I use SMF on my site and it never asks me for FTP, but I know it's configured.In Package Manager > Options, there's a place to input this kind of stuff.FTP Server: Port:Username:I use localhost and port 21 for mine. I dunno if that's what you needed or not, but it's all I can really find.

Yeah, my site is relatively popular, and I only go through almost 2gb bandwidth a month. I have tons of wallpapers, Mp3s, and various other things. It's kind of hard to generate so much you run out, but I've seen some sites do it (especially ones with tons and tons of images that people really rely on, especially in the spriting community. [People need to learn to save the images]).I would, however, like for someone to explain bandwidth in the sense outside of websites. I've never really understood it when people refer to processor bandwidth and the like.

It's somewhat old news, but I agree completely with how cool it is. My history teacher in ninth grade tried to argue with hydrogen power never running out by saying "We've never used it like that, what if it isn't unlimited?" but I think he was just crazy. Our accepted laws of science say it will never run out.In my opinion, hydrogen is most certainly the best source of energy for our future, it's unlimited, non polluting, and cheap. Since it's lighter than air, it's absolutely safe, for everyone who thinks using it in a car will result in hydrogen bomb, and as long as the hydrogen stations don't have a roof over the refuel pumps, it'll be safer at fueling than gasoline. The government should give these cars to everyone in the United States... that will most certainly help our economy, to not have to worry about oil anymore.

Bandwidth, on any computer function, is the measure of data flow from point A to point B. Normally, it's a term used only for websites and hosting, but it has a use in basic computing functions like hard drives and processors. The standard use on websites is a measurement of traffic to server capacity, and is often limited depending on the type of hosting you purchased.As a rule of thumb, bandwidth is taken more quickly when your website offers downloads, or has huge pictures saved in filetypes that aren't exactly economical (.bmp is a prime example). The best way to defend your bandwidth is to disallow hotlinking of images from your site, and perhaps put a limit on downloads per month.

Why has this been copied over and over in this topic since xpress said it? The original definition of a hacker is any person who had the time and took the effort to fool around with anything enough to open it. It didn't have to be computers, it could be locks, phones, clocks; and in fact, it didn't start out as computers (no term really ever does). Even if your expertise isn't on a computer, you could still be a hacker if you just like to take stuff apart to see how it works, or to modify it. (That's me )

God forbid Microsoft ever thinks that people will accept their operating system no matter how flawed it is, they'll descend into complete and utter failure then. It looks like to me that Microsoft is currently and will remain the biggest name in software, especially to businesses. While many will claim that Apple is better or Linux is better, Apple's marketing and software doesn't appeal to the average consumer as much as they would like to think, and Linux is often too daunting to the standard user, leaving it for true, hardcore computing aficionados. (In fact, I seem to have heard that Microsoft actually owns a bit of Apple)Their future is perhaps the most steady in the world's economy for the simple fact that now that we have them, computers are here to stay, and there's no country in the world that doesn't currently, or won't eventually need them and someone to develop software for them. Yeah, Microsoft may have to rework some things to get around these open source programs like Open Office (don't get me wrong, I think open source is great), Linux, and other fine programs, but there will always be a need for the professional class software that Microsoft produces.

I've had some pretty bad experiences with UPS in the past and fully agree with their nickname "Oops" (Also, to settle up that thing in the opening post, FedEx stands for "Federal Express"). UPS has delivered a bowl that my mom's friend sent her for Christmas one year in three pieces. There was a "FRAGILE" sticker on the top of the box, but they cared not, apparently. I fixed it with some super glue since it wasn't anywhere near as torn up as that poor Printer Scanner Combo, but the point still stands, they need to take some pride in their work and not throw stuff around, maybe even strap in things that say fragile in that big slow truck they drive.My own personal worst experience with UPS is their speed, or really, lack thereof. I paid extra for rush shipping or whatever it is... My package arrived in two weeks. If that's rush, I would hate to actually NEED something and not be able to pay for any kind of shipping aside from standard.As for DHL, I've only had one experience with them, and while they got the job done pretty fast, they skipped over my state (South Carolina) and went to Georgia. I don't really get that, especially since they got to Georgia in two days. From Georgia it was handed over to the USPS, which I will blame for the extra 4 days it took to get to me. Maybe we're all better off delivering our own packages...

Wow, I can't believe that. I had no idea Microsoft even remembered Windows 3.1. I'm as old as it is, too... I guess that's pretty neat. I never used it, though. The first time I ever used a computer it was running Windows 95, I think, so that's as far back as I can tell anyone about operating system wise (aside from DOS, but I guess that one might not count)I think we have a lot to thank 3.1 for, since all of the progress we have now to the wonders of XP and the upcoming Windows 7 have been based on the 3.1 formula. I suppose in some ways, it's much more successful than some of its followers. *coughvistacough*

Chances are you weren't logged in as an administrator on the computer you were trying to perform the operation from. Command Prompt has various things that are disallowed on certain level accounts, and I don't doubt that remote shutdown is one of them.

I bet almost no one here has ever even heard of the Mother series. In America, the second game was called Earthbound and released for the Super Nintendo. So for the majority of you who haven't heard of it, I'll go into a bit of detail.Mother was released in 1989 for the NES and there were plans to bring it out outside of Japan, yet since the Super Nintendo was soon to come out here, it was scrapped. There are roms of it in English referring to it as "Earthbound Zero". It follows the adventures of a boy named Ninten and his friends as they save the world from an evil alien.Later, in 1995, Mother 2 (Earthbound) was brought out for the Super Nintendo. Like Mother, it sold very well in Japan. The advertising here was terrible and very few people knew anything about it. Anyone who did actually notice it also noticed that its graphics weren't up to par with Final Fantasy, and ignored it. The story changed over to follow Ness (who some here may know from Super Smash Bros) and his set of friends as they set out to once again save the world from the same threat that existed in the previous game. This is the only of the Mother trilogy to be sold outside of Japan.Finally, Mother 3 was released in 2006 as the final game in the trilogy set an undetermined amount of years in the future. Its characters change once more, to a small family living on an island, and a few citizens on that island. The main character changes each chapter, but eventually ends up on Lucas (who you may know from Super Smash Bros as well) who can be considered the main character in its story. If you've never played any of the games, I recommend you find a way to play them. I'm lucky enough to own Earthbound on my Super Nintendo, and I have a ROM of Mother 3. A group of people from Starmen.net (a huge Mother series fansite) translated the entire game into English, since the general consensus is that Nintendo of America wanted nothing to do with the game after Earthbound's terrible sales (which was their fault). All three are wonderful games with brilliant stories and characters that, chances are, you'll find a bit of yourself in. In my opinion, Mother, in three games, trumps all of Final Fantasy's many story arcs and characters who often have little to no personality. It breaks away from the typical RPG, switching from swords and magic staffs to using everyday items and psionics, and each game in the series is riddled with symbolism, references to popular culture, and moments that can almost bring you to tears.While some people probably won't like it at first, if you do find a way to play any of them, bear with it past the first few minutes. Immerse yourself in the story and characters more than the graphics. The gameplay is similar to Final Fantasy, though in the final two games, enemies appear in the overworld and you have a chance of avoiding them, or when your level is high enough, killing them instantly. You'll find it to your liking, if not, oh well. Like most things, it's not for everyone.

The entire Final Fantasy series is tremendously overrated, and has gone downhill tremendously since Final Fantasy 6. Definitely go for Kingdom Hearts, the Tales of - series, or to get into a cult favorite - Legend of Dragoon.

My favorite classic games are Super Mario Bros 1 and 3, the MegaMan games and Legend of Zelda. They never get old, and even now they're still going strong in their newer iterations, although they're all mostly easier. I have fond memories of playing Zelda when I was 4. It was hard and scary, it took me quite a few years to get to the last level, and I just beat it within the last five years. That's a true classic.

Try Media Convert, I do all of my WAV to Mp3 converting there, and it works the other way. I've never converted Mp3 to WAV, so I don't really know about the quality. It's also free and always there, unlike Switch and Audacity, which are shareware and bug you after so many conversions/days.

I love chocolate, but I don't think it could be called an addiction. It's good stuff, I have to agree. I'm more fond of it just by itself, however, not with nuts and stuff in it, it's best by itself, especially melted.

Best case scenario is that it's your power supply going dead. Depending on frequency of turning your computer on and off, Power Supplies can last anywhere from 3 to 5 years, in some cases longer, but that's about the average life span for those. Pretty much the best way to check for that is to smell it... if it smells like fireworks when they go off, it burned something inside of it. There's no fixing those, so you can only get a new one. If it were a RAM problem, the computer wouldn't shut itself off, it would simply get to one of the POST screens and tell you that there is a problem with the RAM. You should probably listen to xpress and check out that everything is working. If the fan doesn't work on the processor, it will shut off the entire computer to keep it cool.

I have had my 30Gb hard drive for 5 years now, I've still only used a bit over half. The only reason anyone could ever, ever, EVER need 30,000Tb of space is if they're wanting to save the history of the world and the universe up to 50 billion years ago in AVI format. (A bit overkill, I admit, but effective)I would love to find a use for the huge hard drives that seem to be so massively popular today, but I can't really think of anything that one person could do with that much space. Maybe people who are really into making movies and saving them or something... As for me, I'm fine with at most 100Gb.

I've never really cared all too much for KFC. There's just something not too tasty about those secret herbs and spices. I do like their mashed potatoes, but they are a bit too pricey, I think. I can get the same amount of food at Bojangles for about two dollars less than I can at KFC (and theirs tastes better ).I am, aside from mashed potatoes, fond of their chicken pot pies too, but they're way too tiny.

Yeah, There's two or three Day Old Bread stores around here selling breads on the cheap just because they're a bit stale. Still delicious, and still makes great toast. I think the common rule of thumb is that bread is good for a week after the date on the package, while meat is really only good two days later... something like that.Also, clothes? The only clothes sold at dollar stores around here are little kids clothes, so I've never thought about getting any from there.

That kind of makes sense. People sleep best when they're warm, and you sleep when you're tired... Which is when you yawn. Sounds really plausible. And I guess yawning is just an attempt to keep us awake or something...I still want proof that one person yawning makes you yawn. I don't think that effects me... but I want to yawn just saying "yawn" this much.

Wow. I was always taught that we yawn because we need more air (so yawning a lot is a good way to tell if you're breathing too much Carbon Monoxide)... but I did know that Crocodiles yawn to keep cool. Guess it kind of works the same in us after all.

That's pretty bad. Good thing we never bought food from there... or anything really, aside from cheap trinkets, ornaments, and the occasional toy. Thanks for sharing this somewhat disturbing fact with us. But just to make it clear, we have a variety of "Dollar" stores around here, so do you specifically mean "Dollar Tree", or just any of them (ie Dollar General, Dollar Store, 99 Cent Store...)

I think the iPod Touch is better. Yeah, it lacks phone features... but that's why a year ago you got that cool <insert phone here>. Also, on the Touch, the internet is free as long as you can get a WiFi signal, and like was said before, you don't have to pay for it monthly. The iPhone kind of was just made to do what you'll never do - use an iPod and your phone at the same time.

I saw that a long while back and thought it was pretty nifty. I guess that would be the coffee table of the future... if people weren't prone to spilling things. While It's a cool idea and really takes advantage of Touch Screen technology mixed with a fully compatible touch screen GUI, it also seems to scream "break me!" since being a table, people are going to want to set things on it, and most likely will. That'll probably lead to the screen breaking or it losing calibration constantly, making people dislike it. But who's to say how well it will turn out when the technology gets cheap enough to release it at a cost the normal consumer can afford?
