  1. Whenever my internet connection goes down, I try all of the things customer support always asks if I have done. Restart the computer, modem everything like that. Then I check their answerphone thingy (you know the press 1 press 2 crap) to see if they are having any technical difficulties. If they are I wait, after a few hours I feel that they have had enough time to try to fix the problem and I ring. If there aren't any technical difficulties I ring them. I would ask them what is going on and what they are doing to fix it, remind them that I am a paying customer and that I pay for this service, asking for a supervisor really freaks them out if they aren't co-operating with you *hint* *hint* *nudge* *nudge*. Then just do what they tell you. I would be annoyed of having no internet connection, but I'd try to find a way around it. Like going to the library, neighbours, friend's houses who have the internet etc. Yes I'm addicted to the net, so I would find a way to get around having no connection
  2. I think you did the right thing by killing the site, I mean if no one was posting then whats the point of you posting when no one is paying attention. I think you might have made a mistake by merging with another site. Merges nearly always end up in disaster. Either some members don't like each other, or everything is changed and some people can't deal with it. If you every start up again a really cool site is Wonder Forum. On the first page there should be a article on how to advertise your forum. You need to build your forum before you advertise. No one likes a forum being advertised with no people in it. First get your family and friends together to start posting on your forums. Before you start advertising you should have at least 5 topics in each forum. It doesn't matter if they are made by you or other people. After you have done that you can start advertising. If you still have e-mail addresses or contact details for people on the previous forums then you should contact them with a short e-mail, private message, instant message etc, just telling them about your forum and what has changed. Then you might attract people to your forum. In your case you were probably best to pull the plug, especially since you had a domain name. However the only key to sucess is perseverance.
  3. First of all, I love the background, It looks like an explosion of love or something - very cool. I also love the hearts. There are a couple of things you could improve on though, The text is a little hard to read. I think day should have a capital D. The T in To looks a little more like a J than a T at first. And after the To I think there should be a :Overall I love it. If you still have the layers, I would love a version without text
  4. I love it I'd just like to add that I can't see the text (well not very well). I only looked for it because DjLuki mentioned it, you might want to make the text colour a bit more contrasting to the other colours, like gray or something like that.Overall I love it though, well done. Have you made any other graphics? If you have I would love to see them.
  5. Thanks for removing the ads and trying to make the experience better for members, I didn't realise it until you just posted it now. That has swayed my mindset at the moment and I'm going to stay with Xisto even with my bad encounter earlier today.@BuffaloHELP I'm sorry for invading this topic and letting my own adgenda get in the way. I'll make sure it won't happen again in the future.
  6. Like you I also hate ads. Small ad's like little text google ones are fine for me. But big animated flashing banners really get on my nerves. They all offer you something for free then link you to a site for cheap meds, lottery sites all of those scammy ones. Really it's false advertising. In my country New Zealand they recently started to put video advertisments on New Zealand pages. Like our news sites, ISP sites. They would pop up on the side of the page and then start playing a video advertisment (like the ones on tv) wasting your bandwith, it was disgusting.I understand some people need to pay for their hosting, but they aren't going to get any visitors to their site if they have really crappy off putting advertisments on their site. Thanks for making a topic that I can let off some steam in
  7. It would have been funny if it was actually real, but come on how long has Sony been in this business before? You really expect them to make a mistake like this? Their machines couldn't have done that, it would be impossible and even if it did happen quality control would have picked it up. They would have checked the console before displaying it I would think, to make sure it was perfect.Oh my gosh, I just read the posts above me, are you people blind or something, or just hit the reply button, on the first page someone clearly stated that it was photoshopped, read the whole topic before you post, its in the rules, at least the first page, come on.
  8. I lost 30+ credits, not a piddly number like 5, now I have to post 30+ posts just to get enough credits to apply for hosting. Anyway you still didn't answer my question - weither hosting credits could be credited back to people like me who lost 30 of them, thats a whole month of hosting, lost, that I'll never see again.
  9. Yesterday I already posted quality posts. They have been deleted. Now you're telling me to build them back up, I don't think its good enough. I'm sure closing the boards for a couple of hours would have been better then deleting 1000+ posts, topics and members like me. I made around 35 hosting credits yesterday and now they are gone. How am I ment to remember what they were to repost them?
  10. Hey, Windows Vista was pubically realised worldwide yesterday my time. Will you be upgrading to Vista? Have you upraded to Vista? I haven't upgraded to it and probably won't. The only time we would get it is if we bought a PC and Windows XP and this PC are doing fine at the moment. The price tag eventually should go down to a price that people would actually be prepared to pay at the moment the most expensive package is around $1000. Most companies will be waiting around a year for everything to settle down before they will plan to upgrade to it. It looks quite cool but I haven't seen many screenshots of it. I'm just wondering if Apple will have to update their boot camp software for Windows Vista. I think they will be, but it will be a while I think as they are still in beta with the Windows XP version of Boot Camp. It doesn't look anything amazing to me, it just looks like they have improved on Windows XP. Heres 100 reasons you'll be speachless with Windows Vista, I'm looking through it now. Click here.
  11. I use Hotmail, Yahoo and I use my ISP's e-mail account and my previous ISP's e-mail account. Don't forget G-mail. Probably my favourite would be Gmail, the only reasons why I have the other ones is that many different people have those addresses. If I could only have one it would be G-mail, because of its large storage space, freshness, saves your chats, saves e-mails to the same person together in a conversation, it just makes life alot easier. Don't forget how it was really the first e-mail service to take the full advantage of AJAX.I don't really have much contact with Yahoos interface because I get all of that e-mail through Pop3 into Incredimail. Although I have to send e-mail through their web interface because my ISP slows down outgoing e-mail through and other mail service other than its own. I find it easy to use and they also have taken advantage of AJAX, but I think only beta users can use it, (I'm one of them)Hotmal would probably be low on my list, the only reason why I have it is because I used to think that hotmail and msn addresses were the only ones that could be used with MSN (now know as Windows Live Messenger), but now you can use any addresss, I now use my Yahoo address, so the reason why I have hotmail is that most of my previous contacts on MSN have that address and I can't be bothered updating it. One thing I don't like about it is the low storage space and that if the account is inactive they will delete it in 30 days, which means that you have to log in every month, even if your not using it. They have taken advantage of AJAX now renaming their service Windows Live Mail, I also think this is a beta program, (I'm in the testing).I don't really use my ISP's e-mails at all, they are only there because some people know my dads e-mail and thats the reason why we pay to keep that one, other wise they are just their for the ISP's newsletters and random stuff, because they havn't been given out to anyone else.So my final verdict would have to be Gmail, then Yahoo, Hotmail and the the ISP's.
  12. Wouldn't it have been better to temporarly turn the board off so there was no chance of something like this happening? Thats what happened at other boards I belong to while they were upgraded and it went perfectly. Maybe that should happen next updrade, so that youre not turning new members away like me, who lost their account, all of their posts, all of their topics and all of their hosting credits.
  13. Could hosting credits not be credited back to the people who lost them?
  14. I made all of my topics and posts yesterday, which means I am stuffed. My cpanel username was going to be Quantage I think, but I never activated hosting. I searched for matt2 in the member list and I only got this account up in the results, I checked some of the topics I posted in yesterday all of my posts are gone.Because I already know that theres nothing that can be done, please change my forum username back to "Matt2", I'll start posting a bit, but I'm seriously considering not applying for hosting again if everything is going to get lost the day after I create it.
  15. I'm presuming that there were no back-ups made
  16. So what does this mean for me? That I will have to get my post count up again, to get 30 credits. If I do I will seriously consider not reapplying for hosting here.
  17. Hi,Yesterday I joined the forums on an account named "matt2", I started posting and then requested hosting, a short time later my hosting request was approved and I was really happy with the service. I received the e-mail with the link to the Process page, but because it was late at night I went to bed. i have been out this morning and a couple of minutes ago I tried logging into the forums with matt2. It didn't work. I thought I had to activate my hosting so I went to the process page and typed in my details. The screen came up and then it displayed INCORRECT USERNAME OR PASSWORDI knew the password and username were right, so I have come to the conclusion that my account might have been deleted. Please help me because I wanted to set up my website today.Sorry for creating this extra account, it should be deleted when the issue is sorted out.Thankyou for your time and great hosting,Matt.
