  1. i use easyphp also... but that was before i discovered xammp. i like it better than easyphp, and has more components included and not limited to just php-mysql-apache. i find easyphp encumbering to use here's a list of IMPORTANT xammp-included components: Apache HTTPD, MySQL, PHP, Perl, FileZilla FTP Server, phpMyAdmin, OpenSSL, Freetype, Webalizer, mod_perl, Turck MMCache, mcrypt, SQLite, JpGraph, Mercury Mail Transport System, PHPBlender PHP Compiler. i test my local site using xammp first, before i upload it online. here is my active site: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ download xammp instead. get it here. but still try easyphp to see if you can be comfortable with it. good luck with your local testing
  2. GPS or GPRS? if GPS (Global Positioning System), well it has its good uses granting the user knows how to use it. mobile phones are jam-packed withfeatures that many people don't need but they still buy it just because itsone of the latest models. some marketing ploy - "keeping up with the joneses" syndrome, which i think is only for the gullible.
  3. for pointing of a domain name (.com, .net, etc.) to a professional web host (like Xisto).
  4. Impressive to say the least some grammatic and typo errors, but thosecan be easily remedied. i find it ironic however to see a devil portrayed as not evil enough. :)something like "Angel", the vampire with a soul. in your poem, a devilinstead. lolz

    Website Copier

now if that can download the database and complete php/cgi/perl codes of sites I WANT, then that would be great if it can just download a bunch of html pages with a bunch of graphics, i'm way past that phase. there is absolutely NO WAY iwill fill my hard drive (again) with gunk using these. i'd rather print those pageswhich i fancy keeping in store.
  6. tsk.tsk.tsk... tough one you got there odomike. you using the cpanel installation?or is your phpbb a modded-phpbb (like pr3mo, or something...)? if it's the mod thatis causing you all the trouble, then you might just have to get rid of that mod.if that mod is essential to the forum you have, then try to test it first on yourlocal machine before installing it on your LIVE forum. it's bad to mess up a working live forum because of a wayward mod.
  7. err, that looks like a transparent blend emboss effect.... you may want to check out this tutorial to achieve a similar effect with text. for other text effects using photoshop, check this out.
  8. I finally migrated my site to Xisto. and all kinks ironed out (i think ) Please take a look at my site. And post reviews and ratings here (10=highest, 1=lowest) if you can. If you encounter any glitch i need to work on my site, pls add here also so i can work on it. thanks all. StarCircleQuest.info or scq.serverph.uni.cc

    Hmm...

welcome back, dozen Xisto has grown fast these past 2 weeks (although root admin has since then removed a great bunch of old zero-post members.)
  10. as always, glad to be of service to Xisto co-members. and thanks for a positive rep point.
  11. well gotcha41, my guess is the code's author used that precise code in his/herworking website, and he/she just did a cut & paste from a working page. theimportant thing is it works... and the author somehow expects a person whouses the code to be somewhat familiar with html and its common tags like the<BODY> tag. it's just for expediency (on the author's side) that it has been included that way. if they prepared a more detailed explanation and pure code (with no other html elements present), then they may decide to charge for the code. and we want it for free, right? beggars can't be choosers.
  12. that would be nice.... but the root admin must be amenable to this arrangement.an increase in bandwidth and web space would surely be appealing. :)although there can be some drawbacks in having this kind of competition:- can be time-consuming for the admin to code and implement and manage areferral system of this magnitude (at this time). if Xisto gets a professionalreferral system which Xisto has to purchase, it just means additional cost toroot admin (which can be channeled to upgrading our host hardware, space, and bandwidth).- prone to spamming of referral link by irresponsible forum members and mayresult to Xisto losing its service from the main host provider.- as a competition, this would have a timeframe and would benefit existingmembers of the forum when the competition begins. and people who get onboard Xisto and join later in the "amazing race" for referrals will be in thelosing end maybe if we start when we reach a member base of 3000, thenwe can have a more interesting competition :)an affiliate system would be better in the long run though if Xisto can do that.it would erase all the drawbacks listed above.
  13. no phpBB2 in the choices? that would have been my vote
  14. PM me your email address and i will send you a gmail invite
  15. hehehe? mobile, clouds is asking for bandwidth forums don't take upmuch bandwidth as all scripts are processed on the server side (if you'reusing PHP), and only the output gets sent to the client side. you wouldbe safe with 500MB bandwidth a month if it's just the forums. even if theforums is as active as Xisto. :)but if you have bandwidth extensive sections in your site (like downloadsand other stuff), your bandwidth usage will depend on how much yourvisitors utilize those sections. there's no clear way to determine that, aseverything depends on daily fluctuating factors.
  16. huh? maybe you don't have a database yet? if you do, maybe you didn't givethat db the correct authorization to access it? or you didn't configure yourpunBB settings to the correct configuration? one of the three. and maybesome other reasons.
  17. good thing you found another option. update us on your success. anddocument it here just in case others would meet the same problem in the future.
  18. no phpmyadmin export option? that's weird... anyway, this article should help you in making the backup via mysqldump. don't fail to read more examples on how to backup via mysqldump here. likewise, this could be useful too in your predicament.
  19. i suppose you already have a backup of the mysql db you want to move to Xisto.next thing to do is go to your cpanel, go to phpMyAdmin (under site managementtools) then create a db there. after that, select the db you just created (from thedropdown menu on the left frame), click on the SQL tab (on the right frame),and from there, browse your backup db to import it. that's it. pat yourself on theshoulder afterwards
  20. glad to be of service now you can have your friend access his own ftp folderunder your subdomain
  21. no trouble at all googlue glad to be of help :)as for CMS, can't really recommend anything as i have not used anyyet. and it really depends on how comfortable you are in using one.there's this one (http://e107.org/) used by jave here. will still try thatlater. but if you want to be on the safe side without much trouble inconfiguring things, you can use the CMS scripts available at cpanel.PHPnuke seems to be the most commonly used (and most tested).
  22. the one i gave is entirely different. and it is tested on an FTP client, not from the browser. go check your test folder i have uploaded successfully there
  23. that's for the background color you want to set up for that page. you canset that to any color. people usually use equivalents (#FFFFFF = white) butyou can use plain color names like white, black, red, blue, etc. it won't affect the script whatsoever if you change it, but it will affect thebackground color of your page.
  24. no problem. we all start from learning and taking small "steps". and later on,you will be ready to tackle larger "steps". we're here to guide you if you ever needour help. cheers!
