java compiler installed (which in our case was jGrasp). Can't say that I've enjoyed Java too much, nor have I used this page too many times, but indeed it is a pretty good compiler. Obviously, for privacy sake, it's not the best idea in the world if you don't want someone to steal your code away from you (you can't be certain what the website collects, or that someone isn't intercepting your uploaded code along the way). But if you don't have a large reason to be concerned over that, I would certainly suggest it.The nicest deal about it is the fact that it allows you to upload several files at one time and then download the compiled files from a single zip folder...sweet! -
Based off of the article you posted, it's saying the UNEDITED version will be removed in six months...this means if there is a problem with the EDITED version they will fix it. The EDITED version, which is what you and I see will remain, but if at any time they need to redo something after the firs 6 months, it will be too late.

I love using BrowserShots! One of the top reasons why I do use it is when I am not at my computer checking against Firefox/IE8/Chrome/Safari, etc. The other plus is that not all OSs have the same fonts, so it is also important to check that, along with older versions of browsers (if that matters). You can set it to check as little or as much as you please. And even if you don't think it's necessary, if someone reports an error or issue with the site, it will be much easier to diagnose if you already know about the problem (or can use BrowserShots as part of the diagnosis).

Thanks for posting this! However, while I was sort of aware of this feature, I have thus far tried to steer clear of it because of computability issues. Could anyone please verify if this is (still) true? Last I messed with it was about a year ago, and a lot can change within a year.

How Does One Make A Good Comeback At A Forum? :)
Jonnyabc replied to The Simpleton's topic in General Discussion
I've pretty much just started on this site, even though I've been a member for a good year now. I was always told, "Write about what you know," although I sometimes go far and beyond that call of duty (). What would you say at this moment if a friend were to ask you, "What's up?" Anything interesting you've done when your life was calling? From your profile you seem interestingly a lot like me...majoring in computers, love to write, and you do web design/development! -
Samleeuwenburg's recent "Student Looking for Guidance" idea of a PHP (MMO)RPG sounds great, but a lot of work with logistics. I on the other hand want to take on a project that involves a lot of work with databases. Instead of a game, I would like to create a Facebook/MySpace like community site...for educational fun nothing else. Obviously I've been trying to determine the best forum software out there to use, but I still really don't care for the ones out there...besides, even though everyone can use a forum, there are a lot more people who probably use social sites.I'm not planning on anything really fancy...nothing with a lot of drag-and-drop features, or apps just yet. It'll start off with a simple environment and I'll see where it heads from there...I actually would like to make a free social site package when I'm done, similar to what free forum packages are like, so that people like you can have it...I'm sure they're out there too, but for whatever the reason, they aren't as popular as forum software. The last stipulation is that I make it in a modular design, so that you can customize certain files to your heart's content, and (rarely) never have to worry that an update would reset any of the conditions you've made...at least that's the goal. We'll see when it's all said and done...in another 10 years when the internet will be no longer (I'm waiting for someone to say, "Oh, and where did you hear that? " Disclaimer: The opinions expressed by Jonnyabc may not necessarily conform to the rest of the world.)Comments, concerns, questions? Want a free job? You never know what great things may come of it .

This post might be slightly off topic to your original question, but here it goes.I've been frantically trying to write inquires such as this for the last two weeks (when I decided to get started utilizing Xisto). Don't feel too bad if you have to ask a bunch of questions, or if you get agitated initially because something doesn't seem to be going right. It'll all makes sense a couple of weeks into it!As long as you get to know a few of the popular folk here, such as jlhaslip, BuffaloHelp, anwiii, Soviet Rathe--just to name a few that I have begun to correspond with, particularly over the Shoutbox--you will have a better / fun time, and because people know your personality, there's (hopefully) less of a chance that you will be warned or banned if they know that you are simply ignorant to a rule, rather than lazy and unobliging.

A Forum For...um, My Website? Discuss stuff, people
Jonnyabc replied to Jonnyabc's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Thanks for noting potential security threats, although I think I'll stick with phpBB anyways. Yes, I do like editing the code myself, so MODDing won't be a big deal for me (I just have to take some extra time out of my schedule to do it). My primary concern now is customization...any clues on how updates work? I mean, if I change the code in, say, the index.php, will that revert back when I update install an update (and is this the case in all forum packages)? Also, I'm trying to figure out what is or is not acceptable...I'm still trying to determine what they require me to keep in the code, such as the footer with the link to the package's site? Can't seem to determine (unless it is in the code itself) where the policies state that, if at all. -

Jonnyabc replied to Jonnyabc's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Wow...thank you guys. Didn't expect to get a swarm of new replies when I woke up! I installed BOTH phpBB and SMF last night on my website. I'm going to have to play with them a bit longer before I make any decision, but at the moment I'm leaning more towards phpBB, since they give you a TON of options in the admin area. At the moment they are residing at jl-ectronics.com/forum1/ and jl-ectronics.com/forum2/. Both were fairly easy to install (especially after watching this and this). The only issue I am having (at least with phpBB) is creating a custom theme, as it appears they don't allow you to simply create one from scratch in admin controls. But I can likely figure that out on my own (if not, there's always Xisto!). Thanks again! -

Jonnyabc replied to Jonnyabc's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Sounds like phpBB or SMF is the way to go then! I'd like to find something that is easy enough to use, but at the same time, very customizable to the source level, and preferably resides (or appears to reside) on my website. I've been looking at myfreeforum.org and forumotion.com, but they reside on an external website.Watched a couple videos on YouTube to help me figure out how they work...both semi-intuitive in different ways. I'm actually considering trying both phpBB and SMF them out at the same time and then discarding the one I don't care for...think that's smart, or a bit dumb, as far as attempting to install two at the same time (in different directories and different databases, obviously)? -

Thanks OpaQue! How do you rank IPS with those? Obviously, it's a $$$ forum, but as far as if it's static (I'm guessing it is for the most part?), features you received that you would not get with phpBB or SMF, and how much rights they've given you to tweak the code (such as being allowed to remove their name from the page footer). -
First, I congratulate myself for not writing another "help me?" question in the Support and Feedback forum. Second, let me suggest (if it is possible) that we change our ranking system slightly so that our members are consistently ranked on both sites? A member who has proven himself/herself should have the same high privileges in one forum as is the same in the other forum. The number of posts should also count the same...whether or not you include the myCENTS system or not. That way, I MIGHT NOT have to place 10 all new posts in the slow-going Xisto to be able to access the Shoutbox in there, but that rule is still entirely up to you, OpaQue, since it is meant for a particular group of individuals (computer "geeks").Someone will probably be able to refer me to to ten topics just like this one, but because we are your members and/or customers, it is important that our voices should still be heard. So I end with this: "All for one, and one for all!" Let's make all forum ranks for one and one forum rank for all.

WampServer (or XAMPP) is what you will want for this. Read more on the [a="http://forums.xisto.com/topic/90152-topic/?findpost=1064347555;]Important: Basics Of Using PHP And MySQL[/a] The two of you ought to collaborate on this if you're both heading for the same goad and both need assistance. Oh, and 23 replies isn't as far off now as it was before .

GrSam...I really wouldn't recommend an RPG for an application...besides how difficult it will be and long it will be take to create, a school is more of a business-based company...they want to see a business tool that you could use, not a video game (although that would technically qualify too). It could be as simple as a financial (personal expense) calculator that transfers the data to another page and prints it out pretty. Although I've known HTML, CSS and JavaScript pretty well, I have only now started utilizing PHP, although I knew how it worked before and it comes real easy if you understand basic programming logic, such as what you can do with JavaScript. For a simple tutorial on any primary programming language that utilizes the internet, I always recommend that you start at W3Schools. I use them as both a tutorial and as a reference guide. You could learn a lot from their very basic material alone. For you in particular you should study their PHP and SQL sections. Keep in mind that the SQL section is general...there are several different SQLs out there, such as mySQL and Oracle, but each may have slightly different syntax and/or functions depending upon what you are trying to do. I'd be happy to help get you started, especially if it has to do with the database; it takes a while to understand how multiple tables relate in a single database and how you can obtain information from multiple tables at one time.

Probably is something obvious, but what's the difference between echo and print? Thanks!

Egypt, huh? I'm not much for history, but there is something to Egypt that I think is fascinating. I've never crossed the border of the USA except to visit my cousins in Canada when I was two years old (and I don't count that very much when I don't remember anything about it). So all of my travels consist of places within the country. Below I am listing my favorite place(s), as well as where I definitely want to visit. Favorite places: Wiilamsburg, Virginia. I love the colonial era, and this historical place hits the spot. Thomas Jefferson's Monticello home in Virginia. Yet another sort of colonial era (and area), the home of the third President not only consists of history, but a really fascinating group of systems that shows not only his political skills, but those of ingenuity and ingenuousness in his personal design of the house (although I should save myself an argument hopefully by saying that slavery was not the smartest idea at all). Grand Canyon. Magnificent: colorful, beautiful, big, deep, terrifying, exciting...but it's in my way! (A joke of course.) Need I say anything else about it? Places I want to visit: Washington, D.C. See all of the sites of our nation's capital...at least the ones that are still open and available after 9/11. I'm a very patriotic person (you should see the knickknacks in my room) and so this is my absolute desire. UK. Visiting the cities would be great, but I would especially like to see the beautiful rural areas and different landscapes in all of the provinces, and speak/listen to different people and hear their stories if ever such a chance would arise. I don't expect a story-tale finish to a trip like this, but while I am very patriotic to my own country, I have a lot of Irish, Scottish, English, etc., running through my veins, so naturally I take pleasure to visit my "kin folk" (no matter how far the relation). Top of Mt. Everest. Okay, so this request may be a little too steep (pardon the pun). I actually don't know if I would want to climb it, but to be at the top on a clear day and see the other "low-lying" peaks around it.
