Astahost Is Dead Still trying to contact Admin
Animator replied to Animator's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Cheers xboxrulz and tansqrx... it's not so much webmail I was after, but more FormMail which Xisto have as cgiemail. Ironically, I have not yet been able to successfully use this feature. If you are of experience, then please help me out on the other thread I made for the new problem here: http://forums.xisto.com/topic/95923-topic/?findpost=1064392332 Thanks - Lancer. -
Which OS are you running? On Linux the mount -o loop option allows you to browse an ISO like a folder. mkdir filesgohere mount -o loop someimage.iso filesgohereDon't forget to unmount the new "filesgohere" directory when you have finished browsing the ISO.

Cgiemail / Cgiecho Sends only blank message
Animator replied to Animator's topic in Web Hosting Support
Can someone please look carefully into this for me? I have been going mad over the forums etc searching and trying all the things people say to do. I have three similar attempts now (my initial plus results of following two different tutorials on the boards)... http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ with http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ with http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ with http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ ...they all have the same problem. Entries get processed, but all result in a blank form like this... Please help - I really need this service up and running. Lancer. -
Web Based Os Fully online Remote Desktops [free]
Animator replied to Animator's topic in Operating Systems
Actually, it could arguably speed things up. I'll admit my own connection is slow because I'm one of them stone-age dialup users and, you see, many would point out that's my problem for having behind the times hardware. Fair enough. ...now if I took their argument no too much further, I could likewise say that everyone with crashy or slow machines is at fault for their use of inferior hardware. Hmmm? Whether this was true or not is besides the point. I could argue that this is the "cause" for every computer problem you experience. So then, introduce a (futuristic) web based OS... the ones I mentioned above are only novelty value for now (although useful if you really think about it). If they were to make web based OS, then the computer you physically hold would not have to be anything much more than the keyboard, the screen and the mouse. All the "grunt" of your computer could be done at the supercomputer end... possibly even involving what is known as an "array" of computers for bigger tasks. So then, everyone plugs into their phone line and gets their own subscribed slice of supercomputer powered desktop. No more software piracy (you don't buy install disks, you pay subscription), no more virus (you only "get" front end access) and the price of computers plummets hugely (heck, they could make disposable ones for traveling like they do cameras) This idea first popped into my mind about 1998 when I noticed the browser war with Netscape trying to sue Microsoft for forcing Internet Explorer as an integral part of Windows. I said it then and no one understood the concept I was trying to explain. Personally, it's kind of too Big Brother for me, but it looks more and more the way things are indeed headed. -
Spam Issues...is Astahost Selling Our Addresses?
Animator replied to ethergeek's topic in Web Hosting Support
Hey there. I am also a SpamGourmet user. I agree totally with vujsa in that your email address was probably compromised when it was posted asking for hosting. There are many many ways email can get leaked. Live publishing like those request forms is on the high risk list for sure. But then, as a fellow SpamGourmet user, you should know the drill... now that you are hosted, ditch the targeted email that you used for here, and reset your personal settings with a new one. End of problem. -
I'm going to sound like a bit of a prat saying this, but seriously... for what it's worth, try looking at Linux. After using Linux as my primary OS for a number of years now, I have missed some of my old games (MechWarrior) but every time I got to assist someone with computer problems and they are on Windows... ...it is so slow to boot up because there is so much antithis and antithat ware running amok on their system ...and even then they have every other progam clashing, or interrupting with dumb pop ups like you describe. Unless you're doing something only Windows can provide, if you're only using your computer for Word Processing, Spreadsheets, email and web browsing... the only rel difference you would see is improvement.

I'm trying to get FormMail / cgiemail working. To be frank, it's my real reason for using Xisto. I dropped my previous host because I need this feature. I've been working through http://web.mit.edu/wwwdev/cgiemail/user.html for a few hours trying to get it to work. In my /home/lancer/public_html I have form_experiment.html (the page to send from) and mytemplate.txt (click the above two mentioned files to visit them in the flesh ) For now, I am not actually trying to email anything, just echo as in the instructions at http://web.mit.edu/wwwdev/cgiemail/user.html Here is my page... mytemplate.txt To: not.my.real.email@antispam.comSubject: Email Form thingieContact address? [email]What do you want to tell me? [infobox] form_experiment.html <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Mail Experiment</title><meta name="generator" content="Bluefish 1.0.7"><meta name="ROBOTS" content="NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW"><meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"><meta http-equiv="content-type" content="application/xhtml+xml; charset=UTF-8"></head><body><FORM METHOD="POST" ACTION="cgi-bin/cgiecho/mytemplate.txt" NAME="myform">Please type in your contact address... <INPUT NAME="email"><p>What do you want to tell me? <INPUT NAME="infobox"><p><INPUT TYPE="submit" value="Send e-mail"></FORM><p>Thanks. Have a nice day.</body></html> On sending a message, I get the report... ...and no actual fields showing. Why? I have checked the spelling against my template and everything. Can someone please tell me where I have gone wrong?

Hey there onscreen Interesting tale about the car. Reminded me of The Matrix when Neo saw the same black cat twice. I looked up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Déjŕ vu and it doesn't confirm your view though... it points out a few variations, although the common link is a feeling of being there, as if experiencing a past memory... not seeing something happening twice withing a short space of time. The dream bit you mention sounds closer. I've heard you can't change what happens... it's why people struggle to remember the next bit. Have you actually managed to change something because you foresaw it happening this way?

Thanks for that. Everywhere I've searched in topics seemed until now to indicate it should happen in within 24 hours, although perhaps I'm confusing with Xisto? Feeling a little better after your reassurances, although I'm going to have to use http://www.formmail.com/ for the "contact details" part of my website. In about a week, I'm going to a mission critical conference for 3D Animators... work is very hard to come by here and I'll need to flash a business card around with a website they can make contact with me on. Thus, I need the FormMail working at least by then. Thanks again - I'll keep waiting for Xisto in the meantime as well, because reports from hosted members have been so good. -
Cheers, xboxrulz. I've just managed to get the creds up on Xisto and might try there, although I like the possibilities of Xisto better (forum topics are more my kind of thing). How would you make your OS look better than a mac?

Do your homework in finding out about the company. Some loathe formality, for others it is essential. If their advertisement for applications mentions "we are looking for dynamic, independent and free thinking individuals...", then try to drop in some of those same words into your conversations with them.Don't get trapped into talking non stop about yourself. Show that you interact well with them by learning to ask open ended questions to get the interviewer talking. If they talk a lot they will be the ones feeling satisfied and that will reflect their impressions of you.Good luck.

I used to get d?j? vu when I was younger. I would be sitting on the school mat and suddenly I got this eerie feeling that I'd "seen this before". What was happening in front of me was like a replaying memory. I was stammering, "oh yes, oh yes" trying to remember the next bit before it really happened....quite freaky and very memorable. I don't get it much now. What are your d?j? vu experiences? What do you think is behind the phenomenon? Is there a way to awaken d?j? vu, or to calm it down if it becomes a problem?

My Top Ten recommendations for what geeks can do to stop getting bored... 1. Visit a humorous website. My recommendation: Computer Stupidities - http://www.rinkworks.com/stupid/ 2. Download a new computer game Linux: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Windows / DOS: http://www.pcgaming.ws/ Mac: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ For the record, my geek-game recommendation would be nethack: http://www.nethack.org/ 3. Build something in 3D For this I recommend Blender. It's a big program to learn, but well worth it. Download from: https://www.blender.org/ While you're there, check out the cool gallery at https://blenderartists.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?27-Forum-Gallery 4. Design a webcomic Check out http://www.ustherobots.com/ (I chose this webcomic because it was made in Blender, mentioned above) 5. Paint something! Use Photoshop (commercial) or Gimp (free from https://www.gimp.org/ Linux / Unix / Windows / Mac) 6. Mix some sound Grab a whole fistful of Audio clips and remix them into something good. Add effects. Rehash your music collection if you wish, or make a soundeffect-narrative version of a story for young kids... You only need Audacity for this: https://sourceforge.net/projects/audacity/ 7. Make a website. There is plenty of software available, and tutorials on this. I'm not going to list one. Use google if you're not "in the know" of how to do this already. Being on the Xisto/Xisto forum means you probably are. It's just one I couldn't miss out from my list. 8. Learn to hack, legally Try out the missions at http://www.hackthissite.org/ If you need more, search for them at http://www.hackergames.net/ or http://www.puremango.co.uk/2009/03/wargames_110/ 9. Set up a computer with a new Linux distro Try to customise it to be the perfect box for someone you know. Try different distros at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I recommend trying a LiveCD if you only want to muck around for a bit, or if you haven't much experience in Linux already: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/search.php?category=Live+Medium%23distrosearch 10. Get outside! Seriously, if you've worked through the above and still bored; then you need to get away from your computer for a bit. No one gets geek by pushing themselves 24/7. Go on, get some air into your brain. Exercise. Recharge. You'll be a much better geek for the balance. Okay, there ya go. My top ten (off the top of my head) geek ways to fight boredom. I'll admit that I'm really just a tad desperate to get my Xisto credits up, so I thought, "I must have something to contribute" and made the list. I'm bound to have missed something though... Get your own list up there... let me know where mine is lacking

Dear Xisto... I voted for you. Out of all the other candidates, I said "Xisto is the smartest. I'll put them in charge of my website. They hold lots of promise." But since then, Xisto, you've broken your election promise. Yes. Broken. Remember when you said... Well, I've been waiting for longer than a week now to get my account activated. Unlike other members, I read the rulebook. I contributed to have 30 credits well in advance (I have something over over eighty posts now) and yet still... I am here... waiting. I sent a PM to your support team. Days have passed. No reply. I have never seen an Admin in the shoutbox either. I tried to send a request on the hosted-support forum... I'm locked out because my site is not yet active (total genius that rule, doncha think? ) I made a help request on your other neighbouring forum (Xisto) and cooled off for a walk. ...by the time I got back home, my request had already been totally deleted... but no action had been taken. As of yet, my request for site hosting just remains in the "not been taken seriously" new requests basket. Guys... you said it would not take much time. You lied. I'm thinking I should start looking to other hosts. I was referred to you through Free-Webhosts. They said you promised web-heaven. I'm thinking to go back to them and write my own review and tell them that heaven doesn't exist. Can you please let me know what's going on regarding the slow response to my hosting request? Lancer. P.S. Yes, this should go into the hosted support forum but again, until the site gets enabled, there's no way I can post there. After failing to get any response from admin PM, I figured this to be the next logical place. -
Um... xboxrules, as it happens I've used Linux for the last eight or nine years. In fact, for the last three years, I've run Linux and maintained the networks of the schools where I have taught. Linux does not have the mind-map front end like I described, so when you say... ...you are completely wrong. Search for "View Your Mind" (otherwise known as VYM) for a computer program which will show you the what I mean by a "mind map" structure. Imagine if directories were shown this way instead of icons of folders. Neither does Linux have a GL-based walkthrough directory structure like a maze of rooms (there are a few freak ones, but they are not standard to any common install... you'd usually have to download them). I'm actually surprised (and a little insulted frankly) that a moderator would come and make an entry after my ideas just to flame me as you have. I don't think your comment of the ideas in regard to "will take too much system resources" is credible either. That could easily have been said about what is now the very popular compiz desktop (which used to be called Beryl) back in its humble beginnings. I thought this was a thread to fire up our imaginations, as the original thread author said, "let every one of us write his dream about what he love for the futur os what he hope to be"... not a thread to open us to mockery by others who post just to say "your idea can't be done". Regarding encryption also... let me explain further. Years ago, when I used to use Windows98, there was an encryption based program I used to use where right-clicking any folder (directory) would come up with an option to "encrypt this folder". Now I don't know whether Windows works like this nowadays (I think not), but basically anyone using the keyboard and clicking that folder would be given a message "to unencrypt please type the correct password"... that's the kind of encryption I was thinking of. So yeah, xboxrulz, I'm a bit miffed at your negative response to my ideas. I'm also fairly dissatisfied at Xisto actually... I'll have over 70 or so cred after this post and still no one's enabled my site hosting request in over a week... any attempt to request help has been unanswered or deleted without explanation. Asking you as a moderator who may know, would you please have any idea what's going on here?

Mine is a Nokia 2280. I mainly use it for contacting my ladyfriend... so it gets a lot of use.

So what's your goal? Are you trying to bring him to know God, or to follow a procedure to give you peace of mind?If he does in his heart accept God... it may be that you never know.If you somehow persuade him to "convert"... he may in fact still be far from God.Jesus said not to hide the light. He also said to take the plank off wood from our own eyes first. It's all there in front of you. Soften your own heart and see to his needs. Never give up at loving others and seeing to their needs... work to that goal. Prove your own salvation, work in a soup kitchen or whatever opportunity you see around you. Quit worrying about God working the heart strings or whatever else it is you are currently seeking.Pray in all things of course... that way when you do feel this burden, you can be doing something about it. Other than that, if your own needle points to God he's going to pick up on something even without you trying to make it happen.Peace.

This is something worth checking out! Everyone is familiar with Desktop Operating Systems... Windows, Linux, MacOS etc... ...but do you know about online Web-based OS? Basically, you open a (usually free) account where you are able to log in to see a fully functional desktop... all through your web browser. It's just like working on a "normal" computer except that, because it's online, you can access your work... and the programs from anywhere. If you haven't seen this, it's probably better to have a live example. Here are four examples for you to try... Desktop2: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ EyeOS: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ G.ho.st: http://g.ho.st/ StonewareOS: https://www.lenovosoftware.com/ (commercial) Let me know what you think of this idea... the way of the future?Let's know if you find any more.

Ever hear of Spontaneous Human Invisibility? There are many strange accounts of people who have suddenly found themselves in situations where they were strangely ignored by everyone around them. Sometimes they even tried to get attention of their friends who continued acting like they weren't there, only to go away (e.g. bathroom) and have the friends wondering why they'd been away for so long when they came back the second time. Sites with stories along those lines would include... http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ (This one's great!) http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Well, searching for more on this topic, I found a website which claims to give away the secret... http://invisibility100.tripod.com/ "How to become invisible" Unfortunately, page cuts off near the critical end (perhaps it's just a joke... the writing "becomes invisible"?) But then I got thinking... has anyone here experienced this phenomenon? Do you have an invisibility experience to share? Do you think it is possible for people to become invisible (not counting camouflage) and if so, how?

You can either use the time waiting to sleep to artificially fantasize a dream of your own making, or hope to recognise a real dream for what it is before waking. Unfortunately, the first is not a real dream and the second is difficult given the nature of dreaming occupies the mind in its own thoughts. Often realising a dream is just a dream can cause it to end, and in some cases cause a panic attack as the sleeper tries to awaken when their body is not yet ready. (Not very pleasant; I've done this a few times) I trust you have googled the topic? You would find much "advice" on lucid dreaming techniques from sites like http://www.wikihow.com/Lucid-Dream and http://www.lucidipedia.com/ The tips from the above websites would include things like... Keeping the dream journal Use the knowledge that dreams happen in morning to your advantage; set an alarm clock to wake early so that you can slip into dream state before forgetting the dream, and can continue knowing that it is a dream. Practice "reality checks" like checking the time on a clock, checking to see if writing on a page changes etc. Personally, I think the "morning time" idea is the most practical. Hope this helps.

Mine would change the appearance all the folders / directories and such from icons into something more like a mind map of expandable branches. Complete with touch screen, I would be able to drag the branches around in any order, resize the important looking ones (or colour them differently) and even add my own custom graphics to any branch (I am a visual thinker). It would be 3D.Or, just for a fun alternative, it might be possible to explore directories like going through 3D rooms. Downloadable themes could make the rooms look like a castle maze, or something out of Star Wars depending on my mood. The OS would come with art applications... perhaps the Gimp (although I really wish Gimp would hurry up and get folders in layers like Photoshop has) and definitely 3D animation tools like Blender.Any section could be password encrypted so I wouldn't have to worry about anyone using my computer going through my more personal stuff. File format would automatically be compressed to save space.I would also invent a neat "go anywhere" feature where not only can you save todays files into a portable briefcase for taking away to work (etc) on your USB drive, but the main programs to run those files would be included & linked as well. The USB would then be bootable from anyones machines and your applications would work like a live CD enabling me to continue working from anyones computer. Alternatively, my OS could include provision for online storage of files, even having browser-based word processors etc, or even allowing me to log in and access my desktop remotely.

Okay... so what's the background behind your crit of the Martial Arts?I've been involved in Martial Arts on and off since I was 12 (I'm 36 now) and I don't go to "learn to fight" and all the other hairbrain reasons people associate with it. That's more of a side effect for me. I go because it's something that I can mix in well with... social in one sense... it's where my closest friends have tended to be.As for learning to defend oneself... I've been attacked a few times (one time by a gang of street kids where I looked at one the wrong way, another where there was this middle age creepy guy who though to make me his next sexual victim...) and, yeah, I got out of those situations with I guess you could say what I learned in my training. No need to hammer them exactly either. In the gang of streetkids, I simply (instinctively more than anything) blocked each puch and shove until they got tired and I was able to walk off home. With the other guy, he was on top of me pinning me to the ground... I lifted my leg up and around his neck, was able to throw him off without much effort. He didn't make any more attempt after that which suited me fine.So there you have it. I'm assuming either......you know nothing about the Martial Arts and are making some kind of review about it to get your wordcount up for free hosting....or you've been trying to misuse it and found it hasn't worked like you wanted it to.But as for your statement about it not being much use for defense... I never said it was, 'cept that I would also have to admit from experience it has been.

How I Got $1200 From Bux.to : A True Story...
Animator replied to fahim's topic in General Discussion
Okay, I thought I'd look into this, so you just got another referral while I signed up. Hope the member referral links like my one here... http://buxgroup.to/bux/ ...aren't going to equate to spam an' all. I'm going to sit here and see if the money does start up. Let's say I'm not keen on referring people (I'm not) because that reeks of scam and I don't want to get unpolular, so I'm only goting to "work hard" at viewing adverts each day... Non premium membership: I earn 10c a day (five minutes to click through ten adverts at 30 seconds each). I can't get any out until it hits $10, which is in 100 days. Full year total would make me: $36.50 Premium membership: Now I earn 25c a day (10 minutes this time for 20 adverts). I can get my $10 out in 40 days. The year would earn me $91.25 but this would have to be minus the yearly premium membership fee of $59.00 ...so for all my premium member work I earn $32.25. Premium (for viewing advertisements) loses me $4.25 for all my effort of viewing adverts twice as long as "free" members. I really don't think you got an xbox viewing adverts with this scheme. The only way you would make that kind of money is if you referred lots of people, and lots of them signed up and they were also highly dedicated (active) to this craze. Is this a scam? No really BUT you need to be wise. You can lose money on this if you pay premium and then don't click through (daily) to earn it back. You could make serious money in this programme but only through referrals (Multi Level Marketing style). Fortunately, you don't have to spam people as referrals can be bought (at about $1 each apparently, I don't see how this helps the system when they are not really "new" people). At the end of the day, the real money comes from the advertisers and gets filtered to a hopefully like-minded community of people wanting to gamble some of their time. I think this scheme could work for some dedicated members. I'm still testing this by the way. Click my account to help me see if this works. I'll be interested in seeing if it does. Click here to refer through me: http://buxgroup.to/bux/ -
I have used a few 3D apps, but Blender and Maya are the two I know best. Neither is better than the other, though each are better at different things. Generaly, there is more detail in most of Maya's tools than in the same tool for Blender, although there are some exceptions. Don't underestimate Blender. I personally find Maya to be the better animation package, but Blender the better modeller. Maya has better shaders and texturing effects and Blender at least has its own compositor (movie mixer).I understand 3DSMax is good, not used it much more than a quick looksee.
