AIM PhoneLine gives you a number for free and more countries eligible for unlimited calling: Canada United States Hong Kong Singapore But read carefully, and you will notice that it is $14.95 USD/MONTH. Skype, on the other hand, is $14.95 USD/year. So one is 12x cheaper, but if you call to Hong Kong and Singapore quite a bit too then I would recommend AIM PhoneLine.

Under-Clocking the Processor Just a Question
FirefoxRocks replied to OpaQue's topic in Hardware Workshop
Yes, underclocking a CPU is possible. Please read the Wikipedia article on Underclocking. There are no really negative disadvantages to underclocking a CPU.There are a lot of advantages, however, some newer CPUs underclock themselves automatically.SpeedStep and Cool'n'Quiet are example of CPU controlling software by Intel and AMD. -
This site looks quite professional and it seems more trustworthy than other sites. However, I find banner exchanges not to be really effective any longer because most of us using Firefox has AdBlock extension. Therefore the ads don't even come through, and more spyware blaster programs use the traditional HOSTS file blocking, so that would blank out the ad too.I find that the use of 88x31 non-animated GIF buttons on a side bar or on a footer to be more effective, especially if you have them lined up in a cool way or something.I will check out this site but I don't think I will put any banners on my site.

Windows XP Exploit - Please Help.
FirefoxRocks replied to uapconsole's topic in Security issues & Exploits
The lights on my cable modem blinks even when my computers are off.It is just an occasional message that your ISP sends you in order to test your connection and stuff like that. It isn't a harmful data packet that is going through (I hope).Anyways, I wish you best of luck to figure out what it is. And hopefully it isn't something malicious attempting to connect. :| -
I think this is pretty easy to handle:1. Don't use crossed Ethernet cables. They are very hard to set up and doesn't detect the connection in Windows XP easily (at least not within my experience).2. Plug both computers using 100BaseT Ethernet cables into the router.3. Disable any wireless network that is existing right now. It might interfere (as you said above).4. Make sure that you have a wired (it's not called wireline LOL) network setup. Go to Network Connections and Create a home/small office network.5. Follow the wizard.6. Everything should be fine.Once you have that setup, disable it when necessary and leave Windows Firewall in the correct setting (on/off depending if you have another Firewall). You can reconnect your wireless network when necessary. From what you have said, it looks like that disabling the wireless network isn't helpful so completely delete it when you are doing this. The wired network connection should be disabled and it should work fine.

Winzip 10 Vunerability/update To Winzip 11
FirefoxRocks replied to Saint_Michael's topic in Security issues & Exploits
Everyone, there is a free archiving/decompression program that is called ZipGenius. I am NOT vulnerable to any known security threats with ZipGenius because there aren't any yet.It is a bit over 5 MB and has a very easy-to-use and powerful user interface. Also, it acts like WinZip and WinRAR combined. It has many features (at least good enough for my needs). Try it today! -
Problems Aligning <div> Box And Other Properties CSS help
FirefoxRocks replied to FirefoxRocks's topic in Programming
Somehow I fiddled around with CSS and my PHP files so I got the page displaying correctly in:Opera, Firefox, SeaMonkey, Netscape - IE, Avant, Maxthon displays it okay but is different (extends white part)Problem solved - topic should now be LOCKED. -
Have you heard? For existing Skype members, you probably received a newsletter about this: And yes, this is a one-time price for an entire year!! I think this is an excellent deal for EVERYONE who calls long-distance to the Canada and US a lot. You can cancel your long-distance phone line (keep local telephone for local calls and emergency dialing). International calls for the popular countries for $0.021 USD/minute. That is an awesome deal! You also get 1 hour of free international calling for those countries!

You're 5 years older than me, and you have quite a good programming history there.I don't think I will be much of a help to you, sorry.By the way, your site is rated dangerous on McAfee SiteAdvisor. Might want to have a look at that.ipdz.comRed Verdict ImageOur analysis indicates that this site may be designed to trick you into submitting your personal or financial information to online scammers.

I need help with my .htaccess file to redirect http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ to http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. Should I use a 301 redirect or what? I don't even know HOW to use those. Also, I think I will go with Level B of the no-http://www.w3.org/ standards. That is the preferred level. Level C, I don't risk losing TOO many visitors, because my site isn't setup that good yet.

Wikipedia Founder In Google Challenge
FirefoxRocks replied to turbopowerdmaxsteel's topic in Search Engines
I do edit Wikipedia! My account at Wikipedia is FirefoxRocks. :) I usually work on WikiProjects such as redirection relinks and stuff like that. For searching for information on a specific topic, I usually use Wikipedia. For searching in general, I use Google or Windows Live Search. About 2 years ago, I thought that Google and Wikipedia collaborated on searching and that some Wikipedia content was listed on the first page of Google searches of keywords. Has this been terminated or what? -
Do you use the secure login screen or the Welcome screen? The secure login screen's wallpaper can be changed. You just edit a registry setting or use TweakXP.If you use the Welcome screen, unless you have Vista, options are pretty limited.

Actually, the <object...> element only works in Firefox/Mozilla/Netscape/SeaMonkey (you get the idea) I think. I don't think it works in Internet Explorer.<embed...> wasn't a HTML tag at all. I think Microsoft invented it to popularize Flash and Internet Explorer.I don't know how to get it to work in both sets of browsers. I know that it is possible, someone from SpreadFirefox has shown me this before. It involves a comment tag that is something LIKE this:<!--if [iEI don't know if it is that for sure but it was something similar. That way it was still valid XHTML strict.Hope you figure it out soon.

For file compression, I use ZipGenius and usually zip files into .zip or .exe. I don't usually compress files (although I remember I used to love compressing every file and FAT partition when I was like 9 or 10 years old ) so I am not too good in this area.A file format for Mac only is quite useless, unless it is for storing sensitive private Mac only information.

I already knew most of these tips. Also, Windows Live Messenger is much better than Windows Messenger, but Windows Messenger might be useful to sign onto 2 different MSN accounts at once.File extensions can be changed in the Command Prompt, you don't need trick number 3.

50 MB pictures isn't that much. If a friend lives close, how about using a USB flash drive? If not, there are several options:1. Use Xisto. Transfer files using FTP to your Xisto server and then your friend can download them from the public_html folder.2. A lot of sites allow transfers of up to 250 or 500 MB. Are you sure you haven't missed the best ones?3. Transfer using IM. You can use AIM, Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live Messenger or GTalk. I have never tried 50 MB before, but it worked for 26-27MB.Those are plenty of options. Just use the best one.

The Ultimate Website Builder
FirefoxRocks replied to flashdiamond's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Actually, you shouldn't create entire Flash websites without a separate HTML version (that would be pretty useless, why not just only HTML?). Flash sites aren't easily indexed by search engines so your site would get less visitors. Also, some people have Flash not installed or disabled (like Avant Browser can). You can use Flash for elements such as menus and stuff, but try avoiding it. Search Download.com for a list of free site builders and other helpful tools. -
Global warming is a major issue right now for mostly everyone who lives on the planet. With the temperature rising about 1F every year, glaciers are melting and ocean levels will rise. Coastal cities in provinces and states will be underwater in the next maybe 30-50 years? We really need to think about our energy consumption and vehicle usage. Also, we should practice other things that help the environment, such as not littering, saving water and recycling more.

Windows Time Problem!
FirefoxRocks replied to nightfox1405241487's topic in Websites and Web Designing
UTC = Universal Time CoordinatesGMT = Greenwich Mean TimeThat is the basic time zone located in England which is used to determine the time in each time zone region throughout the world. Is the problem fixed yet? -
I don't like Visual Web Developer at all! I mean seriously, a lot of web development can be accomplished at the W3Schools website, including ASP. I, however, took a look at the Microsoft Connect section and found a very useful tool that is extremely powerful and helpful in web development. Microsoft Expression (in all editions) is very helpful for creating valid pages visually. It follows the XHTML standard unlike the other tools FrontPage 2003 and Microsoft FrontPage Express. Also, I think that PHP is more superior than ASP because the language has more functions and that ASP is a tad confusing when you begin learning it. I prefer PHP also because that I am used to it, and learning ASP seems to be, um, weird and strange because it is a Microsoft technology and that it is less popular and less compatible with most of the popular web hosts (including Xisto and Xisto). P.S. Visual Web Developer express might not be that good, but Microsoft Visual Basic express is quite awesome once you get to read the tutorial and sample projects.

Best Messenger what is the best im messanger in your idea ?
FirefoxRocks replied to m107's topic in Software
I started using an instant messaging service a few years ago, MSN Messenger 5. I still use Windows Live Messenger 8 today as my primary instant messaging service.I do use Yahoo! Messenger 8.1 but I have only 3 people to talk to on Yahoo! Messenger. Although Yahoo! and Windows Live services are coming together, I don't want everyone knowing my Yahoo! ID.I have tried IM2 and Trillian but I discovered I didn't need them because I liked using the original program as well as the features within the original programs. For voice chats and phone calls, I use Skype as much as possible.Google Talk is pretty useless to me, no one has it within my peers. -
Some Cute Banners Astahost Rocks
FirefoxRocks replied to speedy's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
I like the 3rd one the best. I however think that the banners are too big to put on my website. Maybe an 88 X 31 pixel button would be more appropriate for me.I will try to help promote Xisto as much as possible.
