OpenGL (Open Graphics Library) is a graphics API used to produce 3D graphics. The same sort of thing as Direct3D (Which is the Microsoft version) I don't get you. To my knowledge you can't run a program in OpenGL unless it was written using OpenGL.

There are some viruses that do, but not that many, most just damage software.

I read some of them, I didn't really thing they were that good, but having said they they weren't quite my type of book.I also didn't think some of them had that unhappy endings.EDIT:Spelling

It looks like quite a good search engine. However, I doubt it will beat Google in the near future, because Google is Huge, and what it can't beat it has the money to simply buy. Hopefully it will grow to be big though, as more search engines are always good.I, like hts did find the "Results 131 - 140 of about ###" with the costly changing ### a bit funny, but I assume there is some logic behind it somewhere.

I have read the books, although it was quite a while ago when I did. If my memory is correct, I found them for the most part very good, better than most books based on games. Not the thing I enjoy reading the most, but I recommend you read them if you haven't.

How was he a threat to America? Was it because of the "Weapons of Mass Destruction" that he had, that we haven't found yet. He didn't even have a missile powerful enough to reach America. There is no evidence that he was in any way connected with Al-Qaeda. Even the CIA said so. So there was absolutely no need to invade Iraq, apart from removing Saddam Husein, and if they are so interested in removing dictators, why don't they remove other dictators? (and stop funding some of them). Agreed, he needed to be removed from power, the War on Terror however, is going to be impossible to win with the current tactics. Look what is happening in Iraq, America is breeding terrorists faster than it can kill them. Unfortunately, when we went into Iraq, we created a huge power vacuum, and started a civil war because of this. It doesn't look very good if you just turn around and leave after totally destroying a country.

I just use AVG to scann for viruses once a month, as I am not really that bothered viruses. If I downloaded more stuff that I wasn't sure about, or went to dodgey sites, I probebly would run it more. I also run Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-aware SE every months.I don't like Norton as it is very very bloated.

The way it is put doesnt sound very good, as the thread title says "We Own Outer Space". I am sure they wouldn't attack if just someone like China put a satellite into space. However, I don't understand why they did this, because if another country has enough technology to put nukes into space, they must have nukes on the ground, and if america decided it wanted to blow something of theirs up it could lead to another cold war, or even World War III.From what I understand, America is mainly worried about its satellites, which if one went out of order, it would have a huge affect on the American populous, as was proved when a satellite got hit by a rock, and 90% of Americas pagers when offline. However if a country did want to destroy a American satellite, surely it would be more cost effective, and a lot more likely to succeed if they used Ground to Space Missiles instead, which go way to fast and are way to small for America to hit with anything they have got at present.

I last got a BSOD 6 months ago, something to do with my drivers and coming out of standby caused it I think, as I haven't had so many once I updated them.

The main role I have for a download manager, (mainly the ones like get right and such Firefox's default one sucks) is to stop corrupt downloads. When I had dial up, I found that sometimes when I downloaded 5Mb or more it would sometimes end up with a corrupt file. Download managers seemed to fix this problem.Another use I have found is that they allow you to resume downloads, which was also great on dial up, as I could download it in segments. The only problem was that some servers didn't let you do this (File-Planet), which was a pain, especially when you found this out when you had stopped downloading on 30Mb

First Successful Test Of Invisibility WE DID IT
Yacoby replied to Saint_Michael's topic in Science and Technology
Yeh, I heard about this, it sounded very interesting. You idea to restrict its use to the military isn't going to work, as there has already been a paper published as to how it would be possible. So any government (or someone with the money) could fund the making of this technology based on the same base as the one being made now.If the general public were able to produce one easily, it would lead to some bad consequences, like criminals etc, but this has been true for almost every invention, there has been some downside. However, hopefully by the time it is easy to produce these, the technology will be easily available to detect them. -
Even though Halo 2 was good, for some reason I liked the original Halo better. Probably because I mainly played the campaign of Halo 2, and in my humble opinion it sucked.I also own Morrowind for the PC, and I was going to vote Morrowind, but then I remembered that it didn't have mods for the Xbox, so I don't think it is quite as good.EDIT : Spelling

Islam, Not Terrorism Proving you wrong
Yacoby replied to sweet_princess's topic in General Discussion
This also annoys me, I have seen it mentioned as if it was fact in many places, including this forum that Islam is a violent religion. It may be because the only time people see Islam mentioned on the news it is something to do with terrorism, then they have got the idea that Islam is a religion that promotes violence. It may also be something to do with misquotes from the Quran, or miss understandings. There was a thread a while back where someone had quoted part of a paragraph from the Quran (unintentionally I think), so you couldn't get its full meaning. And you wouldn't be mad if someone came into your country and created a civil war, which is basically what the west has done. Creating a huge power vacuum and disbanding the army wasn't the best of ideas. Muslims in the middle east seems to be much more devout, more like christians in the middle ages so they share a stronger bond between countries. -
Most of the time when I am on the Internet is trying to find answers to my problems and quires, usually related to something to do with computers or programing. I spend a bit of time on this form, the other forum I go on is the "The Elder Scrolls Forum", which is the official forum for the Elder Scrolls games (Morrowind, Oblivion etc) I am usually around the Morrowind section or the Community discussion section, as my computer isn't powerful enough to run Oblivion.I also spend time browsing through Deviant ART. Although I am a member I haven't uploaded any art, I only signed up to get at the favorites and the watch features.

What I mean is that although it was a very stupid thing to do but the fact that he didn't look into masking his IP address etc indicates to me that he didn't do it seriously. Of course he may have. In my view america (and to some extent some other countries) are too panicky about terrorism. It isn't as a serious threat as say the IRA 1970s when it was all organised with one organization, where as at least in the west at present there seems to be no overall leader for the attacks. For example the london underground bombings didn't have any connections with any terrorist group.

I would get a better graphics card, but that is me

The other forum I am on has over 150,000 members, and at one point there were 2000+ online at once. It was very useful to the moderators to have people who would report the thread if something was going wrong, or someone was breaking the rules. Isn't it better that I tell them that they could get banned for saying that, and then they correct it, rather than a moderator turn up and ban them, and delete the post? That is the same sort of thing that Albus Dumbledore does, which ends up as a better forum overall.

The Fbi Pushing For Internet Service Providers To Track Members
Yacoby replied to owbussey's topic in General Discussion
I see no need for this at all.As mentioned, there will be a huge amount of data, most likely stretching into the Terabyte range given a few weeks. For example, this week I have visited well over 100 websites. This doesn't stand a chance of helping the nations security, as I doubt terrorists have any specific websites they go to, and you cannot brand anyone who goes to a certain website a terrorist. It might have a valid reason to help track down sex offenders, but as soon as they realize that they can be caught this way, they will find a way to avoid it.I certainly don't want my browsing habits stored, who is to say the company won't sell it on to other people if they are in need of some cash?I definitely agree with your attorney general that you need some regulation, as your government seems to be introducing a huge amount of laws that violate privacy and calling it "anti terrorist measures".In essence this is just another government trying to get more control over its citizens. -
Wow, this looks fairly cool. Now if only the other forum I inhabit supported images I would be all set.

Wow, that puts my 18Gb hard drive to shame. I could do with a few more Gbs, but I don't think I could use all of a 750Gb installation. It would be good for trying out a few of the Linux distros I have been meaning to try, but haven't had the space.Knowing me, I won't see a hard drive that big for 5 years. I always seem to get the low end hardware

Microsoft Launches Internet Explorer 7! Download link available here
Yacoby replied to Amezis's topic in The Internet
Microsoft always seems very slow with the Internet, always jumping on the bandwagon last. For years they claimed that the Internet would only be used by scientists, by which time Netscape had a strangle hold on the market. So they had to release IE with the OS so that people would use IE rather than downloading something else. I have heard claims from Microsoft that no-one wants tabbed browsing, but now they release a Internet browser with tabbed browsing What I think is a laugh about this is that someone already has the IE7.com domain name: http://www.ie7.com/ This is a shock. Now if they would focus on fixing the issues with their other products I would be happy -
I don't worry that much about terrorism, it is in my opinion more worth worrying about getting hit by a car, as that is statistically more likely to happen America seems very panicky at present, sure if I was in charge I would have taken it seriously, but I wouldn't have spread panic by announcing it. If you announce every "threat", you are going to have a nation cowering in fear. For example, in britain there was a threat (4 - 5 years ago now) that someone was planning an attack in London on armistice day. It is the one day of the year where the Queen, high ranking military officials and the prime-minister are gathered in the same place. The security services were notified and they took extra measures. In the end nothing happen, and no-one panicked. If something had have happened, telling everyone wouldn't have made a difference. I though you were allowed freedom of speech in America, maybe he just did it as a laugh. Or maybe he is just a clever terrorist who has worked out you can cause mass panic without leaving your computer

My main problem with backing up to somewhere on the web is that it doesn't strike me as being very secure. I don't particularly mind the time it would take to transfer, as I could just leave my computer running.I usually back up onto another hard drive, or CDs.

Slowest Machine To Ever Run Winxp what are you machines specs?
Yacoby replied to axlefoley2001's topic in Software
The comes a point when there is no point using the OS because it was so slow. I ran XP on a 1Ghz Duron, with 64Mb RAM, and that was bad enough. If I had had a bit more computing knowledge at that point I would have loaded a different OS onto the computer, something that wasn't quite as large resource hog as XP. Maybe a Linux Distro. The slowest computer (as we think of computers today) was either a 386 running Windows 3.1, or more recently (two months ago) a 30Mhz Laptop (Ugh) -
