    Blasphemy? I like it!
  2. I am an advanced (x)HTML/CSS user and prefer to do my own coding, so I dont NEED a WYSIWYG editor. Or any of the special features that Dreamweaver offers! I'm not buying dreamweaver as its ?339 GBP. Thats nearly 3 months wages for me. Which is why I'd prefer a simple syntax highlighter. Still havent found anything... Ill see if i can borrow a copy of dreamweaver from someone in the meantime, thankies for all the suggestions.
  3. Well, I looked into the editor mentioned. Unfortunately it seems that although the program looks good there is a bug preventing me from using it. I receive an error message. Its either a long number or code, or just the wods "catastrophic failure".... its probably my PC. So I uninstalled that, and got a copy of Pagebreeze from download.com. It looked quite good, the syntax highlighting was a horrible colour but I can live with that. However, when I opened the document I was editing, I saved it, but everything between the <body> tags had been deleted! Shock horror! So that was rather unexpected and annoying. Thanks to the legend that is the windows clip'o'board I was fine, but it was still bad. More evidence that I need you guys instead of relying on google! So basically I'm back where I started. Come on, there must be one somewhere!
  4. Personally I value the community forums as a way of sharing a personal experience which a large amount of us would have to go through, in this case finding a proper way to code. However, when one reads the topic correctly you see that I want one rather specific - google cant tell you which have spyware or not, or what the actual customer satisfation is like (as it is traditional to make up testimonies!). So you see, canute24, questions like these need to be asked. If I took googles word as gospel I wouldnt get very far, would I? Even a powerful advanced search cant block me from all the rogue internet traders! No one can be trusted, but you guys do come closer than most methods on the internet. (Read: company sites!)And as for you using frontpage? Yes, thats costs quite a bit. And quite a bit of money is the very thing I don't have right now!
  5. Hi, I'm looking for a free HTML editor. Not one of those new-fangled WYSIWYG ones... the only conditions are....* Its free* It has syntax highlighting* It has a preview mode (like on dreamweaver or whatever).* It doesn't have any spy/adware!I figured that theres probably a great program out there somewhere, I just havent found it yet. I used to use one that I liked but since the Great Hard Drive Crash of 2004 it has disappeared from my PC, and I can't find anywhere to download it either....Which (free) editor do you use?- Vacant
  6. 105 gmail invites to give away.... I should think of a competition or something....It seems that whenever i get rid of a few I get a load more - im not going to do anything with them so I hope someone can put them to good use.Email or PM me!- vacant
  7. I suggest the following two methods to get rid of popup adverts.... 1] If you're using Firefox, download the Adblock plugin. You can just click on flash adverts (or any adverts at all) and itll block every advert from that server (or whatever). Its very good, I'd recommend it! Available here: http://adblock.mozdev.org/ 2] One more thing: create a file called "hosts" in - Windows 95 / 98 / ME: C:\Windows - Windows NT: C:\WinNT\hosts - Windows 2000: C:\WinNT\system32\drivers\etc\ - Windows XP: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\ And copy the list of ad servers available at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Paste the list into your hosts file and you're done... Ad Hosting servers (advertising.com, doubleclick etc) will be banned from your pc! Cool, huh? This works regardless of your browser or settings. Full information available at: http://pgl.yoyo.org/adservers/ I use both, I get hardly any adverts due to the second method, and those I do get get blocked with the firefox extension. Lovely. Hope this helps someone.... - Vacant
  8. Why not just use the "post preview button"? Then you wont have to bother annoying anyone...
  9. Personally I have a 512k connection, and as craiglo said it really goes up to about 1MB in the UK. However, with an insanely fast connection the deciding factor in your download rate is not your connection speed, but the server load. For example, some sites have a download rate of the same speed regardless of whether you're on broadband or dialup... sites like mess.be - everyone downloads spyware at the same speed! Anyway, yeah.BT are upgrading my connection in April. How nice of them...- Vacant
  10. Here's a little song for anyone who's ever hated - in the key of "Grrr". http://www.honda.co.uk/ Thats a great advert due to its annoying factor. Honda have a clever marketing team. Like the famous "Cog" advert... I don't study adverts in any great detail, but you have to admit there are some good ones! Any others you've found great? "Hate something, change something, make something better..."
  11. Hey dundun2007, I didn't know you could do that :| And thanks, I guess...I have taken note of your suggestions! I'm currently making a list of the ones I need to check out... It seems that Nokias are good for robustness... Anyway Ill have a look. Thanks for all your suggestions!Ill post when i choose one... on the off chance that someone cares!- Vacant
  12. Some of you are missing the point! Its a working parody of a free email service, I guess. A sort of "we did it because we can" type of attitude. Of course it's pointless, thats the point. Thats a bit of a paradox isn't it...Well, I think its's good, for what it is. Its a funny idea. However, the "screenshots" they include are obviouly false, do you really think the relatively dull M$ Outlook would say "Your email address is too long!" ?Anyway...Good service in my opinion. Heh, imagine me putting that on my college application form...- Vacant
  13. Didn't that get into trouble somewhere for portraying the frog with "genetalia"? Apparently loads of people got really annoyed with the TV companies - or was that just me....? Yeah, it probably was.... The stuff I make up really disturbs me. I'll move on! EDIT: Nope, I wasn't imagining it.... see http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Ha! Btw. I gave it a thumbs down. Its the most annoying and ugly thing I have ever seen! In a bad way!
  14. A bit below the belt perhaps? But I can see your point... I read this crazy report that "Microsoft is dying" because of its ancient programming (Read: IE, the same 7 year old frame) and the fact that its new operating system is now over 2 years late.
  15. Basically, in my opinion: Theres no use complaining. It is/was an illegal service, you know its an illegal service, and rules are rules. Appeal against the laws, not the closure of the service. In fact, appeal against copy restriction rules and i might just join you...
  16. I need a phone. Money is not really an object here, for if the object is good I'll pay for it. My requirements are thus: - It needs to be robust.... Have you dropped your phone? Did it survive? - It needs to be fairly small.... I'm gonna be carrying it around - It needs to have some connection with my PC, so i can put stuff on it. - It doesnt need masses of features, but they are always a plus - Preferably stylish, but I can afford to cut this one. I'm posting this as I want an unbiased view... (as in: not the view of the salesman in the Tmobile store!) Any help appriciated! Thanks very much! - Vacant EDIT: no, i still cant spell appriciated... appreciated
  17. Nice comp, I must have a try.EDIT: okayy, ive had a try. Couldnt work it out :DDont want the gamil invites though, as i already have 98 spare invites. (MAIL ME froggyb@ (the famous) gmail.com! These need shifting!)PS. Not trying to be cynical or anything, but was that a load of 1s and 0s to get your host credits up? Heh.
  18. Some of those photos are truly amazing, thats some skill you have there.Which software did you use to enhance those? They look pretty darn professional if you ask me. The layout is good too, the only thing that i would mention is the rollover colours on the main menu bit.White is not a good enough contrast with the grey menu text, which should contrast highly to allow people to navigate quickly. I'd suggest the same/similar blue as the background of the surrounding area. Also the rollover blobs need to be a colour that matches the rest of the site, IMO. Try the sunflower yellow colours, perhaps? Im not sure.Top marks for CSS usage, though! And as i said, nice pics - vacant
  19. No. Its not the same as the PSP. PSP is the smaller version of the PS2, while te PS3 is to be the next sucessor of the PS2. I think. Apparently the PS3 is capable of a teraflop of information. Thats 1 billion floating point calculations a second, unless I'm very much mistaken. I'll believe it when i see it, i guess... - vacant PS i do not guarantee the accuracy of the information provided herein! But if you take the internet at face value, then you are bound to get things wrong.
  20. Well, here it is: the list. Enjoy! This isnt research for some secret company is it? Would you go crazy? No, It would actually be better, as I would be less of a housebound sociophobe... Would YOU not exist? Well, obviously yes. I dont think computers currently have THAT much impact on the survival of the human race. Would you be bored all day? Like I said, I would be going out there, and doing things. Probably. Would you be bored at school all day? Well, since our tech 'support' has filtered just about everything on our school PCs, I'm bored even WITH them. Would you be stuck playing board games and stuff all day? Don't knock board games, man! Would you end up working all day? Work? Whats that? Would you be determined to invent computers? If i came up with the idea. I mean, its a bit obscure when you think about it... A big flat lightbulb that you stare into as things flash onto it, and a sort of slab with square btton representing letters. Would you keep a computer secret in your closet and use it when no ones looking? I thought they didn't exist? Would you just be an all around idiot? C9omputing is one of my only areas of goodness. Heh, I'd be a lemon... Would you drink coffee all day? Where did THAT question come from? Would you sleep all day? Sleep is good... Would you kill yourself? Anything is better than death. Yes, even a world without computers... Would you be a cop? Yep... Would you be a robber? Only if someone had hidden the PC secretly in a closet. Would you be a mugger? Of course not... although same reason as above Would you be a regular person? Define regular. Personally I prefer Decaf. Would you like to exist on this earth? Life is good. Would you die of boredom? Probably not... Has anyone noticed how these questions are all rather similar?[/b] I might skip a few... Would you invent games? Yeah, why not. Would you invent more games? Er... Would you think about inventing computers? Havent we already been through this???
  21. Dont you think the name of the game might help? And what you're playing it on...
  22. Nobody has heard of this game!I bought "Descent 3" when it was ?20 GBP, its now ?3.50 in the Game bargain bucket thing. But don't be fooled by the price. Its a great game! Mainly because it can be hacked in so many different ways, and all encouraged by the people who made it... New ships, patches, mods, levels, multiplayer modes etc etc. Have a look around, is all I'll say. Its on Amazon somewhere. Its the classic ship-in-alien-world-with-guns-and-destroy-robots game, came out in 1998. Graphics ahead of its time. You needed a 300MHz processor to run it! And a 3D accelerator! Wow, the dizzy heights of 1998 technology, i guess...The moral of the story is, dont be fooled by the price!Out of interest, does anyone else have this? Ill challenge you to a multiplayer sometime.
  23. Didnt want to start a topic thats basically the same as this one, I'd just like to say I have 25 invites to give away. I really should think of a competition or something...but I can't. So just post or email me (moc.liamg@byggorf backwards)! Hope someone finds a use for them, as I certaintly can't. There seems to have been an explosion in the number given away recently, I wonder when it'll go public....Thanks! And apologies to powerman, but its kind of the same thing
  24. I'm getting a 'suspended account' message hope you get it back up soon, then we can all comment -vacant
  25. This has been a topic of discussion for some time now, everywhere I've come to the conclusion that Firefox is the best browser of the moment (and no, i'm not just going on the hype here!) , and I've been through IE, Opera, Firefox, Netscape and a few others. What is important, though, is that no browser is perfect. I'm mainly looking at this from a page rendering view here, being a wannabe-web designer. Eg: IE doesnt support <blink>, for example, it also renders a lot of CSS incorrectly. But it is by far the best browser for Javascript etc. Why can't they just make a super-browser, which takes all the best elements from each? But then, I suppose everyone would use it, and hate it as it was the monopoly :DJust the way it goes, I suppose.-vacant
