Tanks are easily destroyed with Zerg Queens and spawing broodlings. A couple of scourges to blow the observers up and then lurkers are great for an early attack on terrans and Protoss without any detection devices. If time allows it, defilers are great with all technologies, with clouds and hydras under it to get carriers or even guardians. With Consume defilers regain energy, and the blood rain slowly destroys buidlings and lowers enemies' life points. -
I think the tendency is leaving all physical devices behind, and everything is usually stored online in megaservers. Everyday you get more and more "free space" to upload or keep your e-mails, photos, and all. P2P networks - as much as big companies hate them- are here for good and they share material which was usually on cds and DVDs. I've also heard that the new PCs will come without hard disks, and will all be done through internet connection. So I don't think there's much future in security devices for physical storing systems, at least for the everyday user.

I can only think about who will this blood be available to. I mean no tonly in terms of regions and countries, but also of ecomomic levels. As with any medical discovery or scientific advance, only people that can afford huge amounts of money have access to it. So even if there IS a cure for cancer, or AIDS, I don't think it will be the end of those diseases.

There are many people that believe there may be a chance of finding another civilization like ours, more or less advanced. Much of what science has been doing is looking for earth-like planets where conditions are similar to our planet, in the hope either of finding traces of life or finding new places for human settlements. It is believed that if conditions are met (conditions found in Earth), life can appear as it did in our planet. And eventually, this would lead to evolution and advanced organisms, together with a form of civilization. Then of course comes the discussion of communication/confrontation with this civilization.I usually see this, but I sometimes think why it seems this is the only way to finding other beings in the universe. There is so much we don't know about everything, and I don't see why we can't think about other possibilities. I think there may be beings living in conditions opposite to ours - for example, take the organisms living out of metane and without sunlight in the bottom of our own oceans. And why do they have to have bodies at all...? They might be of pure energy, or pure time... They might not even need "starships" to travel space...Of course, it's easier to think about friends/enemies that we can at least see, because we rely on our senses for our experience of the world, of the universe. But what if that's not enough?

Source : http://www.foxnews.com/story/2007/04/26/earth-like-planet-discovered-orbiting-nearby-star.html It makes me think of all the science-fiction stories I've read about humans living somewhere else in the universe. It seems it's becoming everyday less fiction and more science. Although there's still no possibility to travel those distances in a human lifetime, it may be like some stories about families of settlers that travel together and only their children or grandchildren get to arrive to the planet. Earth-like is also a very wide concept, requiring right temperatures, gravity, and the possibility to have liquid water. From then on, I think everything else is considered to be likely to be "terraformed" to suit human needs.

Free 3D modelling packages
Punkcat replied to helix1405241470's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
You can find Gmax here Turbosquid, check under Game Tools. You only have to register and you'll get the key to your mail, and download it, together with help files, tutorials, and some free models and textures. It also has a forum for support, and if you want to buy for $9.95, quite cheap im ny opinion, there are several packages ready made for games with over 40 models each with people, cars, tanks, guns, helicopters, etc. -
Well mine came with a DVD burner AND a Power DVD (player), why don't you get a free DVD player from donwload.com or any similar site and try with that. AND also get the latest codecs.
-
Are you using a physical DVD or an image from your hard drive? If it's from the physical drive, DVDs have different tracks according to the origin, and DVD drives can only switch back and forth between these different regions only a couple of times. Once you have spent the switches, it keeps the last one and you cannot switch back again. Each DVD drive comes with a player, you can't read it directly from VLC or Media Player Classic. So even if it's an image, maybe you can get some DVD players from download.com, such as Easy DVD Player. It may also be a codec problem, you should try and get the latest codecs from codecguide.com, the K-lite pack has a bunch of codecs that may solve your problem.

How To Play World Of Warcraft For Free! 100% legal
Punkcat replied to Huntzoru's topic in Computer Gaming
Personally I think that with over 6 million subscribers Blizzard wouldn't care less to have a few hundred playing like this. I remember a post somewhere saying that Microsoft thought pirate copies of their software was somewhat beneficial to them because it helped the users get to know the products, and in the long run if they needed support they would go and buy the registered version. So in this case it might be like this. If a person plays in a LAN with a group he will find it's a lot of fun, but quite difficult to gather always a constant group, and might consider subscribe at least once. What is more, there are thousands of private Starcraft & Diablo servers all over the world, and I've never heard of Blizzard doing anything about that. In fact, there's a huge server in my country with a couple thousand people and it's always full. In a way, it increases the fans of the game all over the world, and everything is revolving around their games, so in the end it doesn't hurt them. -
Honouring The Dead VA Tech Massacre

I absolutely agree with you. I don't live in the States. From an outside point of view, I see a country that is giving away free green cards everywhere, inviting people from other countries to become US citizens - I see this ad for example everytime I open Yahoo Mail. This is the "American Dream" open to these "new" citizens, just that they will never be "real" US citizens. Most Americans, like SilverFox, are afraid of Asians, Arabs, Latinos, black people, and the list becomes endless. At the same time, The US is engaged in a foreign policy to take meassures against possible enemies and take war to their countries instead of having it in their own country. Now, nobody mourns people who die in those countries, just because they are citizens of a country that seems a possible threat to the US. And in the end, US society is not attacked from outside, but from inside. In this case was an Asian, but in many other cases, everyday, it's an American shooting against another. What I can see is that this society is crumbling from the inside, like a statue with sand feet. -
Is there any possiblility to activate the support for libxslt in the server? I'm working on a project with XML and the related stylesheets XSL, in scripts processing bibliography. Thanks in advance

I've never heard about this, having the mother the only rights to the embryos... And I don't see why. The father is no less a parent for not carrying a baby in his womb, and even up to the freezing stage, both parents have done exactly the same.
-
In Argentina a new baby girl was born 10 years after her twin was born. After fertilization, the embryo was kept frozen in hydrogen for 10 years until their parents decided to have the new baby. They say it's a carefully planned family, and they didn't have any moral or religious issues with it (they are Jew). It is a new landmark in Argentinean reproductive medicine, and itâs the first case of successful pregnancy with frozen embryos (for the doctors these are called pre-embryos) In this specific case, the couple had problems conceiving babies, so in 1996 they turned to assisted fertilization and through this technique 8 pre-embryos were obtained, 4 of which were transferred and one implanted in the motherâs uterus. The other 4 were frozen slowly until they reached 196 degrees below zero. The fist transfer was successful and the mother gave birth to a boy that recently turned 10. His sister â technically twin â was born 10 years later, because the 4 embryos were kept in the freezer and just last year the couple decided to have a new baby. The embryos were unfrozen and transferred, and finally the new baby girl was born. The mother is now 48. It is an unprecedent "miracle"of the science, and this could be the future of family planning and may raise many types of questions. For example, it's not still regulated in any way the time an embryo should be kept. What if the parents die? and how many embryos should be kept after in-vitro fertilization? According to the medical association, the criopreservation avoids the disposal of non transferred pre-embryos and avoids multiple pregnancy. But then they call this state of pre-embryo until it is implanted in the motherâs womb, and from then on they call it embryo. Arenât they already human beings on their own right? Link (in Spanish)

Google Adsense program doesn't pay with Paypal. You can get a check after you have a minimum of $100, or you can set up a banking account to recieve it directly there, but everything you receive has to be declared and subject to income taxes. Another program that I know does pay via Paypal is Chitika minimalls. I'm not sure exacly how it works, but it may be also set up for page impressions and pay per click for contextual advertising.

Many of the saints or Holy men in history didn't read the Bible, and they are still considered great examples to follow. Many of the Apostles weren't versed people in the Bible, and still were able to live a Christian life. On the other hand, many philosophers and intellectuals have read the Bible completely, and still don't consider themselves Christians or lead christian lives. Mainly to be considered a Christian is a question of FAITH, something that was never mentioned in this post. Even if you read only some parts of the Bible, if you read it under the eyes of faith, it will be more fruitful than reading it just to say you've read it all. Also, many simple people lead simple lives, and only need a simple christian concept. Love God, be kind with everybody. You can't say that a person that does that is not Christian. At the same time, there are people that need more understanding, a deeper knowledge of the word of God, of the sense of life. They can read and study the bible in depth, and that helps them be a better chistian. None of these two types is better than the other. Now people that think and fell the same get together and organize themselves. Now, to consider ALL organised religion as wrong for me would mean that any type of organization, religious or not, is wrong, because it's only dealing with leaders controling the masses, and that would apply to any organized group, present, past or future, of any kind. The same would be for political groups too for example. And it's also reflecting that man can only be inherently bad :"there can't be good leaders".

I think the only option is to get paranoid. I mean, if you know this kind of stuff is more and more common, then why would you go and accept a drink from an "almost" stranger... even if it's a date, I rather appear less "cool" and protect myself better by rejecting anything I consider dangerous. It is a question of awareness, and many people, girls in this case, always know that there dangers out there, but " it will never happen to me". Now if as I say, you turn on your "paranoid" side, and think "it will most likely happen to me", you'll be more aware all the time, paying attention to more details, and you'll stop being so naive. The same is: Anyone can be run over by a car, but if every time you cross each street you look around, listen carefully and pay attention, you'll be less likely to be run over than another person that crosses carelessly and even stops or sits in the middle of the street unaware of the world around.

Another 3D software that I used for some time is Caligari GameSpace. It is, as the name implies, specific for 3D games. It comes with all the 3D features of its big brother, TrueSpace, for modelling, texturing and surfacing, rendering and bone animation, and with scripting support. But GameSpace has some game-related import-export formats already included without using external plugins, that come really handy with lots of common game engines. For example, Conitec A6,Blitz3D ,Torque and DirectX (.X) for DarkBASIC. Then you can directly modify Quake 2 & 3 (md2 and md3) models, Half Life, unreal, and export through included Milkshape - Genesis 3D BDV, Genesis 3D MOT, Unreal / UT 3D, The Sims SKN, GenEdit 3dt exporter, No-one Lives Forever ABC, Vampire : The Masquerade NOD, RAW, etc, plus the major import/exports 3ds (max), obj, lwo, dxf. Another thing is that is very light in terms of memory and disk space, compared to Maya/LW/3dSmax that take up 2GB, Gamespace only takes 50MB. Also the price is around $300, so another good point for Gamespace. It has many advantages, but I still don't know if it comes to be a professional tool for 3D development on its own. IF you want, you can try a free unlimited version, GamespaceLight, with only limitation in exporting (only .X).

I don't think there's such thing as someone not letting another "advance in life". Even more if there's such thing as remembering previous lives. I suppose you'll remember what was on your way in your past life and don't repeat it Anyway, I also think that even if some people could live a thousand lives, and remember each of them, they still would continue doing the same things. For that matter, when people have a long life and really can remember the past (not talking about past lives, but past years) and all they've lived and everything they've gone through, I don't see them changing or improving, or being better... I would rather live a longer life, rather than living many short different ones. If not, I would like to be able to learn form whatever I've done, no matter how small in life, good or bad, take the best to improve it and the worst to remember and not repeat it. About the good things, you can forget them or not, it won't matter as if you did it well then you know that you will do it well next time, it's already in you. With the bad things it's different, you can't forget and start afresh because you most most most likely do it bad or worse next time. Usually we tend to forget the bad things because that makes us feel bad, and makes us suffer again and relive again what we've done wrong. But it's something necessary, to really make a change in life. I always repeat to myself that whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I think people tend to believe that to suffer is wrong and bad. It is not. It is the best source of life knowledge. You learn from your mistakes, not from your good choices.

I've come across this site, GiveAway Of the Day, and every day they give a shareware program for free. Usually these programs have a 30 days' time limitation, after that you have to buy it or uninstall it as it becomes "crippled" or useless. If you download the program from this site, you get a complete licence. The only catch is that you have to download, install and activate the program that same day it's given for free, else you get back the "demo" version. So if for any reason you format your disk, you can't have the full version back either. Apart from this drawback, you can get good applications, some are bad, some are really good, but hey, it's free! They also have another site for shareware games: https://game.giveawayoftheday.com/ and mostly I get to download more from these than from the application site. The games are great, and as they're full, you get all the levels for the game, and not the first for or five usually for demos. The same drawback for downloading and activating, but they're good fun to play for a while. Another thing is that according to the site the applications come free of viruses and spyware, and so far I haven't had any problems with them.

For all I know, I think you can download a full trial version of Flash from Macromedia, fully functional for 30 days, and you can do whatever you want with it. I don't know about the Photoshop solution, I use Photoshop 7 and it doesn't have that option, maybe a newer version does. But buying Photoshop for converting a single image I don't think it's ok...Another option could be to try and change the PHP-Nuke header script so that you can add an image instead of a SWF file, so you can put there any image you have.

I still enjoy playing Starcraft, and what I like most about it, apart from the great playability and amazing races to choose from, is the great storyline it has behind it. The campaigns that walk you through the three races make you love each of them. When you first start with the Terran campaign, you begin to hate those "bugs" (Zergs), and those strange Protoss beings. Then when you're playing with the Zergs, you love the collective intelligence, so many and each not important as much as the whole race survival. Later on you play the Protoss and you're amazed at their loyalty and great technologies. I couldn't wait for the expansion and the new campaigns, and couldn't help to love Kerrigan as a hybrid and queen of the Zergs. From them all I like Zergs best, because of that collective race concept, that differs from all the rest of the races, in this game and others. The map editor is great too, and with some other programs you may find, you can get really cool mods for the game. We could make Devourers fire land missiles, Valkyries nuke, or Broodlings fire orange clouds and multiply themselves - invencibles. For me it's still the best RTS game ever.

I agree in that today the games are very graphically intense and they try to be as close to the "real thing" as possible. New graphic cards allow to include particle systems and effects, and together with soundFX and 3D surround sound makes them oustanding. But many are so "real"-like, that at the end they all end up being similar. What old games had was a sense of irreality, of cartoon-like graphics and either a great story-line or mind-breaking puzzles. In a way it is like old and movies. Nost films nowadays are all special effects and almost no argument, no character development, even no dialogues! Everything is explicit and blunt. But old films had to relay on dialogues, a good plot, and suspense, things weren't openly shown - monsters, situations or even sex...I enjoy old games very much, and usually look for old games on the net- so if you have a good link for old games repositories, please share!
-
I've also heard that many people from Blizzard staff, the ones that gave birth to StarCraft, WarCraft and Diablo storylines and concepts have gone. They haven't produced a whole new game concept for many, many years now, and have only developed what they had as big game hits - many of their games (and versions) were considered "the game of the year" in the most important gaming sites and magazines. That may be the reason why we only get expansions or updates or patches for the old games. From another point of view, I don't think Blizzard would care less about that, having SIX MILLION MONTHLY SUBSCRIBERS, paying around $14 each, you do the math how much they get only monthly.... So why should they bother to make something new - and probably not so good - if they have found where the golden eggs come from.

The next generation of CSS, which will be CSS3, will allow for many solutions for the headaches designers have today. For example: -Hue/Saturation/Lightness values for colors -opacity for colors -multicolumn support (for a way round it, try Yahoo yui CSS Grids) -round corners for boxes -drop shadow for boxes and text For more info about this, try CSS3.info But remember that all CSS are just recomendations, and not a standard, so even whent CSS3's fully documented and released, it doesn't mean that all browsers will integrate it all in their rendering.

3 Column Css Layout I am having some problems
Punkcat replied to Quatrux's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I don't know if this can be of any help, but I always had the same problem to create designs similar to tables but using CSS only, until I came across the Grid Css layout from the Yahoo yui. Yahoo provides a set of css that you can use freely and supports any amount of columns you can think of. The method they use is creating nesting grids. For example, if you want to have a side menu and main content, you just have two divs, and have their width in percentages. for example: #menudiv{width:30%} #maincontent{width:55%} -<<< to allow for some safe space between them. In case you need 3 columns, for example a main menu to the left, main content and a menu to the right, instead of having three divs floating, you subdivide the main content in two, giving each div a percentage too. So you can have : And the content adjusts to different resolutions and window sizes. I hope this can help with what you're looking for, if you want to try them out here's the link for the Yahoo CSS Grids There you can also have a way to configure the grids with variable or fixed page widths, and the CSS already have the hacks for IE, which as usual, doesn't display correctly many CSS compliant sites. In case you are interested, Yahoo also offers a whole set of AJAX based scripts for your site, plus some examples to see them implemented. Here you can visit our site Lambda Factory (still under construction) where I have used the 3 column grid for the layout. Good luck!
