I have several java aplet games on my site, and I am curious as to how they use up bandwith. Thanks for your previous explanation...it was very goodl.

I had wanted a different domain name. A quick search showed that it it was already taken. The site I was at contacted the owner of the name. Shortly thereafter, I received an e mail from the owner of the domain name. He offered to sell it to me for $30,000.No thanks.

Hi:Well, I finally got my upgrade for more space. I wanted the space so that I could load a photograph gallery. I want a really nice image gallery. Histology is images, after all.I used fantastico to try and load Coopermine. It didnt work. I got an error message at line 334.Has anybody else used Coopermine? Any problems getting it to work?I deleted it and tried again in my main directory, rather than a sub directory and it still did not work.If I can't get Coopermine to work, any other recommendations for photo gallery program to use? Thanks!

Hi:Could somebody please explain the advantage of using ws_ftp over file manager in c panel for me. I use to use we_ftp, when I had a different server. But C-Panel has a pretty easy file manager. Is it really just a matter of preference? Or is one distinctly better than the other. Thanks.Sunkist

I got upgraded. I guess I will stick around for a little bit.

Hi:Thats funny you should ask that question. One of the things I enjoy about my page is seeing links to my site place on foreign web-pages. And getting visitors from other countries. I have even had email communication with an Italian professor about histology. It really makes it fun and interesting!Sunkist

I use statcounter. It is also free. They have ads, but they are not intrusive. There is one exit pop up, and a few on their page. They also have an expanded, paid for service. No problems with them so far. Lately, I have just been looking at my statistics within cpanel. Just easier. http://statcounter.com/

I really don't understand the shoutbox. How is it different from regular posts? And what is so special about it. Can anybody post in it? And people put it on their pages? Please clarify.

I have over 30 post credits, and yet my request for a hostin upgrade was deleted. Does anybody know why my request was denied?Should I just reapply? Or should I just go find free or paid hosing elsewhere?Sunkist

Hi:Thanks. I tried that, and I only got one site showing up linking to me. I know there are more, because I have seen the sites and seen the results in my stats. So, I guess the best way is to look at my stat page and see where my traffic is coming from.Sunkist

I am trying to figure out the best way to see what sites are linking to me. I have a counter on my page, and that helps. I also go into cpanel, look at my stats, and can see where they came from. Usually those are links to.But I would like to be able to do it on a search engine. Somebody previously said yahoo was good...but I wasnt able to see how to request it.So...what is the best way to see who links to me?Sunkist

How Many Times A Day Do You Come On Trap17.com
sunkist replied to lil_chris's topic in General Discussion
I come here several times a week. It is a good community to ask questions.Plus, with the posting requirement for free hosing, I sort of have to come here, if I don't want to lose my site hosting.Sometimes, I don't have anything to say, so I just read posts. But that doesnt help me earn the all necessarry posting credicts. So, I come here several times a week. It would probably be easier if I came every day. -
Hi:Thanks for your suggestion. I will play around with it, and see if I can get it to work with tables.Sunkist

Hi:Well, my site started out to help my students learn histology. My students all seemed to all find histology difficult. So I first made a site of useful histology links for them. The idea being, if they went to interesting sites, they would find histology more interesting. So at first, my site was just a big page of recommended links. Then, I added books. My college bookstore did not sell all the histology books that I know are good. And it turned out to be a lot easier to post a book on my webpage, write a review, and tell my students how they could buy a book that I am recommending then to go through the book approval committee and fill out the paperwork to get a book sold at the college bookstore.I don't remember how I got the idea of adding histology games to my site. But I got a lot of positive response from making histology more fun. Then it evolved to a hobby. It just became fun for me to come up with games and ideas to make my site more fun and interesting. I added google ads and a few affiliate links, just in the hope it would offset operating costs. But my site is not a way to make money. Even if I get server space for free, my site has costs. Software for some of the games for example, and I had to pay a lot of money for the photomicrographs I used. Finding photomicrographs (tissue slides) that I am able to use on my site has been a big challenge. I also made a site for my husbands business. This is just a basic business site giving general information about his business. Sunkist

Best Guestbook System At This Moment?
sunkist replied to gotcha41's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Hi: I have a guestbook on my site. It is hosted by Bravenet. Overall, I am satisfied with the functions that bravenet guestbook has. You may view my guestbook here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I have the option of previewing the message before the message gets posted into the guestbook. I also have the option of editing entries. There is a link on the guestbook, that links back to my homepage. There are other features too. The only downside that I have seen with the Bravenet guestbook is that it has ads. Of course, these can be removed if you upgrade. (Translated, that means pay). But for a free guestbook, it has been very good. Sunkist -
Hi:I offered the script to one person, because she let me use some articles on my site.I am debating about offering it to other histology sites? Any thoughts on this?It is a Histology-Word-A-Day. It is updated daily. So really, the only sites interested would be other histology sites. I am concerned about band with usage. Does anybody know how to estimate how much bandwith the script will use if somebody uses it on their page?Or at least, some kind of way to estimate, so that I could figure it out.I don't mind other sites using my script. I spent a lot of time writing the definitions, and it is educational. So I would be glad if other students and educators could benefit. I just don't want to use up all my bandwith or be socked with a huge bill, because I want to allow others to use it.Comments?

I have gotten some good purchases on ebay. I got a custom made wooden item. The locals stores don't sell this type of item. And I contacted the person who was making it, and requested some changes. He was able to do it. It is a one of a kind item.I also bought some wholesale lots of new, sealed cosmetics on ebay. The price on these were really good. But, in this instance, cosmetics never go on sale as the cosmetic companies have a monopoloy and illegally price-fix (they were sued for this in a recent class action lawsuit). So in this case, shopping around in stores wouldn't have done any good, as they all price fix. (No, the wholesale lot was not for resale, it was for my own use)I bought a collection of handbags, bags, and wallets. These were somewhat unique; although I suppose if I shopped around, I could have found them in the stores. But not cheaper than what I ended up paying.I have looked at buying gift cards on ebay. The price is usually so close to the face value, it isnt worht it. Why buy a $100 gc for $98? For $2 I would be risking a scam, item getting lost in the mail, etc. This does not seem like a prudent purchase from ebay to me.I buy CD's and videos from Ebay. As for videos and CD's...it saves me a trip to the store.I had a friend buy a diamond bracelet for thousands of dollars on ebay. She is happy with it...but I always wonder about the stones. And what if that was a scam?Sunkist

Ok, this is very confusing to me.I thought it was 150 mb of space, not 250. But 250 would be great! And once you have 30 credits (credits, not posts), is that dedcuted from your account when you upgrade? So if I get to 30, I lose 30, and then have to post daily to maintain the account? Thanks.Sunkist

Hey...thank you for testing it for me! I wanted somebody to test it to get their feedback, and just double checking that it is working fine. It looks like it works fine on your site.I moved around the quotes on purpose. I put the quotes around the vocabulary word of the day, but not the definition. And yea, it updates daily. Thanks again.

Ok, as an aside. The script is on my server here at Xisto and it already looks like it works (so its not going to crash your page or do anything malicious) It is on my site on this page: http://www.histology-world.com/contents/contents.htm And it looks like it is working fine, and I am happy with the layout of it on this page. (It is in the right hand corner) Sunkist

Hi:I have an external java script that I have offered to somebody to use on their web site. It is a histologyvocabulary word, updated every single day. I want to make sure that my script works properly. Is there anybody out there who is willing to test it on their page and give me feedback? Specifically, recommendations for improvement or let me know the link of the page you put it on, so I can see how it works?Just copy on paste this code:<center><script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"src="http://www.histology-world.com/contents/contents.htm as a side note, this is a pretty esoteric field, so the histology vocabulary word is not going to be of much interest to most people. I do however, want the script to be functioning properly and the layout to be nice, so that if she uses it, it works well.Your comments are appreciated. Thanks!Sunkist
