  1. If you run your own server it's possibe, you have to add a cname record. Here it's not possible because members could jeopardize the servers by adding a wrong record. We already had members try to use the NS! and NS@ as their domain names, if we give access to CNAME and A-records we wouldn't have servers left by monday. -_-As it is now most members have not even updated the MX record so I don't think access to or the ability to edit add or change A, A6, AAAA, CNAME, NS, PTR, TXT, or WRK records would be safe. If you don't know what you are doing here, you shouldn't be doing it because this is an area where you could mess up others hosting space and the trap servers. We will not add or change a record for you because it's very time consuming and we have to test and track. The short answer, no you can't point a subdomain somewhere else from Xisto hosting.Nils
  2. I don't see any warnings, and we cleaned up invisible and qued posts yesterday, I don't know if you had any. I restored you to positive and I have to reiterate thatw if a post is not approved, to warn the member, that way we know what happened..You are all set.Post closed.
  3. I'm not sure what you are talking about? I see you logged into cPanel so that is not the issue? Let me think, maybe you are looking for Fantastico, because that?s where a lot of the nifty add-ons are.... First log onto cPanel, then go here Fantastico Or are you looking for phpBB or PHP-Nuke... that would be here: Add-on Scripts.... Please state what you are trying to do, then maybe we can help you. If you don't have the script, and you don't tell us what script you don?t have how do you expect us to know what script you don?t have. So until my psychic sidekick logs on I can?t help Nils
  4. I don't know anything about frontpage but one of the moderators is thesting it out now.Nils
  5. OK, your site is up and running, I looked at the link you placed in your post, you can't use: "http://http//deviantyouth.astahost.com/cpanel" to get to your cpanel its more like http://deviantyouth.astahost.com/cpanel or you can use http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ or http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ so your site is working and has worked since you set it up. If you had posted this in a separate post and not tucked it at the bottom of a resolved issue I could have let you know how to get to your site. If you have a problem or need an answer, create a new post because we normally don't go back reading a post on a solved issue.. Nils
  6. The problem is your DNS setting for oboists.co.uk is not pointing to the right server. You have to setup your DNS to point to astahosts name servers. This is your DNS record: And here is my correct DNS information:
  7. Since I can't find a topic you created on this issue I'm creating it for you. Using the shoutbox for help is kind of useless because we don't remember to go back and make sure it worked. So anytime a problem is only shouted it's impossible for us to know if it fixed. Create posts when you have problems, that way multiple admins / moderators cann look into the problem. I know we started this in shout the other day, but I have no way of knowing the outcome of this. I checked topics started by Killer008r but didn't find any that is reflecting this. What I did today after seing your shout is to reinstall your FrontPage extensions. So to rule out any other issues, can you access your account using ftp? or access cPanel? Using Frontpage 5.x!Starting install, port: 80.Created: 22 Apr 2005 21:24:25 -0000Version: 5.0.2.2634Server extensions already installed on port 80.Reverting to upgrade.Starting upgrade, port: 80.Created: 22 Apr 2005 21:24:25 -0000Version: 5.0.2.2634Chowning Content in service /.Port 80: Upgrade completed.Upgraded Version: 5.0.2.2634.Starting chown, port: 80, web: "/".DocumentRoot: "/home/killer/public_html"Setting PasswordFrontpage passthough auth enabled! So frontpage is enabled and checked on your site. 8. The problem was you tried to install it with not enough diskspace to finish the install, so there were files missing...Nils
  9. OK, you have to setup your ftp correct... I'm using smartFTP pro so those are the instructions I'm giving, you have to change it to fit you. It's 3 settings you need to have: 1 is the ftp address: ftp.mbd5882.trap17.com/2 Next is your username for the subdomain: azeem@mbd5882.trap17.comAnd third is your password. (You have to change it back to your own password again, I changed it to test that it's working correctly. so change the password in your ftp manager.. Nils
  10. The 3 ways you should access your cPanel is: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ or http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ or http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ If your computer don't let you login using the popup, cances it and login from the web page. I just tested it and it works. and don't forget to use your cPanel username "irot" and not chicken. Nils
  11. Night fox, nice to meet you and if you stick around and get hosting maybe you can give us some tutorials :PWe have a couple of nice communities here and if you are looking for free hosting you came to the right place :PAgain, welcome to Xisto.Nils
  12. WOW, what a great set of poems, you have the gift. Keep them comming and we can point to the treads here when you are published and famous I had to give you a positive reputation for this tread. Nils
  13. I'm comming from the other side of the fence, I'm the network Admin and I have learned one thing. There is no such thing as a un-hackable system and the security is only as good as the users / Admins wants it to be. The biggest hacking treats are not from the outside, they happen but not as often as a hacking from the inside by a disgruntled employee or in your case a disgruntled student. So for the outside there are firewalls and security appliances and for the inside more and more businesses and schools are starting to use security measurments to see what or where a user goes when they are online. Most schools don't have a security logging appliance yet but some do and they will be able to track what you are doing and store it, including you adding a usb stick or drive. (The good old carnivore by another name)I use a setup in registry that initiates the logging sequence as soon as you log onto the computer, if you put in a bot disk or a unauthorised OS, the computer is not connected to the network, if you edit the security file, the hash is broken and you don't log onto the network. If you log onto the system with a username that is already logged on, a popup show up on my computer with the location of the 2 computers with the same username. If I don't close the popup in 60 seconds it pages my mobile phone and lets me know we have a security breach. Is this normal, no it's not but more and more small companies learn to protect the data because we see people apply for jobs and what they use to leverage the jobs are trade secrets or even account info from their previous employers. So because of all the smart young people out there with the need to prove they can beat the system, the system is hardened more and more. And I the stupid Admin can work my behind off trying to put out the fires and I guess I will be more inclined to press charges for something that in the old days would be laughed at.With parents suing for what kids see on the internet from school computers. I can understand the security measures most of them put in place.
  14. I just made it 2000 posts for moderators who removed their custom titles......
  15. You have a total of 20mb diskspace, you have setup to much or not deleted what you tried out. You only have " Disk space available 4.39 MB" left and that is not enough to install anything from fantastico. This is on the left side of your cPanel thats where you see what you have left and what you have used.
  16. Nice to see you here on Xisto, have fun and enjoy the community.I have a question?, why the angry smiley face next to your posts... are you angry?Nils
  17. I just cleaned up your account, you should be able to install coppermine now.Nils
  18. Number of posts a member must have over before allowing them to change their member title? 500 So keep on posting and you will be able to change your custom title It's a reward for active members Nils
  19. We have users that are using chinese language on their sites, there is an option in cPanel to change it to simplified Chinese so I don't think you should have any problems hosting that.Nils
  20. ASR, cPanel I working now. What you or anyone should do is look to see if there is another post with cPanel issues open, thew will look at that post if you add to it.saxsux, you should name your posts something more meaningful than "Uh-oh...", I see that and I assume another junk/spam post and keep on going.. put what your issue are, what's going on etc. That way I or moderators can see if this is something we need to read or can skip...Nils
  21. Welcome Michael,I think you'll have fun here. At least fun pursuing web "stuff" and web developing. I have 3 kids in college right now so I know you rather hit the party scene than do school work.Good luck with your education and stay active then you will be hosted in no time.Nils
  22. no9t9, correct... thank you.. perfect answer Thank you, I agree. The reason we don't send the notification is: We had a round of fake suspension emails sent out and we took off the warning email. If you have 10 to 50 hosting credits there is no need to go online everyday, but when you come online you look at your hosting credits and if you post anything, look at the credits before you leave. If you need a babysitter you should get one, don't rely on us to babysit you. We have over 200 hosted members here and most stay active... (If this was paid hosting you would get an invoice, maybe change to paid hosting would help) If you own a car and the tank is going to empty while you are driving are you going to blame the gas-station for not reminding you to fill up? You propably drove by a few and nobody came out to warn you... maybe thats the car manufactures fault???

    Guests!

Icemarle I can't answer for the other hosting :lol:We have 2 hosting companies here on Xisto and on Xisto. I know you have not waited 48 hours for us to answer you. What you should do is wait for the other to come through, look at the one we give you here (You have to apply first) and then compare the 2 hosting businesses. Maybe you get a better package there I don't know, what I know is we try to give the best hosting we can and we work with members to solve their problems.Nils
  24. Your account is up and running, you just have to add your content to it. I'm looking at your welcome page here. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ If you need help to setup your website you should ask and don't forget to change the default index.html to your own index.html or you will continue to ssee the welcome page. Nils
  25. I just checked your site, it's fine. mySQL goes down or have problems right after new users got the hosting accounts.Instead of taking it slow and learn what's there and how to use it they start playing with all the features and sometimes they manage to run faulty scripts and the server runs out of mySQL connections. As soon as we see this we notify server admin so the script can be terminated and if the script was a danger to the server they may terminate the users on server level.Nils
