  1. I am not good with databases and such. I'm learning PHP right now, haven't got to the database aspect of it but I really recommend MySQL.MySQL is an open-source database system that is based on SQL (Server Query Language). Also, a lot of complex applications such as Drupal and Joomla require the MySQL database system.PostgreSQL is also a good alternative to use. I know that some applications are compatible with PostgreSQL but not a lot.Microsoft Access databases are quite confusing and time-consuming to understand and use. I don't recommend them at all.Remember, I know too little about databases to give an informed opinion, these are just my thoughts.
  2. I prefer using Windows Live Messenger to talk to people on Yahoo! Messenger. I have no friends on Google Talk, therefore this would be a waste of disk space and time. :)If you have IM2 or Trillian, it is better than this.
  3. My desktop background is currently the Windows Vista logo with Windows Vista written below it. I usually switch between this and a couple hundred of Firefox wallpapers.I love Firefox! :)You can find plenty on SpreadFirefox.com, as well as Googling some.
  4. If you want to protect the HTML code of the site, I don't think you can do that. In Opera, pressign Ctrl+F3 and Ctrl+U in Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape, etc. can view the source code. However, just disabling the right click menu on the page is just a waste of bandwidth to load the script. The right click menu doesn't really provide any options. I know of a site who disables the right click menu. In Neopets, all the hops have the right click menu disabled. This is because people say that if you right-click the item and hold down enter, you will get a secret item/some other scam. So Neopets disabled it. Um...why should you re-enable JavaScript for surfing other sites? Isn't it kinda useless?
  5. I used to use FireFTP extension on Firefox. Then I migrated to the built in FTP capabilities of Internet Explorer. Stupid thing kept asking for my password even though I entered it a million times. Now I use AceFTP Freeware. It goes perfectly with AceHTML, however I don't use AceHTML Freeware 9 that much. Take a look, the website is: Visicom Media's Freeware Products I am considering trying FileZilla and also SmartFTP worked for me, can't remember why I abandoned SmartFTP.
  6. This is absolutely useless, as others pointed out.Windows will not allow you to delete the Windows folder once booted up and even changing the drive letter of a compressed FAT drive will nto work if Windows is installed on it.Unless you can execute this script without user confirmation (using the /q switch), I think that this is useless. Who would press "Y" on this command? If you do use quiet mode, it still requires pure DOS mode. That means no Windows has to be loaded. As far as I know, only Windows 95 supports this. I think Windows 98 can, but you need a startup disk in order for that to work.
  7. I have just downloaded Microsoft Visual Basic Express 2005 and I need a tutorial to help me learn how to create simple programs.I have already watched the 16 hour RSS Reader series from Microsoft and I'm currently working on that. I also have developed a Web Browser and a weather tracker system, from the help of Microsoft E-Books and other Microsoft resources. If you could find any non-Microsoft resource on Visual Basic Express, that would be greatly appreciated.
  8. I pronounce it as "charr". If you have Opera, select the word and press "V". Opera says "charr". My first thought was "charr" also. But it does come from the word character, which the sound is "care". I'm not that sure now. :?
  9. Please verify: 1. Do you have the correct time zone? 2. Correct date on calendar? 3. If on Windows XP, synchronization with Internet Time Server "time-a.nist.gov"? 4. All security patches and updates applied? You can get Windows updates at http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx It would help to check those and also tell us the version of Windows you are using.
  10. My question is: If I am applying administrative settings on MY account (as an administrative user), it works for all user accounts. His account is a LIMITED user account. From where do you get that his account is an administrator? By the way, I think Policy Editor only works on Windows XP Professional Edition.
  11. First of all, you should teach HTML, you should teach XHTML.Second of all, y did you put yoru tutorial in quotes?
  12. This is a free lesson of XHTML provided by FirefoxRocks. After successfully completing your course of XHTML, you will be able to: Create a simple website Have valid XHTML to clean up the web Apply tags properly to minimize work What is HTML? HTML is a language that is read by Internet browsers. It tells how browsers display the webpage. HTML files must have the .html extension, although very old pages do use the .htm extension. HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language. You are probably using Internet Explorer right now. To view the HTML for this page that you are reading, follow these steps: In Mozilla / Firefox / SeaMonkey / Netscape: Press CTRL + U. In Opera: Press CTRL + F3 In Internet Explorer/Avant Browser/Maxthon: Click View. Click Source. What is XHTML? XHTML is a more stricter and cleaner version of HTML. In the future, XHTML will replace HTML. XHTML stands for eXtensible HyperText Markup Language. IF you learnt HTML before, converting to XHTML might be a tad difficult but shouldn't be too hard. Remember to read carefully on the lessons and to do each step and apply your skills. Practise makes perfect! Next section coming up soon!
  13. Okay, I cannot implement those. The user has searched all of the Firefox options panel and if I put in that proxy thing he will definately notice it being suspicious and click Direct Connection to Internet. Also, disabling IE is NOT an option. That applies to all users, not the current user. Modifying the Windows HOSTS File is also all users, so that can't be done. Unless you can tell me how to make a proxy to block sites, I need additional help.
  14. Set Program Access and Defaults didn't help. The icons were still on the desktop and I don't want to move them from C:\Documents and Settings\All Users to the individual profiles (there are too many).Isn't port 80 purpose is to run a web server? I thought that was disabled by default.I can't uninstall programs on a specific user account. Programs go into the C:\Program Files directory and it is for all users. The start menu shortcuts are also in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users. The user account is already limited (can't install programs).By the way, I'm running Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2.
  15. MSN Search is now powered by Windows Live Search!See, I told you it would replace it. :)Anyways, for images, I prefer to use both Google and Windows Live Search. For the web, I'd use Google Search. For everything else, Yahoo! Search, Google Search and Windows live Search.
  16. I need help on how to literally disconnect Firefox from the Internet.I know I can use Shaw Secure (firewall) to block it but if I do this, all user profiles will have Firefox blocked from the Internet.I need to block Firefox from the internet in only 1 user account. Therefore I must change something in the Documents and Settings folder for Firefox. Is there something in user.js file that I need to alter? Is it available through about:config? The "network.http..." settings didn't work properly when I set all of them to 0 max connections and disabled keep-alive. I am on broadband right now. Also, if you could tell me how to for Firefox, it will probably work for Mozilla, SeaMonkey and Netscape also. Please also find a way to do this to Opera. I need all the browsers on the computer disabled from Internet except Internet Explorer and Avant Browser.Currently I am using a fake error page created from "chrome://user/defaultstyle.css" but the user has already figured out how to access his Yahoo! and Google home from the address bar history. I cleared the browsing history, saved form information, cookies (except Yahoo! and Google and a few others), cache, authenticated sessions and any thing else through a program called CCleaner. It won't be long until he finds another way to access the Internet from Firefox.I blocked Avant Browser by using a fake error page which seems to work, he is using Internet Explorer right now (that is until he found the address bar history in Firefox).Opera, Netscape and SeaMonkey are still useable. I need to disable them as well. I don't want a fake error page for all the browsers. Opera is particularly tricky to make this happen.Remember: 1 user account only!Could someone please help me?
  17. I sometimes use MS-DOS, although I use it less now because it is less compatible with disk compression on FAT partitions.I use it sometimes to play games, not much really. :|
  18. As you know, if you use the XML encoding tag, XHTML Doctype and the XML Namespace attribute in the html tag on a .php document, it won't render properly and will infact display errors. A solution to this problem is to use the require function of the PHP system. (I'm new at PHP, just learnt it yesterday, please feel free to correct anything ) Here are some examples of pre-body text: Normal XHTML document pre-body information: [b]<?xml version='1.0' encoding='iso-8859-1'?><!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC '-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN' 'http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ xmlns='http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ XHTML Site</title><link rel="stylesheet" href="allpages.css" type="text/css" /><style type="text/css">...style information here...</style></head> Normal HTML 4.01 document pre-body information: [b]<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ HTML Site</title><link rel="stylesheet" href="allpages.css" type="text/css" /><style type="text/css">...style information here...</style></head> Note: there are also many doctypes for HTML and XHTML, these are just some examples. There is also HTML 3.2 and 2.0 instead of 4.01. PHP document: <html><head><title>My PHP Site</title></head> Here is the one you should be using for PHP/XHTML pages: <?php require("doctype.php"); ?><head><title>Achoo!</title><link rel="stylesheet" href="allpages.css" type="text/css" /><style type="text/css">...style information here...</style></head> The doctype.php file: <?php$xml="<?xml version='1.0' encoding='iso-8859-1'?>";$doctype="<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC '-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN' 'http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ xmlns='http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ $xml . " " . $doctype . " " . $html;?> In this case, the browser still outputs the XML encoding, the DOCTYPE declaration and the HTML document declaration. If you view the source of the page, you can't tell that it used the PHP (remember, PHP is server-side). I hope this has helped you create more valid pages for your website. Please remember, we are cleaning up the web here, so make sure your documents have valid XHTML/CSS and no broken links.
  19. The link to FLING IE is broken. I prefer Firefox 2 to Internet Explorer 7. This is because of the improved tabbed browsing and spell checking. Also, Internet Explorer 7 crashes on me sometimes when I have Windows Live Messenger (strange) open. Anyways, Firefox 2 is definately better. There is a comparison competition on CNET Download.com somewhere. Firefox 2 to Internet Explorer 7 was 5:0. Firefox won all 5 competitions! By the way, if you want to spread Firefox or Opera, check out SpreadFirefox or Opera Community. Both are very similar and they are awesome!!
  20. Okay, I have found a site called curvyCorners on the site (I think). Anyways, problem solved. Using JavaScript and CSS (with the GPL license), I have found a way to make rounded <div> boxes. Thanks for the help guys! Topic can be now locked.
  21. This is my second help post in this Java/JavaScript section. Can someone write/find me a piece of code that will create rounded <div> boxes? Preferred stuff: Box MUST be customizable using CSS internal/external stylesheets. The box must be in a shape of a rounded rectangle (make one in Microsoft Paint if you don't know what that is). A title bar is preferred (rounded or not) but isn't madatory. Remember: Any help would be appreciated. All codes will be tested and best code be selected.
  22. First of all, download IE7. Go to the Internet Options and the last tab (Advanced) I think. Click on "Reset all settings". Restart your computer. Configure your settings for JavaScript, etc. Try this and see if it works. Also, please remember to use an alternative browser such as Firefox for normal everyday browsing!

  24. I have Firefox 2 and I'm proud of it! Although Firefox has crashed on me one time, it is very good. In fact, I'm doing my school speech assignment on Firefox. Since almost no one in my town uses Firefox, I'll bet this will get some news out. I'm going to be speaking about Firefox (for 3-4 minutes). There is too much to talk about. LOL Anyways, Opera 9 is good, but Firefox 2 is also extremely well built. Choose both if you want, that is what I have. Something like 8 browsers. Go to https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/ and check out Firefox2's features!
  25. My opinion is that there is another universe. At the beginning of the school year, my history teacher has briefly explained the universe story. The universe was created in a fraction of a second with the Big Bang theory. Galaxies were seeded soon and as the Milky Way galaxy develops etc, etc. We haven't explored enough to find out possibilities. I think that all we have explored are around the Milky Way galaxy (by bots).Maybe we will discover this in another 3 million years. LOL Our universe is approximately 15 bya (billion years old).
