  1. I had 2 last minute projects that my teachers assigned me, why they even do this I really don't know. One of them was making a video. My group (which had about 6 people) had to make a video in about a week. Yeah that's the last week of school. I really don't know why my teacher gave us such a limited time to do this, and that makes me mad. I also had to finish 2 final exam study guides in 3 days. So, I really hate last minute projects and assignments. Do you have a last minute project? Did you already do one? Do you think you had enough time? Post what you think about last minute things.
  2. Um, halo 2's not an mmorpg. Its a first person shooter that you can play online.
  3. Yes, doing that in javascript would be a lot easier considering you can add javascript above or below your <?php tag. That's the great thing about php. You could also make it print with a button, not just a link.
  4. You might as well turn it off unless you are running programs like logs that check the status of things. Leaving it on longer means more wear and tear, mostly with the harddrive. The longer you leave your computer is on the more likely it is to crash sooner. Think carefully about what you want to do
  5. I really don't see the point of a car being able to go in the water. I don't think it would look good cause there would be propellers stickout out of it. Also, all it would really be good for is fishing, because i doubt it could go very fast in water. And even so, how long could it stay in the water? It's bound to take some sort of damage or rust and sink. I wouldn't pay 900,000 for that, cause I could just buy a car and a boat, overall cheaper.
  6. Yeah it does. But I do plan on maybe eventually getting another one.(gfx card) But suprisingly if I didn't buy it from the website I bought it from, it would have costed me about $30 more somehow. I guess cause there's the dumb middleman thing going on.
  7. First of all make a multi-threaded server. Then for each connecting player throw a new thread. Also you can make the client send "codes" to the server when an action is done. Like if keyboard left is pressed send code 1, then server sends code 1 to all of the clients to update the game. That way the client is doing all the figuring and saves badwidth.
  8. Well its not your browser for sure, in fact, firefox runs this game Better than IE. Usually on your keyboard there will be things in blue under things in white. On my laptop I hold the FN key and press break, but look for blue text or something that says numpad. This game works on my laptop, 233mhz 98mb ram, so I'm pretty sure it will/should work on yours. I am adding a contact page so you can send me bugs, problems, and ask about the game etc. I will also add a bugs page soon.
  9. Well I randomly decided to make an rpg. So far its all in javascript, and that's how I intend to keep it. Eventually you will be able to save with a permanent cookie or by getting an encrypted code. Right now you can only walk around and go to 2 maps. I have used preloading, and the maps load extremely fast. But there is one problem, maybe you guys could help but I mostly just posted to tell you guys something . Well the problem is the character images load extremely slow and i know why but i can't see a way to prevent it. Well, the preloading only affects it each time the page is loaded/reloaded and because each time the character moves its not reloaded, he loads slow when you move. But anyways, you can go and have a laugh at my game or website..hosted on yours truly. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ news is posted daily or as updates are made, website still looks a little funny, enemies are coming next. So I think I might post the source and maybe you guys could learn a thing or two about javascript.
  10. Well I guess I'll just post about how I got my first and second computers, because both are fairly interesting. Well actually the first is kind of dumb. I got an old 400 mhz 32mb ram emachine from my uncle. I'm pretty sure he just built it with spare parts, but I was excited when I first got it. My second computer 40gb hd, 1ghz, 512mb ram, traded it for a dreamcast that I had, and like 5 games. So pretty much I got it for around $30. Thats just funny
  11. Most of the time these "private" servers are really pirate servers. If you ever see a runescape "private" server, it is a pirate server and you should not go there. Also if you somehow decide you want to play on one of these servers, DO NOT put your official runescape password in there as many people are just trying to steal your account. Making a runescape private server is illegal! People who have made these servers have managed to steal or make the runescape server code. I don't know about other games and their private servers but as for runescape its illegal and you should not do it.Post your opinions here about runescape private servers or other private servers and if they're illegal or not.
  12. Well you have many things to look at before deciding to buy or build your own. If you are going to buy one, I would suggest having it custom made. Because if you just buy a dell pc, theres hundreds of thousands of the same exact thing, and it probably isn't very good for gaming. Heres the thing: you can almost NEVER upgrade your processor. To get a better processor you are going to have to buy a motherboard with one on it. Something that is upgradable in all computers is ram. I would suggest getting 2 512mb ram sticks, for a total of 1gb of ram. This can greatly help your computer out. Also, for many games now they require good graphics cards. You need to know what slots your computer has, and what slot the graphics card goes in before you buy it. I would suggest getting a graphics card with at least 64mb. What have we learned about upgrading here:1)Upgrade your ram2)Get a video card that works with your pcNow, the first thing you must decide when building your own pc is budget. You need to know how much you are willing to spend first. Then decide what parts you need to buy. A great thing to get is called a "barebones kit" these kits usually consist of a power supply, a motherboard, and the case(tower) and may or may not have other parts included. The great part with this is that you know the motherboard will fit in the tower.
  13. Well there is much controversy over this topic. The views usually differ if you are kid or if you are the parent. All the kid wants is to run around getting candy all night. A lot of people think the candy is poisoned but that doesn't even happen a lot. Also people dress up like demons etc, so if you are a parent you don't want your kid explosed to that garbage.
  14. I have a great idea for a server supercomputer. You have lets say about 10 racks on your server. Each rack could have 2 xeon processors per motherboard, and 2 gig ram or more per board. And a 120g hd or more per motherboard. And cable internet, and no bandwidth limits (somehow maybe you work for bellsouth or something). This could be done right now, but people are probably just too lazy to make anything like that or they don't have enough money. Got your own idea of the ultimate server? Post it here.
  15. Yes I use Spybot and norton anti-virus. But there is one very important thing you must remember: update your programs very often! Make sure you have the latest versions otherwise new spyware and viruses could be on your computer that your anti virus etc will not see. If you really want to be protected go buy either: A good anti-spyware/virus software from a store or buy a company edition kind. Company edition tools are usually more expensive, but they are usually much better. To prevent a lot of spyware etc from the start, make sure you know what you are downloading before you download it. If it says in the description of a game "Contains some adware". Then *Don't* download it.
  16. I was actually quite old before I got my first computer. I was probably about 12 years old and I remember desperatley wanting one. Mine was an old e-machine 400mhz with 32mb ram, and a 1.5 gig harddrive. My uncle made it for me when I visited his house that christmas. It had windows 2000 installed, but with that amount of ram it was virtually impossible to do anything. The first thing I did was mess around with dos. Yeah..I was bored. And I played good ole' Microsoft pinball and made very strange drawings in paint. Today its upgraded to I think 196mb ram, and it's used as a host for LAN games. But gotta love the good ole' memories
  17. Yes you pretty much have to overcome being shy to get a girlfriend. Main thing is be yourself. You've probably heard that a lot, but it's completely true. Nobody is going to like someone who lies, because eventually your are going to be found out and most likely dumped. Compliment the one you're after, or your girlfriend. Begin to show her you care about her life, listen intently when she talks to you. Make sure you remember her birthday especially. Try to surprise as much as you can. Plan special things together, like a private fishing trip. Get to know her.
  18. Ah yes. I was completely ignorant download files here and there, and without protection. I of course didn't think I could ever get a virus, and it wasn't until later i realized how commonplace they actually are. So I just downloaded this really big file, and it was a game. Only thing was it didn't work. Later I realized that was the biggest slap in the face virus ever. Somehow it managed to email itself about 20 times without my knowing it. It appears to only mess up cd-rom drivers. But, someone complained to my ISP that I had given them a virus. So, the next day my internet was cut off and I was left with an email explaining a complaint. Well then I spent about $200 on norton and a professional firewall. I later scanned my computer for viruses and found about 30 of the juicy suckers. Probably a third of them were trojans. My warning to all of you: don't think you are protected. And scan at a minimum of once a week for viruses and spyware/adware. Best of luck to all of you and be safe!
  19. Well I decided to drive up to michigan from georgia, about a 14 hour drive. I was going to visit my grandmother, who had dimensia, and is quickly getting worse. I did end up having a wonderful time with my grandma and other relatives while there. So I came back about a week later. Well I was about 5 minutes from my house and my transmission went. But earlier my speedometer went out, which is almost worse. So I was stuck in 2nd gear trying to make it up a hill and to my house. I did eventually get there, but my car was worthless. It was a ford. Later I was going up to Michigan again, of course to check on my grandma again. I was also coming back that time when it happend. If i went above 40 miles per hour, the car died. I ended up having to stay in a motel 6, almost the lowest quality hotel on earth, but only for one night. Figured out it was my air filter (feul filter, some filter, whatever) It was also a ford. As you can see, I no longer trust Ford, and probably will never buy another Ford car/whatever in my life. I wouldn't advise any of you to get fords either.
  20. Ok this can be quite a long story. Well first off I have about a 6 year old computer. Poor buddy he's seen good days. Well anyways I recently bought guild wars for it. First off I didn't bother to see if my computer's graphics card was compatible with the game. And you can probably guess what happens...it wasn't!! But that's only the beginning of the problems. Well, I decided it might not be supported, but oh heck i'll try it anyways. So I create an account, and I began to realize it wasn't going to work. First thing I noticed was wrong: the clothes models didn't load on the character. It appeared he had white armor and clothes. Well I thought I could live with seeing people dressed in white walking around everywhere. So I logged on. Well let's just say 1fps. That is not a very good start. So, I turn everything I can down to minimal. Graphics, details, etc. Everything good had to be sacrificed. But it still didn't work. Well I could log in and chat with other players, but if I attempted to move, it would appear I jumped about 20 steps ahead. After walking around a bit the program quit on me. So I decided to get the latest drivers for my video card. That did indeed help, but not by much. I can now successfully log in, but the fps is still very low, but the program no longer quits on me. The models are all still white. Then I tried walking around, I didn't jump ahead as far, but it is still unplayable. So I decided to fork out the cash and get a graphics card. So I went to overstock.com and bought a shiny, brand new Radeon 9200 se. Well, the good thing is overstock has $2.95 shipping always. So it arrived about 3 days later, and I was extremely excited. I opened it up and noticed it had no instruction manual. Turns out the only "instruction manual" was online. But I didn't bother, I opened my computer and was just going to find the slot and plug it on in. But I quickly realized I didn't have the right slot to plug it into. Well that just got really annoying. So I looked up my computer model and tried to find a way for it to work. Turns out my model is virtually unupgradable besides memory, floppy, cd and harddrive. Oh great... So I wasted about $70 total, although I plan to do research before buying next time. I would also advise anyone buying from the internet, or anywhere else, to see what they are buying first and to make sure that is what they want.
  21. Google has recently come up with a great way for web developers to make some extra revenue from their website. This is called google ad-sense. You can choose to put image ads or text ads. Text ads are extremely helpful, especially if you have bandwith limits on your website. This also doesn't take a lot of time to load your webpage. You sign up for an account, but you must be 18 or older. Then you type in your website address. Google does have some strict rules with this. How it works: You copy some code into your website page. Once there, it will display relevent and completely customizable ads to the content of your webpage. When a user clicks on your link you will get some money. One rule is that you may not click on any of the ads. Only other people may click on them. This is a great, easy, and almost pain-free way to generate some quick income! You can check the revenue you have earned at any time by visiting the website also. Because the ads are directed towards the content of your webpage and what the visitors are looking for, they are more likely to click on these ads, generating you more revenue. I hope some of you guys try it sometime
  22. I don't really believe in the whole internet dating thing. In many cases, pictures someone sends you or hosts are often fake and sometimes referred to as "angle shots". These pictures aren't the real person, they're just pictures made to look like they fit together. Also many times relationships over the internet don't end up working out. There are too many problems to be faced. But, consider e-harmony. That site claims that it compares people on 29 different dimensions of compatibility. To me, these are lies. Sure you can enter things about your religion, age, likes, etc. But whose to say that the information someone else posted on that site is true? They could have made that information up. Also, you are much older and she is not yet an adult. Although I hope your relationship grows and lasts, it's not likely. And also don't rush the relationship as many others here have said. Take your time and get to know eachother. Many times people over the internet do not see eachother in real life, so I think this could be a good opportunity for you. Make sure you make a good impression, and always be kind and considerate.
