  1. you are right, only if the file is in the same folder as the file you are linking from<a href="file1.html">link</a>file1.html MUST be in the same directory, else I (personally) always use the full path <a href="http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/; because it always works
  2. For me it has always been a long search for good hosting, and just when i found one......they diedand i think it happens to all free hosts (including Xisto)..i've had 1 reliable host, it was always up, they did give me what i wanted, and it all worked, but they died (it was crazyghost.com) so i hope Xisto will host me. and i don't like the A_VERY_LONG_NAME.COM/MY_DOMAIN because it's just damn hard to type, so 2 advices:1) take a domain, for example: http://www.whateveryouwant.com/ (.net, .org, .info....)2) take a subdomain, yoursub.website.comthe first one is better, and not that expensive..
  3. after saying all those 100 sentences to my girlfriend, i'm sure she has fallen asleep haha
  4. I personally think it's a good idea to try this, and it's fun for you to make it work too...and about the houses example: yes, some may just view the houses and never return, but some view them and get interested <especially when it's not very expensive stuff you're slling> and may visit the real store... I like the fact that you are willing to take a risk for this, it's like an experiment: you may have luck, and it may fail, either way it's a fun project to do (else you wouldn't do it would you?)I think if you just use a basic html page (maybe some easy php scripts in it...) and for example the agora shopping cart system or another system like that, it could look professional. one tip:put alot of pictures on it, and an easy way to view them all, when viewing websites, the most fun thing is to view pictures of what they have (computer example) and then consider buying something; in the real shop, or online using paypal or anything. good luck with it ----i agree to StonedMetalJewelry for the attacking thing, it's like no9t9 doesn't want him to start with it. lets just give him some advise and try to help him, let him take the risk, he'll find out if it fails, and if it works: good for him!

    Got Firefox?

cool, hope it works :rolleyes:thanks for sharing this----------------------------and yes it works
  6. php nuke is really hard to manage when you don't know how to, but that was my first opinion on Invision Power Board too, which is now pretty easy for me about all those ads, i'd like to try it, but i have some problems with the services, i don't like the fact that they wanna know everything about me (age, full name, home address etc) and i just don't like giving this information to 'some website', and it's too official for me (they need tax information too....) so i'm still looking for some other service that can just get the money to a paypal account (or somthing like that) instead of a cheque to my home address, i think i stay anonymous this way. any suggestions?
  7. i think he's right, it sucks..... and why use your mobile phone if you have a laptop/desktop ?
  8. A friend of mine just bought a reseller plan somewhere, really reliable, and he offers payed hosting now, pretty cheap. to start with, it's under $100 a year to get a reseller, and you have all options unlimited, set your packages and just do with it whatever you want, when it's getting big (and you made profit) you can go to a dedicated server, but for $100 a year i think you can make big profits, if you include some ads (google ads are pretty good) on the main website and offer reliable hosting.....the bad thing is, that it costs time to do this all hosts like Xisto usually don't last long, they get hacked, can't afford it anymore, or the server is down all the time, last 2 hosts i used went down because of these reasons. i hope Xisto can last longer i'll just give it a try
  9. it gets a bit *hot* after a whole day of activity (playing games, using microsoft office alot, browsing websites, downloading/uploading stuff, opening books for school in adobe reader etc) but it can work between the -50° and +50° C so i'm safe i guess.... this laptop is 3 years old now, and still working fine, i can still play NFSU2 on it

    Website Copier

totally agree, i don't need my hard drive filled anymore with some basic html junk haha it's easy if you're on dial-up but it's easyer to add the page to favourites and read it online (and view source ifyou need anything ofcourse)

    Phpbb

I've used PHPBB, because it's easy to moderate, but nothing better than Invision Power Board, it's great!alot of mods for it, alot of skins for it (not easy to find on the www) and it's just cool when i tried it first, i just closed it and stopped, but tried again and then i noticed how easy it is after you get how it works! just try it, it's great!I used SMF board too, found it on fantastico, but i didn't like it, doesn't look too good, no mods, no skins (yet!) and i just didn't like the administrating/moderating. Right now i'm reading through the 'probb' board mrkill47 suggested, i'm gonna try thatone aswell-edit- waiting for the probb release
  12. i've used mcafee before, but now i'm using Norton Antivirus 2003 (legal version, got the licence) and it works fine, using the auto-update all the time and i think it's safe like this. i make backups of all important stuff located here all the time (burn on a CD) and i do a full scan every 2 weeks, for the rest i have sygate personal firewall running (free version i think) and i just hope it's enough
  13. I would go for laptop, i'm using a laptop all the time (for everything) and it's just cool. it's small, the batterys are pretty good (it can just keep on like 4 to 5 hours a day, using it alot. the screen is better, the keyboard is better. i can't upgrade it, but that doesn't matter, it works like this (pentium 4, 1.8 GHZ, 30 GB hard disc, 15,1" screen, toshiba pro 2100 i think) i can play most games on it, and it's 3 years old now! i can take it anywhere, and at home i use a mouse with a wire on it (USB)and if you look at the pricing, for about $800 to $1,500 you have a good laptop (thisone was more expensive, because of the bigger screen <extra large because i don't have very good eyes>)
  14. i always search for cpanel hosting and use the fantastico system, works great, even for phpnuke or anything (i think it supports IPB, PHPBB, YABSE and another one) works good for me, you have full control over it, you can access the 'real files' if something is wrong you can just change the directory so noone can get in, you can make your own backups, and ofcourse: No ads at all! i tried to install a skin on a IPB forum, but was unable to, because it just didn't work, but going into the directory, i was able to put them in the right folder it's just so much better to host it yourself, and if you odn't have fantastico, you can always use tutorials on how to install it (do a google search and you'll find alot of them )
  15. maybe i've got one, but i have no idea if it supports it, and i don't know what the website of the hosting company is lola friend of mine owns it, but he isn't online right now.....i got a package, so if you could post a simple script here, i can test it for you lolyou can also PM me on here
  16. lol i've never heard of that game!what is it about? what platform? (ps2, x-box, gamecube ..) haven't seen it in stores neither, is it out yet?

    New Ps2

it looks very cool, i've seen it already though, one of my friends bought it a while ago, not sure when or where (maybe he got it from another country, no idea) and that neon is soo cool! but i think it's even smaller than the ' old' standard PS2 isn't it?
  18. is it true that X-Box live costs alot of money to use? and you need some hardware to get started first? just curious. about the modding: some friends put a bigger hard drive in, but i think that's all they did with their X-Box.... too bad these things are pretty expensive, and same for the X-Box itself, i can't afford it right now, pretty sad isn't it need to save up some money lol
  19. sure he has lol ;)that's a cool way to make your room look better, must be expensive though, and alot of work to get it all working another way to spend your time at home, creating funny things by using your imagination

  23. you can also just redirect it to the same page without the pics on it, that's easyer (dunno how good you are at PHP and all that)
  24. they can be dangerous in a very different way too, some nokia cell phones exploded in the face and hands of a women in the netherlands, don't know if you know that....the battery just exploded for some reason, nokia sayd it wasn't an original battery, but that may just be ***
