  2. Did a search of the Forum and found nothing about Clarisworks , which is an iMac software similar to MS Office , so here is the problem.I need to convert a Clarisworks presentation from its existance as a .cwk presentation file into a Powerpoint (or equal) Presentation. I have OpenOffice, so .ppt should be readable by that software. I think.I have a G3 iMac ppc that has the Clarisworks application, but it will only save in .cwk which OOO doesn't read. So, here I am asking for some assistance. My search of the web found a couple of cwk convertors, but they seem to only work for the Word Proccessing documents, not the presentations. I now have no clue what to do.Anyway, is anyone aware of this software? or a convertor?Incidently, apparently MS Windows Appleworks software which might read the Clariswork into Appleworks and then convert to ppt, but I cannot seem to find out what versions read the presentations.
  3. Actually, in your User Directory is a hidden location called .fonts, just drop them in there and restart the computer (easier for people unless you know which service to restart).I think you can also access this location just typing fonts: or fonts:// in your address bar of your explorer window and it'd open up the fonts directory location and you can copy and paste directly into it.I'm not on Linux at the moment, to verify this, but I believe this was near enough to how I did it.Cheers,MC
  4. There's SSH explorers. One I have used is Filezilla FTP on Windows because it supports SSH/SCP connections and is easy to use just for basic file edits/transfers etc, it can also allow you to open up a box where you can manually issue commands if needs be, so you're not at a complete loss if you need more advance means. Most GUI FTP clients on Linux have this ability too. I'm sure there's others but I prefer CLI because I can do more a lot faster.Cheers,MC
  5. When I'm installing a dial up modem, the first thing I do is identify the chipset on it, now obviously the chipset will be Lucent because of what was detected, but this does not mean XP will have the drivers for it, in most cases it doesn't. So you would want to get the latest drivers you can for the chipset of the modem.Even better, if the modem still has a sticker that identifies the manufacturer, then you can visit the vendor's site and download the latest drivers from there.Install the modem card.Unzip and run the setup files or just unzip then go into System Properties (right-click my computer and choose properties), Click the hardware tab, then device manager, locate the device which could end up in Unknown devices, or some other category, just look for something that has a yellow triangle with an exclamation/question mark, if there's more than one, I suggest you locate drivers for all that are appearing.Right click on the modem, select update drivers and select have disk or manually specify the location, locate the location you unzipped the files and then continue, it should install, it may even prompt a message saying it's not been tested with XP, you can continue with it, most drivers work fine.Install the files, then you'll need to configure the modem a bit, check in control panel for modem type options, you have to change the region to suit your location, this could also be found in the properties of the modem in device manager. After that, you'll need to setup a dial up connection, Start | Settings | Network Settings | New Connection Wizard | Connect to the Internet | Set up connection manually | Connect using dialup modem, then enter the ISP's name, the ISP's phone number then your Username and password, and check any of those options below if needs be, then just connect to the internet and test it out.Cheers,MC
  6. Not only FDM supports this almost all download managers have this option. I do use only FDM because it is add-free , spyware free , it has user opinion about a download , automatically searches for mirrors , can be used as a FTP client , Can schedule website downloads....more like this
  7. A partition manager just the way it should be. GParted (GNOME Partition Editor) is a freeware partition manager based on Linux, but it’s not limited to that OS. GParted is available in three forms: 1. a binary that can be compiled on any Linux distro, 2.a LiveCD which can be burnt onto CD, and 3.a LiveUSB distribution that can be run by booting off a USB drive I have reviewed LiveCD version. # Simple Interface # The top part of the window shows the hard drive as a rectangular diagram, and the partitions are drawn with proportional sizes. # The file system, capacity, and free space ofeach partition are shown at the bottom. # You can right-click on a partition and resize, move, copy, format, or createa partition. # After you perform a certain list of actions, a new pane pops at the bottom of the program, listing the actions and their sequence. # This is just a preview of the actions, and you can review the actions and undo any or all actions. Once you feel that all is OK, # # you can click the Apply button to execute the actions. # GParted supports a host of file systems such as ext, ext2, FAT16, FAT32,NTFS, HFS, HFS+, and the list is seemingly endless.
  8. D-link is the industry pioneer in wireless networking. My friends have told me he DWP-2100AP is the fastest Wi-Fi access point. But it has some disadvantages too.It cannot be used as bridge between non-D-Link-brand wireless routers or switches. It also has a detachable antennae which helps to increase its range.
  9. The following are the symptoms of virus attack: 1. Your computer always stops responding when you try to use certain software. This could also take place due to corruption of an essential file required by that software. 2. You received an e-mail message that has a strange attachment. When you open the attachment, dialog boxes appear, or a sudden degradation in system performance occurs. 3. There is a double extension on an attachment that you recently opened, such as .jpg .vbs or .gif. exe. 4. An anti-virus program is disabled for no reason and it cannot be restarted. The computer may not allow re-installation of the anti-virus. 5. Strange dialog boxes or message boxes appear on the screen. 6. Someone tells you that they have recently received e-mail messages from you containing infected attached files, and you are sure you never sent any such mails. 7. New icons that you did not place on the Desktop appear, and are not associated with any recently installed programs. 8. Strange sounds or music plays from your speakers unexpectedly. 9. A program disappears from the computer, and you didnât uninstall it. 10. Windows will not start because certain critical system files are missing, and you receive error messages listing those files. 11. The computer starts as expected some of the time, but atother times, stops responding before the desktop icons and task bar appear. 12.The computer runs very slowly and it takes a long time to start. 13. Out-of-memory error messages appear, even though your computer has plenty of RAM. 14.New programs do not install properly. 15. Windows restarts unexpectedly. 16. Programs that used to run now stop responding frequently. If you try to remove and reinstall the software, the issue continues to occur. 17. A partition completely disappears.
  10. Follow the simple steps to virus proof your pc. 1. Make sure you have a clean boot CD handy at all times. Your original operating system installation CD should be bootable, so that will do. 2. If your anti-virus has an option of making a bootable CD, take some time off to make one of those. You will appreciate the effort if the need ever arises. 3. Use a well-reputed anti-virus software and update it daily. 4. Make sure your anti-virus automatically scans any newly inserted discs for viruses, especially if you tend to exchange data between your office and home computers. 5. Avoid opening mails with attachments unless you’re absolutely sure they are from trusted sources. 6. If you’re using an e-mail client on your computer such as Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express or Mozilla Thunderbird, disable the message preview pane. This way you can filter the messages you open by the sender’s name or the subject line. 7. Keep all your documents and important programs backed up on a CD, or any other storage media.

  12. Better use Yahoo messenger 8 instead of Windows live messenger because they have integrated the facility to chat with windows messenger users also. I also like windows live messenger user interface. It is pretty cool.
