  1. Nope. This is the first time I'm hearing something like this. Why do you have the download window turned on anyways ? I've installed the downbar extension, which simply shows me a little download bar on the statusbar.. And I've completely turned the download window off. You should take it off once, and then also delete the profile which you'll most likely find under, Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles - wipe this off or else your old settings will always stay. Install a fresh copy and reconfigure it... Also after you've uninstalled it, run some registry cleaner tool and or else manually wipe out all firefox references in the registry...something might have made your profile/registry keys go corrupt. Only after doing the above steps, reinstall a fresh copy and see if the problems persists - I don't think they will. I've dumped a whole bunch of junky extensions on my firefox, just to test 'em out.. none of them managed to corrupt it in anyways - except maybe slowed the startup process down a triffle bit.
  2. Port number is not required. Your IRC client will automatically find the next free port in the range (6667-7002) and log on.. You don't really need to specify any on your own.
  3. On my part too all I got to say is STUPID WOMAN AND A MEGA-IDIOT ONE AT THAT - she's not even a 1/100th of the astrologer she claims to be - coz in 99.99% of any given horoscope methodology in the world depend only on the effects of movements of stars. Comets come nowhere into the picture... Comets are one of the most irregular elements - if our future was "governed" by them.. well.. aah.. I leave the rest to your imagination. Any educated astrogoler would just laugh his a$$ off at this. It's just another publicity gimmick - probably she feels wretched and neglected and wants to gain popularity. Nothing more than that.

  5. I came in a bit late. Dude what's wrong with your hosting service? It says "Account suspended dure to violation of TOS" - what did you do to bravehosting ?? Come on - lets have the cat out of the bag.. You must have really done something nasty to get booted from there in just a couple of day !! Let us in on the fun story too
  6. When compared to IE - firefox does load slower. But that is because the whole executable has to be loaded into RAM and then run - unlike IE, where almost 70% of the code is already in the RAM .. Windows makes sure that part of code is ever-present in the RAM, and that's what your Windows Explorer also uses in the background for faster operation. What you see when you load IE, is NOT a full-blown browser, but a mere GUI to those API calls which are already residing in the memory. That explains the faster loads. If firefox was allowed to pre-load a massive part of its code right at runtime using one of the system level privilege rungs, then the load time would be almost the same as IE if not faster.
  7. I've been developing SW on VB/C#.NET for ages - but only desktop applications. I wouldn't even think of going the www way with asp.net - when it comes to writing applications for the internet - nothing like PHP/MySQL combo.. never never touch asp.net .. that, along with activex controls (which invariably come your way when you design asp pages) - are utter crap.. and potentially damaging to your system in a wide number of way.. apart from the fact that you need IE to view most of such pages properly.
  8. Imagemagick is usually installed in /usr/bin - assuming that you're running a linux server. But in your case it seems you've installed these components on a Windows based system - in such cases, you do not need to create folders of the format /usr/whatever ... that is atypical to Linux ONLY. For windows - you'd have to download the windows binaries and use the accompanying installers to install them to whatever paths you feel comfortable and then update the changes in your config. files for these softwares. This entirely depends on you - and for you, I think, the best bet will be to install them to their default paths - unless you keep track of where which one is going.
  9. Topic closed. If you have any more queries PM me.. I'll reopen it for further discussions.
  10. Supposing you have 2 mp3 files - each of 5MB in size.. So anytime anybody downloads those two - a total of 10MB is deducted from your monthly BW quota. Now multiply that by the number of people visiting your site and downloading the same two - and you'll get a figure telling you how many downloads are needed to exhaust your bandwidth.Or in other words - divide the total monthly bandwidth, by the total amount of files on your site - that'll tell you how many people can browse through your whole site and download all your files before you run out.
  11. Firefox all the way Several reasons Free & Opensource Immensely extensible - very easy to create extensions with minimal knowledge of XUL & Javascript 1000 times more secure (relatively) that 99.9% of other browsers in the market Security patches are announced the moment a hole is discovered Huge online community & support forums Extremely lightweight - loads in a jiffy Tabbed browsing - the best of all And the list goes on..........
  12. Heh... okay here's my would-have-been-rant ... I'd made my flight booking back to Calcutta, India for this coming Friday, 8th of July. Today morning I went to Bangkok to pick-up my ticket - and guess what!!! They were shipping me off to Jakarta, Indonesia instead... BEAT THAT!!!Anyways, I had this Thai friend with me - so both of us threw up a massive fuss in the travel agents office and as a result I got a ticket for the right next day - i.e. 9th July, Saturday and that too at 2,000Baht or $50 less than the original price as a compensation for their stupid mistake...Heh.. so far so good Seems like this is going to be a good week. Am keeping my fingers crossed.
  13. Nope. What kind of errors? You need to quote the error messages in order for us to spot the exact cause and try and solve it. I've been using Firefox always with this board - never had a single problem...Secondly: Make sure your posts are heading for the right forum. The Introductions forum is not for discussing computer related problems. Topic Moved.
  14. What messages did you receive after creating your account ? From what I can see your hosting token hasn't been spent. You need to go to https://support.xisto.com/ and go through the account creation process once again if your subdomain is not working. The cPanel username doesnt have any problems with any kinds of names you enter, as long as it doesnt contain spaces and non-standard characters and is upto 8 characters long. I didn't quite understand this.. If you own a domain name and wish that to be linked to your asta account, you need to enter that in the domain/subdomain part and disregard any warnings you might get about this domain not being part of Xisto or Xisto. Apart from that, you need to go to your domains Control Panel and set the nameserver records to that of Xisto: ns1.astahost.com and ns2.astahost.com Your subdomain is working - so what exactly did you mean by Xisto not reporting your site to exist ? For more information on the steps to be followed during account creation process, read this: http://forums.xisto.com/topic/82622-topic/?findpost=1064294415 Regards, m^e
  15. Your credits must have surely dipped below the required margin. I ran the credits cycle again and it told me your account was functioning. So once you had 9 credits - it must have come back up automatically after an hours time. The credits checking cycle runs every hour - so you have to give it that much time...
  16. Third option - you can take it to another breed of HD repairing shop who specialize in recovering almost lost data. They own these absolutely wonderful devices which can read the magnetic polarity on individual molecules in the coating of your HDD Platter and can sometimes even read off deleted and zero-wiped data.. There are both legal & illegal varieties of these shops and of course the later comes much cheaper - but I've no idea about their whereabouts
  17. Yup - what Neverseen said is perfectly correct. Infact, that's one of the best methods of settling copyright disputes - it's your best proof too. Nothing can beat this down if you have this envelope on you...Also - to add some more spice to it, you could request the postmaster at your post office to TIME-DATE STAMP all the pages of your material as well as EMBOSS them with the POSTAGE INSIGNIA before packing it all up in the envelope. That stands up as the ultimate proof - of course for this you've to incurr some extra expenses.. but it's worth way more than later crying on spilt milk.Regards,m^eP.S. - Thanks for that bit of info Rejected .. yah, I was indeed in doubt about the Copyright 2004-2005 part.. I always used to think if copyright expires in such short terms, then how the hell do you retain it for much longer periods !!
  18. Heh... the size for swap is matter of big debate - has always been, will always be.. I wouldn't even go into all that for windows - coz for windows there's no swapping rule whatsoever - it's all left to it's mercy. But for linux, it's generally considered a good practise to have swap size max 1.5 times your ram. Also it's better is the swap partitions are fixed at a number which is multiple of 4. This makes optimal usage of swap space, coz the linux kernel writes out memory pages approx. 4KB in size. If the swap space isn't a multiple of 4, the last few kilobytes may go waste.. lol.. not that I care really Would you believe that even with this whopping amount of RAM, Windows managed to make my system cry and literally BEG for a reboot today morning ??? I was putting it through a stress test - and had let it run for 4 days straight out.. And I usually do some heavy unmonitored music+sw downloads at night.. So today morning I fire up m monitor and try starting Visual Studio - everything almost freezes.. Bringing up task manager I see, that my system has exactly around 560K of FREE RAM OUT OF 1.5GB !!!!! ... All that were running were FlashGet and a couple of mp3 downloads... URGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!! Anyways - it reminded me of what I always go around saying... Linux: What Windows will NEVER BE !
  19. lol you dolt.. how do u expect to get the old one - when you joined asta when the new look was already well set in...
  20. Whoaa... nice Sights and sounds of France.. do you have some more to share with us ? Your commentary is particularly appealing and makes the pictures way more interesting than they'd have been with just a simple caption :PRegards,m^e
  21. Hehe.. I was going to pay arnd 8,000Thai Baht or about $200 for the 1Gig Plate.. BUT - this shop I buy my stuff from always has a raffle for anything you buy worth more than 3000baht.. I guess it was my ultra lucky day - I picked up a coupon for 50% DISCOUNT :PSo it came for a meagre $100 hea hea hea hea..
  22. As far as I know, if you split up the partitions so that each OS gets it's own indepedent primary partition, you wouldn't have a problem. Both 2000 and XP should detect each other and automatically create a multi-boot option in your Boot Menu and write the information to your MBR. Just give Win2K it's own parition - the problems start when you try to share the same partition among both.
  23. Nope - it's always been like that. There's a certain feature built into the hosting system, that checks whether you credits are below 30 or not.If below 30 - it's much more lenient towards you - and gives you a big bulk of credits for your posts. However, once you cross thrity, the same post and any subsequent posts would fetch you far less credits. This applies to all. The system simply gives you a push through when you're below thirty to help you make up for a months time - but not after that.. Actually the after 30 credit rating is the real one against which everyone's posts are evaluated. The below 30 scheme is there to help out the new members and for those who haven't been able to post for a while - to quickly raise their credits count back.Regards,m^e
