  1. "Why Girls Cry"? simple .... because we can! Cheerie ....
  2. You're absolutely right .... I find it exhausting trying to argue with the "believers" of this world .... it'll never make a blind bit of difference to their ideology or mine, so why expend all that energy? Well, primarily to exchange views, thoughts and feelings .... it's called a healthy debate ....so, back to the thread .... Why are people never satisfied with having only one life? Why does there have to be another one waiting for you when you die? You didn't mind that you never existed before you were born? Why worry that you won't exist after you're death? Can't you just settle for one life? Why so greedy? Someone very close to me died recently after a long and dreadful illness .... I imagine her somewhere, happy and healthy .... I imagine I'll see her again .... I imagine that she's with us all, watching over us .... But I know that what I imagine is fantasy .... it's a comforter, a coping mechanism .... and I can live with that .... that's what an afterlife is to me, it's a human being's coping mechanism for dealing with death and grief and there's nothing wrong with that .... So in answer to the thread question "Why are we here?", I believe we are here to live a life, for as long as we have it .... our legacy is what we leave behind .... some make a bigger mark in life than others, and that's fine .... the way we live on after death is in other people's memories and if you're lucky, we're remembered fondly .... just treasure your life while you have it .... it's a gift ....
  3. Scotland .... 10/10 .... wouldn't want to live anywhere else .... I luv the temperate climate, the history, landscape, shopping .... but most of all I luv the people .... deeply cynical, moderate thinkers with a dry/wicked sense of humour .... majority believe in "live and let live" .... oh, and contrary to popular opinion Scots are a very generous nation, which makes me deeply proud .... on the downside .... drink and footie .... makes folk behave like psychos .... Oh, and can I dispell another popular misconception of Scots .... we don't all run around the Highlands wearing kilts, singing "Roamin' in the Glomin" while stuffin' our faces with haggis .... we leave that nonesense to American tourists .... oooh, only kiddin' guys .... I've taken that too far .... LOL Cheerie ....
  4. Sometimes, financial constraints mean that we don't actually have a choice between the two .... I'd love Dreamweaver .... I'd love a good graphics tool, like maybe Paintshop pro .... I'd love to win millions on the lottery and have a mansion and holiday in the Bahamas .... but it ain't happening .... so it's a bit annoying when people slate Frontpage saying it produces ugly web pages .... I'm acutely aware of the limitations of my website .... so please don't rub it in .... Cheerie ....
  5. I really don't know much about FTP .... all I've been doing is pasting my source code onto notepad and then uploading files from my system to Xisto.... So can I transfer my images from Photobucket onto my system and then upload them onto Xisto? .... but then what do I do with them? you've lost me completely there I'm afraid .... could you make it even more basic?
  6. yes, it's that time again, when I post a thread that shows my complete ineptitude in web design .... as my son often reminds me "some people should never be allowed to touch computers" at which time he usually leaves the room mumbling under his breath .... however, I've now had a few vodkas to get up the courage to embarrass myself, so here goes ..... since transferring my site over from Angelfire, I've wondered if it would be possible to have my graphics, currently hosted by Photobucket, hosted instead by Xisto 'cause they take a devilish amount of time to load up .... I thought it may resolve the problem .... don't ask me why .... now, as usual I have to impress on anyone who is kind enough to post a reply that I am virtually computer illiterate and therefore would appreciate the most basic instruction you can muster .... Cheerie .... ~M~
  7. Well now, let me see .... I have a son whose a couple of years older than you, so yeah, I'd probably say you're young .... and conversely, you'd say I'm old .... and you'd be right! I am in fact, a fossil ....
  8. ooh, I don't think so, most of those countries didn't appreciate being colonised .... and rightly so .... if anything it should have worked against us, not in our favour ....
  9. So then you agree that the image in question was pretty inappropriate in this thread? Great .... I know that my next comments are off the track of this thread, but if you could indulge me a little as I feel I'd like to address the issue raised by the post above .... I live in the Edinburgh area and I can tell you right now that the majority of the local general public give full support to the police as we had to witness first hand the disgraceful behaviour of a loathsome few .... it's a damn shame that the peaceful protest by most of the demonstrators was corrupted by a few neolithic morons out to cause as much trouble as possible, mainly directed at the police, who should surely be allowed to defend themselves while maintaining public order? can I add that the majority of those morons were not Scottish .... and from what we've been led to believe, not part of the organised protest march .... If the protesters at Gleneagles were pushing the boundaries then the police again, have the right to defend themselves and protect the area around the G8 summit. If however, the police were using unnecessay force, then their behaviour is reprehensible and they should be brought to account for it .... anyway .... nough said .... I've veered way off track ..... oops!
  10. Same problem as Artanis, no cpanel access for the past few hours, just a blank page .... do I just do the same and wait it out? My website is still up and running though ....
  11. I'm sure that most Britains welcome your comments .... personally I find them really comforting .... so thank you ..... most of us have family or friends who live in London and yesterday's events were very stressful for all of us .... While we all feel great anger towards the nut jobs who performed these atrocities, I'm afraid the comments above just fan the flames of fanaticism .... you cannot deal with violence with violence .... the only thing that's proven to be effective in these situations is peaceful dialogue .... anger is an indulgence .... I've noticed that the image above has been used on other posts and I feel it's in poor taste and certainly a misrepresentation of the work of the police involved in yesterdays tragedy in London .... so don't disrespect our police force please and donÂt be so quick to judge them .... they're at the frontline of situations that are horrific and traumatising .... .... and yeah, they do "serve and protect" ....
  12. I was watching BBC News 24 when this story broke .... the newscaster was reading the information off her monitor and was desperately trying not to laugh, which made it all the more funny .... all that security for the protection of the G8 leaders, and yet they still can't save George Bush from himself? LOL ...
  13. and the majority of guys who use the internet are hot ?? .... LOL ... well my "experience" would suggest otherwise .... LOL ... & LOL again! oh you have made me chuckle .... well done. I suspect you're quite young in which case I wouldn't worry too much about having "true" friends just now .... it can take a very long time to develope really good friends .... just be patient and open to people .... Cheerie .... ~M~
  14. And you feel that those "sins" are worthy of death? .... its a cheery wee faith you've got there .... frankly you're welcome to it .... hatred may lead to murder, but it's not equated to murder unless it's executed .... and why should married people not lust after each other? Agreed, it is ridiculous, we most definately should pay for our crimes .... punishable by Law, (not by the death penalty, which is morally repugnant) ... you seem to be suggesting we should not punish criminals at all, they should live freely in society, committing crimes and remaining unpunished because they'll get theirs when they die .... leave it to your "God" to punish them, .... eh, I don't think so flower .... Nope!
  15. So what happens to the rest of us then? Are you seriously telling me that we don't deserve to live because we don't share your ideology? That's disgraceful .... I don't agree with your belief system, but I acknowledge your right to follow your faith .... and your right to life .... what on earth are you thinking making comments like the one above? .... I don't understand .... I know this is "the vent" section but surely comments like the one I've quoted above shouldn't be supported?
  16. Comedies .... Kath & Kim, Simpsons, Friends, Will & Grace, Frasier, The Office .... Dramas .... any of the "Law and Order" series, The Dead Zone, Millenium .... Fashion TV, (oh, the shame) and Music Channels ....
  17. See now you're going to have to change that attitude for a start .... trust me when I tell you that these girls are probably going through just as much *#it as you are .... the pressures on girls your age are just awful. I'm old, very old .... but I can still remember what it was like being an adolecent girl and it was a nightmare .... however, believe me when I tell you that it's a temporary state and relationships in general can be much easier the older you get .... of course then you have different pressures on you, but that's another story. You have to give girls a chance, remember they're not the enemy .... so be open and friendly .... I know it's hard to develope inner confidence at your age, but the more at ease you are with yourself, the more attractive you are to the opposite sex .... the majority of women are more interested in a guys character that the way he looks .... you may scoff at this, but look around you .... how many of the adults that you know are living with stunning partners, not flippin' many I bet .... as you age, you become less shallow .... if we all waited around for the perfect "prince", we'd have died out as a species long ago .... I'm pretty sure that the "preppy skanks" of today, will be fine women of tomorrow .... we all grow up .... and school thankfully becomes a distant nightmare .... so drop the negativity, it'll get you nowwhere in life .... be patient and open to people .... develope your own inner confidence and you will be attractive to girls/women .... and never think of yourself as a "loser" .... youth is a precious commodity .... unfortunately we only seem to realise this when it's long gone .... enjoy it while you have it .... I wish you well!
  18. when I read the first few posts in this thread I thought I'd entered an alternate universe .... and then I read the post above and common sense again prevailed .... moral fibre is surely about personal integrity .... doing the common good while setting your own ethical standards .... of course everyones "standards" are different which leads to such diverse cultures .... that's what makes us so interesting as a species .... I'd like to think that most of us try to strive towards personal integrity, which in turn should benefit society as a whole .... although I'm pretty sure that we all miss the mark at times .... however, it's a worthy endeavour .... we should all passionately defend our right to follow our own path in life, as long as walking that path doesn't have a detrimental effect on others ....
  19. anything by Robert Harris .... which ain't much cause I think he's only written 3 books to date .... Archangel Fatherland & Enigma hurry up big guy and get another one out will ya .... I'm quite keen on stuff by Anne Tyler and Ruth Rendall .... David Baldacci is a good holiday read .... that said, my absolute fav author will always be JRR Tolkien .... I'm a big Middle Earth fan .... will read and re-read his works forever and a day .... the perfect diversion for a hectic life ....
  20. you known it's really odd, but in Britain, the issue of religion rarely comes up...... if people do have a particular faith, they seem to keep it to themselves.... as a nation, we don't seem to place that much import on peoples personal ideology....and I'm thankful for that.....I do have one friend who is a bit nippy about her Catholicism.... it's the arrogance that I have difficulty with ..... basically that their belief system is the only way..... and by not subscribing to it, your somehow doomed..... how ridiculous and pompous... Since I've been bouncing around different forums, I'm a amazed at how many people are consumed by their faith....it's very odd.... I'm very glad I'm British.....(good grief, did I actually just say that?)...
  21. brace yourself now, but I don't actually own a bible ..... never needed to as I don't believe in the existence of your God, or anyone elses for that matter .... I live my life "God" free .... and it's super ....
  22. you know, I did actually get what you meant..... but by acknowledging that you're right, I then undermine the whole feminist movement ..... it's very difficult to accept that we've been asking for the wrong thing all these years, forgive me for not jumping up and down and saying "yeah, good point"..... (even though your argument is well made), ..... but I think we're arguing over semantics here? maybe it would be better if I used another "watch word" of the feminist movement "liberation"..... oh, just humour me, I'm old and cranky.... I'll be happy if I'm treated on a "level" playing field as men.... there, will that do? as far as the atheist comment, fair play.... that was directed at Noveterra ... sorry.... I very much agree with your last post....the quote below absolutely incensed me too....I found it patronising/offensive in the extreme.... and really sad.....jzyehoshua, if you find your faith gives you the tools to deal with life, that's fine.... but if you truly believe what you've posted in this quote, then may your "God" help you..... and finally, milk, you are no uneducated brat, your arguments are articulate, well thought out and carry weight.... and , most importantly, your thoughts are your own, you don't rely on antiquated text to justify your points.....
  23. I've finally got my website up and running only now I'm having so many problems online that I'm thinking about chucking in the towel.... I'm hoping someone will be able to give me some ideas on what could be the cause of my probs with some simple solutions... I'm having problems accessing many pages, my browser seems sluggish.... posting on this site has been a problem, getting "page unable to be displayed" , but if I press refresh, it then accepts my post..... I can't get into my cpanel at all.... in an effort to solve these problems, I decided to wipe everything this morning and reinstall the master cd.... then I installed my dialup ISP, (using CD), seemed to install OK, until it loaded to the internet, when it then wouldn't load up my ISP homepage.... it just crashed.... I've since managed to get the homepage but it's taken many attempts.... I went into Windows Update to install critical updates.... it wouldn't install any of the securiy updates... I tried many times.... I tried to get into TRAP 17, buy it just wouldn't upload up the pages.... just seemed to get stuck..... However, and this is the puzzling thing, I managed to upload Google pages and Yahoo pages without any problems at all.... I only managed to get into TRAP 17 because I checked my mail at Yahoo and had a PM for this site and clicked on the link and it loaded OK.... I've no idea what's going on ..... is it a fault with my ISP or is a browser issue or is it my system that's the problem ??? I posted about this issue the other day, (when my problems had just started), and somebody suggested it could be my browser and I should download firefox or something similar..... thing is I don't know for sure that it is the browser that's the problem plus, how do I do it..... will it affect my ISP, do I have to let them know.... generally haven't a clue....one thing I do know is that I don't want to make things worse by my lack of knowledge.... I'm fairly PC illiterate so if anybody has any ideas could you keep it really simple for me. I've sent my ISP an email outlining the problems I'm having, but generally, they're pretty bloody useless, so I'm not holding my breath that they'll be able to help..... I'm hoping you guys will be of more support..... God, this is a novel ..... sorry, I'm just trying to give you the full picture.... if anyone does have any ideas, maybe it would be better to email me as I don't know if I'll manage to access the boards again.... HELP!! Cheerie..... ~M~
  24. one word .... Hurrah! two words ..... Good Question! you don't need religious dogma to set the moral template of your life .... morality is instinctive .... try thinking for yourself .... it's quite liberating .... XX
  25. You speak in absolutes ....I repeat, I that is ME expect to be treated as the equal of any man .... isn't that the issue we're debating here .... I doubt that concept would be dismissed as "impossible" if the debate was "could any man be the equal of a woman?"..... and again I ask, is there something wrong with being an atheist?
