  1. We do this because we are here for the long run. To explain that a little and not sound like "hogwash". The owner here tried different "free hosting" solutions and ended up feeling cheated after spending numerous hours on a web site and the layout. Then come back after a couple of days and find that the so-called free host had injected a banner ad into the site and messed up the layout. Other times it was with hosting that was great for 5 to 6 months and they either went under or changed to pay service because they had oversold (given out too much free space). So Xisto started out with server space paid by OpaQue, and Xisto Corporation. Now the servers we use for the forum(s) and the hosting are paid for by the paid hosting and the ads on the forums this subsidizes the free hosting space. The forum servers and the free hosting servers are separate, the paid hosting servers are different from the free servers. Users on the paid servers are more careful with scripts and dont mess around in the cPanel as much as users here on the free space. This results in better uptime and less problems with SQL databases. This is a write-up that is on Xisto.com (other free web hosting we have) Why be cheated somewhere else when you can be cheated right here (sarcasm) and it explains some of the reasons behind this. Here is a list of the free web hosts that has gone under http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and we are working hard not to end up on that list. We are not overselling, we are strict when it comes to participation on the forums because that is how we can make the money paying for this service (it's still subsidized by the paid hosting at Xisto corporation). To wrap this up, right now its not a moneymaker, its a hobby. If this grows and we keep new members we may add new forums that will attract other user groups that have different interests and add free servers to those forums. With enough forums and free server space this can turn into a business that will make money. To achieve this we need to keep the member base growing and give out more Free Hosting Space. OpaQue may have a better explanation but this is my understanding. Nils
  2. 30day trial of pestpatrol should be able to help you out with that one. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ you can try to download stinger and run that one also: av tools stinger Nils
  3. I'm not sure what you refering to, but 5GB bw is the max we have for free hosting. Anyone who needs more than that need to get paid hosting because with that amount of trafick you should be able to make money There are a couple of members that made enough money and had enough trafic to go to paid hosting. Look at the different packages here and you can see the cost for paid hosting. Xisto - Web Hosting.com paid hosting plans Nils
  4. Most forums don't allow guest posting or comments so we created this forum to give you the guests that come here a way of voicing your opinions. Ask us a question if there is something that is unclear, give us suggestions on what you would like to see in a free host. We see a lot of guests that stay here reading for hours, but then you don't sign up for the free hosting. Why did that happen? Did we not entice you enough, or is there something you would like to see here before you sign up as a member? Please, no spam or posting of links to other free hosts. Don't advertise your web site or put commercial links down. We will delete any posts that are not following those rules, we are looking for feedback and as long as the post don't break the rules we will not delete or alter them.Nils
  5. It seems to be working only by using Internet Exploder, I think some of the mods don't show correctly in mozilla and FF.If you try IE for reputation points everything is lined up (And this is 2 times IE worked.... )Nils
  6. OwrLam, Your site is not suspended. You have a 403 Forbidden message, that is something you messed up. You need to set permissions correct on your files. Your site what you see when suspended Suspended Page If you need to have your hosting reset post here: Misc. Requests Nils
  7. OpaQue is a very good programmer I think he set it up so that it makes it easies to see the last posts and I think it's an advantage to be able to see the last posts/relevant links Ops, Edit... O was answering something else... the relevant links is ads. (almost like google ads) but better :DNils
  8. That is advertizing on the left and the last posts on the right. The content in the ads should be relevant to what is on the page. We are a free webhost and we have paid hosting, you are right the ads will be on free hosting and paid hosting.Nils
  9. Phising, pharming and scamming are one of the dangers on the internet. The poisoned DNS servers is another issue that are getting out of hand.I get 1 to 5 ebay and PayPal scam letters everyday. I have reported 2 different scams on M$ and M$ updates / patchesNils
  10. Hi The Herb,Welcome to Xisto and I hope you will enjoy your stay here.We have to have the board to generate activity. That way we can pay for the server space thal all hosted users enjoy. So it's free to you (for posts) but it's not free to OpaQue the owner. Nils
  11. If you think you are going to be gone for a month or two you can post until you have 30 to 35 hosting credits, that way your acount will not be deleted until 60 to 65 days from now. And if you in that time have the opertunity to stop in and post a post or two you will extend that timerange. I don't know the exact formula but I know that with negative or credits below 30 you get more hosting credits for a post than for the same post after 30 hosting credits. If you think you are going to be active again I think this is the easiest way for you keep the account. I'm not recommending it but it's a solution if you have a lot other stuff going on that prevent you from active participation here.to to get from negative 29 to 4 hosting credits is easier than to get from 0 to 30 Another option is to buy some hosting credits so you can keep the account. We have this option for members that have gone in the hospital or for other reasons that prevent them from posting for a period of time. Nils
  12. The pharmers, phisers and scammers are getting smarter, the problem with a poisoned DNS server may change the way DNS servers are setup and talk to each other. If it get out of hand DNS servers will have to be registered and you have to manually use a handshake protocol to link up with the next DNS server upstream or downstream from from you and a group of servers may have to be setup as the authorative NS cops. How this will be done or work, I'm not smart enough to figure out... I would think it has to be a subset of the Authorative name servers so that new nameservers has to register with them and setup some form of login, then a rogue nameserver can't just inject new data into neighboring nameservers. New nameservers can only receive data from registered nameservers but not transmit changes until it's registerd and verified.just my $0.02Nils
  13. I'm going to keep my opinion on this issue to myself. What we in the US can do is prepare a living will and make sure we register it. That way there is no question on how to handle our case if we ever end up in a situation where someone else has to make a judgement call on our behalf. U.S. Living Will Registry You can search the net for for state specific document, get kits or talk to your lawyer to setup a living will. Links to state forms So make your own decision and fill it out and register your living will. Nils
  14. Looking at the knee jerk reactions here I think one of the reasons you don't like the reputation point is that you received a negative one. I see some revenge negative points happening and I will suspend the right to give rep when that happens. I use the rep to praise because when you do something I don't like or that are not kosher when it comes to posting I give you a warning. This is a community that is put together with members from all over the world and from all age groups. We have to learn to co exist and respect each other and each other?s opinion. So by ignoring the posts we don?t have anything positive to say we may help in keeping the spirit up. I see a lot of posts that I could comment on but they are nothing but a ?flame? invitation and I refrain from answering. If you feel the need to answer such posts you should stay on topic and not try to insult the person who posted it in the first place.I see some comments here that I take as veiled treats to another member of this community and this is a fact since I have kept an eye on it for the last couple of days. This post started as a question on reputation and reputation points. Some of the answers are nothing but an attempt to intimidate. If you don?t have anything to say that covers the question at hand, create your own topics and don?t hijack someone else?s topic.Nils
  15. I guess this is the longest single word domain name. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ This is Welsh and it means "St Mary's church in the hollow of the white hazel near a rapid whirlpool and the Church of St Tysilio of the red cave" Nils
  16. I think the issue we have here is described on M$ Support site: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/270008 It's error 39 and error 19 described with CD-r. Nils
  17. The whole story is here so be careful when you are browsing, "Pharming" is becomming more and more common. Info World Article on Pharming. Nils
  18. Very nice and very poetic. I'm not a poetry critic but it took me back to 9/11 and a lot of memories. The souls lost there in the cornfield and on the other fligts and the people inside the towers and pentagon are still remembered.thanks for sharing.Nils
  19. Members put google ads on their websites to try to make some money! Some members have a Xisto.com, Xisto - Web Hosting.com, Xisto.com or Xisto.com banner on their websites, this is done by the member not us. We provide ad free webspace and it's up to the members what they put there. So the sites you see with ads, theads are placed there by that member and we appreciate it. It's not giving them anymore web space or bandwidth so it's not something you or anyone has to do. Those who do are people who cares alot about the forums and that stay very active here. Some may even be moderators or admins. :PNils
  20. To bad it wasn't here.... we would have warned him. :)I hope you reported the post....Nils
  21. Reputation is a way a user can say thank you by raising the reputation with +1 and if he or she thinks you need to improve your posts and stay on topic they can give a negative reputation point. So it's a way to see who are helping out in the forum and if the individual spent some time on helping you with a problem and even if it wasn't solved to your satisfaction you can grant a postive rep point for the effort. On the other hand you have an issue and are asking for some help and you get a nonsense post "LOL, I don't think so" or "Read the book" then that person is not helping, just posting to post. so a negative rep "can" be given. It's all up to the individuals here who you and they give rep to.Nils
  22. Nice post, since you are using Frontpage. Can you explain what the "support" for frontpage does for users of frontpage (cPanel) and maybe make a couple of more tutorials.I'm going to suggest a "Frontpage" forum in the hosted area and I'll move any posts related to Frontpage to this forum.+1 reputation for this post . :PNils

  24. Hi and welcome to you all. Nate, I moved the post for you but left a link in the original forum.
