  1. Sure you can! If what you mean is can you change the links in the navigation bars? If that is your question then it is possible. The concept you gotta understand here is that you will only use PHP to generate HTML mark-up to produce an HTML list (ul, dl or ol). Then you would have to use CSS to create the roll-over effects and drop-down menus. There would be no need to use Javascript anywhere in this code.If you want a detailed tutorial just say so and I'll post it. Otherwise, I'll leave it at this.
  2. Um... hmm I think this project should stop. It might be another Nuclear weapon. What I mean is not another WMD but maybe a technology that shouldn't continue any more because it may be harmful. In my opinion, if data is stored in DNA's, wouldn't these bacterias mutate? And there's a good chance for bad mutation that can harm us humans. I don't think we should be doing this. Too much data in the environment seems really creepy. This technology will only benefit terrorists and give them an easier path to take over countries like the US. I'm not sure how but it can and it will happen, if this continues any further.
  3. Yeah ask her out cuz you wouldn't want to regret not knowing what would've happened if she was sincere about it. A girl did that to me and I ignored her. Now I'm regretting what I did because now every time we look at each other she doesn't smile anymore-- and ignores me. So yeah, don't worry about being rejected as long as you know how she really feels then it's all good.
  4. Hm... this lexmark i got right now is pretty cool cuz it's multifunctional (fax, scanner, xerox and printer). The only problem with it is ink. But I've heard good things from canon so maybe I'll try that one next. Thanks.
  5. So right now I am using the Lexmark x5470. I just printed 2 pages worth of colorful pages (starting at 100% full cartridge) and now it shows that I have 50% left of color ink! I've printed 10 pages with the same color and I stilled had a decent amount of ink--and this was 7 years ago. Since this printer can't be returned any more because it's already past the 30 day return policy, I'm going to be stuck with this for a while. However, can anyone recommend a good printer which has long lasting ink (both for color and black). Thanks.
  6. I like the banner, it's pretty good. The background could be a little dimmer because it kinda disturbs the content a bit. As for the navigation and the content, it sucks to be honest. I'd go with what the other guys said, stick to 2-tone colors or somewhere around there as long as it's less colors. If you got this then it's fine.
  7. Hmm... the template is good for school but wouldn't be fit for the general audience. But if you keep practicing and check out professional sites that use HTML and CSS then you'll be on your way to designing good templates. That's what I did and it took me only half a year or less to get the feeling and now I can design like the professionals do--and I'm only still a junior in high school.
  8. Although this is for web developers, this is also recommended for Web Designers. This is a good package that will provide your web needs. The Package:----------------------------1. Eclipse a. PHP Development Tools (PDT) - PHP plugin for Eclipse IDE b. JSEclipse - Javascript plugin for Eclipse IDE c. Built-in HTML/XHTML editor d. Built-in CSS editor2. XAMPP or LAMPP (for linux) - Web Server consists of Apache and MySQL3. GIMP or Adobe Photoshop (recommended for pro quality web design)And that's basically it!An alternative to Eclipse is Aptana Web IDE. It's mostly for developing in Javascript.
  9. An additional note: Separate content from Design, meaning use stylesheets to layout web pages and have pure content in HTML. There should be no attributes in any of the HTML tags that would affect how the page looks--leave it all to stylesheets. These attributes should be used mostly: "class" and "id"Attributes such as "width" "height" "margin" "bgcolor" are a MUST-NOT Apply these styles using CSSOne more thing: Do not use tables to lay out webpages! Use "div" tags as an alternative. The reason behind it is to increase page load. HOWEVER... styling in CSS can be a pain in the *bottom*. Most of the times you won't get the result you wanted, but once you get into it you can produce more precise results.
  10. wait didn;t she already say ur just friends?
  11. I'm using AMD Athlon X2 right now and it's an awesome processor. It's as fast as a Pentium D 2.4ghz processor. I use it both for gaming and programming and it's great. In my opinion, I believe Intel is the best right now *just* because virtually all programs are compatible with it. and with AMD, popular programs don't work with it (however some hacks can make it work). Performance-wise, I think AMD beats Intel. The only thing that makes Intel better than AMD is due to its compatibility with most programs. But if this is overcome by AMD, then it wouldn't be Intel any more.
  12. hmm.. I'm using Ubuntu 7.0.2 right now and it's great! I bet all who posted in this thread who used 6.0.1 obviously upgraded. But just to continue on to this thread, I love Ubuntu Linux! Installation was a breeze. I still use dual-boot because I'm a gamer and my printer is not supported by Linux. I know about WINE and all but not all Windows programs work in it so I choose to stay with using my Windows OS to run them.Ubuntu Feisty is fast and easy! Great OS to use and hopefully catch up to Microsoft.
  13. I don't know man. I like the Ubuntu distro. Well since I'm new to Linux I'd like to keep things as simple as possible. I don't want to use any OS that's time consuming.
  14. oh wow really? Man synaptic manager is that good huh? Well I found downloading it from the PHPMyAdmin site and just installing quite helpful. But I think synaptic method would have been so much easier. Thanks man.
  15. Well for a long time now I've been pretty bugged out by Ubuntu's "blurry" or "smooth" fonts that are so unlike MS's sharp fonts. So I looked up and finally found this page: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=208396 It's a real quick and easy tutorial so for those who like MS fonts then check it out.
  16. Yo man the same thing happened to me. I followed the wrong road though: I didn't ask her cuz I was shy and nothing happened. So... there you go now you know what happens when you don't do anything. So just go for it and ask her out! Don't be scared and just go for it. If I could've went back in time I would've just went for it.
  17. Alright, the way my pc is set up right now is that I have a dual-boot set up (Win2k and Ubuntu). I split my hard drive so that I use 25g for my Windows OS and 50g for my Ubuntu Linux. I would mainly use Windows to play my 2 games (FYI Warrock and Scions of Fate) and then Ubuntu for all my programming purposes (Eclipse PHP,JS,Java, Netbeans and all those other good stuff). Oh yeah, since my "Paperweight" Lexmark X5470 won't work in my Ubuntu Feisty, I installed the driver in my Windows. Basic browsing and word processing will be in Ubuntu. For those who use dual-booting with Windows and Ubuntu, how do you guys use it?
  18. v36rox, did you get X5470 to work? If you did I would completely move to Ubuntu. Hmm... I might as well just stay with dual-boot for perfect gaming.
  19. Well, I got it to work like a few seconds after this post. But I didn't know where to put my files because any files in my htdocs dir woouldn't work. So thanks for ur post. I want to install phpmyadmin (I guess inside this /var/www right?) Can you help me out with this?
  20. Okay, here's the tutorial I keep on finding but won't work: What I can't get to do is to do this command line: It says there's no file or directory called "/opt" >> I tried creating a folder (which I believe has to be in the file system folder "/") but I can't. So what's the deal? How are others able to do it?
  21. I agree. The best way is to find a way to get Flash 8 (..at least MX) and that's the best way to learn from. The other programs won't help. I know I wish they would come out with open source version for it. But I think there's a community group that's already working on developing one so that's good news.
  22. Yep! This method does work. I tried it a few times before. The first time I did it was actually by accident and it still worked. LOL. Really do this cuz it means a lot.
  23. Make sure you use tableless CSS2 layouts because using tables for layouts produces slow load times.
  24. Wow, it's cool that you got ur guts up.
  25. Obviously we can't STOP Global Warming. But we can help slow it down. One way is to develop alternative materials that would emit less pollution to the environment. We are already in the process and I just hope we can use these technological advances in this lifetime. Using water for electricity instead of fossil fuels is the right way to go. Wind power, solar power are good too. I think the main factor that is speeding up the global warming process is the use of fossil fuels because of CO2 emissions. If we can reduce this compound, then global warming will slow down.Global warming is part of nature. The reason why we're so concerned about it now is that we're helping to speed it up. Yes it's happened many times before, but were there cars back then? factories releasing tons of gas in the air? Was there electricity back then? Obviously the answer to that is no.So don't just say that it's no big deal just because it's happened before and nothing bad happened. Think about the technological boom in "20 YEARS!" Technology has advanced so much and it won't stop. If we don't raise awareness about global warming caused by these technologies we use, then soon this earth will not be a safe place to live in.
