  1. WOw!! Holy cow. I disagree with you a bit there my friend, but I can totally understand your position. OK...so let's take a look at our darling little sweetheart and see how it's come to this. She started off at a RIDICULOUSLY young age, during one of the biggest bursts of spoon-fed, bubblegum music EVER. She was handmade by all of the boyband/teen-girl producers trolling around the country at the time. To call her an "artist" or "musician" is really a stretch...she was cute and could kind of sing, so they hauled her into a studio, plopped her in front of a mic and had her vomit out whatever they had written 10 minutes ago. Then they synthesized everything, packaged it and sent it to the stores as the "latest sensation" and Brit was born. She wasn't alone and there were probably 10 other girls with similar talent, waiting in the wings (until the public got bored or she burned out like every other child star) but this girl somehow got business savvy and managed to ride the wave WAY longer than most other folks and probably a lot longer than she should have. She managed to make the transition from watered down kid pop to 20 something pop music without really missing a beat. But again, she wasn't alone...and right behind her were other clones that had started using something she'd tabled for a LONG time...sex. You might remember (or not) all of the hooplah about her still being a "vigin" [technical virgin anyone? lol] and "saving herself for marriage" and all that other garbage. At the time, we were just entering the whole 'celibacy until marriage' thing that was becomine vogue (thank you George Bush..NOT) and, still being VERY business savvy, she tacked herself onto that image and tried to keep her teen fans while appealing to an audience closer to her age. It was a razor walk...one slip to either side and she'd buy the farm. But it paid off...kids loved her, parents loved her and she gave just enough eye candy to keep those in early college years interested. It was never meant to last though. In the end, the saucier competition finally started to steal to spotlight and in order for her to retain something for herself, she had to go full bore with the exotic dancer routine - and so began the slippery slide to "yesterday's star". It probably began with the whole "I'm not a virgin, no wait, I still am, no maybe I'm not" tease she did with the press. Then a disasterous marriage to try and save face. Then some kids to keep the "family values" folks at bay. It all added up to one horrendous formula -- she'd made the sole issue of her career her sexuality and somewhere along the line the music just disappeared. Then she woke up one day, found herself in a loveless marriage with two kids and no income...hardly the stellar existence she'd probably imagined for herself. And that brings us to today and comments like the one above. She brought this on herself by making a HUGE issue out of nothing...sex. Now the girl with the blonde hair and pearly whites is splattered all over every tabloid with various (horrific) crotch shots and all kinds of other nonsense. Her bedroom antics with her husband, her preference for partying over parenting...most of that stuff is pure rubbish, but behind every story like that there's a nickel of truth and sadly, that nickle has cost her a career and her sanity. I don't think she's a ****....she's no different from 99.9% of other women her age...she just made the poor choice to make an issue of her intimate life. I don't think she's a bad person, certainly not warranting unjustified hatred. But she is one messed up little noodle right now and desperately needs to step out of the public eye, pull it together and start living like a normal human being. If she does that NOW and puts herself back on track, she might have a chance of a career later down the line, but not now. In case no one has told her yet, I'll say it here. Her career as a pop star is OVER and, frankly, no one is interested in the remaining portions of her life, save for idle gossip and so forth. She was never a musician to begin with...and spent the last part of her success lip synching for bad performances and horrible commercials. She needs to pick up and instrument, actually learn how to PLAY music AND sing (without 9 hours of digital processing afterwards) and find out what kind of artist she really is...if she's one at all. Otherwise she needs to learn how people like their fries. lol. And that's all I have to say about that.
  2. Give Nancy Pelosi her do for architecting this bill. She did a fine job of delivering on her promise to her electorate, which was to push for a speedy withdrawal of all troops from Iraq. She did so with the full backing of her party and she even got a couple of Republicans to defect and go to the Dark Side. Unfortunately, it all means squat when the day is done. The Senate is gleefully forwarding the bill, as is, to our beloved retarded monkey President so he can promptly VETO it and send it back to the house to be reworked. In the end, no one wants to be left holding the bag when service men and women are half a world away, in desperate need of food, water, ammunition, fuel and all the other things a growing armed force needs - so some kind of compromise will be reached post haste so that a sign-able bill can reach the President's desk and provide the funds our folks so desperately need over there. So, the Democrats get an A for effort, but an F for execution. They needed to do MORE with this bill so that it would go through both chambers of Congress and be veto-proof, and it should have been done the FIRST TIME. Now, the clock is ticking and they'll likely have to skip that language altogether and just get the money out there before something bad happens.Mind you, Bush is abundantly aware that this is his last veto-able bill to be sent his way with regards to the war in the Middle East. 70 people died today in an extraordinarily violent day in Iraq and he's got NOTHING to show for his "troop surge" and his policy of "beat them till they submit". He'll get his money to get him by the next few months but by August, if he doesn't have something of substance to give to the people and Congress, his own party WILL defect and add new voices to the cry for withdrawal.See, he just doesn't get it and probably never will. This isn't just LIKE Vietnam...it IS Vietnam all over again. The policy has failed, we're directly responsible for the most unstable region on the planet right now and smack dab in the middle of that firestorm is our Petroleum Reserve for the next century. His next, best hope is to just leave...let them duke it out, then validate the winner and give them just enough to start rebuilding by themselves. Anything more will result in an all out war between the Middle East and the remainder of NATO. Sad, but true.So enjoy your sack of money, George...but know this, the next bag will have a VERY large tag on it, reading "Troop withdrawals to begin immediately" and you won't be able to afford the ink needed to try and veto it.
  3. Am I alone in being baffled by this lawsuit? First of all, Intellectual Property and the Daily Show et al??? Uhm...evidently the folks at Viacom haven't even been watching their own programming, because if they HAD, then they'd realize that the Daily Show and all of its related spin-offs are neither Intellectual nor Property. LOL. I kid, but people...c'mon! They're the most vapid (albeit extremely entertaining) faux news shows on the air! Saturday Night Live actually started that whole genre of comedy...and, frankly, they were better at it. But I digress. If you want a product (and that's all we're talking about here is product) to be successful, especially wildly successful, then you have to MARKET IT! You have to shove it down the throats of 250+ million Americans morning, day and night and create an atmosphere where they think they'll die if they don't watch the next airing. Now...you can spend hundreds of millions of dollars advertising on regular network TV and other cable TV stations to try and lure people in...but, let's face it, the American public is now savvy to 99.99% of advertising gimmicks and keeping their attention for longer than 10 seconds is brutally difficult....until, that is, YOU TUBE came along!!Now you have this MONSTER merchandising mechanism that costs you NOTHING and lures 10s of millions of people to the "product" each and every day...and ALL FOR FREE! Not a penny has to be doled out. So WHAT, I ask you, WHAT is the problem here!!???Now, I admit that YouTube sooner or later is going to get smashed fat, dirty and hard by the MPAA because of GROSS violations with respect to the movie/dvd industry. They really need to get that under control and fast. But VIACOM??? Where the hell does Viacom even BEGIN to have a case?? They're contesting You Tube's offerings of broadcast TELEVISION SHOWS for Christ's sake...shows that are RECORDED on Tivo, Comcast digital services, VCRs (yes, people still have VCRs) etc. We have been recording TV shows for later viewing since the beginning of TIME and no one ever said BOO about it. WHY?? Because fewer than 1% of broadcast television ever goes to syndication, which is where easily downloaded content from the internet might be a problem. But we're not talking about that here. We're talking about shows that are extremely time sensitive and NO ONE is going to be interested in a month from now, never mind longer periods of time. I mean, seriously, is anyone interested in seeing the old shows featuring jokes about the President with Clinton was in office? It's not relevant, uninteresting and NOT funny. This is just totally BS. It seems that Viacom is only interested in opening the door for other lawsuits against YouTube and its clones with regards to more lucrative ventures like movies and other recordings that are highly profitable. They're doing this on principle to set and example and try to put a dent in the internet download fiasco. Sadly, the author of the DMCA recently admitted that all enforcement attempts have failed and the entertainment industry has failed to keep up with the technological challenges now faced by perveyors of real intellectual property...and that's REALLY where they need to be focusing their attention now!!Even if Viacom wins here, they still fail....the content they're trying to protect can't be protected due to all of the aforementioned avenues for recording it and playing it back...and there are WAY too many clones of You Tube out there right now to make it fiscally responsible to continue suing people to achieve their goals. All they'll accomplish in the end is alienating the very folks they want watching their shows! They should be kissing Google's BUTT and THANKING them for creating one of the most inexpensive marketing tools in the history of recorded media, and finding a way to leverage the technology to remain profitable and allow their show folks to make a living.pfooey
  4. Just wanted to give this a little bump. I was unbelievably upset the first day this news was released...and I found it to be a bit incredulous. Then, after reading about the seismic activity and increased radiation signatures, it became clear that North Korea had tested SOMETHING. What, we still don't know. In all likelihood, what they did test was a MAMMOTH, GIANT device (about 10 times the original Big Boy released in Japan during WWII) that was the nuclear equivalent of cavemen making their first fire. LOL. Seriously....they may have been able to get two big chunks of radioactive matter to slam into each other and create a big bang, but there's NO way that they've mastered the miniaturization technology to create a modern, compact weapon that's deliverable on a warhead. So...something to worry about...they know how it works...but something to worry about later, a LOT later because they don't know how to use it effectively yet.Fortunately, after the dust settled (literally) China finally woke up and said "HEY! OVER HERE!!! We JUST got Most Favored Nation status a decade ago and YOU'RE about to ruin that and destroy our economy overnight if you DON'T CUT IT OUT!!! Oh, and btw...the United States might be busy over in Iraq...but we're MORE than able and willing to kick your sorry little country off the face of the PLANET!" And so....the little, tiny fat man who would be Emperor (or God in his mind) of North Korea finally relented, hung his sorry *bottom* head and said to the world "I'm sorry....no more nukes"Do I buy that? Hell no! Are they off the nuclear plate now? Don't bet your life on it. But they'll be keeping quiet about it for now...and probably just added 20 years to the timetable for a weaponized version of their first test...but watch out people. Before we're all cold and lonely in our private little dirt naps...North Korea AND Iran will both be lobbing nuclear bombs at someone...most likely US.
  5. I was particularly amused by the first broadcast of this news on Regis' show. Kelly was bemoaning having to care for him after his surgery with spongebaths and the like. Never one to miss a comedic opportunity, Regis shot right back "How about a quick dip before I go under the knife?" HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA...what a pill!I feel really bad for the guy. He so desperately wanted the angioplasty to be performed. He even went "doctor shopping" to see if he could find someone, ANYONE, to tell him that a full bypass wasn't necessary (which would have been a really dangerous thing to do btw)...but his search was for nought. He wound up in front of a team of specialists all telling him the same thing...balloons don't scrape out plaque...and he had gunk in vast abundance. Mind you...this shouldn't have been a surprise to him given his posh lifestyle over these many years.Anyone remember Regis filling in for David Letterman when HE had to have a bypass done???? I'm surprised he didn't take that event more to heart. AND, I'll be VERY curious to see if Letterman jumps at the chance to repay the favor and fill in for Regis for awhile! David Letterman...back on DAYTIME TV!!! WOO!! Who knows...maybe Kathy Lee might even come back for awhile. eee heee hee heeeAnyway...we're sending our love down a well...or wishing Regis get well....or something like that. Safe, speedy and happy returns, Regis!
  6. I've heard from only 3 people in my life that have had negative experience like this with Paypal...this poor soul included. I'm not going to saint them or anything or imply they're the best thing since sliced bread, but I have to tell you, I use their service VERY regularly and I have NEVER, ever ever ever had a single problem with them. I'm aware of the fees they charge, I suppose that's because I'm a bit anal about reading the fine print....so I went in with my eyes opened. I DO agree that they could be a bit more forward with that information...like it should be on the side of every page (I'm not kidding) so folks don't have to poke around to figure out where their money is going....and I therefore have some level of sympathy for the well intentioned who sign up, get an account, start using it and then get literally blindsided with fees they had no idea existed. (I could also do with a LOT less of them trying to push a high interest credit card on me..but they are indeed a business). It's a legitimate complaint and I think you have a case to press it with them. Give 'em Hell! :PThat said, when you do...they will likely respond favorably. I recently got ripped off by a rogue 3rd world e-bayer that Paypal should have been on to a LONG time ago....and cut them off at their financial knees...and I opened a complaint with them. 25 minutes later, no questions, no forms, no nothing...the money was not just back in my acct...they transferred it to my bank (no fee) and sent an apology and went after the sum*BLEEP* with guns blazing. Their e-bay store was closed that day and that was that (not before the d*ckhead tried to put up negative feedback). So again...I have to lean in favor of these folks as far as business practices...they walk the talk.So...send them a note...explaining you were unaware of the fee involved when you chose your upgrade plan..and see if they don't cut you a deal and give you half the money back or something. I'd be interested to see how you make out.
  7. So I was checking out some of the OTHER free hosting options that are lying around out there, and I answered an ad for totally FREE hosting with some group out there calling themselves "host-zero.com". Now, they only allowed subdomains to be used (rather than using your own domain) so I should have known SOMETHING was up before I got fed this little rat poison deally...but I was tempted by the Devil and went for it. So I signed up, starting putting up my little web site...got it looking REAL spiffy...and went one night to a good friend's house to show it off.We sit down, plug in a URL...and....Page Not Found. "Er..." Poked around for a bit, tried to go to their main web site and log into the client area to see what was up...Page Not Found...well, not your standard not found page actually. No, this was a picture of that Iraqi guy during the "shock and awe" phase of Bush's little war on terror saying "There is no page here, there never was a page..." etc etc and was then redirected to some random Top Site page.In another words...they had disappeared entirely, overnight, without a word and I've been unable to find them since. Nice, eh?So...kiss my surprisingly firm behind host-zero.com and I hope you rot in hell. I mean, it would have been one thing if they posted a note saying they were going away and gave everyone a chance to get their FILES OFF OF THE SERVER first...but NO!!! Just...disappeared into the night with everything. God, I hope I didn't have anything terribly personal there...that could be a nightmare. IDENTITY THEFT!!Anyone have a similar experience with these "fly by night" one nighter free host dealies?? Thank GOD for this place.
  8. Hey, man...wow, you've got yourself into one HELLUVA pickle then, haven't you? OK, first things first. 1. I have NEVER heard of a phpbb database WITH Admin access that DIDN'T have an ability to backup the forum. It's just not possible. SO! Log into your FORUM, not into the database...go into the actual forum AS THE ADMIN, then towards the bottom click on "Go To Administration Panel". Right under General Admin is the function "Backup Database"...USE THAT. It will prompt you to SAVE the database back to your local machine...DO THAT. It's really hard to re-integrate it later...and should only be used as a last resort...but it's absolutely critical if you're going to do this thing right. 2. You say you can see your database through MS Access...which means you must be able to see it locally as well. I want you to log into your host, locate your database and export it to a LOCAL copy that you can see on your machine in MS Access. That's also important. When you do the export...export EVERYTHING...column headers, indexes, tables...EVERYTHING. 3. Now go to your new host and log in there via your control panel. Install PhpBB normally using a blank SQL table. That's actually the easy part. 4. THEN go to the new table that was just created using MYSql or whatever product they have and IMPORT your MS Access table into the MySQL table. 5. That should do the trick...HOWEVER...sometimes the table structure creates and the data goes to hell...in that case...after you have the table created via the previous steps here, go log in to the FORUM with your Admin credentials, then Go To Administration Panel and choose "Restore Database". You'll then be able to pull in your local copy of the forum backup and you should be off and running. NOTE! This ONLY works with a file size of 2MB or under! which is kinda stupid...if your file is over 2MB large...then you'll need to dump it somewhere on your host and ask their support people to do the restore for you. Believe me, they'll be happy to...they do it ALL the time for LOTS of folks...that's been my experience anyway. This is NOT as easy as I'm describing it however! There are pieces of the puzzle you'll need to watch over during this whole process and that requires some familiarity with DBA functions/maintenance. Post table creation, you should look at the structure and see if everything is the same as you've seen it in your MS Access database....if it's not, you MAY need to manually create some structure items...but MySQL makes that rather easy these days. Then you'll have to try pulling in your local table again. If you have to resort to pulling in the forum backup file...there is an ini file that requires adjustments so the data will go into the new table...that data being the administrative login information, table name and some other things. You'll need to look at the PhpBB support site for that. Here's a good article for you: https://www.phpbb.com/kb/article.php?article_id=212 and this one too https://www.phpbb.com/kb/article.php?article_id=59. If you really find yourself in a pickle you just can't get out of...give your local copy of both the phpbb backup AND the MS Access backup to your host support folks and, again, ask them to do the restore for you. They should be overjoyed to be doing something other than reset passwords. I hope this is helpful...please feel free to ask ask ask more questions...I have a wealth of information on this topic and am happy to help.
  9. I have been the victim of a broken condom only once...occured during a rather 'dry' session of the old in and out and the results were disasterous. Let's just say....well...it can be life altering. The chances of pregnancy are quite significant depending on the timing of your unfortunate event....and the chances of contracting something are greatly increased. FORTUNATELY, HIV is doesn't fare well in the presence of spermicide and, provided you don't have any open wounds on yer willy, you should be relatively OK....but there are no guarantees in this life or any other. The lesson here is...use a spermicidal gel in conjunction with your raincoat and you'll be guaranteed a good time with no worries!
  10. Oh my sweet loving God Almighty of this blessed Universe would I EVER love to work at Google!!!! I was scanning the channels the other night and came upon a nightly news report featuring the joy and love that IS working for Google. It was AMAZING. I was basically drooling at the end...and crying at the same time...because of the very sad reality behind the priviledge that it is to work over there.See, they have like 4000 jobs available and like a MILLION resumes coming in every day to try and fill those 4000 positions. So what are they odds that someone like you or me are going to actually get the chance to INTERVIEW (even), well...let's just say you'd have a better chance of growing wings and being able to commute via flight on a daily basis rather than have to fight traffic like the rest of us.So what's the deal??? Well, see, they don't just want drones sitting in cubicles doing specialized tasks like the rest of corporate America. nonono. What they want is someone with brains, business savvy and highly developed social skills. I think we all know that the marriage of technically advanced brains with non-socially retarded personalities is a tenuous one at best. I'm not saying ALL Geeks are incapable of holding a room full of people and mesmerize them into buying billions of dollars worth of stock....but...and let's be honest here, MOST ARE. I'm sorry, but it's true.So anyway, let's say you are one of the .000001% of the people who fit the really specific criteria Google is looking for? What perks do you get? Well, I SAW them live on TV and let's just say you'll never be brown bagging it again to work. They have chefs on site that will prepare anything your little heart desires pretty much any time of the day. And when you're done eating, you can go hang out in the SPA to relax and get back into the swing of things. They have a gym, free massages, pedicures, manicures...pretty much you name the luxury and they have it.Additionally, you don't have to dress up for work any more...you just wear whatever you're comfortable in. You can even bring your pets to work! And you get to hang around on the floor with co-workers, chatting and brainstorming and working in a fun, comfortable environment...it's just ridiculous. The rest of working america has GOT to wake up and start demanding work places like this...it's just heaven. And when you're finally ready to put together whatever new technology you're going to unleash for Google, you'll have access to equipment the federal government is envious of. Unbelievable!Sadly, this won't last forever. Eventually, even Google will have competition and their stock price will begin to normalize. Then you'll see the perks whittle away one by one until they're the same white bread boring environment that encompasses the rest of America...but until then....PLEASE update your resumes, leave your cell phone and IM on and take a chance! You'll never have one like this again..not in our lifetimes and I can guarantee that. And if you ARE successful, well, you'll probably be able to retire before age 40 and that ain't bad!
  11. There all really interesting...though I'm partial to the one with the shirtless lady...for obvious reasons. hee hee heeWhat software are you guys using to develop those? I only have Adobe Photoshop CS at hand and I've found it to be disasterously difficult to use and manage. Any recommendations for me???
  12. Sounds a wee bit similar to the N machine. I'm not sure if you folks are hip enough to remember this, but there was a big scandal ages ago about a guy who claimed he found the source to 'free energy' called the N Machine. Basically it violated Newton's laws by creating more energy than it used via motion through and energy field utilizing something called "N Space". It somehow moved between different potentials without requiring energy for the motion and the end result was energy creation by an moving object requiring no energy to keep it moving. There was ONE reported working model (cold fusion, anyone?) and then the inventor was allegedly silenced by the government and disappeared until he was rediscovered by some AM radio host. This generated lots of buzz for said radio host and a book was published and whatnot, but nothing ever came of it.See...even if it WAS real, you'd need to create a machine essentially the size of the MOON to create the kind of energy to meet even the most modest demands in the most remote areas of the Earth. Yes, sadly, these ideas are great...but the execution inevitably runs into silly little physical laws that prevent you from achieving your goals. Free energy utilizing objects in motion is impossible...so let's not try. Now...creating a TINY little Sun here on earth and utilizing THAT for free energy...that I think we can do. Let's work towards that.
  13. You guys have some pretty messed up reasoning. Uhm...they shot down their own satellite and that makes it OK? Didn't Iran and North Korea do all of their Nuclear development and testing in their own country? Does that make it OK? If your neighbor shot his own chimney off with a rocket propelled grenade, would that be OK? Do you see where I'm going with this? It's NOT OK!!! WHY THE HELL ARE THEY DEVELOPING TECHNOLOGY TO SHOOT DOWN SATELLITES??? Do you think they're JUST going to use it to shoot down their OWN satellites? NO!!! They're going to use it to knock out the comm system for the goddamned PLANET and hold EVERYONE hostage with their new weapon system!!!It's folks like you that make this world a REALLY dangerous place. If ANY country (including our own) tests out weapons of mass destruction without the knowledge and cooperation of the UN and it's allies, then they set the stage for aggression. See...that makes people antsy and antsy people tend to make similar or more powerful weapons to make sure they can counter a new perceived threat. It's called weapons escalation....we did it throughout the Cold War....it was stupid then and it's stupid now.China has spent the last decade trying to prove itself a new, innovative, forward thinking economy with its warlike was well behind it...and then they go and do THIS!??? We're back in WWII again people..oh, hell...WWI!!!!! THIS IS SCARY!!! WAKE UPP!!!
  14. This too shall pass. Listen, all of the jury-rigging in the world isn't going to save George Bush and his cronies any more. The Republican "Contract with America" has been torn up, spat on, stepped on, pooped on and lastly vomited on by nearly 70% of registered American voters. It's OVER! George Bush is the most hated man on the PLANET and anyone associated with him bears his stigma....so EVERYONE is desperately trying to distance themselves from him. What happened in Ohio? Most likely it was a raw, crooked deal conjured up by desperate Republicans in the President's pocket. It's unlikely it was on a cosmic conspiracy scale, but you hassle enough common folk who just want to take 10 minutes and vote, and you're going to turn the tide...especially in a race as evenly divided as this last one. Will it happen again?? NO WAY! This already has enough negative press and eventually it WILL reach the White House and the President will AGAIN apologize, take responsibility for his party's actions and ask for legislation that will prevent it from happening again.....but he'll do it AFTER the law is already in effect. Anyone catch the Presidential State of the Union Address last night??? Our monkey-President stood in front of the entire world and said "we need legislation that prevents these 'earmarks' from sneaking into bills and getting treated with the force of law when no one actually voted on them". Uhm...er....Mister President...the NEW Congress already took care of that IN THEIR FIRST WEEK!!!! True story. Ridiculous. Yeah...the days of Jack Abramoff, Tom DeLay, Bob Ney etc are OVER and this kind of nonsense is going to be a thing of the past. No more bogus redistricting, no more voter intimidation, no more bogus signatures to gets things put on a ballot....the people want the TRUTH and yes...we can handle the truth! (Thank you Jack and Tom for that scene....I still LOVE that movie so much!)
