  1. I haven't really investigated these languages either. I am learning PHP currently out of the W3Schools websites and tutorials off of the Xisto and Xisto forums and it seems to be better than PHP. ASP is a Microsoft technology (Active Server Pages). PHP is a free, open-source (I think) technology. (Hypertext Preprocessor). Personally, I prefer PHP over ASP because of its widespread support. I also like the "include" function of PHP, it saves A LOT OF time. Now I know how the professional web pages do it. I don't think there is a way to include ASP into PHP because PHP is <?php ?> and ASP is <% %>. If the file has the .php or .php3 extension, it will render that code as either HTML, PHP or something else and generate an error. If anyone would like to give me some help on PHP, please feel free to give me links to websites. By the way, XML + PHP has a short tutorial here: Expat XML Parser in the PHP core SimpleXML in PHP 5 Reference to SimpleXML These are from the W3Schools. I hope these have helped. Perhaps a more experienced person can help you better.
  2. Didn't you read the FAQ?Yes, if I could, I would only download OpenOffice.org Writer. I don't need the other programs, maybe Calc, but that's about it.Downloading only 1 program costs about 60-70MB, why not download the whole thing? That is what was said in the FAQ.Anyways, StarOffice is commercial while OpenOffice.org is free and open-source.
  3. tehGoogle worked on me.It is an attempt to drive traffic to the new button (ACM). Actually the site doesn't load properly in Opera for me.Anyways, Google won't sue them because they are not advertising and that they are actually helping Google get more and more of the web population to use the search engine (like Google already has tons of).Google has tons of parodies, and they all help Google.
  4. Could someone explain what re-imaging a laptop is? I think I have heard of the term before, but I have no clue what it is.Is it similar to reformatting or reinstalling the operating system?
  5. This looks kind of interesting, but I am not into game creation. I do enjoy playing Travian and X-Kings, I did play Runescape for a few eeks, but I am not really into that. Neopets is fine for me, although it is targeted towards little kids. It also has an option for Teens and Adults. I just enjoy doing web development more than I enjoy playing games. Nothing wrong with that.
  6. You can distribute your music on P2P networks, for free of course! :PYou will not get into any legal trouble for UPLOADING your music on P2P networks because it is encouraged on the Gnutella systems.Just make sure if you have any music on your computer, you still have the original CD. :PIf you want, you could put music on your web site if your hosting organization/company permits it. Usually they don't allow copyrighted music that you don't have permission to post. But your own content should be okay, just ask first in case.
  7. Isn't StarOffice and OpenOffice from the same company? They both support each other's file formats and both use Java.StarOffice is also featured on the OpenOffice.org website.
  8. That article is completely out of NPOV (neutral point of view).First of all, the kid was practically restricted from the Internet. With the parental controls, he told the kid NOT to go to specific sites. As a result, the kid couldn't download anything harmful for the computer.Secondly, will EVERYONE enable Parental Controls? Probably not. Only parents will enable it on the kids user accounts. So without the security of the parental controls described in the articles, you don't have that download virus blocker security.
  9. HTTP 1.1 Pipelining errors, are they the same as this?Pipelining is something that keeps sending a packet through the HTTP connections to keep-alive the connection. It is not fully supported by Internet Explorer, but fully supported by almost all of the Gecko browsers and other alternatives.Do you use HTTP Pipelining? Do you think it is useful?
  10. I have never thought about this before.I have noticed that link that says Help us improve our results!, but have never clicked on it and don't know what it does.I believe that Neural Networks is a good system for a search engine. This is because the contents can be improved faster. With this fact, I will use Windows Live Search more.
  11. Internet Explorer is such a weird browser. Firefox and Opera seem to display it properly. And yes, your problem is solved with a z-index with positioning. You can learn more about CSS at the W3Schools website. I don't think that it is a huge issue because the grades are small but if you want to fix that, I'd recommend a little more than CSS.
  12. Yes, the RSoD will scare the crap out of new computer users. Red generally means strong negative. In computers, it could mean virus, fatal error, unrecoverable error or who knows? It seems to be true that there is going to be a RSoD for Windows Vista. See Wikipedia Entry. If you enjoy the Screens of Death, there is also the BSoD (common), RSoD (new), GSoD (for TiVo and XBox 360) and YSoD (XML parsing errors in Mozilla programs). Another one for Mac is the Sad Mac and Sad iPod icons. Well, I prefer the RSoD better than the BSoD on Windows. It is more exciting and prompts you to phone for technical support (which I enjoy). What do you think?
  13. I've also heard of HTTP redirects which the W3C recommends. It doesn't use META tags and JavaScript. How does that work? Can someone show me an example?
  14. I did restart the system. My user account is back to my name now, but the privilege has not returned to normal. Also, the frequently used programs on the Start Menu is cleared and doesn't work anymore, no programs appear there now except my Internet Browser and Email Client.Any tips on how to fix this?
  15. This is a security threat. It should be reported. However, I cannot get my user account back to normal Administrator status now. HELP!!!Do not try this unless you want to be stuck in a weird user account. I am now stuck and might have to create a new user! You should have warned people first.
  16. Yes, it is possible to take down the Internet. I don't think it will be permanently, and even if it was possible, I think it would only be the HTTP protocol being taken down, unless there is sufficient bandwidth, etc.First of all, there would only be 1 server on the Internet. All of the routers will point to this server, and this server will contain all the HTTP protocol data on it.Once all of the servers are removed from the Internet, everyone will try to connect to this 1 server. Most likely and almost frequently, it will result in a system crash because of over bandwidth. In the system crash, disconnect power to this server and smash it to bits. Therefore, the only remaining Internet would be SMTP (email), Telnet, Gopher and the, obviously, Filesystem protocols. It is just a theory, and it is realistic. Good luck on destroying the Internet, you'll need it.
  17. If you would like to create a search section/site search area for your site, there are 3 methods: 1. Use free, easy to use, PHP scripts. You can find plenty here. Just find the free ones underneath the commercial ones and choose the one that is most suitable. 2. Use Google SiteSearch. 3. Investigate and research how to build your own PHP/ASP files to create your own search engine to index your site. You may also want a script for a sitemap. The first two options are easiest. Good luck!
  18. I have known about this for about 7 years. I discovered it when I was in grade 1 and now I am in Grade 8.I visit the W3Schools site regularly to study my XML and similar skills. I have saw that thing many times this year.Anyways, Google does not download the Internet. It indexes it.Downloading means to transfer information from cyberspace to your computer. Google isn't downloading then.
  19. In my opinion, I love iTunes. It is not because my family has an iPod, I've had iTunes for quite a while before my mom got the iPod. Also, I am used to using Windows Media Player, both version 9 and 11. WMP 9 is for my Windows 98 machine, while 11 is fro this Windows XP Home Edition computer. I don't have Windows XP Media Center Edition, although I hope that I will get Windows Vista Home Premium sometime in the next 2 or 3 years. I sometimes (occasionally) have Winamp installed, however I find the interface un-user-friendly and would rather use iTunes. I'm not saying that Winamp is a bad media player, it just isn't good for me. Anyways, I prefer listening to the local radio stations any day over using my downloaded music files. It is way more better (somehow). Mostly everyone that has an iPod prefer iTunes. Otherwise Winamp and other, erm, less popular ones seem to have the majority. One other thing: RealPlayer SUCKS!!!

I have found a completely free visual CSS Editor!! System Requirements: Windows 95+ Opera 9 Yes, it is an Opera Widget. The link can be found here: True HTML Editor Widget It has a partially visual CSS Editor section. Try it and post your comments!
  21. I use Firefox and Opera the same amount. Internet Explorer is just for using "Windows Live" stuff, although that is more supportive towards Firefox.Opera is an excellent browser that is similar to the Mozilla/SeaMonkey suite of applications, only with more improved features. I like using Opera for IRC chat and everything else. The only thing that ticks me off abotu Opera is the weird caching and its inability to send NeoMails.I also use Avant Browser, Maxthon, Netscape, SeaMonkey and sometimes Internet Explorer in addition to Firefox and Opera. I have a lot of browsers installed on my PC. You should try all of them.
  22. Yes, Yahoo! Messenger has many features integrated with it, such as the new plug-ins feature. Also, Yahoo! Messenger can now communicate with people on Windows Live Messenger! Hooray for a step towards merging! It was also improved contact calling.Yahoo! is constantly in development. Yahoo! BETA. Its new features are meant to be deployed to the widest range of users and to provide more functionality to its huge Internet portal.
  23. I love Windows Live Messenger! It is much better than MSN Messenger 7.5 and it includes free calling to contacts (much like Yahoo!). Also, the interface is more user-friendly than the MSN Messenger interface. It makes you seem more lively and energetic. Download Windows Live Messenger today!
  24. Why would you attempt something like this? There are other ways to make yourself stronger, you know?Guess you know that now. :DAnyways, I would recommend seeing a doctor/dentist and seeing if you have dislocated it or fractured it. You will probably have to have it bite onto something and move it around lots.Good luck!
  25. You may want to upgrade to iTunes 7.0.2. This version is the version with the fixed bugs.Upgrade the iPod software to the latest version (1.3 for mine). Try using a Mac to access the iPod.Anyways, it is probably more than 4 years old for your iPod, time to replace it.
