You can try Ubuntu Linux. It's the easiest Linux distribution I've used that has a nice GUI interface. I've installed Ubuntu on VMware and the total harddisk space required seem to be nearing 2GB. The memory I've set on VMWare was 192MB and it worked alright. It's slow sometime when you are opening multiple files simultaneously. If you are using it for simple home applications or web surfing, it should be alright. Otherwise I don't think you will look into this as 192MB don't seem to be enough for amateur users.Puppy Linux seem to be your best choice. Another alternative to this is Damn Small Linux (DSL) which is about 50MB as well. It runs off a CD that doesn't require you to install into your system. There's also an option for you to install the CD into your system so you won't have to boot from it. It's working pretty fast and boots up about 1 minute on the LiveCD. It's the fastest bootup Linux that I've tried. Interface wise isn't as good as Ubuntu however still pretty reasonable. I've tried some applications on DSL and found some had memory leak as I was running on VMware. That is one bad point as there isn't really an official developer for DSL.

What you meant by Apache lacks? Apache servers work the same way in all platforms, whether or not in Windows or in Linux. I don't find the point why it works best on Ubuntu Linux? It's better to run a server on RedHat if it's a Linux operating system.

You can get the most updated version of Apache HTTP server here http://httpd.apache.org/ The best available version for Windows is Apache HTTP Server 2.0.55

I believe you are trying to ask why some of the directory cannot be accessed through a URL like how you normally surf a webpage. Only the host root directory set by the server administrator is able to serve all your webpages on the internet. These directories are usually named as "www" or "public_html", similar to what Xisto.com has on cPanel. You upload all your stuffs into these folders so they can be viewed on the internet. If you've uploaded to another directory which is not the the hosting root directory, you definately will not be able to access them on the internet. This isn't a matter whether it's a shared hosting or not. It's hosting configuration set by the server administrator.

Firstly, I've noticed that embedded YouTube videos on personal websites, or any sites not on YouTube's domain, cannot be viewed on Opera browser. In other words, the codes given by YouTube to embed the videos on your site does not have support for Opera browser. However I've found out a trick to do so. Here's how.. This is the original code given by YouTube to embed to your own website. Copy this codes and paste into the source of your site. <object width="425" height="350"> <param name="movie" value="http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/; <embed src="http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/&%2334; type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> Now look at the value in the param tag and the source in the embed tag. Edit the "/v/" into "/p.swf?video_id=". Hence it becomes the following.. <object width="425" height="350"> <param name="movie" value="http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/; <embed src="http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/&%2334; type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> Now with this code, you will be able to play YouTube videos on Opera browser as well. Moreover, it's able to play videos on all types of browsers. A disadvantage is that you cannot see the first frame of the video like in the original code. Anyway, who want's to see just the first frame? Compatibility is the key to be a good web programmer.

You can also search for "php reference" on google. This is what I always do when I was learning PHP from scratch and still doing it now. I think it's the most effective method to get what you want efficiently and quickly, straight to the point..

If you're running on Apache server, check this out. http://www.apache-asp.org/ Else if you are running on IIS server, check these out. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ End if.

Gyration Mouse THe Coolest mouse ever invented
Inspiron replied to phate's topic in Science and Technology
Yes I agree with you..! Having your explorer in total 3D Doom like room interface will certainly take more time to access your files since you have to travel or walk virtually to different rooms. What's worst is when you've walked into the wrong room or you've forgotten the password, as the virtual key, to your room, as the directory. However it's certainly very nice idea to implement on gamer's desktop. Gamer's sure will love it.. Businessmen on the other hand should hate them as they suppose to fetch files easier and faster. They also need more room on the virtual desk to place their work on it so as to access them right away without moving into different directories. For this, SphereXP has a good 3D interface where you are virtually in the middle of a sphere while all your programs and directories floats around on the surface of the sphere. You can even scroll top to bottom, left or right to search your directories. This feature gives ample room on desk for people who wants quick access to their files, while still giving a nice 3D graphical effect. -
I would not believe it's a clan site until you said so. It simply looked so professional, like the official flash website of Call of Duty game. Everything is so professionally made.I'm thinking if you are to update your site, totally flash built website will be a definate hassle if you've many updates.. Nice alignment, great graphics, soft yet energetic background music.. Good..!

Site Taking Too Long To Respond Message from Firefox
Inspiron replied to agentblade's topic in Web Hosting Support
If this time out error message happens frequently, take down the time it happened and it's frequency (number of time it happened). I've been having time out when I'm trying to surf my site as well. This problem isn't solved still. Sometimes refreshing it 3 times doesn't help..I'm starting to think that it's our ISP problem, since we are from the same country. Otherwise it would be the server's problem. -
Helpful Criticism Of My Website Please
Inspiron replied to agentblade's topic in Websites and Web Designing
hmm.. I guess this thread shall be shifted to a Xisto hosted forum? Nice site still although not much changes. Get some alignment right and it's way to go. Currently the strong point of your site is still your flash content. However the overall alignment with the tagboard is abit "out".. So make them centered and it should be done..Anyway, it's 3am SG time, arn't you asleep? :lol:I'm sleeping soon... -
Disable Echo Command! in MS_DOS
Inspiron replied to RemoteConnection's topic in Security issues & Exploits
Echo is basically a command to send back the output to you on your screen. For example, in command prompt, you can type "echo abc"., it simply writes "abc" on the next line. It's nothing but just for debugging or notification purposes. It does not execute any functions or make security changes. As for RemoteConnection's post, I don't understand your point. At most I think the command prompt hangs and gives a blue screen of death or somewhat similar. Otherwise, the command prompt will not be executable as the hex codes have been changed. Even if it is still executable and nothing weird seem to happen, I don't think the effect will be as a security exploit. Hence, what is the effect of doing so? You should have stated its effects. -

Gyration Mouse THe Coolest mouse ever invented
Inspiron replied to phate's topic in Science and Technology
Why not? I've even tried 3D desktop awhile ago and the software was done by 3rd party companies. There's one that really makes you walk in a room to the kitchen or elsewhere so simulate opening another directory. Download 3DNA and try out.. There's a free version.. http://dp.g.doubleclick.net/apps/domainpark/domainpark.cgi?client=&domain_name=ww1.3dna.net&channel=&drid=&output=html Check out it's gallery to find more interfaces for your 3D desktop. http://dp.g.doubleclick.net/apps/domainpark/domainpark.cgi?client=&domain_name=ww1.3dna.net&channel=&drid=&output=htmlproducts/gallery.htm -
Helpful Criticism Of My Website Please
Inspiron replied to agentblade's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Try centering everything on your site. It looks more professional that way. Also, remove that border around the flash content, similar to the one "Walking with Jesus".. If possible, place the ads below the "Walking with Jesus" flash animation or place it right at the bottom of your page. It doesn't look good on top of your site.Anyway, nice flash site. -
Like many suggested, the main problem is due to picture sizes and the amount of flash animations. Another important factor that many missed out is the amount of scripts involved in the page. Avoid more than 3 scripts for that page or particular HTML file. Usually people loves the animations done by javascript not realising that those scripts takes up loading time. In addition, the script takes up processing time as well as they are needed to be rendered by the browser and display as programmed. It will further worsen the situation if the scripts are not properly programmed and contain bugs which results in memory overflow. Avoid frames as possible as each frame is treated as another browser within your page. Each frame cost 1 http request to the server. For every http request to the web server, it slows down in overall loading your entire website. Similar does for iframes. Also, avoid more than 1 external CSS file. As external CSS files must be in the head section of your HTML document, hence they must be loaded first before any body content displays. Although they are cached, CSS files slow down the initial display of your page. You can always use this service to check if your website is optimised for speed surfing. http://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/ The reults also gives recommendations to your page to improve loading time.

Home Network Not Working Networking multiple PCs (wired and wireless)
Inspiron replied to u_c_iv's topic in Computer Networks
When the first time I've got my wireless router, I was excited in connecting both my desktop and notebook together and surf the internet simultaneously. Like you, everything works fine individually. I can even talk to my sister through Skype and chat with MSN messenger without any problems, even though we were all under the same IP address behind a router. The problem only comes when I wanted to share files or play a LAN game locally without the need of the Internet. Here is how I solved them. Firstly, I checked the firewall installed on the individual systems, making sure they are correctly configurated to accept a certain range of local IP addresses or a specific IP address. If you are using ZoneAlarm, add an entry with the IP addresses of your computer and your desktop as accepted IP ranges in the Zone settings under the Firewall tab. Similarly if you are using Norton Internet Security, look under the local network settings and add the local IP addresses of the two computers. If you want to save the trouble of configuring the firewalls, simply disable the firewalls. You are encouraged to disconnect from the Internet before doing this because you are now openned to intrusion from the Internet without the Firewalls enabled. Both firewalls on both computers must be configurated similarly or disabled together for communication in local network. Ping the other computer to check if there's reply. Some routers have inbuilt firewall, so check that firewall and configurate similarly to the configurations on the computers. You may also like to reply with the model of your router so we can all look into your problem in more specific detail. Usually the above method should be able to solve the local networking issue. For my home network, it simply stops here and there's nothing more to configure until I brought my notebook to my friend's house for a LAN gaming party. I realised I was not able to ping my friend's computers. We even tried to connect head-to-head without the router and still we couldn't ping each other. After some looking through and troubleshooting, I realised that it was due to the different workgroup. We then all changed our workgroup to a same name and everything else then works fine. To change your workgroup, right-click My Computer and click Properties. In the Computer Name tab, click the Change button to edit your workgroup or your computer name. Make sure that the computer name is unique, meaning that your desktop and notebook should not have the same computer name. Give a common workgroup name for both your desktop and notebook. Try pinging the computers. Restart the computers if they does not ping. This is the similar problem. Try the above solutions. Usually it deals with firewall settings. You may also try to repair the network by clicking the Repair button in the Network status properties. -
You will need to install additional plugins to your board. Check this out. They may be what you need. http://mods.invisionize.com/db/index.php/f/4744 http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I've not tested them as I don't own a power board. Hence there isn't much support from me for these addons. There should be douments available in the download packages. Otherwise you can also discuss for more help in the Invisionize forums. Likewise you can ask for support in this thread and hopefully someone is able to answer your questions. Good luck..

Gyration Mouse THe Coolest mouse ever invented
Inspiron replied to phate's topic in Science and Technology
I'll never know how this Gyration Air Mouse works until I've viewed the demonstration video. It's pretty cool and really able to move the mouse pointer around without the mouse on the desk. It works in mid-air! Wow I should say. Any physical actions on the mouse can also be assigned to do certain tasks, like opening your email client, surf the internet, and even navigate inside Windows Explorer. You should view the video to see how it works. Video Demonstration - Right-click Save As to Download.. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Another alternative to this mouse is the Razer Gaming Mouse. It's indeed a gaming mouse with the highest precision and sensitivity among the mouse developers. On the other hand, the Razer mouse looked pretty sleek with cool neon glowing effect when viewed in the dark. Its mice were used in WCG (World Cyber Games) and many gaming events. http://www.razerzone.com/ I would say in terms of quality, Razer wins as it has the important factor of sensitivity and high defination. Without a proper mouse sensitivity, it isn't anymore a mouse. Gyration mouse on the other hand is innovative as there isn't any such 3D features be incorporated into a mouse. In future when applications really go 3D, like having your files in different directories in the form of walking in a corridor like in Doom3 game, this mouse will definately be useful and probably all mouse developers will follow this standard. Nice findout... -
Full Story: http://www.thestar.com.my/404.html?item=%2fnews%2fstory&user=extranet%5cAnonymous&site=TheStarOnline Ok.. Another step for Microsoft in attempt to play with your non-genuine desktop when she cannot further control your pirated operating system. It won't hurt much to home users. However businessmen, who owns pirated versions, while giving presentations to their clients, will be embarrased whenever this popup comes as and when randomly. What's worst is the message in the popup: "This is not a genuine Windows system.".

There isn't a need to download an encyclopedia to search for file formats. You can always search online as the database archive is always updated and you will get very accurate information. http://pc.net/extensions/ http://fileinfo.com/ Likewise, doing a search on google with just the file extension will certainly bring you information about the file format. e.g. "*.txt" or "*.doc"
