  1. ...Wow, the users on this forum are terrible. All they care about is getting credits for hosting. If demon had even taken the time to read my post RIGHT ABOVE HIS, he would've noticed that his post makes no sense...but who am I kidding, right? No one is going to read this post, you're all just going to ignore it and post like this was an empty thread.
  2. Gamemaker is a great tool, I've done some great stuff with it. It's not just for games either, it's a full programming language so you can do many things with it. I've already made a 3D graphing calculator and a Sudoku Solver in Gamemaker.It has its limitations though. One of the biggest drawbacks is that it runs off interpreted code, so it runs a ton slower than any compiled language.Also, might I suggest http://www.64digits.com/ if you want an easy place to host your games/examples? Great site, it's much more than just a game host. But they only accept Gamemaker made games.
  3. In math, a proof is basically just that, proof that something is true. Proofs must be rigid, they cannot be based on assumptions. For example, just because we keep finding bigger and bigger prime numbers, it does not mean there are infinitely many. However, there is a proof for that.First, assume that there is, in fact, a largest prime number. Call it "P." That is, there is no prime that is greater than P. (It's OK to assume things like this in a proof sometimes; for example, it's OK here because we intend to prove that our assumption is wrong, that it leads to an impossible situation.)Then, consider the product of all prime numbers up to P. That is, 2x3x5x7x11x13x...xP. Now add 1 to that product.The result is a number that, if divided by any prime number, yields a remainder of 1, and therefore is itself prime.BUT WAIT! P is supposed to be the largest prime number! But we just found one bigger than P! And that impossible situation is exactly what proves that there is in fact no largest prime number.*NOTE*For some prime P, the number 2x3x5x7x11x13x...xP + 1 is not necessarily itself prime. There can be more primes between that number and P which are factors of 2x3x5x7x11x13x...xP + 1.
  4. Uh...They're good for editing stuff? Macs are very annoying, and saying that you can just run Windows on them is just dumb. Why pay for 2 operating systems? When I wanted to play starcraft at my cousin's house, I used disk utility to make an image on one of his comps. All it did was complete the process and say that the file was corrupt. This only happened with brood war, as I was able to made .dmgs out of other discs. Great software!More recently, my cousin wanted to play WCIII on his macbook. He could put the CD in and it would install just fine, but when I would try to actually open the application, it would change my resolution like normal, flash a couple times, then exit saying something like "an error in this program has occured, but has not affected any other MacOSX programs", then eject the disc. Good luck fixing any of your problems, because people will refuse to blame their precious OSX for any problems and just say "well it never happened to me".

They've got prototypes somewhere.The thing with a quantum computer is, whereas a binary bit can store either a 1 or a 0, a quantum bit, or "qbit," can store what is essentially a probability associated with something or other (basically, 1, 0, and everything in between). It does this through quantum mechanics, a field of physics where things operate on probability (true randomness, not because we are unable to predict things at that level, but nature itself is truly random).These quantum computers can pump things out billions of times faster than ordaniary binary computers.I want one.   7. The "Golden Ratio" is what I think a very fun number to play around with. It's symbol is φ, or Φ, each one represents either the ratio or it's inverse, I forget which. I like to use Φ. Anyway, it's an irrational number. Unlike pi or e, it has a simple equation: (1+√(5))/2 The number is special because Φ - 1 = 1/Φ. Specifically, 1/1.618033989... = .618033989... So, who cares? Well, there's some interesting stuff about this number. It represents the dimensions of a rectangle that, if you cut a square out of one side, the remaining piece would have the same porportions as the origional rectangle. It relates to the Fibonacci Sequence, Pascal's Triangle, and can be found many places in nature (along with the Fibonacci numbers). But maybe now you want something you don't already know? I was experimenting with the Golden Ratio and related numbers. For example, what if I wanted a number n where x - n = 1/x? I devised a formula and called it the "Golden Function:" f(x) = (x+√(x2+4))/2. (Later I found out someone already discovered it, and also already named it the golden function. Odd.) With this, f(1) = Φ, and all the other numbers in the function have the property f(x) - x = 1/f(x) I then began experimenting with other things, and looking online for more information/to see if I found anything new. Here are some random things: -The Fibonacci Sequence, given by {F1 = 1, F2 = 1, Fn = Fn-1 + Fn-2; nЄZ}, (1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,55,89,...) has a closed-form solution: (ΦX-(1-Φ)X)/√(5) And another relation with the Fibonacci sequence: lim Fn/Fn-1 = Φ x→∞ And yet another: Φn = FnΦ + Fn-1
  8. I've tried most of those, and I'd say Azureus is the best. The original Bittorrent client has the nasty feature of one torrent at a time...It's very annoying to wait for one to finish, especially if the download speed isn't all too fantastic. Bittornado is nice for downloading torrents with certain protection (got advent children when it first came out!), but for the most part is has a hard time finding peers. I had the same problem with BitComet as well...I hardly got anything downloaded because they could never find any peers. I got Azureus a while back and still use it to this day because it pretty much suits all my needs. It allows for multiple torrent downloads, has never had a problem opening a torrent, and always manages to find peers (if they exist, that is).Also, why is BitComet on there twice? Do you think it's just that good? ;)And you might want to put ?Torrent up there, as it's one of the most (if not the most) popular bittorrent client out there. Azureus has been working great for me so I haven't had a need to try it for myself.
  9. Bowling is pretty fun, although strikes are pretty easy once you master the technique. My personal fav is Boxing, even though a lot of people seem to hate it. Nothing like punching the lights out of a bunch of people! I'd say I like golf the second best, even if short putts can sometimes be major problems...

    Starcraft

    Although this thread would fit more nicely in the RTS category, I have to agree that Starcraft is great. I play regular (non-money) maps on USWest, so send a whisper to Chron0Trigger if you're on and feel like playing a game.
  11. I don't know what site this guy is talking about, but you can play risk online at http://landgrab.net/landgrab/Home. You can make your own maps, customize the settings, etc.
  12. I've jumped around a bit...from runescape to conquer online (very breifly), and maple story. Out of the three, I'd have to go with Maple Story...It has very addicting gameplay that is easy to play, but difficult to master. I don't play MMOs right now and I'd like to keep it like that...they take too much time and absolutely no skill.
  13. Is there really any question? Halo has two games that are pretty popular, but Final Fantasy is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, video game franchise ever. Its series spans over 20 years and Squaresoft/enix has released dozens of games for almost all the nintendo/sony platforms. Final Fantasy is the medium by which every other RPG is judged, while Halo is just another FPS series.Comparing individual games is a bit difficult, though, since they are two totally different genres.
  14. Uh...Yacoby posted like 5 months ago, before the game came out.Anyways, does anyone know the exact specs for this game? It looks interesting, although judging from the screenshots and the trailers, it looks like it would take a lot of power to run. Also, I'm pretty sure this will run on Windows Vista AND Windows XP, so you have nothing to worry about...
  15. All of you who agree with this thread are hypocrites. You reprimand us for "blindly following" our leader, but when asked about the 9/11 attacks, you point to a youtube video. How are you any better than those who believe the white house statements? You watch this "Loose Chang"e and are instantly converted; you don't even take the time to confirm the statements in the video (which, might I add, are almost all false and/or taken out of context). You have no idea why you believe any of this, only that a massive government conspiracy sounds interesting to you. Grow up. You are not an enlightened group of Americans, just some people trying too hard to inform the world about how bad your government is.
  16. http://www.aol.com/news/ This is stupid, the report right there even says that the sentences given to the female teachers aren't unusual for other cases, so I don't see the basis for any discrimination accusation other then this: "State NAACP president Lonnie Randolph said that if the same offenses were committed by a black man on white females, the situation would be much different." I agree it would have been different indeed if that was the case, but then again it doesn't even matter if the MALE TEACHER was black or white, or korean. Any case involving an older male having sex with an underage female will immediately give the impression to people that "there was no consent" and indeed the teacher wouldn't have been out on bail. In other words, what he is saying is really a protest against sexism NOT racism. I'm pretty sure he knew what he was doing when he compared a black male teacher to a white female teacher. Oh and the last quote is laughable: ""I don't want to say it was a racial thing, but if it were a white victim and a black teacher, I think things would have been handled differently,"" How can you not want to say it is a racial thing, yet bring up "what-ifs" such as if the "victim was white" and the criminal was "black"? The very fact you are mentioning the race is enough to say that ethnicity matters and is the issue.
  17. Starcraft, of course. Diablo 2 takes absolutely no skill to get good at, and no skill to stay that good. It doesn't matter who you can beat or who you've beaten, all that matters is that you've killled enough computer controlled monsters to get to level 99. Anyone's motivation to play the game seems to be entirely fueled by the virtual rewards killing monsters they get, while starcraft players play to get better.
  18. I usually keep my PC on 24/7 to keep my Starcraft bots running. Like other users said, there's really no power disadvantage, so the only real problem I have is with memory leaks. I usually have to restart the comp once every 4-5 days, but it's fine. I sleep right next to it, but it's in a comp cabniet (for ventilation, there's no back), so it's pretty quiet. I don't even notice it since the fan I have to circulate air in my room is a bit louder.
  19. My favorite game would have to be Chrono Trigger. It had great characters, music, and story, not to mention tons of neat sidequests! I'm a sucker for the FF games too, having beated 1-10, tactics, and I tried mystic quest. That last one kind of sucked, so I wasn't really motivated to finish it. MY favorite game that I'm playing now would have to be Starcraft. It's the only game I know of that has three totally different choices, yet they are all perfectly balanced. Also, unlike MMOs and RPGs, your ability in Starcraft can increase, and is actually based on how good you are instead of how long you've played.
  20. A little grammar lesson: $ means dollars, so saying $1 billion dollars is redundant. It should be $1 billion or 1 billion dollars.Anyways, it makes sense that Viacom will win this suit. Youtube has countless full programs taken from Viacom's networks, although I doubt it's really cost them $1 billion in damages. I expect them to get some money, but probably not the full billion.
  21. It doesn't really mean anything special, as far as I know. I made it about 5 years ago for my GameFAQs name because "Blue Alert" (a real alert, I think) was taken. It has nothing to do with the Command & conquer games as so many have inferred.
  22. Imageshack is better for everything. Photobucket has two big problems: One is that it has a bandwidth limit, meaning your precious sig could be down for a few days because the site you vist is too popular. The other is that it resizes images that are too big, making it also a dumb idea for things like screenshots.
  23. Isn't this the same thing as changing the password by going to Control Panel > User Accounts? The only difference is that your version takes longer and is harder to remember. This is totally pointless...
  24. It is pretty powerful, but I can always just get a powerful PC. With all the problems the PS3 is having right now, I'm not surprised all the stores I go to have them in stock.
  25. You guys do realize that there are somewhere around 10 Links (likewise, the same applies to Zelda), right ? IIRC, one Link stars in 2 games at most (OoT-MM link and LttP-LA Link). Now, even if one of those Links had feelings for the Zelda at the time, that doesn't mean all of them did.And there is a storyline, just maybe not as simple as you're used to. The Zelda games are not random; they all fall into a timeline (or two, but that's getting into the complicated stuff). Before any of the Zelda games (storywise, of course), the original Zelda was put under an eternal sleep by an evil sorcerer who died from casting the spell. I forget who, but the person who trusted and allowed the sorcerer into the kingdom declared that every female in the Royal should be named Zelda, and that's why all the princesses you meet share one name. The exact order of games is not known (although there are compelling theories), but Nintendo has promised that it will be revealed eventually.C'mon, didn't ANY of you pay attention to the opening story in the Wind Waker? How could you not think of OoT when you read it?
