  1. This is the problem with people - they expect other people to be like themselves.

There's a word for this: xenophobia.

When people see something they don't like, it's only natural to try and shun it for what it is, simply because you don't like it and making fun of it makes you feel less scared about it invading your thoughts. I'll point to a story in the Bible as an example, not because it's from the Bible, but because it serves the purpose of the context of what I'm saying. You should know this: the Exodus.

Most people know it because of Moses holding his staff up to the water in front of all the people, and parting the Red Sea (which, by the way, is translated as the "Sea of Reeds", not the Red Sea as we know it today.), but some people don't know the message behind it: the fact that the only reason this happened was because Pharaoh was aftaid of the Israelites.

Big whoop. Get over your fear, stupid serpent-headed king.

If you think something's morally wrong, it's not for you to decide whether other people think it is or not. Preach to them all you want, but don't impose your beliefs as if they have no choice. (Yes, I'm talking to you, Christian extremists.) They'll just shun you and you won't have any friends.

(Note: I can see where my argument fails when interpreted by a Christian extremist. They'll say, "Who cares about earthly friends? I have Jesus; that's all I need." Of course. I mean, the entire New Testament is geared towards that. Go ahead only needing Jesus. We'll follow you if we like. Just don't push us or we'll pull harder.)

  2. I noticed no one came here to post that something was wrong, even if this forum is working fine. (If it weren't, I wouldn't be posting here.)

For some reason, I can't log in, and all the user accounts were removed from the system, even if the front page works fine. (As well, my hosting account was removed. I'm pretty sure I wasn't banned, because I didn't get any warning from moderators.)

Is this some sort of server upgrade or scheduled downtime, and when can I expect service to be back on again?

(I'm also posting this here because if I did so on the shoutbox, not everyone would be able to read it, as well as for the reason that there was no announcement.)

EDIT: Someone else got to it first: ][link]

Same problem. Any news on when it's going to be fixed? I don't want to apply for a new account again!

  3. Whats your problem? :D
I order Cds all the time. It is a little annoying to get all the packaging off, but I don't think it is that big of a deal, and getting the cd far outweighs the trials of opening packages.

I've got 4 cds I'm waiting for in the mail by the way:
Frost Like Ashes - Born To Pieces
Primitive Graven Image - Traversing the Awesome Night
    Sorrowstorm - Onward
Norther Ash - Age of Irrationality

Another potential rant right there -- the long time it takes to deliver CD's.

I wouldn't know about the packaging problem -- alll the CD's I buy are simply in a case. No security or branding stickers whatsoever.

  4. Of course, the worse part is these flash drives are going to be like $700-$1000 when they first come out and so anyone stupid enough to buy one are as stupid as buying the Iphone on ebay for $4000.

You kidding? $700 to $1000 is dirt cheap for a 1-TB thumb drive. I'd say at least $10,000 for one drive. I mean, think about it. a 2-GB drive costs about... $60, now multiply that by 500.

  5. Firstly let me say what the four holly books are. You have counted only the three. The holly books are Psalms, Torah, Bible and Qur'an. Psalms is to David, Torah is to Moses, Bible is to Jesus and Qur'an is to Mohammad.

You said about what your bible teachers are saying. Can tell me where the original Bible is? The Christians changed lots of things while translating into their language or while other things. In my opinion, we cannot trust the replaced Bibles, lots of different Bibles (Where is the original Bible?). The same thing is also happened into Psalms and Torah. There is only one holly book left, and it is protecting its original language, Qur'an. In my opinion, we can only trust to Qur'an. Because all Qur'ans in the world are writing the same even all the letters.
And Qur'an is saying Adam is a human who is created from earth by Allah.

The Qu'ran was written about 600 AD, correct?

Is the original copy still intact? And how do you know it was inspired by Allah? How do you know Mohammud didn't invent the whole thing, like you say people changed or invented the Bible? How do you know it wasn't changed as well? What if the copies today aren't exact copies?

...there is no original Bible. It was made up of 66 books all strung together by... ... by... (okay, I forget. I need to do some research.) As well, the Torah is made up of the Pentateuch, which are the five books of Moses, which are the first five books of the Bible.

  6. Of course I didn't see Adam, but all four holly books say Adam is created from earth by the only God.

All four "holly" books? Don't you mean just Genesis? (and it's "holy" books. Books aren't made of holly.)

Or, do you possibly mean the four Gospels, which is a misconception. They mainly talk about Jesus, not Adam. (Considering that our bible study teacher tells us that Jesus is the "second Adam", what's the difference?)

Or, do you possible mean the three (not four) books of the Abrahamic religions? That would be the Bible, the Torah, and the Qu'ran.

    EDIT:

i'm more inclined to believe all living things are ALIENS. :D

We are extraterrestrials to extraterrestrials. No difference.

  7. To say that using derogatory names for companies shows immaturity on the web would be to say that roughly 98% of Internet users are immature. (Actually, you may have a point there...) I have indeed heard many of the derogatory names you mentioned on this post, and while I don't use any myself, I consider many of them to be a very clever form of stating the facts about a company.

Also, if you go to any website on the web anywhere, you'll normally find that someone is using at least one of these dergoatory terms. Micro$oft, in particular, is used so often I don't know why it isn't in the dictionary! I've even seen it been used on "Have Your Say" postings on Corporate News Websites! I think people are definitely trying to send a message, there...

In my opinion, the problem is not using derogatory terms, it's overusing them. Using them once or twice in a post is proving a point, but three or more times makes you seem immature because you think the word is "cool", when really it's annoying.

If they weren't overused, do you think I'd be creating this topic? XD

Anyway, It's using them once or twice in a post, like this:

You know, I think Windows 2000 was the best one of them all. After that, it degraded into "Winblows" XP.

:that is acceptable, like you said. (And they should always [i mean always!] be in quotes.)

(98% of internet users are immature? Well, partially, anyway... I was one of those 98% four years ago.)

That being said, I think "Micro$oft" is the worst one out of them all. I mean, you're insulting the PHP variable character by putting it on the name of such a sick, twisted company name!

EDIT: Ack, I meant PHP. In PHP, variables always start with a dollar sign. I have no idea why they chose that, but they did.

  8. That's not fair; just because I buy a product from them earlier than others, means I don't get a nifty new feature on a virtually-identical platform? :/ I don't know how to get DS roms onto a cartridge, but if I find out I will let you know. Stupid nintendo. :D

It's something called an R4 adapter. This R4 adapter is basically a MicroSD adapter fit for a Nintendo DS to read. The DS reads specially formatted MicroSD cards, and this adapter fools the DS into thinking it's reading an actual game cartridge. (Or so far as I know... MicroSD is a standard for cell-phones.)

  9. How about the limit of filesize in this host, and what filetype is available?

    (...waiting for a mod...)

This isn't the place to post this kind of information request. But, to answer your question before a mod moves this over to Customer Support (even if the post is under 15 words and looks like spam, it's still a genuine question because I don't believe there is information about it on the hosting info page), there is no file limit and all filetypes are supported, as long as you don't go over the total filesize limit of, say 500 MB on a 30-credit account or 50 MB on a 10-credit account.

  10. I have a very irregular comic strip that I make, and I want my next strip to be in the spirit of XKCD's comic "f--- grapefruit", and rate operating systems instead.

I'm running a poll here, based on whether people think an operating system is better than Windows 2000 or not, which I'm going to use as a benchmark (sea-level point) for rating systems.

The rating system is on 3 axes, "usefulness", "reliability", and "security". Basically, for the poll, check which ones you think are more useful than Windows 2000 on the first poll, which ones are more reliable on the second poll, and which ones are more secure on the third poll. I'm setting the sea-level based on the number of poll entries divided by the number of options (which will always be 10).

So, for example, if 74 people vote and 3 of them choose Windows Vista, then I'll divide 3 by 7.4, take the base-(10-th root of 10) logarithm of that number, and rate it on my poll contrasted to my own opinion. If 0 people vote, I assume the number to be the reciprocal of the total vote count, so the rating never goes below -10.

Or, for another example, if 126 people vote and 94 of them choose Linux, then I'll divide 94 by 12.6, take the base-(10-th root of 10) logarithm of that, and rate it on the poll.

PLEASE VOTE! I will credit Xisto.com for it! (Actual text to be included: "Based on results from ## votes on Xisto.com")

(If you have any other comments, such as specific numerical ratings for any of the 2 dimensions, please include them in a post and I will incorporate them into the results.)

(To Mods: If this topic is inappropriate for anything in any way, please stick a "note" here. I read the rules another time over and couldn't find anything against them, and I don't see how this could be spam.)

  11. (Argh... why all the M$ stuff? Why not just call it Microsoft like everyone else does?)Anyway, I can't say I'll like Windows 7. It all went down from Windows XP.(On a related note, my next comic strip is going to be about operating systems. I need people's opinions on whether specific operating systems are better or worse than Windows 2000, which I'm using as a benchmark.)

  12. Wow, what a nice mayor. I wish i had a mayor that banned smoking.

Even if it would get me beaten up, i'd still do it, just to get my point out there.

I still dont understand why people smoke even though they know it can damage them in the long run. As for the idiots that smoke cause they were under pressure from their friends telling them to. They should have just said "no!" and never see those "friends" again. Cigarette companies should stop filtering cigarettes and the government should raise the taxes by like 5 dollars on all brands.

You can't ban smoking completely, even if it does nothing but harm you, in both the short run and the long run. There are no "good" effects with cigarettes, even if they do "help" you relax. Thy only "help" you relax because they alleviate, temporarily, an addiction that you get used to. You can't ban it completely because people will revolt against it. You can ban it in all open and public areas, and no one should mind.

What I'd suggest doing is freeze the age limit. Basically, pin it at January 1 or some arbitrary date of a specific year, and everyone who's born after that date cannot smoke.

A cigarette tax, especially for cigarettes, is already in place. Raising it to 70% (like you mentioned, $5) is on the border of illegal, and it's also nonsensical. I mean, if you want to ban smoking that badly, go ahead and start a new Communist regime.

  13. Another difference and this is somewhat huge depending if your a RAM person, is that 64 bit processors can read 4 gigs of RAM while 32 bit processors can only read 3 gigs of RAM.

Actually 64-bit processors can read 2^64 memory addresses, hence the name 64-bit. That becomes 16 (kilo, mega, giga, tera, peta, exa) exabytes. (It's 16 exabytes? I thought the memory addresses went by bits, not bytes. Oh, well...)
It's not that they can process faster or anything - just that they process more data at a time -- which doesn't mean that a 64-bit processor can simulate two 32-bit processors. 64-bit programs will generally run faster than their 32-bit equivalents if the program is larger.

In comparison, 32-bit processors can have up to 2^32 bytes, or 4 gigabytes.

  14. Eh, it only looks big if you convert the money. :D

$9.51 USD per US gallon becomes about ?5.70 per imperial gallon, which is still a lot. Even in the US it's still $4.25/gallon.

It's a good thing I don't need to worry about this yet... I'm 14 and can't get a driving license (licence in British?) for another four years! (In Ontario, the legal limit for a G license is 18, and 16 for a G1 license, the first license you can get.)

DIT: Elsewhere in Canada, it's still 16, I think... I got that wrong.

  15. 343,597,383,680/7,000,000 = 49,085 seconds

Where the hell does 7,000,000 come from?

The 7,000,000 comes from Comcast's advertised speed of 7 Mbps. It's usually a bit less than this, however, so the answer is more like 60,000 seconds, which is still only 16 2/3 hours, which is outrageously low by your standard. The problem is, however, that most people don't use 40 GB of bandwidth when browsing the Internet. So to Congress, their actions are justified, because it's usually the people who go on Bittorrent that use more than 40 GB of bandwidth.

I have unlimited service, but I know Bell (a Canadian company; they have no service in the US) limits their bandwidth usage to 1 GB per month (day? Not sure), which is even more outrageous.

  16. Quick question to the both of you: Where are these verses? To sweet_princess, for i lack this knowledge and have searched the Qur'an but couldn't find it, so either i somehow missed it or it's in the Hadiths somewhere. To amirborna, for there is no such verse in the Bible as you will figure out after searching for it.

There is no such verse...you're right.

I'm not sure where the 72 virgins come from, but I sure as hell wouldn't want them if I died here and now!

  17. Hmm... 65 GB? Why should we need that space? even 250 MB already rocks for one blog, one site and one forum or maybe others (Am I right? please correct me if I'm wrong)

As far as I know, bigger space at webhost is useless and slower. I experienced that already, then till I found Xisto, I'm going to move my forums and blog here after I got 30 points, hehehe

250 MB may be enough to fit one blog, one forum, and one site on there, but as soon as it starts filling up for about a year, you'd better mind yourself.

EDIT: Woah... there's a huge difference between 250 MB and 250 GB. Sorry...
